Duchess Kate wears a smart black blazer for a stop at the Natural History Museum

The Duchess of Cambridge spoke on camera! It only happens once every six months or so, and she always brings so much nervous energy to any kind of prepared speech, no matter how big or small. She’s just not comfortable speaking on camera, I get that. I’ll say this: she’s gotten better? It’s taken a decade, but she has gotten better at it. Kate spoke on camera to promote her appearance tomorrow night at the Natural History Museum, where she’ll announce the winner of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year at a virtual ceremony. So… wait… it’s a virtual ceremony but Kate will appear in person? And she made this video at the newly reopened museum.

Kate apparently wore black trousers, a black shirt and a tuxedo-looking black blazer. I find the blazer too dressed up for a daytime appearance for what was likely just a private tour of a new exhibition. The lapels are too shiny! But she looks fine, in general. The sausage curls are slowly creeping back, right? And it goes without saying that She Who Shall Not Be Named loved a simple black suit and even a tuxedo pantsuit.

It’s still so weird to me that museums are reopening and that some stuff is going back to “normal” in various parts of the world. Whew. I feel like people are asking for trouble. I plan to be holed up for months longer.

Um, cases are exploding in the UK (like 0-60 in two weeks level) and aren’t they talking about doing another lockdown? Maybe not the best time to be going to museums for pictures of lions or whatever.

    • Nic919 says:

The lockdowns are stricter in the northern towns for now but they expect the entire country in a few weeks.

Wearing a mask and modelling safe behaviour indoors might have been smart, but they don’t seem to understand that.

    • Delphi says:

Museums have reopened but only with measures like social distancing, pre-booked entry, limited numbers, timed visits, sneeze guards and mandated mask-wearing! Most of the time you have to book a slot in advance and they will only let in a small number of people. They are definitely not crowded. Going to a museum is safer than going to my local Tesco’s, where they’ve abandoned all attempts at controlling numbers. (I know you *have* to buy food and you don’t have to go to a museum lol but people are bored, need to entertain kids etc)

      • Babsorig says:

Number control and social distancing is harder in grocery stores; actually almost next to impossible, even here in the GTA Canada. You go to any grocery stores and there are tons of people shopping/buying food, what can you do if you have to eat? However, masks are MANDATORY; one is NOT allowed entry unless their faces (meaning nose and mouth) are completely covered. Study after study after study have proven that simple mask wearing and hand washing lower the infection numbers significantly, up to 90% or more. People just need to wear masks EVERYWHERE, stop making wearing (or not) masks a political statement, Kate Middleton, William PWT included.

      • Delphi says:

        Hi Babsorig,

Was this in response to me? My comment was just about the circumstances of museums reopening, not about whether people shouldn’t be wearing masks or washing their hands. You seem to have read a lot into what I said. In the UK, grocery stores were controlling numbers earlier in the pandemic, and you would have to queue outside until people had left. That is no longer happening. In case it actually needs to be said, I agree people should be wearing masks. It’s terrible that most of the royals generally haven’t bothered as I think they would probably sway a lot of people.

      • Nic919 says:

The UK has been backwards on the mask issue. We had grocery stores making masks mandatory on their own across ontario even before the various municipal regions made them mandatory. And we have a conservative premier who frankly I disagree with in pretty much all policies. But he hasn’t been as dumb on the mask issue as the UK and parts of the US. I haven’t stepped in any store without a mask since late March.

  2. Maevo says:

Why the weird pauses?? Someone must be desperately flipping cue cards off screen, but seriously she couldn’t make that sound a little bit more natural?!

    • Snuffles says:

She’s clearly reading a teleprompter. It’s a nice outfit but Meghan basically wore the exact same thing last year and got ripped to shreds for wearing a pants suit. Kate gets praised for it.

But, hey! It looks like Kate’s fillers have finally settled!

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

That’s what looked off about her! Fillers! Yup. Things got smoothed out and lifted. They also have a filter going to smooth out her appearance, but it smoothed out the background too.

Megan would be torn down for this.

      • kelleybelle says:

She actually is reading from a teleprompter. I saw another photo, taken from the side, where you can clearly see the prompter in front of her. Oh dear. She can’t learn that short little ditty by heart? That being said, I like what she’s wearing. The sister-wife dresses for months on end, just no.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Kelleybelle
I’ll give Kate a pass on reading off a teleprompter. It’s standard. Even Megan had 1 at her speech for… invictus? She wore awful Buckle shoes and was pregnant.
However, the pauses and the way she reads it does suggest she didn’t plan this one ahead. She never does.

Side note those fillers really took her jowels away. Tightened her jawline and face. Looks great, but you know she used tax funds for this. I would love to know what her cosmetic upkeep costs.

      • Nic919 says:

The stuff she had to read off the teleprompter is pretty basic though. Does she need to wear glasses or contacts? None of the short sentences required a reading level beyond elementary school. This is the best they could do after several takes. Really quite pathetic.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

The “bouncing” and weird word emphasis was annoying as hell. Their is no “natural” cadence to her speaking voice. If she can’t/won’t memorise it, then she needs to practice it more than once or twice before taping.

