Lisa Rinna claims a flock of Karens complained to QVC about Rinna’s liberal politics

As a group, I would consider all of the white Real Housewives to be de facto Karens. That is their vibe, on the whole, although I’ll consider arguments that certain individual Real Housewives are not at that Karen level. But sometimes Karens don’t know they’re Karens until someone tries to take away their QVC line! So it is with Real Housewife of Beverly Hills Lisa Rinna. To her credit, I suppose, Rinna has been posting some allyship messages to the LGBTQ community, Black Lives Matter and more. And apparently a roaming flock of Karens complained to QVC:

Lisa Rinna won’t let anyone stop her from voicing her political views. The designer of the Lisa Rinna Collection, which is sold exclusively at QVC, spoke out on her Instagram Story on Wednesday after critics she described as “Karens” allegedly complained to the company and attempted to get her booted because of her political beliefs.

“I am sad to report it would now seem I can’t use my platform to inform or question or say how I feel politically because the Karen’s have bombarded QVC begging them to fire me and saying they will no longer buy my clothes,” Rinna wrote. “It is a shame that I must be muzzled in order to support my family but that is just what it is. Remember you know how I feel. Use your voice and vote,” she continued.

In another post on her Instagram Story filled with stickers that said “QUEER,” “PROUD TO BE PROUD,” “BLACK TRANS LIVES MATTERS,” and “THIS FIGHT AIN’T OVER,” Rinna made it clear that she’s proud to voice her opinions. “I will be on the right side of history and in the end THAT IS WHAT MATTERS MOST,” she wrote.

The internet has started using the name “Karen” to describe a woman who acts entitled or demanding beyond what is considered appropriate. The New York Times described a “Karen” as the “policewomen of all human behavior” in a 2019 piece. While it’s not exactly clear which of Rinna’s social media posts the “Karens” were upset by, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 56, has posted in support of the Black Lives Matter movement numerous times, Pride Month and the recent Supreme Court decision prohibiting discrimination against LGBTQ people in the workplace.

So Karens actually contacted QVC to demand that they (QVC) get Lisa to shut up about politics on her own social media? WTF? I mean, it would be one thing if Rinna and her team were posting tons of political messages on the business’s social media, but to complain about Rinna using her own Instagram to post messages? And I looked through Rinna’s IG and IG Stories – she’s not saying anything controversial whatsoever. Anyway, I would have thought that Lisa Rinna would be the Queen of Karens but it turns out she’s a victim of Karens.

It’s QVC-would you expect anything different from their viewers? Blech.

  2. MissMarierose says:

I think the word for a group of these women isn’t flock; it should be a “klan of Karens.”

  3. Darla says:

So, I developed a bit of a home shopping addiction in the aughts which I’m completely over now. I would take an educated guess that QVC has the most southern conservative viewership of the big 3. HSN the least. And ShopNBC which has another name now i forget what, is in between. Anyway, this is not a surprise and I have no doubt at all that QVC was BOMBARDED with complaints.

  4. Golly Gee says:

Smart move. There’s no way QVC can cancel her now without taking a major PR and probable financial hit.

  5. Leah says:

Karens don’t believe in free speech unless they are calling the cops on innocent minorities or calling the manager on people who are protesting an outrage about the damage that these Karens do.

These women have the option to not watch her show or the network, have they not heard of an invention called “the remote control”?

  6. Talie says:

I’m not surprised they would be the main audience for her dusters, but if sales drop off, she’ll be dropped. That’s how those home shopping networks, well, work.

  7. Valerie says:

All Karens have some variation of ‘be kind’ in their profiles, and usually have the most negative, deranged posts under it.

  8. Teresa says:

I don’t know much about Lisa but I agree nothing in this article leads me to think her stance is anything less than reasonable.

Now I know people who watch QVC and I have heard them say this week that Nancy Pelosi is a rude vile woman (and Trump isn’t?) and Donald has done more for black people than Obama (literally what?). So am I surprised? No I’m not. That being said I love QVC. When I’m home alone I leave it on as background noise at night because I know it never shows scary movie trailers

soooo, I’ve watched bits of RHOBH and she’s very open about her political leanings, including having an argument with Camille Grammar about Brett Kavanaugh. She has, however, made some incredibly ignorant statements on her SM the past few years (off the top of my head, she made some rude comments about people wearing ashes on Ash Wednesday – I guess she’s never met a practicing Catholic? – that people complained about)

  9. Darby says:

The correct term for a group of Karens is an Outrage of Karens

  10. GR says:

I think the collective noun is “a sneer of karens.” And their male counterparts are”a bro of chads.”

  11. HEMP says:

We’re been using a “privilege of Karens”.

  12. RedWeatherTiger says:

Actually, the women who post on QVC discussion forums (ahem) have hated Lisa for years because they believe she is a fat-shamer.

There may be Karens who don’t like her politics, but that’s not all they don’t like.

    • Courtney B says:

That’s what I was thinking. I watch RHOBH and she pissed off a lot of people with her antics. The gossip sites were full of complaints and vows to boycott qvc. She had a segment of antiKavanagh views and no one complained about her politics then. I think she’s starting to get a backlash because of her on screen behavior.

      • anon says:

“She had a segment of antiKavanagh views and no one complained about her politics then” Are you sure?

  13. Mmmmm... says:

So why back down? She’s rich. She has a platform. Does she really need QVC? Nothing is going to change until privileged white people make sacrifices and stop caring about what they might lose by speaking up. She should tell them to buzz off.

    • pottymouth pup says:

QVC helps pay for the family’s lifestyle. She’s not getting many acting gigs so this is her money maker. Harry works consistently but he’s not a star and probably not commanding what would be considered high salary in Hollywood

      • Chanteloup says:

I’m with Mmmmm… Do what’s right, privileged rich white lady Lisa Rinna, and possibly suffer a teensy bit. Otherwise – all your postured support is just blather.

  14. anp says:

I think Rinna is a terrific person.

  15. Natasha says:

I love watching QVC. And I don’t think they’re making the big bucks they used to- so yeah they’re going to cater to their most devoted customers. It might not be the “right” thing to do but it’s how they survive in business; numbers do the talking.
If the Lisa supporters would put their money where their mouth is this would be different.

  16. Rachel says:

Re: “I would have thought that Lisa Rinna would be the Queen of Karens but it turns out she’s a victim of Karens” – Being liberal/progressive does not make any white woman immune to being a Karen. It has been instilled in us (I say, as a white woman) that we can weaponize our white womanhood at any time we need it. I am not suggesting Lisa has done anything Karen-like, just saying that having progressive politics and benefiting from white supremacy are not mutually exclusive.

We all need to be diligent in being anti-racist and make sure no we have no Karen slip ups.
