Joe Biden’s final campaign ads are so upbeat, lovely & patriotic

Former Vice President Joe Biden has a Drive thru rally at the Jewish Society Museum in Philadelphia

We’ve hopefully reached the end of the road. More than 90 million Americans have voted early, either by absentee ballot or at an early voting polling station. God knows how many millions will vote today. For the last month, as Joe Biden solidified his lead in the polls, he’s been going almost entirely positive with his media and advertising. Sure, he’s got Barack Obama out there doing the damn MOST to criticize Donald Trump. But I like that Biden’s ads have been mostly about the need for our country to find our soul again, to celebrate our diversity and to celebrate human kindness. What I guess I wasn’t expecting was a late entry from Eminem, a long-time Democratic Party supporter who absolutely LOATHES Donald Trump. Em – Marshall – rarely licenses his music for any kind of advertising, but he decided to license his Oscar-winning song “Lose Yourself” to the Biden-Harris campaign for one of their final ads. It’s a great one!

Did… did Marshall just help Joe and Kamala win Michigan? Fingers crossed! Marshall still lives in Michigan (Detroit) and he’s a big deal there. Considering how sparingly he uses his voice in the political arena, this means something, and it will mean something in Detroit and in Michigan entirely. Em also tweeted out the ad, and I looked at maybe ten comments from butthurt MAGA snowflakes, lamenting the fact that a dude like Marshall Mathers is anti-Trump and pro-Biden.

Nikki Giovanni also endorsed Joe Biden and did an ad. This is amazing too! God, Biden’s ad people are great.

But one of my favorite last-minute ads from the Biden-Harris campaign is this one, narrated by Brayden Harrington, the 13-year-old boy who stutters. Brayden met Biden at an event, and Biden spent time with him, talking about his own stutter. Brayden got to make a speech at the DNC too, and this ad is wonderful.

These are great ads. Biden’s team has produced really good ads all along.

    Trump’s ads are about Trump.

    Biden’s ads are about us.

Let’s do what is best for all of us.

    • Esmom says:

Yes to everything you said. If only more people would see it this way instead of stubbornly digging in their heels for Trump.

    • Astrid says:

      +1

    • Merrie says:

      Well said, LightPurple!

    • Anners says:

These ads made me tear up – they are lovely and uplifting and the world sure needs more of that right now. Good luck, America – the rest of the world is watching and waiting with you.

      • Traveler says:

Your comment made me tear up too.

      • Jessie says:

Yeah I don’t know why but I’m full on crying over that ad, it’s so hopeful and I’m so scared for my friends and family in the US.

      • Lisa says:

THIS!!! I have been buying the New York Times from the 711 across the street from my apartment here in Hong Kong. It costs me USD5 for that flimsy bit of printed paper, but damn its depressing to read. I pray (and I am not the praying kind) that Trump doesnt win, because all hope is officially lost if he does. The rest of the world is watching, practically with acid reflux, as we wait for your country to vote.

    • Liz version 700 says:

You said it exactly! Biden’s ads are about us.

    • lucy2 says:

      Well said.

Biden’s ad team has been great. There’s also regular people out there making amazing ones as well. We need a blue tsunami today.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

There was one with Brad Pitt that I only heard once that I didn’t like but that’s because Brad Pitt is an abusive asshole not anything to do with Biden.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I love this man. That’s all. Just love him. Do I agree with *everything* he’s done, politically, in his career? No. But I have NEVER doubted he CARES. That he is empathetic, kind, caring, loving…. You can see it in how he interacts with people on AND OFF the camera…from the people who say Joe called to follow up on how their kid’s health was doing after meeting them on the election trail. Sigh… I can go on w/examples, but we all know the man.

I am praying SO HARD (and I’m not one who really believes), but we NEED Joe for the soul of our country…to still HAVE a country… #GoJoe!! #BidenHarrisToSaveAmerica!

