Under His Pinkeye: Kamala Harris wins debate against fly-covered misogynist

Unlike the first (and perhaps only) presidential debate, I actually stayed up for the VP debate. I did this because A) I love Kamala Harris and I wanted to see her prosecute the case against Trump-Pence on national television and B) I remember in the 2016 VP debate, being surprised by how easily the lies flow out of Mike Pence’s face. I’m not saying I like or respect Pence at all, but I can see why Republicans like him: he’s a lot glossier and more traditional than Trump. That being said, this was a horrible performance from Pence. He came out looking sickly and covid-y, with a raging case of pinkeye, and looking like he was holding in farts and coughs. He interrupted the female moderator AND Kamala Harris so many times, it was painful. It was like Toxic Masculinity: The Dude. He came across patronizing and sexist, and his lies were so obvious. Ugh. Here are some highlights:

This was one of the first “viral moments” of Pence interrupting her, but he did this like 30 times.

Non-scientific polling done in the minutes after the debate said that Kamala won, and women are disgusted with Pence’s bulls–t.

Mike Pence is so full of sh-t, a fly landed on him and stayed there for 2 minutes.

Story header of the year – well played 😀

  2. Digital Unicorn says:

The fly on his head. just sums up the whole Trump administration – rotting trash! I hope someone catches that poor fly and test it for COVID – Mother won’t be happy that a fly bothered her husband.

Haven’t watch the highlights yet but Kamala came out looking good.

    • Myra says:

I’m not a religious person but if this isn’t a sign from above (or below!)

      • Darla says:

Well, I’ve seen God’s hand in play the past two weeks, finally, and when that fly landed i just lost it. I was dying. It was there so long i thought it had gotten stuck in his hairspray and died. Oh it was great.

        Kamala Rocked!

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

As someone that grew up religious and might never really shake that side off… flies indicate filth, sin, rot, evil etc… they congregate around those qualities.
So, this is truth in humor

      • tempest prognosticator says:

Harris will be our next VP. Pence will be Lord of the Flies.

    • a reader says:

Saw a meme last night. It was a picture of RBG in her robes and it said, “I sent the fly.”

      LOL

  3. Lightpurple says:

“Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking. I’m speaking.”

He didn’t answer any questions, just kept talking nonsense.

The Debate Commission just announced the next debate will be virtual. Nobody wants to be near these disease ridden idiots.

    • Rapunzel says:

Trump is saying he won’t bother with a virtual debate. These mofos want to infect the Biden/Harris team.

      • I am Mimi says:

I’m convinced Pence is infected. His pinkeye was jarring. They want to infect the Biden/Harris team and then gloat about how “weak” they are. trump is pumped full of steroids to act like he’s tough.

      • whatWHAT? says:

I think they want to infect as many people as possible, including (especially?) as many of the Biden/Harris people as they can.

the attitude is “well, WE got it…THEY should, too!” even tho the B/H team is taking precautions and the 45/Pe(stile)nce (thank you for that!) team is not.

        evil to the core.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I am SO GLAD Doug walked onstage after WITH A MASK ON. Mother ripped hers off and she didn’t look that well, either.

I AM convinced that QTip and Mother are infected, esp. QTip; that pink eye is a dead giveaway. Mild or if it will get worse, no idea, but that robot is NOT well!

Mamala won the night! SO PROUD of our Gal from Cal!

      • Miranda says:

I wonder if that would qualify as criminal transmission (the sort of law that’s typically used to charge people who expose their partners to HIV without telling them).

      • MsIam says:

I believe Pence has COVID but they are keeping it secret. If he had to quarantine would Nancy assume authority? I think they would rather infect the whole state of Maryland than have even a chance of that happening.

  4. Sierra says:

The fly is the proof that Pence is a zombie as Pence stayed still and didn’t move a muscle. And after 2 minutes, like rest of the country, the fly got bored of the lies and left the room 😂

Kamala was brilliant as usual but she did hold back a few punches in my opinion.

And the moderators so far are a bunch of weaklings. Be like a teacher and switch off the mike if someone speaks over you.

