Election Day Open Post: Hosted by a sliver of hope in the past four years

Here it is, our Election Day Open Post. I am going to try to avoid the news until the polls close. Before Election Day, more than 100 million Americans were able to vote early, in person or through absentee ballots. Meaning, it’s going to take a while to count those tens of millions of absentee ballots, and it might take a long damn time. I’ve been trying not to spin out on all of the crazy scenarios involving lawsuits and election fraud and all of that. I lived through the 2000 election as an organizer and I wept for days. I lived through the 2016 election and I wept for days, in between bouts of feeling completely numb. I think I’m still numb. And that’s okay. These four years have been horrific and it’s okay to be shell-shocked. It’s okay to still be mad at all of the ignorant, hateful, racist, bigoted, homophobic, violent, terrible people who support Donald Trump.

If you haven’t voted already and you’re reading this before the polls close, go and vote, damn it. Both sides are not the same. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I joked that the real October Surprise was that everyone had stories about how Joe Biden is a mensch. It’s true – people have been coming out the woodwork to speak about his decency, his kindness, his heart. He has a great political partner in Kamala Harris, someone who will pull him left of center on so many issues, and have so much sway in moving the country back to a proud democracy rather than a banana republic built to glorify a dim-witted dictator. I have hope. Let’s see if we can make it through this week.

CB & I will probably live-tweet some stuff tonight too – you can follow me at KaiseratCB and follow CB at Celebitchy.

I’m right there with you Kaiser! I just heard this song on my NPR station and had a good cleansing cry. Trying to hold on to my sliver of hope tonight.

  2. GR says:

I desperately hope that we will soon have competent adults in the WhiteHouse again.

  3. MaryContrary says:

Guys-I was nervous but now I am convinced: BLUE TSUNAMI. Did you see Trump speaking at his HQ earlier? He has seen their own internal polls-it’s over.

    • Diana says:

Please please please please please please!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

    • Size Does Matter says:

It would be kind of ironic if today’s tallies are so blatantly Biden that Trump has to hang his hope on the mail-ins.

      • Wow2 says:

Hahaha I’d actually like to see how he’d react to mail in saving his ass. Since you know, they’re so illegitimate and everything 🙄

      • cassandra says:

        This is my fantasy scenario

        I’m starting to feel…hopeful?

  4. Genuine Dinosaur says:

Sending America love and hope through these next few months. The world needs less fascists. Trump and his cronies have caused so much harm to America’s international reputation

  5. Rae says:

Checking in, nervously, from the UK.

I think the future of our country, as in the way we go forward, will be massively impacted by the result of tonight.

Plus, just as a human being who is sick of white supremacy bullshit, I am rooting for hope to prevail tonight.

  6. Lasagna_jones says:

Tentatively optimistic here. All the nerves.

  7. Case says:

I’m cautiously optimistic and hopeful. They’re expecting record voter turnout, which is historically good for Democrats. Here’s hoping, praying, good-vibing, etc.

  8. Bibi says:

crossing fingers for our US neighbors – a friend from Canada!

  9. Deeanna says:

I voted by mail weeks ago here in Pennsylvania. I am a Biden supporter. I am hoping for a clear cut victory. A landslide or a mini-landslide. Enough that it is very clear that trump has lost.

I noticed that melanie voted in person in Florida this morning. Of all days for her not to be at Orange Man’s side! It was announced weeks ago that trump had voted by absentee ballot. Meaning melanie deliberately didn’t?

Wonder if she voted for Joe?

    • Lady D says:

I remember the last time she voted, Trump was peering over her shoulder to see what ballot she had marked.

      • Meghan says:

That would piss me off. When I early voted and we were all socially distanced sitting in the church waiting the poll worker explained that all couples would be separated and she even said “because husbands like to look over and tell their wives who to vote for.”

    • Christin says:

And she reportedly was the only voter at the center not wearing a mask. It’s all about the catwalk.

      Birds of a feather…

  10. Nev says:

    Let’s do it!!!’

  11. Aidevee says:

Just saw trump on the telly, staggering through some trumpy office somewhere, full of staffers. He looked wrecked- I think he feels the writing’s on the wall. I hope!!!

  12. Catherine says:

Thanks Kaiser – you know I’m kicked off Twitter for life and all eternity but you keep me going. I’m hiding in my bedroom – from the baby and nanny – slow breathing in the dark 😂🤣😣😣😣😣😣 please deliver us from this evil. Please keep posting on Twitter, yours are the best.

This feels like mile 24 of a marathon- might be over soon! Or might learn that marathons are suddenly 52 miles 😭

  13. Paula says:

Good luck you guys. Here in Brazil we have our own Trump-loving fascist president and I’m praying a victory from Biden will start a domino effect that’ll stop this alt-right movement around the world.

