Was Lady Gaga pandering to rednecks with her camo-clad Biden endorsement?

Lady Gaga is a big Democrat, and she’s spent the last week making a final push for people in swing states to vote for Biden-Harris. She’s been doing a lot on social media, she campaigned alongside Joe Biden yesterday and last night, she was one of the performers at the Biden-Harris campaign’s final Election Eve rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She performed “Shallow” and some other songs, and she spoke throughout her set too.

I mean, it is what it is. I already voted for Joe and Kamala, so I’m not the target audience for this anyway? Who is she appealing to? Gay dudes in the industrial midwest? Sure! Let’s go with that! I felt the same way when Gaga was the Super Bowl Halftime act – like, what does that VENN diagram look like? What’s the overlap of “football fans” and “Gaga’s little monsters”? Most Gaga fans were already voting for Biden-Harris anyway, is what I’m saying.

Before Monday’s activities, Gaga posted all of this on her social media. They said she was pandering to rednecks, but guess what? Donald Trump panders to rednecks a lot worse than this.

Donald Trump was triggered by all of this, because he so desperately wants acceptance from cool celebrities. At his rally yesterday, he complained bitterly about all of the celebrities endorsing Biden and said: “Now he’s got Lady Gaga. I could tell you plenty of stories about Lady Gaga. I know a lot of stories about her.” Pa-thetic.

I think the target audience is white suburban women who listen to Gaga?

    • Sojaschnitzel says:

In belly-free camo though? I mean, I love camo and I wear it all the time, but.. that was… “an interesting fashion choice”, is what my boss would say 😀

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

She’s pandering to the same white wannabe-tough guys who wear camo to hunt color-blind deer, because they are idiots who just want the IMAGE of being tough without knowing what they’re really doing (real hunters wear orange because they’re not stupid). I suppose there may be a handful of those types that might vote democrat, maybe?

  2. Chelsey says:

Oof that was awkward. I love Gaga, but…I thought she was a better actress than that? Also, why waste the beer? Lol

  3. ItReallyIsYouNotMe says:

I don’t think that on election day Lady Gaga posing in this outfit is going to turn anyone’s head who has not already decided, but in the off chance that she turned someone for Biden more power to her.

Also, my daughter who is only seven is so into this election. We’ve been trying to keep most of this away from her but she’s hearing things at school and asking questions so we’re answering those questions. I was so proud when she told me that if Biden wins she wants to do a parade around the block drumming and chanting Biden’s name.

Anything to try to include and draw people TO the Democratic Party is good in my book. Are we really finding fault with her for this?

    • Mina_Esq says:

That’s amazing! Kids ARE getting involved! My friend’s 16 year old and all of her little friends (in Michigan) have been making calls for Biden for the past month. The funny part is that her dad is a big Trumper. I think he will secretly vote Biden but never admit it.

    • Wamama says:

That’s so great that you’re answering her questions and that she’s curious.

Our oldest is 8 yr old and is also surprisingly tuned in to all this. The other night she said “if I could vote, I would vote for Joe Biden. He’s just so much nicer. Also then the Vice President would be a GIRL.”

My husband is black and I am white, so I am very scared for the the future of our 3 non-white children. Praying so hard.

  4. Ann says:

I wish it was Taylor instead of Gaga for several reasons but I’m not mad at Gaga for this concert and I don’t care about her pandering. It was a political rally, of course she’s pandering. I’m just glad the group who got to see her got to see a megastar and hopefully enjoy themselves before we kick off civil war #2.

  5. HeatherC says:

So what if she was pandering to rednecks to vote for Biden/Harris? Rednecks vote too. Most likely she didn’t change any minds not in her demographic but good for her for trying.

    • Chill says:

      My thoughts exactly.

    • Esmom says:

Exactly. What has the entire Trump family been doing for the past five years if not pandering to a demographic they literally have never given a sh^t about?

I find Gaga pretty inauthentic at times but the Trumps may be among the most inauthentic people I’ve ever seen/heard.

    • Mac says:

Making fun of rednecks plays directly into the coastal elites talking point. She isn’t going to flip anyone leaning towards Trump with this video.

  6. Rae says:

If she brings in more votes, crack on!

    • Sigmund says:

My thoughts exactly. We’ll take all their votes — the rednecks, the Karens, whoever. Yes, conversations will need to be had after Biden wins, but right now, every vote added makes it harder for Trump to dispute the outcome.

  7. Lenn says:

    Is that not a Kardashian?

  8. Suz says:

I outlined this on D-listed yesterday so I’ll recap here what a dope Trump is:
    1. Does he actually think Biden would put Gaga on his cabinet?
    2. Artists Against Fracking was founded a decade ago by Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon and they already achieved their goal of banning fracking in the state of New York. New York. Not Pennsylvania.
In conclusion: Trump is a dope.

  9. Katie says:

That’s the one case when pandering is a good thing. IF THIS IS WHAT IT TAKES

  10. Dee Kay says:

I love that Gaga did this. Her GOTV video on Instagram is amazing. Go Gaga and even more importantly, go Biden-Harris!!!!

    • detritus says:

Im here for her using her platform for good.

      No snark.

She’s really seemed to take a look at herself and how her actions support systemic injustice after she was called out for that R Kelly, T Richardson mess. She’s supported Kesha and tons of other people and causes. It’s great, and I wish more celebrities used their platform like this.

  11. AnnaKist says:

I’m still awake, and watching our National broadcaster’s news channel. They just played the bit where he says he could tell them – his idiot acolytes – a lot about Lady Gaga. He is a filthy maggot. I detest him, and hope so much that today is the day he gets his comeuppance. His desire to win is surpassed only by his desire to not lose.

  12. MipMip says:

I love CB but have never commented before. I love the insight you all bring.

I wanted to add my perspective: I lived and voted in Pittsburgh during the last two presidential elections. Biden showed up at University of Pittsburgh for this event and ending his campaign there was very strategic. Pittsburgh has a lot of universities and therefore a high student population. U Pitt draws a lot of PA residents so campaigning here was a direct plea to young student voters. Gaga may not have been the best artist to bring but I see the intent.

On the 2016 election map Pittsburgh was a small speck of blue in a sea of red. Biden was probably hoping to get some extra support from the areas surrounding Pittsburgh but this was a direct appeal to Pittsburgh and it’s youth.
