Peggy Noonan thinks Kamala Harris is ‘insubstantial’ & ‘frivolous’ for dancing

Trump gives an Update on the Nation?s Coronavirus Testing

I miss so many things about OG Gawker, but one of the things I miss the most is their takedowns of Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan. Noonan was a speechwriter for Ronald Reagan, and she fashioned a certain kind of columnist/politico profile for herself: the mean Republican lush, sitting in her Manhattan apartment, yearning for a time when there were fewer brown and Black people around. This is her brand and it’s awful. So, as you can imagine, Ol’ Peg had some thoughts about Kamala Harris, she of the Black and Indian heritage, who has the audacity to laugh and be loud. Can you even imagine??

Wow, of all of the people in this campaign, it’s weird that Peggy Noonan thinks KAMALA is the one who seems “insubstantial” and “frivolous.” Not the game show host who whines constantly, doesn’t understand sarcasm, and repeatedly insists that he passed his cognitive tests. How dare a woman – much less a Black and Indian woman – show joy, or dance, or be LOUD.

Oh, in the same breath, Peggy was talking about Trump’s crowd sizes, completely shrugging off the fact that we’re in the middle of a damn pandemic??

Women like Peggy are such a disservice to the whole womanhood; her opinion could have been written by the most misogynistic man and it would have been the same. Orange man has been trying to dance at rallies, and he did look ridiculous, no word from her……..this is so despicable; I understand if she would disagree with Kamala’s policies or stance on issues but not THIS!!!!

What makes a woman become like Peggy? is it internalized patriarchy? or just plain old racism?

    • Kalana says:

Racism and jealousy. Peggy Noonan is seething with jealousy.

      • Betsy says:

I also think there’s a huge element of internalized misogyny. Lots of women like Peggy Noonan really hate other women, especially when they deviate from the narrow conservative path that they think women should stay on.

    • smcollins says:

“What makes a woman become like Peggy? is it internalized patriarchy? or just plain old racism?”

Both. She’s the blueprint for today’s “Karen”

      • lanne says:

Aw Peggy, shut up! Isn’t there a manager somewhere you need to speak to about some mild inconvenience you were forced to endure?

      • Otaku fairy says:

Yep, it’s both. And @Miranda, I’m with you on Rush Limbaugh.

    • Chica1971 says:

The part where she said Rush Limbaugh was handsome in his gray sweater was ridiculous! He’s a fat f**k, did I mentioned racist? I guess you know folks character by the individuals they idolize.

      • Miranda says:

Oh yes, that Rush Limbaugh is an absolute dreambarge!

(I know that’s bitchy, but I don’t care. He’s a racist, misogynistic, homophobic piece of shit and a hypocritical addict, and his feelings mean less than nothing to me.)

      • It’sjustblanche says:

Handsome? He’s on death’s door and looks like someone beat him with a sock full of wet sand, but okay.

      • Miranda says:

@It’sjustblanche – That’s still “Republican hot,” I think. They done scraped the bottom of the barrel and are now hand-digging a hole underneath that barrel to suck up the groundwater.

      • Poisonella says:

        What Miranda said!

    • Tanguerita says:

      She is deplorable.

    • whatWHAT? says:

and they said the same thing about and tried to shame AOC for THE SAME DAMN THING. there was some video of her in college dancing and all it did was make her MORE likeable and relatable. Conservatives and/or the GOP don’t seem to get that this kind of behavior is attractive to people, not a turn off at all.

it’s only “frivolous” and “insubstantial” to people who already don’t like her aren’t going to vote for Biden/Harris anyway. but hey, put that tubby orange monster on stage dancing to “Macho Man” and it’s all good.

      • Betsy says:

Trump’s arrhythmic, uncoordinated side to side movement can only be referred to as “dancing” in the most charitable telling possible. Maybe that’s why Noonan doesn’t comment on his on stage antics. It’s not dancing.

      • Darla says:

Yeah, Betsy is right. It’s more lurching. Not dancing.