    • dlc says:

I liked how this moderator interrupted pence repeatedly when he went over time. And to be fair, she did it to Harris too the few times she went over.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

She “interrupted” very unforcefully; it was barely worth the breath it took to utter the phrase “Your time is up”. WTH is SO HARD about switching off the mic??? You let them finish THE SENTENCE and then switch it OFF.

Our Traitorous Leader, MoldyMangoMussolini already pulled out of the next Pres. Debate because it will be virtual (as ALL of these should’ve been in Covid!!), and they CAN mute his addled a$$ when he goes over and out to space.
I think Joe should get that 90 Town Hall meeting all to himself, as he is still willing to go virtual.

    • Nina Simone says:

I’m pretty sure I’ve read that pink eye is a covid symptom. He most likely has it. His eyes looked deranged

      • Guest with Cat says:

It is. My eyes were weeping so bad I had to rinse them out with a salt water solution and antibiotics for weeks. It didn’t really help until all my other symptoms subsided.

When I saw his pink eye I shouted at the TV and startled our cats that Pence has Covid and still had the raw nerve and evil to try and insist there be no plexiglass barriers put up.

      • olliesmom says:

And you know that one of his aides probably told him “oh, yeah, no one will notice your inflamed pink eye”.

That fly is my hero. It makes me sad to find out that flies only have a lifespan of about 28 days.

    • Anna says:

Agreed @Jan90067 that Joe should get the whole meeting to himself.

  5. Aidevee says:

Pence to Harris: ‘stop playing politics with people’s lives’

Breathtaking hubris. I actually spat out my tea with disgust at that bit. Oh had the fly not flown into his mouth to shut him up.

    • Bettyrose says:

I don’t know if that was worse or him accusing Harris of scheming to pack the SC. Either way, the fly made its point about this hypocritical garbage effectively.

      • Guest with Cat says:

I loved her response to his badgering her about packing the Supreme Court. Trump’s base will be massively triggered!

  6. Jo73c says:

Mother’s Husband rides a white horse, and his name is Pe(stile)nce

  7. heygingersnaps says:

Ironically, my partner’s just decided to watch BBC’s adaptation of Dracula, 9 months after it was aired in January and in the first episode, a fly lands in Jonathan Harker’s head which then goes in his eye without him realising it, as he was already undead at that time.
That happening to pence coupled with his pinkeye is near uncanny.

  8. MerlinsMom1018 says:

    It wasn’t even close…
Kamala clinched it for MerlinsDad last night. My husband is from a VERY traditional Italian Roman Catholic family and he was absolutely disgusted by pence. He thought he was rude, disrespectful and a straight up liar. He was totally impressed by how Kamala utterly carried the debate.
Understand. He voted for trump last time, (very nearly wrecking our marriage) and has vocally regretted it ever since.

    • Miranda says:

I don’t even know your husband, but he has my admiration. I really appreciate any Trump voter who comes to his or her senses and admits that they made a mistake. I know WAYYYYY too many of his supporters who fully realize that Trump is a f**k-up, but refuse to admit that they were wrong (kind of like their beloved Il Douche,,,).

      • MerlinsMom1018 says:

        @Miranda
        Thank you for that
I have quite a few family members who are pro trump more than ever. I have cut them off with no regrets.

      • EveV says:

My dad voted for Trump but has finally come to see what an absolute dumbass he is. While I’m disappointed that he voted for Trump in the first place, I respect the fact that he admits Trump is a mistake. I am hopeful there are many more people out there like my dad and MerlinsDad. Blue wave all the way!

      • Miranda says:

@EveV – I think there are more people like that than we (and even the Republicans themselves) realize. Trump obviously has a disturbing number of die-hards, but a lot of his more “casual” voters are probably smart enough and sane enough to see that he’s a dangerous racist who has completely lost his grip on reality, and many of them might find it easier to admit their mistake in the privacy of a voting booth rather than being vocal about their change of heart.

  9. Jane's Wasted Talent says:

Heh heh. Aren’t flies a sign of the devil in Biblical mythology?

    • Betsy says:

I saw a snippet on Twitter that flies in medieval (I think that was the period) art were depicted over or near figures who were supposed to be corrupt or bad people.