And she sure as shit is trying to *be* “someone”…. 🧐🤨🤫

    • Lemons says:

Re @Snuffles, I think she’s reading from a teleprompter or has cue cards, but since she doesn’t normally do this, she doesn’t know how to read naturally. What’s funny is that as I say that, I realize that she doesn’t usually do anything work-related. And those around her probably are tired of trying to put the effort in to hide it.

    • lucy2 says:

      I noticed that too.

I like her outfit though. That museum is one of the most spectacular old buildings too.

    • Nic919 says:

Considering this was pre taped with an opportunity to do several takes until it was done right, this remains remarkably bad. It’s like English isn’t her first language with the awkwardness of her cadence. She desperately needs to use her original accent because she still cannot speak properly with this affected posh nonsense.

  3. Jen says:

She looks great. I’m glad she’s revamping her style, no matter what her inspiration was.

    • escondista says:

*whispers* I think we know who the inspiration was for simplified clothes and jewelry.

    • L4frimaire says:

That black pantsuit looks awfully familiar, right down the the shiny lapels and square neckline of the shirt underneath. It’s really weird and kind of blatant/passive aggressive. She has no consistent style and the way she dresses conveys more of trying on different roles instead of conveying who she actually is. Meanwhile, some museums here in my city are getting ready to open back up but not sure how they’ll manage the crowds yet and safety protocols.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

The duplicating duchess strikes again. Reminds me of a scene in Dreamgirls where the svengali told the lead singer he chose her because she had no personality and will only project what he tells her to. Kate is like that. Nearly 40, can’t even speak properly despite a very expensive education and all she does is copy. It will be funny if it wasn’t so pathetically sad. First they hate you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you and try to destroy you and then you win. Meghan will ALWAYS keep winning.

      • 809Matriarch says:

Just thinking about Crown Princess Mary who had to learn to be fluent in Danish AND give speeches. Thank God English IS the copy Kate’s native tongue. She would be dreadful in a foreign country. I remember Diana addressed the Welsh people with a phrase in their native tongue and they were so charmed. Meghan speaks wonderfully in Spanish and okay in French, which she used in Morocco. Kate is embarrassing.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Limpets and Barnacles are gonna glom onto something/one and stick. Guess who wants to be the NEW Meghan, now that she’s helped run the OG outta town? Someone is feeling her Cheerios!

      • mytwocents says:

When Meghan wore this exact outfit the papers, Daily Mail included, went crazy with how she wasn’t following protocol. Today the DM called the outfit on Kate ‘chic’ and how she ‘oozed glamour’. Really disgusting hypocrisy! on Omid Scobie’s Twitter she does get called out for it though. But on their own Kensington Royal feed the fawning is unbearable…

  4. Cait says:

**It’s still so weird to me that museums are reopening and that some stuff is going back to “normal” in various parts of the world. **

Haaaaaa. The (state-run) museum I work for in Texas reopened on May 1st, by order of the governor. Staff was not thrilled. We weren’t even allowed to require people wear masks until July.

    • L4frimaire says:

I really don’t understand why so many governors like Abbot, Kemp and DeSantis have this ignorant hostility to masks. If I went to those same spaces without shoes, they wouldn’t let me in and no one would take my side, but having to wear a mask is a “ liberty” issue. Anyway, hope the staff at these places stay safe and the guests respect them enough to wear masks and keep a distance.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Same ones who cry “MAH FREEDUUUUMS!!!” and “MAH LIBURTIEEEEEEES OVER MAH BODYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!” are the ones who want to take WOMEN’S autonomy about their health/reproductive rights, and do not see *one ounce* of hypocrisy or dissonance about this stance. SMDH.

      • minx says:

Trump set the tone. If he had worn a mask from the get go his sycophants would have masked up.

      • lucy2 says:

I compare the masks to pants and shoes a lot too!

Also, I think a lot of those terrible governors reopened so they didn’t have to fork out unemployment money.

      • Sparky says:

Or if you drove to the event sans seat belt…

      • MerlinsMom1018 says:

Abbott doesn’t have an original thought in his pea size brain. He’s so afraid of the far right and big money that he’s afraid if he ACTS like a governor and uses common sense, he won’t be re-elected.

  5. Oddsnends says:

Deaths are going down (for a number of reasons) and even the WHO recently advised against lockdowns. I’m happy that places are opening up, but I’ll keep social distancing and wearing masks.

    • sara says:

Were in the beginning of the fall surge. Cases across Europe are exploding https://twitter.com/DKThomp/status/1315639609058000898

      • Oddsnends says:

But deaths as a percentage of cases is dropping. It’s not the end of the pandemic but, to misquote Churchill, perhaps the end of the beginning. We need to address the consequences of the lockdown now. Suicides, drug abuse, domestic violence — especially against children — and increased rates of desperate poverty in non-first-world nation’s are also important issues that have been exacerbated by lockdowns.

      • Oddsnends says:

Thanks for the link. I read that article and it touches on some of the points I made.

Given the interconnectedness of our global society the next pandemic is probably only a decade away. We can learn a lot from the successes and failures around the world if only we’re willing to put our egos aside.

      • Nic919 says:

Deaths always lag behind. Look to the numbers in 30 days from now and there you will see deaths creeping up. Improved treatment may keep the number lower, but high risk groups, especially the elderly won’t benefit very much from it.

    • minx says:

      And get your flu shot!