    • Eve says:

      Fellow Brazilian here. Same feeling.

      • Syrah Eshghi says:

        Wonder what will happen tonight…

      • antipodean says:

Oh my goodness…Eve!!!! Where have you been? It is so good to see you here. Hope you are doing well and keeping your chin up. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that we will at last be delivered from this nightmare, and hope and kindness will be returned to this benighted land! I really don’t want to jinx anything though, it aint’ over ’till it’s over!

      • Capepopsie says:

Oh my goodness EVE! So happy to see you posting again. Totally agree with antipodean about your wellbeing.. ❤️

      • Eve says:

        @Antipodean:

        Hi dear!,

Well, I’ve fell into a really serious depression, worsened by the election of the monster we have for president and the disasters that followed (and there are still 2 more years to go). And the a**hole worships Trump.

So…basically, I’m just trying to stay alive. But I’m mentally and physically weak. There are days I simply cannot eat. Lost a ton of weight really fast.

Sorry for not having good news.

P.S.: Visited Celebitchy here and there and even have a new celebrity crush but didn’t feel like commenting.

      • Eve says:

*Screwed up my e-mail address and my ícone didn’t show up.*

        Antipodean:

        Thank you, Capepopsie!

        💞

      • Diana says:

Eve, I’ve long enjoyed your comments (ever since the Cumberbatch days and the drinks on the verandah!) and I’m so sorry to hear that Bolsonaro has had such a negative impact on your mental health. It’s a lot to bear and I wish you strength and hope through the next years. I’m Australian, and although we’re so lucky here to not have a fascist in power (SO lucky), it is demoralising seeing Bolsonaro’s deforestation of the Amazon, knowing that our country is going to continue suffering horrific bushfire as climate change accelerates. And literally everything else he’s doing is awful. All that to say, that although you and Brasil are hurting more than Australians, solidarity. We’re with you.

On another note… I would love to hear about your new celeb crush, if you have the energy to share!

      • Paula says:

Hi Eve, I’m so sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling well. The last two years have been a bit tough here too, I’ve been in therapy and I still have bursts of rage at my friends who sat out because they “couldn’t get themselves to vote Labour”. I hope at least you are surrounded by like-minded people, it helps to ease a bit the sadness and the anger. If you ever need to vent or gossip just reach out, I love meeting random brazilians in the corners of the internet 🙂 Take care :***

      • Eve says:

        @Diana:

I’d love to talk about my “known for quite some time/strangely becoming a crush only recently” too, but on a less tense thread. But here’s a funny fact: he’s born closer to you than me, he’s from New Zealand.

        @Paula:

Nobody close to me voted for Bolsonaro and if I know somebody I’m talking to voted for him I stop the conversation immediately.

I desperately need therapy too (besides going to a psychiatrist) but I’ve been resisting the idea — I have panic attacks and don’t want to leave the house.

      • Spicecake38 says:

        Wished you the best Eve!

      • Spicecake38 says:

        *wishing*I meant,darn auto correct!😘

      • Eve says:

        @Spicecake38:

        Thank you very much, dear.

      • Lightpurple says:

        Evelet!

      • antipodean says:

Dear Eve, just got back here today, and even though you sound to be struggling at least you are keeping your head above water, and plodding on, so well done you! I was so sad to see that Americans seem to have chosen evil yet again! It seems that they really do want this warped way of life, I simply cannot account for it! Interesting to see that you have found a fellow Kiwi to take notice of, we have some very talented chaps to follow for sure. It is always good to focus on things outside our front door, so to speak, and a new crush indicates that there are still things that can inspire hope, we have to cling to those! I would love to know the name if you feel like sharing, and maybe we can swoon together. Take care of yourself, and keep on keeping on.

    • Lili says:

Yes, if Biden wins I feel hope that the useless president we have will lose in 2022, if not I am deeply concerned

  14. delphi says:

Checking in from Kentucky…where I hope with what little of my dark dead soul is left that somehow we FINALLY rid ourselves and the world of Mitch McConnell. Please, whatever deity/deities you pray to or do not pray to, send us positive energy. Is Amy McGrath perfect? Hell no. But she might actually have a shot at unseating the Demon Turtle after so many years.

    #Biden/Harris2020 all the way!!!!!

    • Anna says:

Sending good wishes to you in Kentucky @delphi I’ve been following her campaign from afar and really like what I’ve heard. Sending all the positive energy!