  10. Becks1 says:

Yeah, I was watching the predebate coverage on MSNBC and Pete Buttigieg said that about Pence – that he’s good in debates because he lies so smoothly and calmly. It’s such a contrast to Trump who sputters and spews and you know he’s lying because he’s talking.

I wish Susan Page had held Pence’s feet to the fire a little more, especially about the administration’s COVID response.

I’m convinced Pence has tested positive and we’re going to hear it in a few days.

    • Belli says:

I wish she’d pressed him on the peaceful transfer of power. Him deliberately avoiding that one says it’s not just Trump’s mad ravings, it’s a bigger plan.

    • Tiffany says:

Susan Page is the one that is responsible for that ‘girls night’ with several members of Casino’s/Mother’s Husband administration.

The fact that the moderator council didn’t pull her from this debate tells you everything you need to know.

Page is getting dragged this morning and she deserves it.

  11. Frida_K says:

The way he speaks is simply foul. The condescending, slow, smarmy, breathy, turgid, vomitous flow of patronizing bullsh-t, my Goddess!

No wonder a fly came over and sat for a spell. The stench must have been mesmerizing.

From Twitter, the art history perspective on flies of this nature:

“Fly – symbol of rot, wasting away, decay, death, melancholia

A fly hovering over a church official or nobleman indicates disfavor with the king or corruption and dereliction of duty.”

    http://www.historyofpainters.com/insect.htm

  12. Feedmechips says:

My thoughts about Mother’s Husband’s performance are as follows:

    1. Dracula, is that you?
    2. This guy is a shameless liar.
    3. Why doesn’t he open his mouth when speaking?
    4. Opening his mouth when speaking would probably result in a deluge of other lies so this may be his brain’s way of self-regulating.

    • Bettyrose says:

He might be undead but Dracula he ain’t. I prefer my soulless demons suave and sexy.

      • Vonnegut3 says:

Preach @Bettyrose. Pence could could only dream of being in the same category of Dracula. Dracula has charisma, smarts, and appeal (for a blood sucking vampire). Pence has none of those characteristics.

  13. Mignionette says:

Hi body language and speech pathology is HORRIBLE.

He is literally doing the old white guy boss gas lighting routine. The one that says…. that crazy brown lady over there is hysterical, delusional and lying to you and I know what I am talking about.

He and Trump have obviously been well prepared to ride roughshod over their opponents. With Trump the strategy was talk over Biden. And with Pence the strategy was to get her emotional enough to play angry black woman. No wonder Kamala wasn’t having any of it, she knew. Problem is it means she can’t really get all the punches in….

    • Feedmechips says:

I think Harris likely recognized that she had to make a concerted effort to remain calm because anything less would result in all the cretins coming out of the woodwork to call her a harpy.

      • Coco says:

Key and Peele used to have sketches about Obama’s ‘anger translator.’ I’d like to see something like that with Harris.

    • Edna says:

Isn’t it disgusting that as a woman of color, you have to constantly be conscious of how you must speak/behave in order to avoid being labeled by stereotypes. Kamala knew how they wanted her to react so they could label her with the “angry black woman” trope just like they did Michelle Obama.

      • ChillyWilly says:

@Edna Yes! It’s infuriating! I think the campaign told her to not be agressive. Given free reign, she would have annihilated Pence. She still did a great job but I wish she was allowed to really lay into the bastard.

      • Miranda says:

If Biden and Kamala win, maybe she should look into getting an anger translator. Not Luther, though. It’d probably have to be a white guy. Is Lewis Black available?

      • whatWHAT? says:

my g-d…women of color CARRY THIS F*CKING COUNTRY, and I’m so sorry that it was so late in my life that I realized it.

    • Miranda says:

Kamala did an awesome job, getting her message across without losing her cool. But it pisses me off that she’s basically not allowed to get TOO passionate, even when an issue warrants a lot of anger (like, you know, 200.000+ Americans dying unnecessarily on Trump and Pence’s watch…). Compare this to Kavanaugh losing his shit during his Supreme Court hearings. Republicans thought it was just fine for a MAN to be hysterical, but if Kamala went off like that, she’d be the scary, unhinged Angry Black Lady who will probably start a slave rebellion or something.

