Eric Trump said he was ‘part of’ the LGBTQ community, then he took it back

Trump visits FEMA headquarters for a briefing on Hurricane Laura

I often wonder which Trump man is the dumbest. Is it Donald Trump? Don Jr? Or is it Eric? It’s widely assumed, I think, that Don is smarter than Eric, but I’ve never seen evidence of that. One thing is for sure: this is a family of dipsh-ts. I bring this up because hours before the debate yesterday, Eric Trump appeared on Fox News to talk about the election and his father and God even knows. Fox News tried to do the most by reading a letter from a gay person who secretly supports Donald Trump but doesn’t tell anyone because they don’t want to be judged (correctly) as a white supremacist fascist. This is what happened:

Yes, Eric Trump came out of the closet on Fox News. He said: “I’m telling you, I see it every day, the LGBT community, they are incredible and you should see how they’ve come out in full force for my father every single day. I’m part of that community and we love the man and thank you for protecting our neighborhoods and thank you for protecting our cities.” He’s part of the LGBTQ community, y’all. Happy Belated Pride Month! Obviously, Eric Trump took it back… OR DID HE?

President Trump’s son Eric affirmed he is not “part of” the LGBT community after appearing to come out in a televised interview Tuesday. A friend of the Trump family told The Post that “he misspoke” when appearing to say he was “part of that community” hours before his father’s first debate with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Trump later told The Post he was simply trying to paraphrase what LGBT supporters have said about his father. “To clarify, many of our close friends are part of the LGBT community, which was the intent of my statement — the left has taken that vote for granted for a long time and support from the gay community for my father is incredible,” Trump said.

“As to me personally, as I think you know, I am a happily married man to my wife, Lara,” said Trump, 36, who is married to Trump campaign adviser Lara Trump, with whom he has two children.

Trump also affirmed that he is not bisexual.

[From The NY Post]

Um, you know there are tons of gay men who are “happily married” to their wives as well? Saying “How can I be gay, I’m married to a woman” is not actually a denial. That being said – and I know I’m looking for a silver lining where there is none – Eric’s denial could have been a lot worse and it could have been homophobic as hell and I’m glad he didn’t go there.

I think he’s just stupid and doesn’t realize what the letters LGBTQ mean.

    • Agirlandherdog says:

      Agreed.

      • OnceUponA says:

No, he misspoke because he can’t make a comprehensive sentence. He meant to say, “I’m in the community” that loves his Dad.

They’ll pretend to align with anyone who obeys. Remember, “Where’s my black guy?”

        Then they destroy you.

    • OriginalLeigh says:

Agreed. I think that he meant to say that he’s an ally but didn’t know how to express that correctly. (He’s also not a true ally since he supports his father’s homophobic and transphobic platform.)

I have also wondered why he is always singled out as being the “dumb one” when they all seem to be equally idiotic?

      • holly hobby says:

Seriously it’s a race to the bottom. I’m including unfortunate Tiffany in this race too (we have a right to include her in this now that she went all in on daddy dearest at the GOP convention).

    • Marjiscott says:

Agreed! Had no idea what those letters meant.
      What a maroon!

    • H says:

LGBTQ “protecting” communities? I think he thought Fox was talking about the police FOP and is too stupid to realize what LGBTQ means.

      • Esmom says:

Yeah, that did not make sense at all. Eric seems less evil than Junior or Ivanka to me, although I have to remember that he was stealing from his children’s charity…ugh.

    • molly says:

100% this. He didn’t know what it meant. Nothing more than the fact that he is incredibly stupid.

    • lucy2 says:

Totally. Probably thought it was some form of law enforcement. He is incredibly stupid.

  2. Digital Unicorn says:

Hmm, I could see him being bi but Daddy would not be happy about it either way but then again its Eric would he even care.

Also, the LGTB+ community have been through enough as it is without a Trump joining them.

  3. Leskat says:

I wouldn’t trust him to know what the phrase “part of the community” even means. He’s a dolt and I bet if you asked he wouldn’t be able to expand on the LGBTQIA acronym. Plus no one in that community wants him there anyway!

  4. Milkweed says:

    OMG!! That is so dumb.

  5. Nanny to the Rescue says:

Eric Trump is dumb, so this is probably just a blunder, but I’ve seen more and more people “identifying with the LGBT+ community”, adding offensive letters to the end of this (like LGBTWTF, LGBTFY etc.), because “apparently you can identify as anything now, so I identify as a queer comet” or something. It’s their way to discredit “identity politics”.

  6. Miumiiiu says:

He’s made worse mistakes, so I’m not left with the impression of him being good at speaking on his feet. He used the wrong words. It is funny how he said « we love the man » though. What even is that

  7. Leah says:

When he did that I wasn’t shocked because that’s the depths they reach. What’s weird is, some people bought him at his word and said “good on him for coming out”. He wasn’t coming out, he was exploiting a vulnerable population and using them for his own gain.