    • MaryContrary says:

I saw Lincoln Project said their next target is Marco Rubio (and I think Tom Cotton.). I really want them going after Mitch McConnell. He is completely to blame for our Supreme Court.

    • Spicecake38 says:

Mitch McTurtle HAS to go …I’m so sick of him he’s as bad as Trump, sending Kentucky all the best from Ohio ❤️

    • delphi says:

I am sick right now. My wonderfully liberal county elected Trump by 86 votes…Kanye West got 87 votes. But at least McConnell lost here. He won the state (because the coal-minded folks still think he’s going to bring it back)…but at least Frankfort had a little sense.

I’m off to un-ironically drink vodka until I fall asleep. At least my parents’ home counties in Ohio seem to have turned blue after being red for ages. Thank you Lake and Summit Counties!!!!

  15. heygingersnaps says:

I’m not American, I live in the UK but I went to bed last night sick to my stomach as I saw a pastor who I knew share a link of an American “spiritual leader” basically throwing support for the orange turd and I just wanted to tear my hair out at the mental gymnastics that these people do to justify the corrupt and incompetence of the dump administration.
Wishing the best of luck to all Americans who are voting in the name of hope, decency, equality and honesty. As Tracy Chapman sung, talking bout a revolution, I hope the tables are finally starting to turn.

  16. Rapunzel says:

Was nearly run off road by huge piece of farm equipment with Trump flag today. I’m scared of my neighbors. For real. And I’m in CA.

But good omen: my garbage got taken out today. Hoping the white house garbage follows suit.

  17. Rapunzel says:

Another good omen: Trump apparently cut the guest list to his party tonight… by 150 people.

  18. Katie says:

All the stress Halloween candy eating here in PA.

    • Fleur says:

YES! me too! I’m in a swing state, stress-eating the heck out of everything sugar based in my house. I’m fearful and probably not as optimistic as many here, but I’m going to watch comfort tv until 10 or 11 PM and hope for the best…

  19. QuietCanuk says:

As a dual citizen im happy to put if out there that my mail in vote for Joe and Kamala has been sent for a couple weeks now. Please let this happen!!

  20. Juls says:

Kaiser, I just want to take a moment to say, whatever happens, I am eternally grateful to you for almost 5 years of excellent coverage. Your posts about our living nightmare, along with the fabulous comments from my fellow Celebitches over the years, have kept me sane. I start and end my day at this site. I love you all and I feel so happy to have this family and safe space. Oh, and thanks for keeping the trolls out. Everybody stay safe and healthy! Hugs!

    • Olive Malone says:

Me too! I hardly comment, everyone says it for me. This site feels like my safe haven in the world – where I learn, vent, cry, and laugh. Thank you all!

Come on Joe, let’s do this!

    • Berlin says:

Me too! This has been my safe space and my home for when I am depressed or sad or anxious. Celebitchy always makes me feel better and more importantly it makes me feel connected to all the fabulous commenters on here. They are truly the best ever anywhere.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

Here, here — many thanks to Kaiser for giving us a place to go at times like this. Well, okay, let’s face it — there ARE no other times like this. Nothing in the public life of America has ever felt quite this dire. Never before have I thought our democracy was actually in jeopardy. And I think it says a lot that so many of us have settled here to see out this night together.

    • Traveler says:

Juls, I want to second your comments!
Who knew that a gossip site would be the thing that kept me from a total collapse into despair. The intelligent, on-point writing (& world class snark) of Kaiser, Celebitchy, and the rest of the incredibly smart and compassionate celebitchy community from all over the world gave me hope that there were so many good people still out there.
Many, many thanks…………and may our dreams come true.

    • ATLMathMom says:

Ditto! I found this site when I was looking for Twilight scoop (don’t judge lol). And I stayed for the excellent political coverage. Thank you!

      • Juls says:

No shame here. I found this site 10 years ago when I was enthralled by Leann Rhymes and all her shenanigans. To each their own!

      • elle says:

@Juls – same for me, back when I thought that was as crazy as people could get. May we return to such days.

    • lanne says:

Yes thank you Kaiser! I’m sick with fear. I want to throw up. Thank you for this haven in these dark times. In 2008 I was nervous with hope. Now I’m completely flattened by fear. To go from an America I was proud of to an America I’m afraid of has been so demoralizing.

    • Christin says:

Remember the early days when obvious trolls would chastise for covering politics on a celebrity site? He was a reality show host who had been in tabloids for years.

Thanks for allowing us to interact with people from so many corners of the globe and gaining understanding along the way. My eyes have been opened in many ways.

    • Fleur says:

Celebitchy has been my only news source for the past four and a half years. Seriously. I can’t stand reading anyone else’s political coverage while this megalomaniac is in power.