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

We NEED the only viable option that isn’t Trump. I don’t love Biden and he’s done and said some very problematic things in his political career. And his campaign like all campaigns is very performative. I think that’s a very fair statement.

I am also very jaded towards any career politician.

    • Becks1 says:

Yes, the ads are so good. They make me really want to vote for Biden and to have a caring, empathetic person in the White House again. (well I already voted for him but I was proud to do so.)

    • LahdidahBaby says:

Beautifully put as always, LightPurple. I’m always glad when you’re here, and never more than today.

  2. MaryContrary says:

I’m on the west coast and I’ve been up since 4am with anxiety. I know we all have ptsd from 2016, but I just keep thinking (despite the god awful MAGA trains) that there are way more of us than them-and all the early, historically huge turnouts, have to mean something positive. Half of my brain is trying to prepare for another 4 years of insanity, and half is cautiously optimistic.

    • Lizzythe2 says:

I took the day off tomorrow from work. In case he wins I won’t be able to work from sadness. So I hope Biden wins. I do think most of the people see what a horror trump is but as you, cautiously optimistic.

    • Ariel says:

At work this morning crying watching Biden ads. Barely slept last night. Last election, i called in sick the day after, i just couldn’t go to see the celebrating racists in my office.
I may have to take a xanax. I already took a prescription stress headache medication i have for occasional use.

      I have hope.
      I have dread too.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Mary, I’ve been having to take Ambien to get to sleep. This last month I’ve been so on edge, and I’m at the zenith right now. Joe’s ads are amazing. I’ve been watching them as they’ve posted on Twitter the last few weeks. I cry a lot.

Here in the Beverly Hills area, streets are closed, (not just Rodeo Dr.) but all around the city on major streets (like Wilshire) to stop the MAGAts from doing a train. Stores/buildings have been boarded up. It’s crazy. My sister lives in Santa Monica (and is one block from where some of the rioting happened during the BLM protests). She told me that she’s gotten extra cash in the house, and stocked up on some groceries in case they can’t get out of the house for a week or more (and told me to do the same).

These MAGAts are CRAZY!! I don’t know what they’ll do if that Moldy Orange POS loses…. but I am SO WILLING to find out!!! #GoJoe!

    • LahdidahBaby says:

I get that, Mary Contrary. I just didn’t go to bed last night, because there’s something worse (for me, anyway) about lying in bed wide awake, with hope and dread in a death-struggle inside my skull, than just sitting up with a book and the election news on mute across the room.

  3. paranormalgirl says:

I just want some basic decency and respect for the American people. Trump is incapable of that. Biden is capable of it.

  4. Erin says:

Why am I crying at a political ad?! I’m about to head out to vote in Detroit, and feeling hopeful today without the pervasive sense of dread the past few days have brought. Sending love to everyone, please stay safe voting and let’s hope tomorrow is a new day!!!

  5. Diana says:

Bawling at Braydens ad!!!!! So beautiful!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

    • equality says:

I liked that one also. It really annoys me that Trump worshipers make fun of Biden for something that a person can’t control, like stuttering.

      • MaryContrary says:

It’s because they’re bullies. They mock and belittle other people to try and make themselves feel better. It’s pathetic. (And unlike Sharon Stone, I have zero empathy for them.)

      • Mumbles says:

As has been said about Trump’s base – they love him because of the cruelty, not despite of it. The cruelty is the point.

The ads are great. Also saw one last night set to Ray Charles’ version of “America the Beautiful.” The only time his estate licensed his music for a political ad.

The way they timed the images with Eminem’s lyrics was great.

So much better than Katy Perry’s “Roar.”

      • Liz version 700 says:

Trump’s base are the assailed who shoved kids on lockers and dropped out before senior year

    • Abby says:

      Me too. Made me cry!

    • a reader says:

YESSSS crying over my morning coffee here

  6. Seraphina says:

Amazing how different the tone and message is when comparing the two parties’ ads.
And wow to the Eminem ad. Very awesome him granting permission for using the song.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

From what i was reading on Twitter, Em giving permission was a big deal as not only because he never does it but also because of how big a deal he is in his home state and how much his influence matters.

