Jennifer Garner explains how they ended up getting a stroller for their cat

Jennifer Garner goes for a walk with her kids and the family pets
Jennifer Garner did an interview with Ellen and while it wasn’t clear what she was promoting, she did help raise money for Save the Children. I came away from it liking her more. She can be performative when she’s live on traditional talk shows, which is completely understandable, celebrities need to be “on,” but she was natural and funny in this interview. She explained that she’s having her kids clean their house every Sunday, and she also told the story of how they ended up ordering a stroller for their cat. So many of you have noticed and mentioned that! Ellen and Jennifer played a scavenger hunt game where she had to find items around her house, and that was fun too.

On how she’s doing in lockdown
It’s been great, we’ve had our moments of course, but I think they really get the call to action of staying put and working hard to keep your chins up. They’re cleaning the house and helping out. Every Sunday we [clean] the whole house. I finally let my son clean his own bathroom, he’s 8. I walked in after and the whole bathtub was gray. He had put so much cleaner in it and then just filled it with water and emptied the water out. It took me 20 minutes of scrubbing.

On stroller cat
One of my kids was not into going for walks and we just had to get out of the house. I said ‘what can we do, we have to just commit to going to walks.’ She said ‘I want to take the cat.’ So we ordered a cat stroller. I blame Jessica Seinfeld because she’s a cat lady and all of a sudden I have a cat stroller and I have a cat and I take it for walks. It has a leash.

“Does you cat enjoy the stroller? It looks [confused]”
I think it’s happy to go out and about. It’s very titillated by the whole adventure. It’s into it.

In the Gossip with Celebitchy podcast #53 we talk about stroller cat! (That’s at minute 34, here’s a link right to that section.) I picked a comment about stroller cat as one of our comments of the week. Chandra/Kaiser said that it was thirsty of Jen to take the cat out in a stroller, and she’s definitely thirsty (I said it’s a mom thirst for Tang or Capri Sun), but as a solution to getting her kid to go out with her it’s not as bad. Notice how Jen never says the name of any of her kids or even of her cat in this interview. She knows what she’s doing. She also killed two birds by buying a stroller for their cat because it makes for cute photo ops and interview stories.

My mom’s friend has an adorably sleek male cat which she brings with her traveling. I’d never seen a cat on a leash before that and was kind of fascinated by it. He was very much cat-like in that you couldn’t predict where he would go, but he also seemed ok with being on the leash. It was more a tolerance of it than an enthusiasm.

Also, Garner has been a good ally. Check her Instagram. She’s not like Kristen Bell talking out of both sides of her mouth, although that bar is so low. As a sidenote she really should put that cat on her Instagram.

Here’s that interview and the other part is here.

I just got one those backpack carriers for Finn that have the little bubble window for them to look out of of. It also has a grate attachment so that you can swap out the bubble window if your cat isnt into it. Which I used instead of the bubble. My cat HATES going outside. He is an indoor baby through and through. When I took him to the vet this weekend we got a lot of compliments on his little backpack lol. I wish I could tale my cat on stroller strolls lol.

I want to buy one of those too. But I am not sure Her Majesty will agree. Once I tried to put her on a leash and she hated it. She ended up on the floor like a corpse.
I am jealous of those who manage to put their cats on a leash.

I have one of those backpack carriers, but I had to stop using it because not being able to see where she was going freaked out my cat, and carrying it so it faced forward was very awkward. I’m so impressed with cats that stay calm while facing backwards.

We bought one of those for Our Devon Rex kitty. She’s very sociable and loves it…after she figured out it wasn’t for trips to the vet or groomers.

Referring to the cat as “it” rather than he or she, Is she protecting the cat’s privacy? Or is it the kids’ cat and she’s not really a cat person? That confuses me a bit, because most people won’t refer to their own pet as an “it.”

Anyway, I think it’s cute that they take the whole family, including the cat, on their walks.

I am here for Stroller cat. I like cats. I like strollers. However, I am not sure how much fun a cat has in a stroller — should be fine as long as cat doesn’t get stressed out, like cat being in a car. And that cat is cute.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

It’s all about training them to it. I can see a cat who would enjoy the protection of the stroller as its cave. Safe way for kitty to get more stimulation.

