Melania Trump’s ‘Substance Abuse Prevention Month’ video is also bonkers

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit Bondi Beach

During this week’s presidential debate, Donald Trump was increasingly snide and hateful about Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s only living son. Joe Biden was trying to speak about his late son Beau, who served in the military, and Trump kept interrupting him to try to needle him about Hunter’s drug addiction. True story: while Beau was the saintly brother, Hunter has been a mess for years. Substance abuse issues, financial problems, a shambolic romantic life. Hunter was always going to be Joe Biden’s weak spot, but I think it says something about Joe Biden that he hasn’t given up on Hunter, and that he’s always tried to support what’s best for Hunter, including supporting Hunter as he is in recovery from drug addiction.

I was expecting the Trumpers to attack Hunter to get at his dad. But I honestly didn’t expect all of the drug talk. After the debate, Don Jr. even called Hunter a “crackhead,” which is pretty rich given Don’s general ‘80s cokehead aura. It’s also pretty rich because people swear up and down that Donald Trump is a rampant Adderall sniffer/user. Given all that… perhaps this was the wrong moment for Melania Trump to say something about National Substance Use Prevention Month?

Okay, first of all, what even is this video. Did Melania come in, see the camera position, and she was like “I got this, I know where to stand” and no one corrected her? She’s talking over her shoulder like she’s performing in a commercial for a designer perfume knockoff. “You will like zee purfum, all brans, including Gucki, Bior, Chanell and Burrberry!” Second of all, the combover wiglet is… a feat of engineering. OH MY GOD. Third of all… she’s a tacky bitch who supported her husband’s Birther bulls–t, wore the “I Don’t Care, DO U” coat to see children in cages, and now she’s trolling families dealing with addiction? Be Best, you fraud.

She’s a puff of corrosive air.

  3. Badrockandroll says:

and she’s growing more orange every day.

  4. Daisyfly says:

    Blue steel?

    More like Tangerine base metal.

  5. Carol says:

At first I thought the header image was that of Carole Radziwill. Anyway, Melania is a joke. I dont even think Trumpers have any opinion of her.

    • DANIELLE J CHARRON says:

Oh, they do. They think she’s a classy lady as in “finally we have a classy lady in the White House.”

      • booboocita says:

Oh, yeah. Classy lady. As in, the only First Lady in the history of the republic to pose nude. But Michelle Obama’s bare arms in a lovely black dress are obscene, of course.

  6. MsIam says:

Worst thing ever. She looks like she doing a commercial for a phone sex hotline. “Call me, I’m waiting to hear from you!”. Smh.

  7. Seraphina says:

OMG, Kaiser you are hilarious! When I watched this, I was like: I feel like I am watching an 80’s commercial for some beauty product. And as far as her initiative, I have rarely seen her or this. Now I am no fan of Nancy Regan, but she was VISIBLE and her message was everywhere. Melania need to give it up. We are not buy the BS she is selling.

  8. AL says:

The hair color is beautiful but her shoulders, the way she literally side-eyes the camera…it feels so…confrontational and snide. I kept wanting to reach through the screen and turn her shoulders towards me. This was an easy lay-up of PR if she showed even a sliver of compassion to soften her image from “Who *cares* about Christmas?” Grinch and blaming little kids for being essentially jailed (I mean who needs parents if you have a thin little mattress to hug you? #BeGrateful.) Yeah, decorations aren’t important in the grand scheme of things, but I think we could all look forward to a little bit of twinkling simplicity later this year. ..I’m grasping at straws at this point.

  9. Amy Bee says:

The video was just weird but this was probably the best of the takes she did.

  10. LaUnicaAngelina says:

The way DT attacked Hunter was atrocious. Addiction is a terrible disease that ravages people every day. My sister went to rehab in January this years and has been in recovery for 9 months now. She’s doing phenomenally! My brother was released from prison in March after serving 11 years in a 65 year sentence for drug charges. Staying sober is harder for him but he’s in outpatient treatment and participates in NA. Words of encouragement work wonderfully for him especially since almost his entire life he’s been written off as a thuggish druggie who’ll never change. DT is soulless garbage and there’s a special place in hell for him.