    • Guest with Cat says:

She was absolutely amazing. Watching her patiently handle the sheer deluge of sludge from Pence made me realize I probably need anger management therapy and so does my family, because we were “incandescent with rage” until the fly came in and proved to be a saucy source of catharsis. Because my daughter, husband and I so badly wanted to reach through the TV and grab Typhoid Pence by the collar and try to shake some truth out of his lying hypocritical mouth.

But Kamala Harris remarkably kept her cool and her message. My daughter said she was struck by her class and dignity and thought Pence looked like trash even before the fly landed on him. She set the bar so high. It is hard to look at how she comported herself and resist hoping she is elected our first woman President someday.

    • Emily says:

It was so difficult to listen to him speak. It was incredibly patronizing not only to the women he shared the stage with but the viewers he was talking down to.

I thought this tweet summed up perfectly how Pence speaks:

      Dismhisper.

      1. (n) A soft, intentionally patronizing tone of voice.
      2. (v) Performative tone policing that attempts to create the implication that a more forceful response is unreasonable or aggressive.

“There’s no need to get emotional, he dismisphered”

  14. Rapunzel says:

This debate showed Pence is pretty “fly”… for a white guy. 😉

    • ChillyWilly says:

Teehee 😂 He will never live that fly down!

      • Sandy Eggo says:

Dump must be SO MAD about that fly and how it humiliated Mother’s husband. Live on national TV! You know that sort of thing enrages him the most. I’m sure the evil Q-Tip is getting all kinds of sh*t today.

  15. Miranda says:

When it comes to debating with assholes, female candidates always seem to kill it (though Sarah Palin is the exception to that rule). It was just like Hillary kicking Trump’s ass all over the stage 4 years ago. I think women are just so used to being disrespected and having their opinions dismissed arbitrarily, that Trump and Pence’s sexism and rudeness doesn’t faze them.

It sounded like PenceBot 2.0 needed a tune up, but damn, I’m proud of Kamala! I actually feel like my vote will be more for her than for Biden. Though let’s be real: winning a debate against Son of Mother is a cinch. This is a man who lost his damn mind over MULAN (the animated version, not the recent live action one that actually DID stir up some genuine controversy) and called it liberal propaganda for supporting the idea that women can join the military and do badass stuff.

  16. Case says:

I was living for Kamala quietly laughing every time Pence talked. She was awesome.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

THOSE LOOKS she gave him!! Gave me life!

      • Regina Falangie says:

YAS!!!! I was filled with JOY every time she gave him a “look could kill she would be an uzi!
She’s a shotgun, bang! What’s up with that thang?
I wanna know how does it hang?…” 😄

  17. Christin says:

He repeatedly kept talking despite the moderator calling time, and probably ended up with several minutes of additional speaking time as a result.

At least one post-debate commentator believes he was just setting himself up for a future campaign. He was not defending his boss as much as usual.

Let’s hope there is a landslide big enough that the spawn, Flybot and all the rest will have no chance of ever winning office.

  18. Lipreng says:

He’s disgusting. I had pink eye as a symptom of Covid as well..

    • Miranda says:

I also had pink eye with COVID, but I thought it was probably just from my stepsister playing with my make-up. I didn’t know it was related to the virus until just now, no one ever told me that it was a symptom. Is that something that was known early on, or did it take a few months to connect the dots?

      • schmootc says:

I remember hearing about it early-ish, but certainly not right away. Maybe around the time that sense of taste and smell started appearing.

  19. Also Ali says:

I went into the debate with a notion that fracking is bad for the environment and came away with…it’s not?

Susan Page whispering “Thank you Mr Vice President” over and over again as he talked over his time was SO frustrating.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

Fracking is bad for the environment. It is why Oklahoma now has an earthquake problem.

    • Kate says:

I went into the debate scared about covid and the administration’s lack of leadership and came away…afraid of swine flu?