  6. Emm says:

You honestly think she’s gotten better? Idk, it just seems so forced and sooooo unnatural and like she was carefully coached on everything, from the pauses to the gestures and it’s still so stiff. Her in person conversations may be engaging but her on camera ones are anything but. At this point I don’t think she will ever get that much better, there is no charisma or anything that makes an interesting speaker. She also looks really tan.

    • tee says:

her mouth area is so tense. like it hurts to say every word, but she has to smile through it.

      • Itsme says:

I really think she just doesn’t have the confidence. She’s clearly worried about making a mistake and being shit on by her over confident, “well spoken” prick of a husband. She’ll never be an or orator without lessons and a husband who is there with a “well done”. She may have half of that required but certainly not the other, as that would require a person of empathy, love and compassion. All of which the d@ckhead lacks.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yeah, she sounds too rehearsed and stilted. Looks uncomfortable and tense while speaking too, and this is a simple video announcement.

      • Chrissy says:

I agree. She’s so underwhelming in every way. Even 19-year-old Diana realized that she needed to work on her public speaking and sought out help as it was expected as part of the job. This one is a lost cause. Why is no one around her advising her to get help? She’s been in this family for almost 10 years so there is no excuse especially since she seems to do not much else. She such an embarrassment!

      • Nic919 says:

39 year old Kate remains really bad at her job.

      • mytwocents says:

I also agree, she’s had 10 years to improve and she hasn’t. Have you seen the look on Will’s face next to her while she speaks publicly? His embarrassment is uncomfortable to watch! cringe!

    • Sid says:

Yeah, she came off very stilted in this video and as Nic commented earlier they probably did multiple takes in order to have options for choosing the best one. And if this is the best one…yikes. After 9 years of being in the BRF as a working member this is sad, especially as Sophie and Camilla are just fine on-camera. Diana did what she needed to do in order to become good at this. So why can’t Kate?

      • trashaddict says:

Honestly they should give her a valium or a good stiff drink before rolling, she’d prob do fine.

      • Itsme says:

Trashaddict I’m completely with you. My advice? Smoke some good kush and bring a friend that you have fun with and has your back.

    • FicklePickle says:

Well, yes, it is horrible, but from what I remember it is actually better than what she started out at.

  7. bonobochick says:

    Single White Femaling…

    • ABritGuest says:

Yep. And Meghan ‘broke protocol’/ ‘royal tradition’ by wearing an all black pantsuit at the WellChild awards (where she was pregnant but hadn’t been announced yet-I remember the complaints about a dark instead of princessy look to meet children). But I’m sure Kate will just be praised by the royalists and tabloid press for looking glam in an identical look (she does look great and I’m here for the more sleek modern looks). It’s the double standards that grate. And if Meghan was royal-ing so badly as so many claimed before she left why are so many of them copying her.

Covid cases are going up in the U.K. and some areas in the north are being subjected to stricter protocols but they are trying to avoid that in London as far as I can tell.

      • Becks1 says:

It’s so obvious at this point that it’s disturbing. Like she has switched from cosplaying Diana to cosplaying Meghan. Besides, I thought all black was against royal protocol? And a pantsuit to boot?!?!

        *clutches pearls*

      • Phryda says:

The double standards is what infuriates me! They basically made up non existent protocols for Meghan only! The BM is absolute trash

      • Kalana says:

There’s some thought that Kate is basically trolling and playing to her racist base. The point is to rub it in and take focus off of how bad she is at speaking. The Rota will be thrilled.

There’s definitely some validity to this. I remember when Kate gave her first speech way back when, she wore the same blue dress as her mother, and she already cried her white woman tears when she couldn’t take over Meghan’s wedding. Kate doesn’t play nicely with others.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

To the max! It’s beyond sad at this point.

    • S808 says:

She’s gonna morph into Meghan without the work ethic, charisma and spirit just like she did with Diana. It’s why the courtiers and press love her so much. She has no personality and no interests and can take whatever shape they need her to. Before it was Diana, now it’s Meghan. We’re seeing her change shape in real time.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

I swear for a while Kate morphed into Rose before we knew about Rose. The country life mom that designs gardens and loves art installations. The Tatler article originally stated Kate knew William was being entertained by Rose. And Kate appears to take on images and personalities. JMO.

    • Myra says:

This is yet again another confirmation that the other Duchess (the blueprint) did not break any royal protocol.

  8. Emily says:

Museums have been reopened in NYC starting in late August. The Met was one of the first to reopen and basically all museums waited to see how that would pan out before reopening themselves. The museum my sister works for reopened mid-September. Since pretty much all museums are using reserved tickets for time slots online, I actually think visiting museums is much safer than going to a restaurant. As long as everyone is wearing masks and the crowds are being controlled, I think it can be done pretty safely. Coat checks are closed too.

As for Kate’s outfit, it is obvious she has been turning to Meghan for style inspiration lately. It’s no coincidence she only wore dresses/skirts with the occasional skinny jeans for casual outings until Meghan appeared on the scene. I actually like the all black outfit for the video announcement. It’s chic and very French looking.

  9. S808 says:

Well, at least the Diana cosplay can finally Rest In Peace.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Isn’t it sad that no one is talking about the competition but the focus is on her appearance as always? A so called educated woman letting her expensive education go to waste. Beyond announcing that she will be announcing the winner what is her contribution to the whole project? Will there be any benefit to charity? Will enough people even care? Will there be any impact? Or is it just to be wheeled out and show us another cosplay outfit? So many questions…..