    • Busybody says:

@Launicaangelina strength to your family. My brother is also 9 months clean (after I scraped him off the floor and drove him to the ER when he finally called me on a Sunday morning when none of his friends or neighbors answered his calls). This embarrassing video from Melania just confirms that she doesn’t care, they don’t care.

    • whatWHAT? says:

my heart goes out to both of you, and any family that has to deal with this disease.

I wish for strength and recovery for your families.

    • Lightpurple says:

      Sending your family strength.

      • waitwhat says:

LaUnicaAngelina Success stories are so encouraging. Very happy for your sister and sending strength to your brother, as well as your entire family. Addition is a family disease and the havoc it brings can be devastating. You sound like a loving and supportive sister with tremendous courage. They are fortunate to have you.

  11. damejudi says:

Maybe I’m misremembering-but wasn’t “Be Best” supposed to be an anti-bullying initiative? Now, it’s morphed into “youths making healthy choices?”

    • MsIam says:

Yeah I guess that anti-bullying message didn’t go down to well, being married to the bully-in-chief and all. I guess they realize if she can’t even reign in her own husband how was she going to convince anyone else?

      • Queen Meghan's Hand says:

I think Melania simply forgot what it was originally about and so pulled “healthy choices” out of her butt.

    • equality says:

Has “be best” actually existed outside of a few Instagram posts?

  12. Lightpurple says:

Melania would like to show us her new wig by imitating the Breck Girl commercials of days gone by.

The hypocrisy of this is just beyond. Her husband and other family members are attacking Hunter Biden daily on every forum they can find while her stepson, who is the loudest of them all, is showing signs of a raging addiction of some sort.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

It’s soooooo hypocritical. As far as I can tell, most of the folks in their orbit are struggling with addiction. Don Jr seems like he’s totally off the rails (lol), Mel is rumored to have a pill problem, her husband alternates uppers & benzos, Guiliani is 3 sheets to the wind at any given time, Parscale is currently hospitalized, Kudlow slurs on TV every day, Jerry Falwell Jr’s drunk ass fell down the stairs recently…. But tell me more about Hunter Biden, who is in recovery. Lord, these people.

  13. Vegan says:

You mixed up Beau and Hunter, proof read your first sentences.

  14. Sarah says:

“In my time as First Lady I have worked”

    WRONG.

  15. Lucy says:

This looked and sounded like a parody. Like, how can SNL make it more bonkers” they can’t.

  16. Liz version 700 says:

This needs to be on the SNL premier. Someway somehow.

  17. detritus says:

Addiction is a mental health issue. It’s like depression, anxiety or other issues of the sort.

It does not mean weakness. It does not mean a lack of self control.

To treat it as a moral failing is abhorrent. To treat parents of those who face addiction as if they failed is ridiculous and hateful.

  18. Mee says:

I straight up laughed at this. Especially when she said “work” and “First Lady” in the same sentence.

  19. Jordana says:

I stopped the video at about 25s. Just couldnt do it . the angles the combover the words. My brain said it couldn’t anymore.

  20. BeanieBean says:

Aren’t we trying to prevent substance abuse, not substance use?

  21. Skyblue says:

Dear God!!!! When I watch this vapid, manufactured nonsense from Melania , I keep thinking about all the hate directed at Michelle Obama for eight damn years.

  22. storminateacup says:

She probably thinks she looks better in a 3/4 beauty pose (where you see 3/4 of her face) but not appropriate for addressing the public on serious issues and her hair is not styled properly for that pose. Doesn’t she have a PR person to advise her on body language?

  23. Yoyoma says:

    Presidential. Beyond.