Susan Page not simply saying “No!” when Pence would ask for time to respond when it wasn’t his turn had me yelling at the tv

    • Case says:

Fracking is bad. I think Biden/Harris are saying they will keep those jobs because they don’t want to alienate working class people who might have jobs involved with fracking. But point that needs to be continuously hammered into people’s minds is that clean energy can also produce a lot of jobs.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

Fracking is also on the wane – 1.) because states don’t want the side effects; and 2.) they’ve gotten as much oil as they can with it. I’m already seeing a subsidence in it and I’m from an oil state with a husband who works for the oil industry.

  20. Rapunzel says:

True story: The fly was better at sticking to the two minute rule than Mother’s husband.

  21. Louisa says:

I know KH was tested for covid and it was negative before the debate but I haven’t seen if Pence was. Does anyone know? Because he looked terrible. And then Mother came onto the stage without her mask at the end, against the rules. These people are so arrogant and irresponsible. Rules are just for the peasants I guess.

    • Miranda says:

The whole anti-mask thing has devolved into a dumbass death cult of petulant, contrarian overgrown toddlers. The selfishness of these people is just staggering and infuriating. I hope each and every one of them survives the virus, only to find that they’re left with lifelong after-effects.

  22. Merricat says:

It’s almost like the fly knew Pence is full of shit.

  23. Tiffany says:

The fact that he thinks he can make a play for 2024 tells you everything you need to know about him.

He has no support, he has no friends, he will never get big money to run a campaign, the GOP will try to look to rehab and he will not be the poster child for it.

He is as delusional as his wife.

    • Miranda says:

If I remember correctly, he was basically Trump’s last resort, after all the more sane Republicans turned him down. According to a friend from Indiana, his political career was finished there, so he took the job because he had nothing else going on.

      • Tiffany says:

And they were broke. Apparently the only money side gig he could get was being a spokesperson for cigarettes.

That says a lot about his that he can’t even get a cushy gig selling himself out. Even Rubio can find something.

  24. BRobertson says:

I absolutely CANNOT stand Mike Pence. He’s just the smarmiest, most smug and condescending person, and he just oozes it. Kamala handled him well.

  25. Valiantly Varnished says:

Pink eye is a symptom of Covid. He looked a dried out bleached corn husk.

  26. Sasha says:

Yup conjunctivitis is a symptom !

  27. Ann says:

I wasn’t really watching, only half way listening while cooking dinner, so I missed the fly. 2 whole minutes! That’s a long time for a fly and live TV. What a disgusting old fool. Spewing BS and attracting flies.

I saw Megyn Kelly had some opinions about Kamala’s faces during the debate. Of what I did see Pence was up there rolling his eyes and shaking his head. Such an infuriating double standard. Kamala and her faces rocked last night. Misogonistic twats like Megyn Kelly can choke on the brilliance (and the COVID…).

    • Case says:

Wow, she wants to talk about Kampala’s faces (which were great)??? What about Trump pulling faces constantly?

    • whatWHAT? says:

Kamala Harris is a fierce woman of color who has made it farther in life and status than Megyn “SANTA CLAUS IS WHITE!” Kelly will EVER go.

she’s jealous and mad that Harris doesn’t “know her place”.

  28. Faithmobile says:

Pence only took a rapid test the day of the debate, which is known to be not very sensitive and frequently produces both false positives and negatives. This administration leans heavily on this rapid test and temperature checks instead of masks and distancing, which explains the outbreak at the Whitehouse and pentagon.

  29. Lucy2 says:

It almost looks more like a burst blood vessel, but doing a debate with a bloody eye and a fly on his head is just the perfect picture of this administration, isn’t it?

I’m really glad to hear the response is overwhelmingly in her favor, I was worried more people were going to fall for his method of communicating, especially in contrast with screaming toddler Trump. He does lie so incredibly smoothly, it’s disturbing. There were many, many times I wish she could have responded to him more, but at least they actually talked about issues, somewhat.
Senator Harris handled herself very well, I’m sure they remembered she was screaming internally at his lies, but she knows how she must act. She is also incredibly expressive without saying a word, and some of the luxe she gave were perfection. I greatly appreciated her shutting him down by saying “I’m still speaking“, and repeating the line that she will not be lectured to by him. I have a feeling that resonated with a lot of women!

