Lyra is a beautiful name! Antarctica is rather quirky but it’s cute as a middle name. Wonder what the significance is.

  2. Sam the Pink says:

Most overrated film of ALL time? I’d say Gone With the Wind, honestly. I can appreciate that at the time it was made, it was a masterful achievement of filmmaking. But oh boy has it aged terribly. And I’ve actually watched it beginning to end. It’s just way too problematic to have the same appreciation today, although I still hear people praising it.

  3. Faye G says:

Congrats to them! I wonder if he’s a Golden Compass fan? Either way it’s a cool name

    • Humbugged says:

      He is

“In 2015 he tweeted: “Bar far, Philip Pullman – His Dark Materials are the best books I’ve ever read.”

He also described the books as the “greatest love story ever told” when he appeared on Desert Island Discs.

And his fans have been taking to Twitter to guess that he was inspired by his favourite books”

  4. Lucy says:

I like Lyra! It reminds me of His Dark Materials. Congrats to Ed and Cherry! I can’t believe she’s given birth already.

  5. Elisa the I. says:

    Congrats! Lyra sounds lovely!

  6. LolaB says:

Y’all should bring back Hot Guy Friday for morale purposes. I nominate Maluma.

  7. Nina says:

I don’t mind funky middle names — if you’re going to get weird, middle names are the ones to do it with. My former boss, who is a huge Batman fan, gave the middle-name ‘Batgirl’ to one of his daughters.

    I like Lyra! It’s a pretty name.

  8. Snazzy says:

Most overrated movie? Citizen Kane. I couldn’t even get through it.

    • Stacy Dresden says:

100% Citizen Kane uggggh. Or how about the laughably unrealistic, emotionally manipulative, and downright corny “Crash” that won Best Film!

  9. KellyKellyKell says:

I’d say Avatar is the most overrated movie of all time. Probably followed by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or Scarface or Gravity. Also going to say The Hurt Locker and that Bradley Cooper sniper film people loved a few years ago.

    • Valerie says:

Scarface sucks. Having seen the original, I can’t really see what inspired Pacino to do a remake. Maybe he thought he could improve upon it, but it doesn’t sound like that was the case because his was an homage. It’s just bad, lol, and I say that as a big Al fan.

      • BeanieBean says:

Yeah, there was no reason to remake Scarface. The original was perfection for its time & fits well with that early genre–Public Enemy, Angels with Dirty Faces, Little Caesar.

    • Valerie says:

However, OUATIH is actually pretty good. I’m not even a Tarantino fan; I caved and watched it because of Pacino, and it was surprisingly well-done. I don’t know if I liked Margot’s interpretation of Sharon, but her family approved it, and they’re the authority!

    • katharine says:

I couldn’t get through OUATIH–so pointless, so self-indulgent, so UGH.

    • Snazzy says:

Ohh I HATED OUATIH – what a waste of my life

    • Case says:

I loved OUATIH, but I enjoy Tarantino movies. I do believe Avatar is overrated — it made a bunch of money because it used new 3D tech, not because it’s a great piece of art. It’s a very standard action movie to me, and it DEFINITELY did not have the cultural staying power to deserve a whole land at Disney World.

    • manta says:

OUATIH may be an overrated film of the last few years but not of all time. It had good reviews but even them didn’t label it a masterpiece belonging to the pantheon of cinema.

I reserved the “most overrated of all times” for those consistently on top of rankinf of must see films. 2001: a space odyssey is a good example, Singing in the rain bores me to death.
Add to the list most Godard’s or Renoir’s movies. Yeah, that is overrated.

Oh, I almost forgot Breakfatst at Tiffany’s whose the legendary charm totally eludes me (but I’m probably alone on the planet for this one)

  10. Abby says:

Lyra is close to Lyric, too.
The Antartica thing….. I can’t. Two of my kids have three names, but they aren’t the mouthful this lil girl is going to handle! Lyra Seaborn Sheeran would have been pretty cool.

Also, that picture would have had me guess boy, so it’s kind of fun that the blue/green/brown/navy stuff ended up being for a little girl.

  11. Case says:

Most overrated movies for me are Good Will Hunting and Forrest Gump. They were both fine but I didn’t think they were wonderful films by any stretch.

  12. Ai says:

Ah I knew Lyra was related to His Dark Materials trilogy somehow. They are one of the best series I have read too.

  13. dlc says:

I’m down with Avatar being most overrated. The plot and characters were thin, only a big deal because of the new technology.

Re: the VMAs. Could one take a screengrab of the event and count that as a “photo?” Times are strange. Also, why does the Weeknd’s nose look like it was bashed in? Ouch!
