Countess Sophie is isolating after being exposed to a corona-positive person

You know how I’ve been bitterly complaining about the Windsors not wearing masks enough? It’s a thing – they’re somewhat selective with when and where they’re wearing masks, and by “selective” I mean their mask-wearing doesn’t make much sense. You could argue that for outdoor activities, maybe mask-wearing isn’t AS important. But the point I’ve been making is that as royals, they’re public figures with public roles, and they should simply be role modeling good mask-wearing and social-distancing behavior. None of them have been, but I thought the Countess of Wessex was probably the best one of the lot – she wore masks more than anyone else, and she wore a mask when she visited the National Space Center on October 7. She was still exposed to the virus.

The Countess of Wessex is self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus. Sophie, 55, came into contact with the person earlier this week – who was later diagnosed with the bug. It is understood Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home.

The Sun understands she has not come into contact with any members of the Royal Family, apart from her own direct family, this week. The most recent public engagement for the mum-of-two was when she visited the National Space Centre to mark World Space Week two days ago, on October 7. The royal, who wore a face mask, was joined by astronaut Helen Sharman – the first Briton to go into space – at the Centre.

On October 4, she ran the first 1.5 miles of their Virtual London Marathon along the Long Walk, Windsor Great Park. Just a few days before that, she fed alpacas with husband Prince Edward.

So she was exposed at the Space Center, while wearing a mask, and she’s isolating out of an abundance of caution. But she was maskless for her recent outdoor activities, like the Windsor Great Park run, etc. I don’t know. But this is why you wear masks! Sophie’s not in as much danger because she did wear a mask to the indoor event. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to the other Windsors.

Maybe now this family will start wearing masks and social distancing as standard. This virus does not discriminate.

On a positive note she can isolate in a whole wing of that mansion.

    • HeatherC says:

Doubtful. Charles actually HAD COVID19 and it changed nothing. Sadly and chillingly for attitudes to change, someone they actually know will have to die from COVID19 ( we see the same thing here in the states sadly)

    • Amy Bee says:

Yeah, doubt it. It seems the press is not keen on the Royals wearing masks. One of the royal rota said on twitter that the masks prevents them from hearing conversations properly and I don’t think pictures of royals wearing masks earn much revenue. I think it is a matter of the Royals complying with the press’ demand and not about following Government guidelines.

  2. Sydney says:

Shouldn’t the wake up call been when Charles actually had the virus? Since not much happened to him they probably disregard the disease as a flu or bad cold.

  3. heygingersnaps says:

    Colour me shock! Not.

  4. Sunday says:

Wearing a mask is important, but wearing a mask that ACTUALLY FITS YOUR FACE is sort of a crucial detail. The fit of her mask in those pics is pathetically bad – huge gaps at the top and sides render any protection middling at best.

  5. HoofRat says:

Like all the Windsors, Edward was so strikingly beautiful as a child – I feel like he peaked at 15. He needs to grow a beard, STAT, then put a mask over it).

    • Mumbles says:

I could see a beard working for him. (No joke intended about Sophie, lol). His kids are nice-looking.

  6. Sofia says:

If Charles catching the virus wasn’t a wakeup call, I doubt this will be one

  7. Phyllis says:

Little viscount Severn looks like a grumpy little viscount.

    • Chris says:

He always looks like that/ Even on the group picture with the Queen, surrounded by all her great grandkids, he had that face. There is something off with that boy.

  8. Peanut says:

    “The bug”???

    FFS…

  9. Florence says:

Oh my god, isn’t it especially dangerous if Louise gets it as she is presumably classed as vulnerable?

    • Tourmaline says:

Louise had an eye condition due to prematurity but seems in fine health now. And this says Sophie was exposed to the virus and is quarantining – that does not mean that she HAS it.

  10. Petra X says:

I’ve actually met Edward and he seems a very nice person, engaged and you know, not like that other one!

  11. Tourmaline says:

If you are a close contact of a COVID case, even if you were wearing a mask and even if the case was wearing a mask also during the contact, you still need to quarantine.

The hope is due to the masking (especially if you and the case BOTH wore them) that it is less likely you caught the virus from the exposure. And hopefully you will pass your quarantine period uneventfully.

Masks, especially non medical grade, are not 100 percent and thus the need to quarantine regardless of mask use. And of course the need for combining masks with physical distancing and avoiding indoor/poorly ventilated settings to the extent possible.

Sorry to be pedantic but I’ve seen other posts here (maybe it was one on the Spanish royals) with the ‘they wore masks but were still exposed’. I do appreciate that the post here points out it is less likely Sophie will end up infected from this exposure due to mask use!