  30. InVain says:

His face is scary stiff. He’s obviously full of injectables and the tox. His face literally doesn’t move… just his droopy bottom lip when the lies start flowing. It’s terrifying to look at. He’s so disgusting.

  31. joanne says:

One of the pre debate pundits said that Mike Pence did his debate practice with Pam Bondi of the Florida bribes. They said Pence couldn’t even find a Black woman to role play a Black woman. They also said Pence was so while he’s almost clear. I think Kamala Harris was magnificent.

  32. Lady Luna says:

How do you not know you have a fly on your head? Wtf.

    • Tiffany says:

I personally think he got some Botox and could not feel it.

Casino is all about vanity and you can tell me Mother and Mother’s Husband was spared.

    • HoofRat says:

If your hair’s made of molded plastic, I suppose it would impact sensitivity to external stimuli.

  33. Coco says:

There were many things that made me angry, so I only watched intermittently, but nothing made me more furious than when Karen Pence walked onstage WITHOUT A MASK!

  34. Sean says:

Reading about that poll showing viewers favored Kamala is reassuring.

During the debate, my family was doing a group text. My siblings felt neither candidate actually answered any questions. My Trump supporting parents are still voting for Trump because the “devil they know is better than the devil they don’t”. They think Biden has been a lying politician for his 47 year career and Kamala is the most liberal Senator (socialism). My older sister detests both Biden and Trump and is sitting out the election. My younger sister is voting third party.

God, it’s so frustrating. I just hope enough people realize what’s at stake and vote blue next month.

    • Anna says:

Wow how unfortunate (and by “unfortunate” I mean infuriating)…I guess no one in this family is being affected in any major way by this evil regime. That’s the only way I can imagine that someone would continue to vote for this horror or to opt out of voting. Maybe that and/or to maintain that little thing called white supremacy. It’s just amazing to me that some people have the privilege to think it’s a choice when the fact is that if he’s re-elected, we’re all doomed. But I guess some of us would be more doomed than others

      • Sean says:

It is Anna, it is. My family is white and middle class borderline upper middle class. My siblings and I have well paying jobs. My parents made six figures for most of their adult lives but handled it poorly so they have a shaky retirement. None of us have been drastically affected by this administration’s policies the way PoC have. Well, Trump’s shenanigans have hurt my parents’ retirement accounts BUT THE DEMOCRATS. They acknowledge how bad Trump is but don’t care do long as they think they’re getting something out of it.

What’s especially infuriating is my younger sister is a nurse who’s witnessed first-hand the ineptitude of this administration regarding its handling of Covid-19.

Yet, she’d rather vote Libertarian as she doesn’t like Democrats or Republicans. She thinks she needs to do so because the more people who vote for a third option, the more people will look for alternatives to our two-party system. While I’m not 100% thrilled with the Democratic party, I realize it’s either going to be Biden or Trump, no one else. If the Republicans maintain power, they will slowly chip away at our rights. I wonder how my sister will feel if the day comes where she can’t obtain birth control without the consent of male member of our family?

      • Anna says:

So true @Sean though hard to believe she can experience what she has first-hand and still think splitting the vote is a good idea. I’m sorry you have to deal with that but at least you keep fighting and at least you are giving one vote toward sanity and hope… Handmaid’s Tale is not just a book, movie and tv series. And Gilead is a real company… But I guess as a Black woman, I really don’t expect much from white folks. I mean, look at the history of this country. Things are just operating the way they were meant to from the country’s inception. So anything better than that is a win…?

    • Traveler says:

This is actually sickening to hear.
I hope your parents (or anyone really at some point) will not need to rely on social security and medicare because their choice of party will rip it to shreds. I also have to assume they are privileged enough to not be affected by the rampant racism and misogyny that is on full display. How a woman can be fine with these men regulating their reproductive rights is mind blowing.
Good luck to us all. Let’s hope this self-centered, unempathetic mindset is in the minority.

I think he is terrifying. He is much more formidable than I realized. He is a true believer and has cold, evil eyes behind that smooth demeanor. Who knows what he is thinking.