    • Otaku fairy says:

So much this, but most of them don’t see that. One of the things women like Peggy Noonan, Amy Comey Barret, Noor Bin Laden, Julie Bindel, Megan Murphy, and others like them prove is that we really put too high a value on a certain kind of womanhood. Being ‘Classy’ really tells you little, if anything, about a woman’s character or impact on the lives of others. It doesn’t make someone a good person, or mean their choices in life aren’t in line with the male gaze. The scapegoating and victim-blaming we do over this issue is not only harmful, but ultimately petty and pointless.

    • Eurogirl70 says:

Peggy Noonan has been hooked to a single malt scotch drip and sleeping with an inflatable Ronnie Reagan doll (tire repair kit at the ready) for the last 40 years, since her days as a Reagan speech writer. She is a talking bobble head; talks a lot and says nothing! A lot of hand wringing on the state of American politics and yet worked for a man (Reagan) who repealed the Fairness Doctrine which gave us propaganda networks like Fox, brought the Christian Right into the political fold, a man who worked behind the scenes to see that American hostages in Iran were not released until after the 1980 election and kicked off his 1980 campaign in Philadelphia, MS, where 3 Civil Rights workers were killed, and talked up “states rights”; the coded language of segregation! Peggy is a pickled prig!

  2. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

It’s hard to think and talk with Negan’s Lucille shoved up your ass.

  3. minx says:

Days before the 2012 election Noonan wrote a gloppy, smarmy column called “Monday Morning” that predicted Romney would win big over Obama. It was so delicious a couple of days later when she was forced to eat her words.

    • Insomniac says:

I remember that! She saw a Romney yard sign in DC or something, and was convinced it meant he was going to pull off an upset. All her campaign experience told her so, of course. *hic*

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

That *hic*!!! Thank you for starting my day off with a big laugh! 🤗

      • minx says:

Hic! 😂. It was nauseating, talking about how Romney would “restore” the country after the horror of the black president (not in those words of course). She’s a complete hack.

  4. Lemons says:

Sit down and shut up, Peggy. We get it, you can’t dance, and you can’t stand seeing a Black woman who is smarter than you ALSO move better than you and connect with the people better than you ever have.

White people (all people, really), please do not let your kids grow up without knowing what rap, hip hop, soul, R&B and blues are! Teach them how to move early. Otherwise, you end up with Peggy’s, harboring this hatred all her life.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I’m a white woman who really can dance to save my life. The moves in my head never *quite* communicate the *same* moves to my feet and a$$ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Still, I do it with joy. I recognise the joy in others’ dancing. Kamala was having FUN, and dare I say it, FEELING the joy of being there. That’s what a *real* connection with others feels like.

Ol’ Peg should go back and curl up with the only thing that gives her joy: her liquor bottle and her country club (which is probably a Whites Only membership-without it being *said* out loud). She and Phyllis Schlafley were probably besties.

    • Lemons says:

It’s not the knowing how to dance, it’s being able to feel the music and enjoy it, which you DO!

Peggy has never been able to groove and when I hear comments like this, I feel that someone has done a disservice to her from a very young age, and this is why she can even write those words today.

Did Peggy mention Trump’s Spongebob moves on the campaign trail? Of course not. He ACTUALLY looked like a clown. Because he is.

    • Aoife says:

Kamala should take Lemons’ advice: check out the interview with Angela Ryer when she was asked to name the best rapper alive and she answered Tupac. OMG. And she couldn’t come up with the name of a single living rapper, lol.

  5. Zaya says:

Of course she doesn’t think the same of trump “dancing.” Typical.

  6. Lightpurple says:

I have always viewed Peggy Noonan as frivolous and insubstantial.

    • Esmom says:

Nailed it. Not to mention…after Trump, no one has any leg to stand on to EVER call anyone insubstantial.

      • whatWHAT? says:

yeah whenever I hear a magat say something about a celeb endorsing Biden/Harris, something to the effect of “who cares what a celebrity thinks!” I remind them 1) how much they cheer for Ted Nugent, Kid Rock and Chachi when they appear at some event for 45 and 2) YOU ELECTED A F*CKING CELEBRITY, you knob.

they’re mostly jealous that the only “celebrities” they get are on the D-list. or lower even. before 45, when was the last time you actually thought about Chachi? at least the other two still tour.