  10. cc says:

That is not her style, that is Meghan’s style she’s appropriating. Unfortunately everyone sees that.

  11. ShazBot says:

Maybe this is mean, but I feel like she’s at the tipping point for cosmetic procedures and should tread carefully going forward. Her work used to be subtle and good, but it’s starting to look tight and unnatural.

    • Nic919 says:

I think that point was passed a while back. It’s very Melania esque and Melania is 50.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Nah I see it too. Her face is entering uncanny valley territory and it’s going to be harder to go back and look normal.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I DID think she looks pretty “tight”…glad I’m not the only one lol. Thought it was my dislike coming through 😜

    • Merricat says:

Yes, she’s starting to look like one of the “Real Housewives” of whatever.

    • Becks1 says:

Yup, she has to be very careful with her face work going forward. It’s so easy to cross over the line from maintenance to looking like a…..I don’t even know. A caricature of yourself I think.

To keep it royal, Sophie, with all her flaws, gets pretty good work done (I’m assuming she gets work done at any rate lol). She’s not trying to look like she’s 20 but she’s keeping some of the wrinkles at bay.

      • Nic919 says:

I agree that if Sophie is doing anything it isn’t obvious. Kate is already too far gone IMO. That’s why she hides for weeks because it needs to settle. She’s not even 40 and doing all this and it won’t get better from here. But when you base your life on looks and no substance, the inevitable process of aging is going to be a bitch and a losing battle.

      • ArtHistorian says:

It is like Queen Silvia of Sweden. I know she is much much older but she has crossed the line and her face is starting to look “done” in an unfortunate way. This is such a shame because she has always been a very beautiful woman.

    • GuestWho says:

Her face is looking very Kris Jenner-esq. That’s a whole lot of fillers in her cheeks.

    • Kalana says:

The fillers in her cheeks look hard and unnatural, almost like she has cheek implants.

  12. tee says:

she looks really good, but the clothes stalking is SO weird.

    • trashaddict says:

It won’t work, because she is not comfortable in herself and her body. Part of Meghan’s charm is that she seems so at ease with others. Probaby because she is more focused outside of hereself.

  13. Nic919 says:

That’s the best version with numerous takes so really not a good sign. I guess wearing all black and a blazer is acceptable and chic now. Amazing how that happens.

Also the hair is bad. Too much, extensions too obvious and the colour doesn’t work for her. Darker is better and it’s not like she doesn’t have time to stay on top of keeping the roots covered.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Having watched it – its bad. It was bad enough with the pauses in odd places, but it was the forced enthusiasm that got me. At one point she jerked toward that camera that I thought she was going to throw the wiglet at it. She did NOT want to be there giving that little and easy speech, her body language said that loud and clear.

She’s clearly being pushed to do more and is not happy about it.

      • Nic919 says:

She is also announcing that she will be announcing the winner. Was this even necessary outside of an excuse to add an engagement number? Just show up on the day of and announce the winner.

      • erni says:

Nic919, Meghan was speaking with Malala.
        News cycle

      • Elle says:

maybe she got trotted out to do this since the queen had to take over the intro for the photo competition?

        like, all good here folks!

  14. Belli says:

Her face looks really different, right? It’s not just me?

The outfit is smart and I like it. She’s taking style inspiration from her sister in law apparently.

  15. Beach Dreams says:

She really is shameless. Couldn’t believe it when I saw a side by side comparison with Meghan on Twitter.

  16. Veronica S. says:

The shoulders are a little 80s but in a way that feels retro chic instead of outdated. I like it overall, though I am, guiltily enough, distracted by her face. I have a feeling she’s going to be one of those women so unsettled by aging that she winds up doing more damage than good. Tragic, considering her husband lost his looks far faster than she and doesn’t seem troubled by it. So telling.

  17. Sybaritic1 says:

Wait, so I guess royals ARE actually allowed to wear black???!?
Wow so chic, not “too Hollywood” like when MM wore black…
    /s

  18. Lexistential says:

Single White Female-ing Meghan. We all know who wore a skinny black pantsuit and delicate jewels first. Will she be cosplaying Meghan for the rest of her natural life?

And whoa. Her face looks TIGHTENED and severely unmoving across her brow. She is approaching Melania territory.

As for her speaking- she was not the disastrous terrible speaker from before, but very improved for her. I don’t know if she was told to rehearse or got coached through it, but it made a difference. Still stiff tho.

    • Lady D says:

She will cosplay Meghan until George gets engaged. Then she will cosplay her. Or, should her sister gain fame in the next few years, it will be Pippa she emulates.

  19. Amy Bee says:

There’s no denying it anymore, Kate’s cosplaying Meghan. Plain and simple. I see the Kate Stans and royalists are raving about her outfit. Around this time two years ago, Meghan wore a similar outfit and she was described as unroyal, breaking protocol for wearing an all black suit, too Hollywood and not regal. I’ll say it again, the real reason for the royalists’, stans’ and press’ criticism of Meghan’s outfits was because she outshined Kate and made her look drab and outdated.

Has Kate got better reading from text? She had no choice but to improve when Meghan was making speeches without notes. But it’s still not good, the weird pauses and nervousness are still apparent.