His twitter feed was on fire with all the trolls – I would love him to write a dis track to all the online trolls.

      • Seraphina says:

Knowing Em, he is probably sitting back and enjoying how much the Trumpers are upset with what he did. And it makes me happy to know he has that much influence. Gives me a good feeling about him – that he used his influence to help do the right thing.

  7. Feedmechips says:

Never in my life have I had to wait in a line to vote before today. I showed up at 6 am to a full parking lot and a line out the door. Very excited to see the blue wave in action.

    • Mac says:

The early voting lines in my precinct were longer than any I’ve ever seen on election day. This went on for two weeks. Fingers and toes crossed.

  8. M says:

Come on America!!!! Please vote Biden even if you can’t stand him. Canada needs you to make a good decision today too.

  9. Laalaa says:

Good luck, USA!!!! fingers crossed this nightmare is over!!!

  10. julia says:

I’m Canadian, and have hated watching this shit show unfold in the US, but I somehow have faith that the American people will vote for the right candidate in this election. Please God. And those ads were beautiful. He seems like such a warm man.

  11. CV says:

    YES !

If republicans thought they could win with more people voting, they would not be trying so hard to stop so many Americans from doing so.

VOTE, because they don’t want you to.

    VOTE, because your vote counts.

    VOTE, to end this chaos.

    #BidenHarrisToEndThisNightmare 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  12. SJ Knows says:

    Please let Biden win.
I am going to try to wait until tomorrow to even check the news, I plan to listen to Andrea Boucelli, and his beautiful calming voice today, all other electronics turned off.

This country needs to pull together. The elected officials who are Public Servants must stop this downward spiral of hate, division, and lying, lying, lying.

Life can be peaceful if you work at it. Treat people with respect, mind your manners, try to do better and if you are a hate filled idiot screaming out BS, please stop. Just stop it.

Honestly, why has that become so difficult for people to do?
Keep your own house, mind your own business, live and let live….I’ve been taught this my entire life.
The last 4 years have brought me to tears many times.

Please, Universe, please get Trump Out!

Have a good day everybody, hug your loved ones.

  13. H says:

I voted two weeks ago by mail here in Florida, where my county is solidly red and Trump Train car parades are a thing. I’m counting on the rest of my state, especially in Tampa and Miami, to come out today and vote Blue. The horror of another 4 years of HIM is too terrifying to think of.

Hugs all my fellow CBers. You guys give me hope we can do this.

    • Gina says:

You voting for Biden in Florida gives me hope!
I live in a very blue state so I extra appreciate your vote.

    • Lightpurple says:

My boyfriend’s parents also voted Biden in Florida and my mom’s best friend and her boyfriend voted for Biden in the Villages.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

My parents live in the Villages. Most of them are trash. My parents love it. It’s nice to hear there’s a couple of not insane people there.

    • windyriver says:

Have family that voted for Biden in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska.

    • Dee Kay says:

Thank you for voting blue in FL!!!!!

    • What...now? says:

Yes, thank you red state folks for voting Biden!! I’m in a solidly blue state, so although I know my vote matters, your vote(s) could literally save us from another 4 years of that mess in the white house.

Thank you to everyone who voted. Thank you to those who didn’t let the obstacles stand in your way to cast your vote!

I’m going to donate to “Pizza to the Polls” today. They deliver pizza to voters having to wait in long lines. Maybe some hot pizza on a cold day (for some folks) would be a nice way to say thanks for hanging in there!!

  14. AmyB says:

Hey when you have Eminem and the cast of Hamilton doing ads for your campaign? That’s a good day!!! It’s been so great hearing Obama on the campaign trail too – and yes the contrast between the messages of these two candidates is all you really need to hear. Trump just attacks his opponent, calling him names, talks about his crowd size and how Covid-19 is “over” Sure Jan.