      • LightPurple says:

@whatWHAT? and how many of them tag James Woods on every single tweet.

      • whatWHAT? says:

oh, I forgot about James Woods.

I wrote that and then I started to LAUGH…because I FORGOT about James Woods. hahahahahahaha…LOSER! another has-been.

    • Mumbles says:

She made her bones as speechwriter for Reagan and Bush, talk about insubstantial (I’m serious, it was all blowsy cotton-candy purple prose.) And if you read her “memoir” (it was years ago and I needed to do it for a class, I would never have done it willingly) for all her Upper East Side pretensions, she is incredibly insecure about her Catholic, working-class background. This gets manifested in fawning over the white WASPs, and resentment of anyone who doesn’t fit that narrow mold.

It will be something to see what the KHive does to her on line. They do not tolerate any criticism about Harris.

  7. Miranda says:

Well yeah, because Black people are only allowed to dance and sing while working on the plantation. Obviously. They were so happy and carefree back then!

    /heavy, heavy sarcasm!

ETA: Didn’t the Republicans also try to talk shit about AOC a while back because a clip surfaced of her dancing like a dork in college? She and Kamala should collaborate.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Yes. They put the vid on Twitter and started cackling with glee about how shameful it/she was. She slapped them down and OWNED it. She did a move in the Congressional hallway right after that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBeuzWWKrew

    • Jaded says:

Every time AOC gets smacked down by some old white dude (or dudette) she comes back with the BEST responses…remember “Bitches get stuff done” after Congressman Ted “Yahoo” Yoho called her a f*cking bitch on the steps of capitol hill?

  8. ChillyWilly says:

Irrelevant old white lady says what?

    • tempest prognosticator says:

      Precisely

    • whatWHAT? says:

      nailed it.

    • C-Shell says:

Noonan has never, ever gotten past her Reagan halcyon days. Everything she writes harkens back to that golden time, explicitly and implicitly, which arguably set us on the path to hell we’ve been on and that’s turned us into a plague-ridden, economic plane crash, run by a moronic, fascistic racist. Yeah, I imagine MAGA really resonates with that one.

    • lucy2 says:

      Exactly.

After 4 utterly joyous years, I can’t even describe how good it feels to see someone energetic and excited and fun campaigning to lead. A video went around yesterday too of a bunch of people dancing in line to vote. It’s good to see a little happiness and joy out there, especially right now. I pity people like Peggy who can’t see it that way, and only look to tear down.

  9. Ariel says:

On the plus side. More racists die out every day.

  10. Noodle says:

So Senator Harris isn’t allowed to dance and laugh and enjoy herself, but if she stood around sullenly, you would ask why she was so angry. There’s no pleasing this woman.

    • whatWHAT? says:

same thing goes for Black people who protest.

if they block the streets and march, no good. then you have someone like Kap, who protests quietly, and that’s no good either.

so, it’s not REALLY about HOW they protest, it’s that they dare to protest at all. F*CKING RACISTS.

      • MsIam says:

More like they dare to exist in their own space instead of sucking up to or entertaining the “important ones”. Looking at you Herschel Walker, Candace Owens, Diamond and Silk and so on and so on.

  11. JanaTHING says:

So Trump can dance to Macho Man at a rally with no social distancing or masks, but you choose to call out Kamal Harris for dancing at a rally WITH social distancing and masks…sounds more than a little bit racist, as well as sexist, to me.

  12. Emily says:

So that video of Trump dancing at a rally doesn’t count, or it’s just okay for old white Republican men to dance. She’s one of those women who begged for Gilead and than have to live in it.

  13. Darla says:

Peggy Noonan has brain damage from too many lusty nights with her Ronald Reagan-shaped dildo.

  14. Darla says:

    Oh, and she’s also racist.

  15. ABritGuest says:

She seems like a Karen and black joy always triggers those. Internalised misogyny too- woman in power cant be rounded individuals. Meanwhile Trump doing whatever he was doing to YMCA& Macho Man doesn’t bother her.