    • sunny says:

She looks good but it is hilarious she will be praised for this look after Meghan was trashed for it. She reminds me of Amber in Clueless- particularly when Cher accuses Amber of, “Shopping in my closet again? Do you prefer fashion victim or ensemble challenged?”

    • Kalana says:

They have to praise Kate. Can’t let the gaslighting stop, right?

    • trashaddict says:

A plain black pantsuit and she’s stiff as a board, what the fuss? I’m not all negative about her though. I actually do like her hairstyle and color.

  20. cc says:

At this point i have to ask who really is Kate? Does she care that they are trying to turn her into Meghan? Does she know who she is?

    • JanetDR says:

It doesn’t seem that she does.

    • Mignionette says:

Kate is your classic codependent who lacks any sense of self. The Courtiers must have whooped with delight when Bill finally settled on her. Granted she is lazy as f*ck, but on the flip-side she is so malleable she’ll oblige Bill anything and everything. Including shagging his mates as a gateway into his inner sanctum.

Contrary to what the Cambitches want to believe, this will not end well. We have already seen glimpses of Kitty’s insecurity around Rose and the Aristo set. Bill better not cheat again, because I am not so sure that Kate is as ‘okay with it’ as people have believed in the past. Her behavior screams ‘unstable’. And yes cos-playing your SIL whom you helped to ostracize and drive out of a new home country is INCREDIBLY unstable. Bill and the Courtiers have created a monster during the embiggening/ triangulation phase.

Kate has stupidly come to believe that being complicit in Meg’s abuse has afforded her more power than she really has. That is a dangerous amount of hubris as we saw earlier in the year with the Tatler article. BTW I now believe that the Tatler article was set up by Bill and the Courtiers to bring her back down a peg or two.

I now understand why Bill chose Kate. He saw how his parents marriage worked out and realised he needed to choose someone who could never manipulate him emotionally. In that regard he has taken on a lot of Chuck’s Machiavellian traits. Problem is eventually someone breaks the contract of that marriage. I am guessing that Bill cheated quite a bit before but the Rose trimming pissed Kate off bc it was (1) on their doorstep (2) became known amongst the Aristo’s and (3) made Kate realise she would never be one of them. All themes that were back-handedly alluded to in the Tatler piece.

      • Tessa says:

Kate does manipulate William emotionally, she’s done it for years. The big event was when she rushed out to clubs, in short dresses and seen with other men to show William what he was missing. She had this photo call like clockwork once a week and tipped off the paparazzi. She is also passive aggressive at times. She may want a 4th child so publicly said William did not want anymore children. Early on when she was not dating William she was very slick, she rushed across the room when another woman came on to him and pretended to be his girlfriend. He thanked her for ‘helping her’ but she was really helping her cause of getting the ring. I think she’s rather slick and I think William will continue to cheat.

      • Nic919 says:

For a while I thought there would be a fourth child following the rose affair since Louis happened due to the ski dad trip. But it’s been almost two years and it’s unlikely to happen at this point. So at this point even an affair cannot guilt William to have another child. This is not good for Kate because it means that William just doesn’t care anymore.

Kate isn’t emotionally manipulating William as much as she’s threatening his image. She’s played this game for some time and it’s starting to be a thinning rope to walk.

  21. Scandi says:

Basically every female royal in Europe has worn a black tux with shiny lapels. Crown princess Mary wore one last week which she has worn for many years. somebody posted a picture on twitter with comparisons. If Kate was cosplaying Meghan, then Meghan was cosplaying Mary, Sofia, the Spanish queen and the others. Not every influence comes from Meghan, and the black female tux has existed for like 50 years.

    • notasugarhere says:

This is not the first time Kate has copied Meghan’s outfits, merely the most recent. We’ve noted it for several years now. The Fail, who attacked Meghan for wearing a black trouser suit? Now praising Kate for cosplaying Meghan in this black trouser suit.

    • cc says:

@scandi and yet they crucified the Duchess of Sussex when she wore a same styled suit

    • Amy Bee says:

The issue is not about what other royals in Europe have worn. This is a matter of the double standards that exist in the UK when it comes to Meghan and Kate. Meghan was slammed for wearing a similar outfit to what Kate is pictured wearing today. There has only been praise for Kate’s outfit. What happened to the complaints of breaking protocol?

      • Scandi says:

I wasn’t commenting the double standards. I totally agree with that. They arent’s treated equally.

I was challenging the claim that she is ‘copying’ or ‘cosplaying’ Meghan. I really don’t think she is doing that. They clearly have different styles, and just because she wears a black tux (she has worn suits in other colors before), it doesn’t automatically mean she wants to embody and be Meghan. Not every piece of clothing, hand gesture, smile or hairstyle has to involve Meghan.

    • Val says:

Kate would have never worn that outfit had Meghan not worn that look first. Why is she wearing it now? I mean you even said that it’s been around for 50 odd years!

      • Scandi says:

But she HAS worn a ton of fitted blazers with skinny jeans. A TON. Classic and fitted blazers. She has also worn several suits. Now she wears one with shiny panels.

I agree with the double standards. Not cool. But I just do not agree with the cosplaying thing. Their styles are very different in my eyes.

If she is cosplaying anyone, I would say Crown Princess Mary. She leans way more towards her, even though Mary wears her clothes way better.