Biden and Harris are speaking about their plans to deal with the pandemic, and plans for the future. This ain’t going to be easy, coming out of this mess, but I sure as HELL have a million times more confidence in Biden/Harris than the shit show that has gone on for the last four years under the orange nightmare!

  15. Dizzy says:

Good luck from Canada. Everyone stay safe.

  16. Also Ali says:

Lose Yourself is the best let’s do this song! Let’s do this America!!! 💙💙💙

    (I’m terrified but hopeful.)

  17. Kimber says:

I am so freaking nervous. I see the unbelievable numbers that show up for Trump’s selfish, self centered, self righteous and unbearable rallies. The numbers of caravans with a hundred cars and trucks— I see them on the highways (I live in Iowa) and they are so disheartening and frankly scary. How anyone in their right mind can support this buffoon?? He’s an embarrassment to mankind- not just to America. I will have lost hope if he wins. Joe and Kamela have my vote and prayers. And if they were to win- they’ll definitely need those prayers. Both for the mess Trump left us in and the radical dissent that has sprung up in this country. #voteblue

  18. Snuffles says:

I’m lucky enough to live in a blue state in an extremely blue county. But I’ve seen a few Trump ads on TV that were SO ridiculous they were like watching an SNL parody. I saw one about Defund the Police and it was like watching a commercial for The Purge. It showed a suburban white couple being surrounded by masked urban youths getting dragged out of their car as they try to dial 911 and no one answered. Then the tag line “This is Biden’s America”.

    It was ABSURD. 🙄

    • paranormalgirl says:

Yes. Only Trump can save America from… Trump’s America. Yeah, right. No. I’ll take my chances with Biden. I don’t agree with him on everything, but he seems to be an inherently decent man and that decency is what we need right now. That and someone who will do what he can to get this pandemic in hand.

      • Traveler says:

We can only move forward starting from a place of decency and compassion. We can work out our differences with civility and compromise later.

    • Christine says:

I’m from the midwest where we get both types of ads. Republican ads are cringe and obviously play up white fear. And they always feature one POC child looking sad. Just one.

  19. Cheryl says:

    Good luck from Canada, everyone!

  20. Leigh_S says:

If you know anything about Eminem, he 99% licensed that song after the MI Kidnapping plot as an F-You to the Orange Menace.

  21. PNWer says:

Sending you good vibes, our American friends! Gosh, we miss you!

  22. lemonylips says:

Sending good vibes to all of the American celebitchies! I hope to find you all here tomorrow happy, having a new POTUS!

  23. BearcatLawyer says:

WHO IS CUTTING ONIONS IN HERE? STOP IT!

    Praying so hard today…

  24. Katie says:

the eminem one is fire. good luck, everyone

  25. Dee Kay says:

Democracy lives or dies today. I’m so glad that millions of Americans are fighting to keep it alive.

  26. Kittylouise says:

Good luck to all American celebitches. I remember 4 years ago everyone voting for Hillary and being proud to do so, and the positive threads on here. And the despair afterwards.

Biden and Harris represent all that’s decent and positive about America and Americans. Please god they win the presidency and start to restore what seems like a frightening and fractured country.

Fingers crossed from over the Atlantic.

  27. Becky says:

Those are all great but the I got chills from the Taylor Swift one.

  28. Jaded says:

I got goosebumps watching those ads. I woke up in the middle of the night and prayed hard to the universe to bring Biden/Harris the win.

Good luck to all you American CBers from Canada and the rest of the sane Americans who desperately want and need this monster out on his ugly a$$.

  29. February-Pisces says:

Hello, I feel very nervous for my American friends here. I have all my fingers and toes crossed for all of you. I will be absolutely devastated if you know who gets re-elected. I’m afraid of what further damage he will do if he gets 4 more years. The last 4 years have been absolutely awful politically. The world has been divided and torn apart all because this man wants to feed his ego. I really hope and prey he is defeated tomorrow in the most humiliating way. All the best. X

  30. Scandi says:

I sit in Copenhagen, and I definitely believe I have something in my inner corner which makes my eyes water 🤪😭 Those ads are beautifully made.