    • Esmom says:

I think my cat would like a stroller. I’ve tried a leash and she just can’t deal with the harness. But my family is giving me a hard NO on a stroller purchase. I probably will do it anyway, they don’t have to go out with us.

Cat looks like it’s enjoying the scenery. We have two different energy level dogs. One will be done after 20 mins or so and always ends up in our girls’ stroller. Works for us🤗

  5. bluemoonhorse says:

There’s plenty of cats that love strollers – look on IG and you’ll see how they train them for it. We bought one for our own cats and are still training them with it. Another option for kitty to enjoy the outdoors safely is a Catio (which we also have).

I like Jennifer and look at her IG about once a week. She’s been posting a lot about the events of the past three weeks and she’s been getting a lot of flak from a lot of her “fans”. She doesn’t respond to them, just lets them show their asses, but she continues to post. Good for her.

  7. Bex says:

Where I live you’re not allowed to have a cat outside unless it’s on a leash.

  8. OriginalLala says:

I want a stroller for my indoor-only cats, so they can safely enjoy the outdoors, hubby disagrees 🙁

  9. Tootsie45 says:

My cat LOVES going on walks. It’s some of our best quality time together. She likes to dash about and sniff and scratch and she likes me to watch and make admiring noises and gestures. She refuses to wear a leash though; in the beginning I put one on her and she became instantly paralyzed, fell over sideways and mewed pitifully until I took it off. Still, I can’t recommend cat walking more highly.

    • Esmom says:

So she doesn’t run away? The few times I tried to let my cat out without a leash have been a disaster. Once she grabbed a bird out of the air and another time she raced straight up a tree so far I almost had to call the fire department to get her down.

    • Dazed and Confused says:

My cat did the same thing when I tried putting a leash on her. We don’t go on walks, but we do take balcony strolls. She’s pretty picky about the outdoor conditions for her to go out. My other cat moves to the other side of the house when I open the balcony door. Cats are the best.

  10. EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

I love the stroller cat pictures so much. So much.

    • LaurenMichelle says:

Me too. It’s hilarious. Some folks are lashing out at Jen & Stroller Cat, but why? When I lived in suburbia 9 years ago, I saw stroller cats & dogs everywhere.
Some of these animals were elderly, injured, or refused to go for a walk because they were terrified of larger dogs, ducks, bicycles & deer. Jen’s cat looks perfectly happy.
Don’t agree with dragging a cat on a leash though..I find that disturbing & cruel.

    • lucy2 says:

I like the photos too, they’re cute! It’s a safe way to take their cat along with them.

I’m a little surprised to hear Jessica Seinfeld (blech) is a cat lady. Makes me dislike her slightly less, and imagine Jerry doesn’t like cats at all, so I find that amusing.

It’s weird that she refers to her pet as “it” though, unless I’m reading that wrong.

      • JoJo says:

She did call the cat “it” several times. But Ellen called it “it” first, which may be why Jen repeated it … I guess. I found her video of her taking her chicken to the vet last summer to be offputting as well. She tried to turn it into a funny IG post, and it just didn’t translate at all, at least not for me, since the chicken was dying.

  11. Lightpurple says:

Stroller Cat rules. One of our cats (the Maine Coon) will walk on a leash, the other will not.

  12. Jules says:

Omg the photos are just hilarious. Stroller Cat for president?

  13. Mumzy says:

My Indoor/outdoor cat loves to go along for walks with us around our suburban neighborhood, just like our dogs (though off-leash for her!). We usually start out and then see her running along behind to catch up! I am certain she would be thrilled with a stroller. She just likes to do what her fam is doing.

  14. Blerg says:

I like Jen and liked this interview. She seemed relaxed, and waited for Ellen to ask questions instead of getting nervous and filling up the quiet with chatter. I really do think she’s best when she’s not promoting things or being Hollywood-y. She seems really natural with her non-profit work, with her kids, and being kind to people. And now I want a cat stroller.