    • MsIam says:

But it wasn’t until Meghan became a member of the family that somebody told Kate to let go of the Little House on the Prairie look.

      • Becks1 says:

When have we seen Kate wear a pantsuit before? My memory could be failing me but I don’t think we have ever seen it.

This really is just straight up copying M and it’s creepy. Kate has worn blazers many times about the look is usually incredibly dowdy and conservative. We also know she has zero imagination and has spent 10 years cosplaying Diana or the Queen, so it’s not a stretch to say she is cosplaying Meghan, especially when it’s 2 years to the day pretty much after M wore that and it’s a look we have NEVER seen from K anymore.

      • Kalana says:

Yup. Kate was praised for creating a “timeless” look with her coatdresses. Now that she’s copying Meghan, she’s praised for being “modern.” But I thought the monarchy was about not being modern?

    • Nic919 says:

Kate has not done the all black with trouser look before and bringing up the other women is pointless when the British media crucified Meghan for this exact same look a while back. These are talking points made by cambstans under Dan Wootton’s Twitter account (because of course he’s praising her) and they remain disingenuous when made here.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

The museum’s iG isn’t moderation the comments and Kate is getting dragged for cosplaying Megan and not knowing how to speak properly. Then some bots are commenting emojis or “gorgeous “ and it’s all so obvious.

    • Mignionette says:

Bc this is NOT Kate’s style of dress

Every other princess has also worn a leather skirt or Jackie O shift dress but those are not Kate’s style and we don’t see Kate adopting those styles.

Rather we specifically see Kate wearing outfits very similar to Meghan’s.

I personally think that the Courtiers have realised there is a HUGE vacum in Bill and Katie’s base. Notice how increasingly their engagements center around young people much like Harry and Meghan. They are trying to control the messaging i.e. that they are interested in the younger generation to ensure their longevity and survival.

Sadly however it will not work bc it’s all photo ops with no real tackling of issues or the things that affect young lives. Contrast that with the very real issues dealt with by the Princes Trust and it;’s insulting.

    • Sid says:

Letizia, Mary, and the other married-ins have been dressing in their particular styles for years at this point, and definitely were doing so before Meghan joined the BRF. So why is it during all those years Kate never took any fashion inspiration from them, which would have actually served her well? Kate’s outfits over the past few weeks are a complete 180 from the old-fashioned Little House on the Prairie look and 1940s royal cosplay that have been her uniform for years now. It is pretty obvious what is happening here.

      • Kalana says:

Right. Letizia and Mary have distinct styles. Kate’s style is jeggings, wedges, lace, flared dresses, striped tops, coats, and buttons.

And her “adventure” vest. Can’t forget that thing.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

Kate is totally cosplaying Meghan, she never wears these types of outfits and trying to deny her single white femaleing is bull.
She is well and truly creepy, hope Meg protects herself in case this one tries to send some crazy juju her way.
Man she really has no clue who the hell she is!

      • Becks1 says:

@Sid – exactly. We said for years – well before Harry married Meghan – that Kate would do well to look at Letizia, Mary, Victoria etc for how to dress – all the other royal women who are (roughly, give or take 10 years) Kate’s peers manage to dress professionally but with a personal sense of style. Instead Kate has spent 10 years in coatdresses and costumes (we all know her “outdoor event” costume by now) and it falls flat. This is a clear attempt to copy Meghan.

      • Scandi says:

        Okay. Last comment from me.

But I live in Denmark, and people here couldn’t care less about cosplay theories. People also don’t really talk that much about either Meghan or Kate. Neither of them get that much press coverage on a daily basis, and neither of them is glorified or villified.

However, fashion magazines here have done several comparisons on similar outfits and identical pieces that Kate and Crown Princess Mary have worn. I agree – their style is not alike, but that’s what the fashion critics here see. They don’t see the cosplaying. They see two different women in Meghan and Kate. I just wanted to offer a different perspective from Scandinavia.

  22. Bookie says:

I dislike her immensely but have to concede that she looks great in this video.

  23. cc says:

I don’t think this is healthy at all.

  24. I pet goat 2 says:

Damn that’s a strong filter on that video

  25. Oh says:

She really has no personality !!I remember all the hatred and anger the RR and Kate Stans aka megxit caused because Meghan was wearing black suits, and I remember how they used to mock that the suits were not royal and that Meghan looked like she was going to a funeral… and now they will clap and praise for this woman. This really makes me disgusted

  26. TeamMeg says:

The puffy shoulders! The shiny lapels! Just NO. Awful! A smart blazer is tailored and understated. *sigh* Poor Kate. She’s a very pretty woman but so uptight.

  27. Fallon says:

    She looks fantastic!

  28. Merricat says:

It’s freaky when the hands don’t match the face.

  29. Florence says:

The veneers appear to have grown?

Or is she just smiling crazier?

Also the rapid blinking and forced pauses, HOW does this woman not know how to talk to a camera by now??

  30. GuestWho says:

She is truly bad at speaking naturally. Truly. And, as I mentioned above, her face is starting to look like Kris Jenner’s. She needs to accept the changes that time brings and stop altering things or she’s going to look like the cat lady. I almost feel badly that she is never going to be happy with herself.

  31. Digital Unicorn says:

Like the look but she is morphing into a budget Melania, esp with all the obvious work she’s had done to her face.

