Serena Williams’ 2020 US Open dress is kind of a flimsy red nightie, right?

Welcome back, @serenawilliams 👋

Tennis Bubble Life has been happening in New York for the past few weeks, as players from around the world gathered in Queens for the Western & Southern Open, and now the US Open, which started on Monday. Only a handful of players have private accommodations and everybody else is staying in the two tournament-approved hotels near the site. Serena Williams is one of the players with special accommodations, and she has her family (her husband and her daughter) with her, as well as her team (coach and physio, by the looks of it). Serena didn’t play particularly well in the lead-up events to the US Open, and many Serena fans are sort of desolate at the thought that this won’t be the year she gets to #24.

Anyway, I always like talking about Serena’s on and off court fashion, so what do we have here? This Nike kit is kind of basic, right? I mean, in recent years, we’ve seen catsuits and deranged ballerina ensembles, so an orange-red ruffled nightgown seems off-brand, in general. The fabric on the skirt is super-flimsy too, making it seem even more like a nightie. My favorite part of the look was Serena’s two red pom-poms at the root of her ponytail. Super-cute. Serena also won her match, and it was her 102nd match win *just* in New York – she broke Chris Evert’s record.

Yesterday was also Olympia’s third birthday. Serena is a Jehovah’s Witness and she’s said before that she doesn’t do birthdays. Still, I bet she didn’t expect to spend the entire day waiting around for Andy Murray to finish his match! That old man with a metal hip played for nearly five hours, all to win his first round. Serena did say later that she was rooting for him the whole time. They love each other so much!!

Here’s a video of Serena’s highlights, you can see her dress better here.

I love Serena but I do not like her fashion choices.

    • Becks1 says:

I dislike her fashion choices too, but so much that I kind of love them. Like, its just interesting to see what she is going to wear next. She’s never boring on the court, in play or clothes.

    • Flamingo says:

The only on court outfit that I’ve really liked was the catsuit. That was badass.

  2. Chaine says:

I love it. The color enhances her aura of power.

  3. Mrs. Peel says:

I don’t care for the poofy overcoat, but I love the tennis dress.

  4. Karina Ciprian says:

I actually really love the simplicity of it. Also Serena in bold colors is my favorite.

  5. lucy2 says:

I love the hair accessory! A fun touch added to her look.
I don’t know much about tennis, but I always root for her.

I didn’t hate it. It was light and not restrictive. I agree with others that it’s got some orange tinge to it. I love the pom poms, especially with it being Olympia’s birthday. I thought it was a nod to her, even though, Jehovah’s Witness don’t celebrate them.

  7. Lavande says:

Tomato red like this is the only red I like, and it’s great with the white accents. I’d wear this and the hair thing too. White shoes would be cuter for me

  8. Jessi says:

    I love her sneakers!

  9. Catherine says:

    Chrissy was big mad 😂😂😂😂

Venus had a beautiful kit, I’m sick about her match.

Andy….prayers. He tapped into his Scottish grit and dug out. I hope he’s okay.

    • Lala says:

Venus always wears tennis clothes from her own tennis line, Eleven By Venus. It’s actually a really good line, nice fit and quality.

Also. Very sick about Kim Clijsters – she’s such an awesome talent. I hope she keeps working for it

  11. coffee_coffee_coffee says:

Wow is she strong. I didn’t notice the outfit as much as the muscles and power, so maybe the dress did its job! 🙂

  12. SomeChick says:

She’s JW? Why do they not celebrate birthdays?

  13. Geeena says:

I like it! but there’s a flimy nightie feeling to the skirt

I honestly don’t think Serena has it in her to win another grand slam, but she’s such a powerful player that she’ll probably surprise me. She’s definitely still the GOAT, though.

I’m sorry I missed Andy Murray’s match. He’s been my fave male player for years now. Especially since Djokovic has turned out to be a douche. I was hoping for some coverage of him forming his new “no girls allowed” players association. Because I’m still having a hard time believing he doesn’t understand how bad that looks. I know he’s against equal prize money for women, but to exclude women entirely?