  16. Paperclip says:

Good old Peggington Noonington, Queen of Karens, strikes again. She’s such an *as.

  17. Diana says:

She is the OG Karen and garbage person. What a miserable excuse for a human being. Ugh… next

  18. TIFFANY says:

    Town drunk says what…..????

  19. Feedmechips says:

Feedmechips thinks that Peggy Noonan can fuck right off.

  20. Kim says:

Unfortunately for the Peggys of the world (much better moniker than Karens), she’s of the generation on the way out. Ms. Harris is one of the generations that needs to lead the way to the changes so long over due.

For this is I am grateful.

    Eight days and counting.

  21. MJM says:

Kamala’s dancing joy is balm for my soul in these difficult days. Peggy noonan is entitled to her very racist opinion I guess. She will never change and I could care less about her.

  22. Teebee says:

She comes off judgy, petty, hypocritical, old fashioned and sexist.

Which sounds about right for a Republican mouthpiece.

  23. jferber says:

Oh, shut up, Peggy. You’re not classy, like you think you are. There is no such thing as a lace curtain ultra-conservative.

  24. JanetDR says:

One of the things I truly adore about Kamala is how authentic she is. You never feel that she is parsing her words, she just speaks truth. I love the way she dresses so appropriately for the job she is doing and I cannot wait to see what she wears to the inauguration and following festivities! (My votes in, I can say it 😊) When I hear music, I dance. It’s the most natural thing in the world!
I am so ready to be joyful and feel positive about the future again. We just have to get through the election and whatever bulls*** they come up with in the meantime.

    • lucy2 says:

I feel she’s very authentic too, and you can tell she actually has a sense of humor and humanity. My favorite thing was when an interviewer asked if she’d seen the fly on Pence’s head, and she didn’t say a worded, just sort of winced and nodded, and then laughed. That’s how a real person answers.

  25. Leah says:

But Trump dancing at one of his rallies like a crooked marionette puppet was okay? Oh yes because women are supposed to remain in the background and not be seen while men get to do exactly what they want.

I just can’t with this handmaiden Karen, uh Peggy.

  26. Winterforever says:

    She’s so beige

  27. Giddy says:

Would the senile, alcoholic, racist, Judgmental, bitchy, jealous, harpy kindly take a seat. One of the reasons Kamala dances with joy is that your day is done. Dance on Kamala, dance on.

  28. Grace says:

I love Kamala. Everything about her.

  29. Liz version 700 says:

I had totally forgotten this witch existed. She is absolutely awful. Please shut up Peggy and take several seats. Your “glory” days are over. Kamala dances right by you without even a second glance. B

  30. Stef says:

Love how she talks about hating the current shallowness of politics yet not picks Kamala for the shallowest of things.

This woman is out of touch and comes across as an old, crazy, b#tch! She’s irrelevant and has no idea that no one cares what she thinks.

  31. Kkat says:

My son and I dropped off our very blue votes in the Dropbox last night, I did a little dance as I did 💃

  32. Chelle says:

And Peggy has been pushing insubstantial frivolity longer than she’s been relevant. So there.

  33. Cachinak says:

It made me cry a little seeing Kamala Harris dancing in the rain. It gave me a little glimpse of a positive future, a little glimpse of sunshine in the harrowing rain of 2020

  34. Izzy says:

Read the room, Sourpuss Peggy. We NEED the joy Mamala is bringing right now.

  35. Mina_Esq says:

Funny because it’s her dancing and overall positive energy that make me respect her more. The fact that she is able to be joyful while also kicking a$$ in the Senate and running a campaign is total #goals situation.

  36. Jayna says:

So Peggy has a problem with Kamala dancing, but no mention of Trump dancing on stage to YMCA in that viral video? Now, that’s a horror film. He was doing the Jerry Seinfeld Elaine dance. LOL

  37. Stacy Dresden says:

Who is the pointless ho in this scenario? Methinks it’s not Kamala

  38. WTF says:

Everyone has said it better than me. I just wanted to come here and endorse the dragging that she is getting.

  39. Renee says:

Peggy Noonan has been trash since forever. She’s irrelevant and she knows it.