That is some 80s power glam right there. *plays Dynasty theme*

  32. ClaireB says:

The area around her mouth looks so tight, like she has to work to open it and speak. And even with my sound turned off, I could see the completely unnatural pauses she took between sentences, and the speech wasn’t even that long! I honestly never really thought Kate was dumb, because she did okay in school and got into uni, and she was obviously good at stalking, but why can’t she memorize 3 or 4 sentences and talk to the camera naturally?

  33. cc says:

I don’t really care about whether she had plastic surgery or not. What I do care about is her loud silence regarding the relentless abuse DOS had to endure her four years in that ‘instituion” (app word).

She benefitted from that abuse. She relished that abuse. She participated in the abuse.

  34. Mignionette says:

As a black woman I find this outfit just another disgusting episode of a privileged white woman who was complicit in the abuse of a WOC in a new home country and who was also a new mother. This woman also openly relished in that power dynamic (Westminster Abbey).

At this stage I hope Brexit is the final nail in the coffin of the BRF. When the Union inevitably falls apart and people are loosing their jobs, the BRF better hide and put their dirty entitled hands back into their own pockets.

How any woman can live with herself whilst behaving like this is beyond me. I was ambivalent to Kate before, but more and more I actively dislike her.

  35. Sunnee says:

Dis B..tch!! The SWFing is beyond anything I’ve ever seen. Has Kate no pride?! No sense of her self? She’s been cos-playing her grandmother-in-law for years. Then the Diana cos-play. Now her SIL. She has no personal style, does she? Wrap coat, Black skinny suit, I’m telling you, next year it will be a red caped column dress.
MegHan is that powerful, yes she is. She has the FFQ cos-playing her. Ha ha ha.

  36. Lizzie says:

Yet she was so confident parading in her underwear in public. Hard to reconcile.

I think she expected a chorus of ‘Kate wore it better’. Instead, crickets.

  37. CrystalBall says:

It is a frightening state of mind that deliberately stalks and copies for public display the style of her unfairly maligned sister-in-law. It is so brazen and yet this is only the tip of the iceberg of this disturbed individual. Not surprisingly, the sophisticated suit clashes hopelessly with her pageant-style hair and makeup. The conflicting elements without reveal the conflict within this immature and scheming character.

    • Ina says:

100% agree on the hair incongruous with the sleek outfit. Hopeless styling. She can never complete a look as there’s always something off. KM is a b.o.r.e.

    • Amy Too says:

And this outfit and the many other recent Meghan cosplay outfits and jewelry, coming right on the heels of the “Battling Brothers” (or whatever it’s called) excerpt about how Kate literally stalked William and copied his every move (gap year, what college, what major, which classes, which dorm, what parties, what social set, what clubs, what hobbies, etc) really highlights how creepy and intensely copy-cat she can be.

She’s either entirely codependent as others have suggested, with no personality or preferences of her own, and just morphs into/mirrors the people who she feels have control over her (her mother, William, the Queen), or, as others have suggested, she is actively manipulating everyone around her and specifically curating the way she is perceived by scheming to copy the people that others love/are popular (Jecca, Diana, Meghan, the Queen). She’s dressed like all of these women at various times, in order to manipulate individual people and/or the public into believing she has the same positive qualities as those women. She even has George and Louis cosplaying young William and Harry by having them wear the exact same original clothing that they wore as children.

Is she doing this because she’s that maniacal and manipulative and she plans it all knowing the exact emotional effect it will have on others? As a way to show Meghan that she can do/wear the exact same thing and be praised for it when Meghan was attacked? Or does she do it without bad intention because something in her head is telling her to “fake it till you make it” by copying the people who either are currently or have previously been in the role she wants or currently plays (Will’s girlfriend, Duchess, mother of an heir, future queen consort) because she has imposter syndrome and is hoping that no one will figure out that she’s actually very lost and empty and doesn’t know what she’s doing? Is it a little bit of both? Did it start as one and then morph into the other at some point?

      • Mignionette says:

Kate’s copying is always to please Bill so it does make you wonder why she is now cos-playing Meghan ? I have always felt that Bill had some sort of sexual tension to Meg that he was too self-unaware to recognize.

Maybe Bill took it upon himself to ‘test’ Meghan at some point to make a point to Harry and it spectacularly backfired?

  38. Julia K. says:

She looks good, better than usual. Less tired, so whatever she had done to her face is working. I know the evidence is out there against this but I believe she is possibly more sympathetic to Meghan than what appears. She knows that keeping her mouth shut and her feelings under wraps is job security. She has devoted half of her life to wandering Willie and she will do whatever is takes to keep him. Money, position and power and adorable children are powerful motivators.

    • Merricat says:

Kate has a long history of mean-hurling other females. I don’t believe for a moment that she has a drop of compassion for Meghan. Her behavior has been atrocious, and she’s a grown woman, so blaming someone else for her choices is absurd.

    • Lizzie says:

I a ton of sympathy for loads of women who are married to men around whom they must toe the line, because most don’t have a way out financially. Those with the means to leave do or else they choose to stay every day and lose my sympathy. Anyone think the kids aren’t aware of their dad’s rage and sometimes have to tiptoe around him?