  8. Noodle says:

I’m sure he has skills and strengths that serve him well in life. Campaigning for his father and giving interviews is not one of them. Bless his heart.

  9. vertes says:

I don’t think his “I’m part of that community” means his bi- or gay. I think he meant he’s has an affinity with some members of that community. His word choice was ambiguous & can get easily jumped on by trump foes who want to make it a thing. I just think this guy was behind the door when brains were distributed. I consider myself a peripheral part of several groups of people I know & socialize with who are bound by their specific alma maters, religions, professions, etc., which are all different than mine.

    • Jensies says:

I think I get what you’re trying to say, that he’s maybe identifying as an ally rather than actually queer, though he’s definitely not an ally either. The thing that I think is different from the LGBTQ+ community that’s different than an alma mater or professional affiliation is that this is often a group that’s experienced a lot of pain and trauma and harassment from just existing. Also, Eric is an idiot. In the tight contest between dumbest Drumpf, he’s a weak chin ahead.

  10. Stacy Dresden says:

I cannot believe LGBT people support this administration. My neighbors are an old gay couple, both Republican, both love Trump because they are racist. One is Jewish, I am going to have to ask him how he feels about Trump’s honorable mention and clear directive to the neo Nazi group during the debate last night.

  11. Veronica S. says:

LOL, as if anybody with five brain cells in the LGBT+ community would embrace this dude as one of us. Here’s one situation I’m keeping the gate closed. Get wrecked, loser. Daddy won’t love you either way.

  12. Cava24 says:

He’s not signaling anything, he’s clearly just stupid but an older, gay, male friend of mine often said “The three dumbest words in the English language are ‘But he’s married.”

  13. Ange says:

I think he is probably gay or bi and it was a freudian slip, I used to make those a lot when I was still in the closet. I know how painful it is to have to hide who you are and I hope he’s suffering. He doesn’t get to be a part of this beautiful community….we don’t want him.

  14. Betty says:

My boss is gay and a bigly Trump supporter. I can’t wrap my head around it.

    • Roo says:

The Log Cabin Republicans! They are a mystery to me, too.

    • Otaku fairy says:

Some of them seem to get their self-esteem from not being seen as ‘screaming about rights’, and being palatable enough to be welcomed in conservative spaces. Plus they have people they’d like to help oppress too. I don’t think Trump was coming out though. He’s just dumb, and was trying to use the community as a shield. I’ve noticed that a lot of people with conservative agendas seem to think that’s how this all works.

    • KLO says:

I can see it, Trump has been openly gay friendly for decades. His longtime mentor and friend Roy Cohn was an openly gay man in his personal life(although Cohn prosecuted gay people in his earlier years, which was horrific, and never publicly came out).

Trump has expressed acceptance and support for gay men more than once on the Conan O´Brien talk shows.

  15. Charfromdarock says:

The biggest shock to me is that he’s only 36.

    Fascism ages.

  16. HatchetFace says:

Sad to say I know a few gay trump supporters, I honestly think each one of them is suffering from some form of mental illness. It’s no surprise that I distanced myself from them a good decade ago, but then now seeing them spouting their love of orange satan and hatred of black people and scientists is just incredible. After seeing this one individual in particular’s manic postings online, I saw the whole gay patriot thing, and I realized that although many if not most of them are probably russian trolls, at least a few of them are real people. I spoke to my father about it, just because I was so shocked and appalled by it, after initially thinking my former friend was being impersonated online and then realizing he was proud to promote violence, hatred and bigotry, while being a sexual minority. He said, he was sure that in a few year’s time when the social/political needle has pulled back towards the center, he’ll be back on the left-wing social justice warrior bandwagon stronger and more loudly than ever.

  17. Lyli says:

Donald Trump has hired every single member of his extended family it seems.

  18. Grant says:

I’m gay as hell and let me go on record saying that my community does NOT support Trump. YIKES.

  19. Iwonder says:

Hannah Gadsby explains being gay and homophobic in Nanette, which is a work of genius for anyone who hasn’t watched it yet. See also; Caitlyn Jenner

  20. Isadora says:

Please don’t exclude Tiffany Trump from the narrative. As evidenced by her social media and selfies in the WH and on Air Force One she loves daddy very much and she’s happy to stand by him. There’s a misunderstanding in the media that Tiffany was excluded after Twitler’s split from Marla but all past pictures has Tiffany included with the family gatherings. And by the stories that she was often spending time with daddy in NY. Twitler paid for her education and she took part in interviews with her siblings to promote Twitler’s 2016 bid for the presidency. And Marla is a Hillsong, anti-vaxx cook who retweets conspiracy crap and claims to be all about love while she posts about how her ex-husband doing a great job. *ugh*

Apart from maybe Barron & Mary Trump who I give pass for now there are no people in Twitler’s family considered to be good or even intelligent.
