Catherine Zeta Jones has a new lifestyle brand/label called Casa Zeta Jones

SAG Awards Arrivals 2019

“Lifestyle brands” didn’t start with Gwyneth Paltrow, but Goop is currently the most profitable and most infuriating example of the celebrity lifestyle brand. And I’m using Gwyneth as an example here because I don’t really consider Rihanna’s various Fenty ventures to be really “lifestyle brands” as much as they’re stand-alone successful businesses unattached to the larger “here’s how rich, bored white women should live” lifestyle brand bonanza. Anyway, speaking of bored rich women, Catherine Zeta-Jones is now in the lifestyle brand business. She’s named her brand Casa Zeta-Jones:

Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to rival fellow Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow by launching her own Goop-inspired lifestyle brand. The Welsh actress will this week launch her Casa Zeta-Jones range featuring vegan shoes, coffee, love spoons and make-up. Friends say she is hoping her new project will boost her profile and give her something to ‘focus on’ as her children get older.

Miss Zeta-Jones, 50, said of her venture, which she hopes will be as lucrative as Miss Paltrow’s: ‘Everything I have designed has truly been a passion project. I wanted to take this passion a step further and create a brand that’s beautiful and luxurious, while still being attainable.’

Her main priority, it is understood, is her range of flat pumps which will sell for a modest £50 a pair. Described as being ‘made from the finest vegan leather’, she hopes that they will be attractive to ‘woke’ yet fashion conscious women. She also offers dressing gowns, slippers and duvet sets in her collection.

This reminds me more of the old-school ventures of someone like Jennifer Lopez (whose Kohl’s line is successful and quite good-quality) and, like, Kathy Ireland. Remember Kathy Ireland? She had successful home and fashion lines too. Gwyneth is selling a completely different kind of thing – wellness, rich-bitch fashion, fake science. Catherine is selling reasonably priced vegan shoes and duvets. Speaking of, we got a promotional email from Casa Zeta Jones and it’s amazing. I’m including the promotional image below, for these “Butterfly Twist” flats she’s selling on her Casa Zeta Jones site. So far, she’s only got the shoe section up and running, but there are sections for Coffee, Beauty, Sportswear, Dance/Leisure and Home Decor. I wonder how much Michael Douglas had to shell out for this.

  1. Züri says:

Just no. I’m not going to buy a half-arsed knockoff of India Hicks’ lifestyle brand. Two other rather superficial bits: 1. has anyone seen the new pic of CZJ pushing her daughter on us a la Sailor Brinkley Cook? 2. Is it me or is CZJ slowly becoming the second coming of Jocelyn Wildenstein?

    • Enny says:

C Z-J has always been such a beautiful woman, but has also long been accused of shaving years off her age. Now it’s gotten ridiculous. She looks pinched and tight and, yes, cat like, and if she’s 50 (a mere 9 years older than me), I’ll eat my hat.

      • BW says:

I was thinking she was looking rather stretched. “I feel thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.”

      • shalla7 says:

Speaking of stretched: I know ears continue to grow throughout our lifetimes (great, something else to look forward to–smh), and wearing heavy earrings doesn’t help either, but wow–her ears look very long.

      • Boxy Lady says:

She’s been a professional actor since she was 9 and UK birth records are public records. If she was not born in 1969, someone credible would have pointed it out by now.

      • Granger says:

I’m 49 and she doesn’t look older than 50 to me. I think plastic surgery ages a lot of women far more than they believe it does, though.

And isn’t she a smoker? Or maybe she doesn’t smoke anymore, but I’m pretty sure she did. That ages you too.

      • SpankFD says:

shalla7: I’m co-signing the ears observation. Nice catch.

    • Holly hobby says:

She was so beautiful and it’s a shame she fell into the plastic trap. She doesn’t look like herself anymore.

She’s been doing the Casa zeta thing for about 2 years now. I follow her Facebook and she’s been promoting home goods. She also sold on qvc so not as fancy as she likes is to believe.

Also stop making carys happen. She’s not going to happen. Cute girl but that’s it. She doesn’t stand out. I wish she’d get an education like the brother.

  2. Sarah says:

I quite like the shoes but I’m a sucker for a good pair of flats.

    • Sarah says:

However seconded on the ref to the works she’s having dome on her face, therapy may cost more but i think the inner peace would be worth it.

  3. Milly says:

Why “Casa”? Why not play on her Welsh heritage instead?

  4. Slowdown says:

Vegan leather is as polluting apparently as leather so there is really very little research to her venture.
Also is it time-deaf to launch a website called Casa that provides stuff that you can just google yourself with the added bonus of comparing straight away with other brands and prices.
Also tone-deaf because… pandemic, world crisis, worst economic recession since 1870, systemic racism, and on and on and on…

    • Nanea says:

      Right.

Most vegan leather is made from polyurethane, and the solvents that are used in producing it are highly toxic.

Unlike leather made from a cow, a product made out of PU won’t biodegrade anytime soon, and can’t be recycled.