  31. Milkweed says:

Thank you so much for posting these! I 🖤 the Eminem one so much. I wish it was longer!

  32. Honora says:

I have family members (whose opinions I trust) that know ( for decades) him, are in his community and love him.
I don’t like the recent thing about hunter in China but I’m going to try to be optimistic- he has lost 2 children, he doesn’t want problems for hunter or their relationship as hunter obviously has serious problems already. As long as there’s no China/Biden connection going forward it’s all good. I forgive all Trudeaus scandals too and try to put the Chinese fundraiser out of my mind. We don’t have infinite choices for leaders in North America so we have to accept and support the best possible choices.

  33. Pip says:

    Beautiful adverts.

Just know that there are millions of us across the world willing the Blue wave. We need this to happen. The whole world needs this to happen. Here in the UK, we need Biden to win – it will change our future too.

We’re thinking of you – I’ll be lying awake all night here listening to the coverage from the US. I lived there for years (in Colorado which seems certain to revert to its usual shade of blue) & feel so strongly for you all. Just vote. & know that millions of us are thinking of you all & willing the right result, from all over the globe.

    WIth love x

  34. Lola_Lola says:

This is such a beautiful thread! Thank you so much for all the well wishes from over seas! I am really confident Biden is going to win! Trump’s dirty tricks wont work. Biden is prepared for this. President Biden and Vice President Harris are going to move America forward!

  35. Sunniva says:

Best wishes from Oslo, Norway, guys. Hope we all wake up to a new and clown-free tomorrow. It`s been a long 4 years.

  36. Lady D says:

Hoping and praying the good guys win. I’m going to be chanting USA! all day tomorrow when Biden wins.

  37. Ana says:

    My USA friends,
I am praying with all of you for this nightmare to be over. I certainly believe justice and kindness has to win, and I believe there are more decent people than racists and Nazis among you. Hopefully the last 4 years were a terrible lesson for all of us, we have missed your leadership worldwide. Let tomorrow bring a new and capable President so change can begin, there is much to be done but I know you can do it all! I am with you and please take care of one another.

  38. Thirtynine says:

I really hope when Biden wins- and I’mcounting on it- that his team keeps putting out amazing ads like this for at least a year. They are so powerful and inspiration a l, and Ame r ica will need such healing, I really think to have this kind of ad out there encouraging citizens and communities to keep putting on the work together with him that will be needed to set Ame r ica back on its feet again. It would help to counterbalance all the hate comments and biased media, w hich aren’t going to go away. These ads lift America up.

  39. Grant says:

I voted two weeks ago for Biden/Harris. My husband voted today, also for Biden/Harris. I am … strangely not nearly as anxious as I was expecting. Perhaps because I can’t imagine feeling as lost and distraught as I did in 2016, no matter the outcome.

  40. I'm With The Band says:

Those ads are amazing. I’m on the other side of the world in Australia, and we are rooting for you, America. It’s astounding, and heart-warming, the number of people I know here in Oz who are hoping for a Biden/Harris win. Wishing you all the best 👍🏻🤞

  41. Blueskies says:

Sending love and perseverance to all our friends in the U.S. from Canada. We are with you and backing you as you hopefully alight from this burning ship to safe shores. <3

  42. L says:

😭 I love him so! I don’t him personally and probably never will, but I love him. He is my president! Joe Biden – Kamala Harris 2020

  43. Guest with Cat says:

Somebody on his campaign also made a brilliant Animal Crossing island. My daughter and I just spent the evening there while listening to election returns. Making this island was a cute way to campaign during the pandemic, due to so many of us turning to AC for safe amusement and comfort.

Come what may, they ran a campaign to be proud of. Unfortunately there’s such a deceptive undercurrent of bigotry in this country it is not going to be possible to reach everyone with even a modestly progressive platform. But I go to bed hoping to wake up to better news than four years ago.