They aren’t worried because they think it is end times and that they will be raptured.

And remember how bloodshot Trump’s eyes were at that debate last week? And his eyes looked the same at that town hall meeting a week before with George S. They all have been passing Covid around for at least a couple of weeks now.

If there were a rapture, I know I’d be much happier standing on the ground, waving bye-bye to Pink Eye Fly Guy. There are worse things than being Left Behind!

When Kamala spoke directly to us I nearly cried to see a leader finally acknowledge what we the people have been put through. My beautiful teenaged daughter now has heart arrhythmias and digestive problems she didn’t have before we got sick with a “mystery ailment” for which there was no testing available to ever confirm what it was. But we know. We’ve got a lot of doctors visits ahead of us. We are blessed to have good insurance. But how about the people who don’t?

We know Trump doesn’t care. And while I don’t trust politicians as far as I can throw them, I believe Kamala Harris was sincere in her empathy and representing her and Joe’s resolve to do better by all of us.

My daughter had had enough of Pence and began yelling at the TV and then the fly landed on him. What a great moment. It was so hard to pay attention to his nonsense after that.

I also told my husband, who has that annoying tendency to interrupt and talk over me, women are sick and tired of men doing this to them. “Now you see what it looks like. Now you understand why I keep pulling you aside when you do this to me. Do you finally see how bad it looks? Do you get it now?” He got it.

It’s 2020 and this sort of behavior won’t be tolerated anymore. It’s not alpha, it’s asshole. (And any women who habitually interrupt and talk over other people need to stop it, too. But I honestly can’t remember seeing a woman make a habit of this. )

I am impressed to realize for all of his other faults, my father never did this sort of thing. I think that’s why I found it so jarring to go out into the world and find that despite all the old jokes about chatty females, we really don’t get to finish a sentence in mixed company. Even women authority figures like teachers have favored letting boys finish talking and disrupting classes but come down hard on girls for talking or just let male students interrupt them without consequences.

I really feel the moderator came down much harder on Harris than she did to Pence. It was frustrating. Pence the Pivoter.

I do think Kamala missed the chance to nail Pence on failing to answer the question about pre existing conditions. But at least she did repeat the point that Trump’s administration is trying to get rid of that coverage.

She’s beautifully fantastically adult! Oh my goodness it was so wonderful to see a competent mature adult leader address the American people again. We’ve been subjected to the rantings of a petulant toddler for too long! Nothing against Joe Biden, he did try last week, but it was hard for him to get a word in edgewise.

I’m sorry your daughter is continuing to suffer with symptoms and sorry that your family has to go through it when there is currently such uncertainty about the long term effects of the novel coronavirus. I hope that you can continue to find her good treatment and she will improve. I hope that scientists around the world make progress on treatments and a vaccine.

I’m so sorry to hear all you have been going through.
Your post really spoke to me on many levels, especially the men interrupting thing. It’s so frustrating and happens ALL.THE.TIME.
I only know one woman who does that, and she just blathers on and on and we talk over her now.

      • Guest with Cat says:

        Thank you.

Oh yes it happens all the time. My husband is a truly good man and I think the reason he cuts me off so much is he has a very loud rambunctious brother and sister, and I notice they have a tendency to talk at each other rather than to each other. Family gatherings with them are very wearing. They are so damned loud when they get together.

My husband is very progressive with advocacy for women in his company. One of his own mentors was a black woman and he makes every effort to honor her memory. Fortunately I don’t think he interrupts his coworkers and employees. I’ve been listening to his Zoom meetings for months now and the conversations seem equitable.

But he is lazy at home so I do need to stand up for myself. It sets a bad example for our daughter. Intellectually she knows what the healthier dynamic should be. But of course we all know she won’t internalize it if she doesn’t see it in action. So at least she’s been seeing me pull my husband aside for “a word” for years. And now that she’s older she’s also been stopping to point out when he interrupts and talks over me.

He is improving but he’s got a way to go, yet. I think it really will help that he got to see the behavior played out in front of him. It’s not a good look. No intelligent progressive empathetic person wants to be like Pence.