    • Jules says:

      this ^

  5. Tanguerita says:

What is with the awkward pose? is she unobtrusively trying to scrape the shit off her shoe sole?

    • Jules says:

Lol it is so awkward! Everything about this photo, from the horrible outfit to the off-balance pose.

  6. Mireille says:

Her whole look in that pose screams LL Bean catalog. No thanks, Catherine.

    • BeanieBean says:

Except that’s probably a very expensive silk blouse, very expensive jeans, and very expensive belt, paired with her cheap shoes which she’d never ordinarily wear.

      • Milly says:

I know, right? Those shoes look cheap even in the promo photo.

      • Heylee says:

It has always bothered me when famous people make things and try to sell them to us “peons” that they would never naturally wear/ use themselves.

      • Giddy says:

Thank you. I didn’t know if it was my lack of caffeine that was making me look at those shoes with such disdain. They look cheap, gap at the sides, and seem to provide no support. No thank you. Isn’t she Welsh? Here’s what I remember from a favorite Welsh shop: lovely woven throws and wraps in soft, misty colors, hand thrown pottery that I craved, wonderful leather half-boots and gorgeous belts and bags and beautiful silver jewelry. Yuck to the cheap shoes that look like they came from a Mexican market.

  7. Atti says:

Not interested but kudos for the nice name. Casa Zeta Jones rolls of the tongue.

Edit: didnt realise what language «Casa» is. Ooops

  8. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I don’t understand casa. The Latin or romance languages cover quite a bit of territory, but certainly not Wales or anywhere in Great Britain for that matter. And doesn’t she live in NY? Why not just say House Zeta Jones? House CZ? She’s a spoiled turd lol. I thought she was older than fifty years ago.

    • Lemons says:

If a celebrity used a French or Italian word that everyone knows, I also wouldn’t chastise them for it. If it sounded dumb, sure. But I understand her thinking.

Casa=home, starts with a C, and is a great place to start promoting the home goods that she will inevitably be shilling on her site.

    • North of Boston says:

Didn’t she and Michael Douglas have a home in Spain, on Mallorca? Maybe that was the inspiration for the Spanish in the brand name.

Though I remember his ex-wife throwing some shade at them about the home – since she had spent time on Mallorca since she was a child, and introduced Douglas to the island, and they had bought the property together. IIRC, she didn’t like the idea of MD and CZJ spending time there or wanting to buy her half of the property from her. Something like “she doesn’t even speak Spanish or understand the culture, why would she want a house here”. No idea if any of them still own the house or spend time there.

  9. Chick b says:

She originally started this brand on QVC and it was limited to home decor. Some of it was a bit meh but I remember coveting the faux fur throws.

  10. lucy2 says:

I don’t really like the shoes, but good luck to her. If she keeps things in an affordable range, unlike Goop, maybe she’ll do OK with it. Better to focus on that than trying to push her daughter into the spotlight.

  11. Izzy says:

Oh yay, another celebrity lifestyle brand.

  12. B says:

    There’s no way she’s only 50.

  13. Jaded says:

Just what we need in the time of pandemic, money and job losses – another rich-bitch, self-aggrandizing and over-priced lifestyle brand. No thanks.

  14. shanaynay says:

She’s had sooooo much work done to her face. She;s going to be looking like the cat lady soon.
I don’t buy the BS that she’s only 50 either.

  15. SJR says:

That photo of CZJ and Michael is old style hollywood royalty. I like it.

Michael has a show on Netflix with Alan Arkin called The Komi sky Method, very enjoyable.
Kirk Douglas donated $Millions to charity, built playgrounds in Israel, started and funded a theater named after him, etc.

Why another lifestyle brand? No thanks. Try something useful, start a foundation to help others.

And encouraging their daughter to be a model/poser/whatever you want to call it, no need.
All these celeb kids doing nothing but posting photos, I call BS. Get an education, travel, volunteer, etc. I am showing my age but, when the parents are multi-millionaires, why do they raise such boring, useless kids?

Just My opinion, not trying to start anything.

  16. Jaxonmeh says:

I finally watched Chicago for the first time recently. She was absolutely electric in it and it made me remember all the films I’ve watched her in when she first came onto the scene. She absolutely had the “it factor” back in the day and was always fun to watch.

I do have a soft spot for her and maybe she really just needs something to keep her busy. She’s supposedly had some mental health issues so if this fills her time, then cool. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s also not meant to be. I hope she has some success with it.

    • Holly hobby says:

I read that because of her mental health issues some in Hollywood refused to hire her. That plus her age is probably why her career went down. Such a shame.

    • Lucy2 says:

She was great in Chicago! She’s gotten more open about her struggles in the past for years, I agree that I hope this is some thing that is good for her.

I find it surprising she hasn’t continue to work as an actress though. Unless she was extremely difficult on set, but I never really heard that.

  17. Renee says:

I bought some of her bedding & candle holders under the Casa Zeta Jones line on QVC about 2 years ago. They are decent quality but nothing outstanding.