    • notasugarhere says:

Yes, Kaiser, CB, Hecate, all of you are helping to keep the sane in some of us. So grateful.

    • Nev says:

      WORD UP.

      • Exactly says:

        PREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEACH👏🏽👌🏽🧠🙏🏽♥️😍❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

    • Nina Simone says:

@Juls – totally! Thanks for starting this thread. Kaiser you’ve been a rockstar and kept me sane and updated in the past 4 years. I’ve also felt a kinship with you ladies.

Hoping for a Biden win tonight, race is much closer than expected but I choose to still
      HOPE

    • ElleV says:

Cheers to that sentiment! I rarely comment but I’ve been a daily visitor since way back and I am so, so grateful to you all for the snark, silliness, distractions and discourse we’ve shared over the years. The funny, insightful posts and comments here have been a bright thread I’ve followed through some of the darkest moments of my life. Lighting a candle tonight for a brighter world tomorrow – come what may, we’ll get there together!

    • JanetDR says:

Absolutely Kaiser! Your posts are where I turn first in the morning to see what that orange horror was up to in the night. I can’t take it straight from a news show! And also thank you to my fellow commentators! And the support from other countries is so heartening 💗

    • Genuine Dinosaur says:

I’m following the Australian ABC Antony Greens coverage. Trump has won Ohio again.

I’m so sorry America. And to the lovely people on this site, I’m aching for you.

  21. Izzy says:

If you haven’t voted by now, then don’t you utter a word of complaint later, not even if you get the damn Rona. You should have voted like your life depends on it, because it does.

I need several drinks right now please. November 3rd is gonna be a hella long year.

    • Gutterflower says:

Omg if someone hasn’t voted give me your damn vote!! I’m Canadian so I can’t but go vote Biden!!!!

    • Truthiness says:

I live in a blue area of a blue state. Nothing to worry about? I stood in line, in the freaking rain, to make sure I voted in person, and early. It’s midnight and I have to try and sleep. The next few days are going to be the longest.

  22. dawnchild says:

Our two Biden/Harris (Philadelphia) votes in and marked received. I can’t vote because the fackers who run the show have slow-walked my citizenship application (the easiest possible in the world, filed well in time last year). My kid is counting ballots tonight in the Philly Convention Center till 6 am…so proud of her. Her day job is calling Covid positives all day long. What a nightmare this all is…

Thanks to this community for keeping me sane, no matter what happens.
Missing Jerusha from Alabama…hope she’s ok!

    • fluffy_bunny says:

What the hell is up with Trump saying shady stuff happens in Philly. I think someone needs to sic Gritty on him. That meth muppet would fuck him up.

    • Lady D says:

Missing Jerusha too. Also hope she’s doing okay and this election turns out her way.

  23. Mrs. Smith says:

My parents are Trump supporters. I’m aghast and always have been since they are otherwise (?) normal? It’s been a friendly (?) spar the last 4 years. I cannot pray hard enough that it ends NOW. Will be watching this space and Twitter for Kaiser and CB this evening.

  24. FHMom says:

Took a nap earlier so that I can stay up late. Hoping for an end to this sh*tshow.

  25. MsIam says:

Voted a couple of weeks ago. Blue all the way down the ballot. Here’s hoping and praying for good things tonight! Freedom!!!

  26. Becks1 says:

Can we take a moment to appreciate that Marco Rubio tweeted a picture of a blue wave LOL 🤣🤣

    • SpankyB says:

Wasn’t that funny! I kept looking at it think I had to be missing something. Nope, just a perfect self-own. LOL

  27. RoyalBlue says:

i’m just here to lend support to my fellow celebitchies. right here with you hoping for the blue WAVE.

  28. Becks1 says:

I’m weirdly optimistic now. Earlier I was very stressed and anxious and now I’m feeling hopeful. But I keep remembering how I felt in 2016 so I’m trying to temper my expectations.

    • Becks1 says:

Now I’m watching MSNBC and I’m not feeling optimistic anymore. Fuck. I should just hold off for another hour or so to watch any of the results.

      • Case says:

I’m mad at myself. I know my social media is somewhat of an echo chamber, all liberals, but I really had so much hope it would be a total landslide for Biden. It really seemed like a possibility, and I assumed the Trumpsters on social media were loud but not as common. I guess not. Disappointing.

If Trump wins again…we’re never going to get out from this pandemic. I can’t understand how many people weren’t voting with the pandemic in mind.