I’m just so excited to finally have a clear cut almost textbook example of the behavior I want him to correct. It’s kind of sad that is all the VP of the USA had to offer our family.

I believe that my son and I both had it in January. He was diagnosed with ‘pneumonia caused by unknown respiratory virus’ and his pediatrician almost hospitalized him. We had almost ALL the symptom of covid. I have major digestive issues to this day. I had vivid hallucinations when I was really sick, and I still have wild, vivid dreams almost every night. I also have periodic heart palpitations which I never had before. So we will also probably need ongoing medical care from this. My heart goes out to you and your daughter. This disease is NO JOKE people. It will also be considered a pre-existing condition so we may lose our health insurance if the Republicans have their way. Vote them all out!!!!

      • Guest with Cat says:

Oh I’m so sorry to hear you and your son are going through this, too. I was already prone to myocarditis and have suffered it with previous colds and flus. It usually only bothers me for a couple of days. Very alarming nerve-wracking days. This time I had symptoms for over a month. I had such awful digestive symptoms I initially thought I had stomach cancer. But then everything came to a head rather fast and I figured out it had to be Covid-19 but at the time there were no tests at all. We didn’t have severe respiratory symptoms so that was an extra strike against us in terms of getting a test. Thankfully, my husband said he felt only very mildly ill.

I hope you and yours and me and mine hang onto our health coverage and eventually fully kick these persistent issues.

Welp, flies are attracted to sh*t.
I saw his eye and thought omfg! He’s got the “28 Days Later” infection! Rage! Omg hes a zombie! Covid-19 starts the zombie apocalypse! Lol then a fly lands on him! God has got some jokes!

  38. Jayna says:

Kamala Harris did a fantastic job. I felt she should have hammered Pence on the Trump House pandemic and superspreading. But she showed the world she is day one ready to be POTUS.

Pence does what he does, never answers a question, but weaves and bobs and evades, instead always vomiting one of his canned responses in that smooth Stepford Husband way. He’s like a robot.

What was so disconcerting for me, and what isn’t mentioned enough, is that he doesn’t have one genuine emotion or expression on his face. It is like he is a bad Soap Opera actor who has practiced in front of the mirror with his emoting and facial expressions while delivering his prepared lines (which I’m sure he did and has done for years). P-H-O-N-E-Y. It was creepy. He is creepy.

Kamala showed real passion, real emotion, had a commanding presence, and unruffled, and delivered real facts, answered most of the questions directly compared to him. She didn’t answer the stacking question, but there is no upside to doing it. Pence pivoted from every question, rarely answering the question at hand. .

I was furious with the moderator. FURIOUS. She should have cut him off by talking over him, not with the twentieth “Thank You,” but instead by ignoring him and talking to Ms. Harris.

His continued and deliberate talking over his time and over Kamala made me despise him even more. His mansplaining, condescending attitude, et cetera, sure didn’t help with female voters, except the Trumper Women.

Some of the analysts calling this more civilized and almost boring have lost their objectivity. I was rivited to the television. My niece was texting me non-stop. My friends were also rivited to the television. They have no clue. Pence is more sinister than Trump in ways. This is the first black female VP nominee in history, who has an incredible resume. Pence is a winner to the Republican base because he did what he had to do, but he fell short. Trump is behind in the polls. He needed a knockout punch. Didn’t happen. But his condescending behavior towards Kamala did even more to mobilize women to get out there and vote.

I’m feelin’ good, guys. I’ve been all over the place in August, feeling Trump could win. I’m back to feeling strong. Now it’s up to us, the voters, to bring them home to the White House.

Kamala looked fabulous last night. She was positively glowing. She looked like the picture of health compared to the Covid pink eye infected robot.

I don’t think that’s pinkeye. Covid eye is a real thing. One of my closest childhood friends is still recovering from Covid and he said his red eyes were a dead giveaway to other people.

Mike Pence is probably infected AF.

Kamala is remarkable. She is the sweetest person on earth but oh man, you do not want to mess with her. I thought she did a great job in the debate and will be a wonderful Vice President. Can not wait! Biden & Harris 2020 all the way!