    • Nic919 says:

That argument would be credible if Kate hadn’t given Meghan the cut direct at the commonwealth service. No one made her do that and even William didn’t act that poorly. Also her shady comments about presenting her kids for the people in that interview about maternal health. Kate is complicit in this smear campaign against her sister in law and should not be excused for it. She doesn’t understand that more focus on her only reveals her massive shortcomings, but she’s never been known as intelligent.

  39. February-Pisces says:

She’s definitely NOT socially distancing from her Botox guy. And what’s with her lips, were they always that crisp thin or am I just imagining it?

I saw the DM comments and the bots were full of praise, lots of them commenting on how stunning she is. Umm 🤔

    • Lizzie says:

I’m not social distancing from my Botox lady either 🙂 We both wear ppe, and I move my mask as needed.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

Her upper lip was always thin, but the tightened face and fillers make it look much smaller.

The comments everywhere are either bots with short and simple praises (sometimes double posting) or real people commenting on her racism and hypocrisy.

  40. Ina says:

Wow. She is totally copying MM with pants-wearing of late. Goes to show she’s a copy cat. Not a trendsetter. Lacking her own imagination and conviction. Sad empty vessel of a woman.

    • 2cents says:

Kate is pressured by courtiers to up her PR game. She’s moving further away from her authentic self. Not good for her mental health in the long run. The same with William being desperately pushed to be a global leader for the environment. The courtiers are panicking. The British royal family is a joke!

  41. Mariane says:

Unbelievable that for a women with access to
endless resources and being a royal for 10 years she still cant put out full sentences without having heavily scripted and edited video. Why is she recording to announce she’ll be presenting the next day?!!! KP is desperate to increase her numbers and thinks this will fly. I was cringing with her Meghan cosplay. If only she could copy her work ethic and passion

  42. yinyang says:

    She’s got too much money.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

She has no money. Her family is in massive debt/not as rich as they claim. William has limited funds for now and what he does have she is not entitled to. She lives entirely off taxpayers. Her cosmetic upkeep is paid for via taxes or her FIL.

  43. ziaaa says:

Holy moly….the video is airbrushed/filtered to the max. If you look at the candid pics taken during the recording her face captures tell a different/true story. So insecure!

Are we getting the royal version of the absolute bonkers “Leann Rimes SWFing Brandi Glanville!” saga….the end-goals may be different but Keen’s desperate stalking of PWT to the altar is at par with equivalent to Rimes stalking of Eddie whatshisname.

  44. starryfish29 says:

White womanhood strikes again, flitting down the paths drawn by WOC after they’ve suffered the brunt of the blowback. They really think they can just dress her up like a new version of Meghan with the bonus of being white! But as usual, it’s always just a costume. Sadly it’ll probably work, it usually does.

  45. RoyalBlue says:

she is trying to appeal to the hip Sussex fanbase as her fans consist of grannies, Brexits and MAGAs who all love her coat dresses.

As for the video clip, I thought she was trained by some great elocution master early on in her royal life. All that money spent on those lessons and she still sounded stilted with pauses in the wrong spots. That was awful reading.

  46. khaveman says:

Don’t they say the eyes give you away? She looks terrified and this feels wooden and it’s only about 1 minute. LOL

    • Kalana says:

It’s so strange. Just keep practicing it. Say it a hundred times until you get sick of it. Record daily videos for practice. She has the time to do all of this.

  47. Flying Fish says:

    56th, 56th…

  48. Suz says:

The constant waving of her hands is very distracting. The pauses were awkward.
Something nice: She looks good in dark colors.

I work in a museum in the US and we reopened in late July. Small numbers of pre-booked guests are allowed in at a time, masks and social distancing are required and there’s a more distinct path you have to take through the exhibits. For now, the windows are allowed open which is not good for the preservation of the collection but better for humans. I don’t know what they’ll do about that when winter hits and it hits hard where I live.

  49. Mina_Esq says:

Here I am, loving TWO Kate outfits, back to back. What has 2020 done to me?! 🙂

  50. Delphine says:

It’s the best she’s looked in a long time. The InStyle article mentioned it was similar to what Meghan wore, and I think it’s ridiculous that Meghan ever took flack for when she wore it. I would wear this. A black suit is pretty universal like a little black dress. I think I her hair looks good as well. But yeah it does look like she’s leaning into Meg’s style, or biting it as they say.

  51. Mir says:

Do I think she looks good, yes. Is she uncomfortable filming this yes . Has she improved her public speaking , yes. Is she cosplaying, 100% yes!!! Anyone who brings up Mary and letitzia are being very dishonest, disingenuous & are probably the same people that condemned Meghan for wearing the same outfit 2-3 years ago and called her unroyal and unfit. This is world class gaslighting!! Congratulations Kensington Karen on being true to type like your ancestors before you , standing on the shoulders of yet another woman of colour who opened the door for you to be trendsetter when in reality you have no original bone in your body!! kate has no discernible style and she wears what she is told to wear . She always dresses to fit a narrative. Flag dressing , sports dressing , nature dressing, Perfect wife dressing….now she wears simple jewellery with her kids initials? She wears sustainable clothing with a message ? She dresses in all black? Since bloody when??? watch out Greta ,Malala , and some random teen podcast with at least 2 black people, Kate is coming for you next in the next round of “ I can be Meghan but whiter”!!

  52. Sass says:

Took me years to figure out who she reminds me of.

It’s Lindsay Lohan before the plastic surgery.
