Kate Hudson would have dated Jimmy Fallon in 2000 but he never made a move

Kate Hudson was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where they reminisced about working together on Almost Famous 20 years ago. I can’t believe that movie came out 20 years ago! I also didn’t realize Jimmy Fallon was in that, he was a manager type and you can see his scene here.

Jimmy was playing a drinking game with Margot Robbie on his show in December, 2018 when he admitted that Kate Hudson was the “costar you thought you could have dated but didn’t.” That’s at 6 minutes into this video. He said “We were hanging out, we were friends, I thought there could be something. We never did anything.” He then went to describe a night when they were at a comedy show together and ran into Chris Robinson, Kate’s future husband. They went ice skating the next day and Kate asked him to bring his Black Crowes CDs to borrow. While they were ice skating Kate admitted to Jimmy she had a date with Chris that night! That’s hilarious, and I don’t know how I missed that story when it came out. (E! reports that Kate met Chris at a party in May, 2000 but it must have been earlier if it was cold enough to skate.)

Kate of course had seen the clip of Jimmy admitting he liked her back in the day. On his show she told him that she would have dated him but assumed he didn’t like her in that way since he never made a move. They were both adorable and Jimmy looked so embarrassed.

Do you remember how much fun we all had [making Almost Famous]?
Some of the best laughs I ever had in my entire life were from that movie.

And then you and I ended up hanging out all the time. A hundred people [sent] me that clip from your show.
I had no idea [you liked me]. You gave me no indication.

I felt like we were good together. We good buddies. We hung out all the time.
If you would have actually made a move I would have totally gone there. I remember thinking to myself ‘why has Jimmy never made a move? Oh he’s not into me like that.’ And so then I met Chris.

That’s not the story at all!
I was a single girl, I was in New York. Our whole life trajectory could have been different.

Everything turned out perfect
Exactly the way it was supposed to.

[From The Tonight Show on YouTube]

I had a friend from work like this! He ended up getting married and he invited me to the wedding. Now that I think about it he must have liked me, but I have the same story, he never made a move. He would come over to my house and hang out too. That’s what happens. I’ve always been afraid to make the first move because I think that’s the guy’s job and I might get rejected or that he might sleep with me and not want anything more than that. I have to change my expectations around dating.

Almost Famous was 20 years ago? Og my now I feel old.

20 years ago I had natural blonde down to my waist, cute bangs, b00bs that were perky AF and a flat stomach.

How did we all get so old? 😂

    Dude, nice pit stains.

In the clip with Margot Robbie, I feel like Jummy answered truthfully while she did not! So awkward.

I love Almost Famous and that is probably Kate’s greatest role to date.

Sarah Polley was cast as Penny Lane and then backed out. Lucky for Kate Hudson as she was amazing.

Still hurts to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman pucs. What an actor. Such a loss.

” I’ve always been afraid to make the first move because I think that’s the guy’s job and I might get rejected or that he might sleep with me and not want anything more than that. I have to change my expectations around dating.” yes you do! Guys are more willing to hear no and have no qualms about it. This is a value that I tried to pass on to my daughter.

I disagree, I was the one who asked my last boyfriend out. I adore him, but I think if a man is too afraid to ask you out, it says a lot about his character; to me it means they don’t think they’re worthy of you and that will show itself later in the relationship. That and other things…

I love Jimmy Fallon…he’s my favorite and during quarantine I watch him every night with my 16 year old son and it cheers us up so much…but I really get the impression that he has never been into a “girl friend” type of relationship. I think he’s more looking for relational roles where he is being “mothered” by his partner. I do genuinely think he is a good natured person, but probably requires a lot of “nurturing”.

I loved that Tonight Show interview where Nicole Kidman and Jimmy Fallon both share their version of the first time they met. Brie cheese, corn chips and old Chinese food!!! And the follow up missed opportunity at the David Fincher buffet. Just really illustrates how men and women communicate differently. Some men really miss subtle cues.

  9. Allz says:

I find it forced that this happened with Nicole Kidman, got great feedback. Now he’s doing it with Kate Hudson. Who’s next?! Drew Barrymore?

May be a little cynical here but this story is so eye rolly.

I am loving Jimmy’s at home shows.

He was never my favourite but he is right now. I like how he asks his guests to support a different charity every night.

    • sa says:

Kimmel is also having guests choose an organization to support each night that Kimmel will donate to.

I don’t know, I kind of call BS on this. I remember reading how Kate moved right in Chris Robinson shortly after they met, she’s always struck me as pretty fearless on her love life. To me, she’s always seemwd assertive enough, I don’t think she’s the type to wait for a guy to show her signs. I think she would have made a pass or obvious she liked him back. That’s my read of her.

But who knows what trips women up I following their hearts? I think, here, it was that our guy Jimmy wasn’t rockstar enough for her at the time. Sorry to be the grey cloud!

As i age i look back and realize oh that guy might have been interested but at the time i thought they were just making small talk because i was there but the male friends ive made in adulthood make it seem like even small gestures from most guys many times mean romantic interest