  29. Leah says:

Feeling hopeful but I’m still cautious . 2016 was such a painful lesson and I don’t want to be so sure like that again. I voted a few weeks ago and it’s already been counted so it’s just watch and wait. Heard that a judge has ordered the USPS to find and pick up all the ballots they had laying around and to deliver them properly. Good. No more cheating and no more lying.

  30. Busyann says:

Teehee heee Trump cut the size of his White House party from 400 to 250ish. Whomp whomp.

    • Sigmund says:

Does he still have the party if he loses? Genuine question. I don’t really understand what it means that he cut down the guest list.

    • Becks1 says:

He also canceled an interview tonight at 6. I think their internal polling must be REALLY bad.

      • Ellie says:

I really wonder what that all means? I thought that even if (or ESPECIALLY if) he was losing, he’d want to do interviews to rev up his nazis and promote the fact that this election is a “hoax”. Hmm.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

He cancelled a scheduled interview when polls were still open and he could influence the vote? That’s super weird.

  31. H says:

I’m high as f*ck as I had extensive dental work today. I wish I could drink. I am hopeful. If it goes south my Plan B goes into effect and I will leave the US for a few years. Unless we take the Senate, then I can’t wait for Trump to be a lame duck for 4 years.

Praying that Graham, Gardner, McSally, Collins and if there is a G-d, McConnell goes down in flames.

    • Lola Coasters says:

I am also high as f**k, but that is because I have decided that cannabis, homemade Mac and cheese, pop tarts and this site will be the way I am coping with the election. I just cried in the kitchen when I saw the Indiana results. WTAF? Sending love from Canada! I hope you are feeling okay from your dental work H!

    • Lizzie says:

      That is also my prayer.

  32. Eve says:

    Wrong spot.

  33. Kerenza says:

Wishing you all the best of luck with displacing that hideous narcissist and his criminal, amoral cronies. I’m in the UK but couldn’t take another 4 years of it nevertheless. Genuinely feel my mental health has taken a beating since 2016 and it must be so much worse for you guys. And I’ve seen Trumpism gain more of a hold here too – with mini Trump Boris in government alongside ghouls like Jacob Rees Mogg. Thank you Celebitchy and all the Celebitches for reminding me everyday that there is hope, compassion and decency in the US. Not just MAGA hatefulness and bigotry that at times has felt overwhelming. Bring on the blue wave!

  34. Lilitel says:

I’m very very scared but convinced that the orange assh*le is going to win :'( :'(
    Stay strong guys.

  35. RoyalBlue says:

    16-13 so far. Still early,

  36. Berlin says:

Trump is going to win Florida. Damn. NYT calls it a 95 percent chance.

  37. RoyalBlue says:

come on…take the senate and the house!

  38. Mimi says:

I’m so anxiety ridden plz Biden win plz

  39. Case says:

This is closer than I’d like so far, which is…really disappointing. I’m really hoping Biden can take Ohio and some other battleground states. We need a big win or Trump will try to steal this.

    • Becks1 says:

I feel like it always starts off really close bc of the south. Don’t forget NY hasn’t closed yet and none of the big Midwest states have. Plus the west coast.

      But still. Shit. I’m worried.

      • Case says:

You’re right! It’s still so early and so hard to tell. I was just really hoping we could pull off Florida!

  40. PixiePaperdroll says:

Hillary lost Michigan by about 11,000 votes. We had 13,000 people register to vote in Detroit TODAY. This makes me feel better.

  41. Nev says:

Hold on folks. Don’t let go!!

  42. Sinéad says:

Holy sh1t!!!! Texas is turning BLUE 👏👏👏🙌

  43. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

How’s it going over there? I may not respond but I am following. Please note this was written over a 3 hour period while doing legit work. I wish I could be more present with you lovely ladies, wishing for the best. Will update as long as possible. I need a break.

I’m actually helping to cover “Reuters wires” out of Washington DC tonight with my husband being tasked to cover AP and then I translate from English into Danish, German, and French. He can translate French, Afrikaans, and Italian. It’s a profitable side business. It’s almost 3 AM here. I’ve given up on keeping pace. My heart may explode before my shift is over at 9 if I don’t lay off the caffeine. Why am I doing this?!

Will work every fiber of what tiny shred of status and privilege I don’t have towards setting up a Euro Celebitchy refugee camp if things go sideways.

    😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

  44. Case says:

    Mitch McConnell won Kentucky.

  45. Nina Simone says:

How is this even close?! There are 230,000 people dead and counting?!

Early Thoughts: looks like white women are holding strong for Trump, the Latino vote didn’t really come out for Biden and the polls are trash again

    • ElleV says:

It’s sickening how close this is

    • Case says:

It’s embarrassing, isn’t it? I thought this would be a landslide. So far, looking much closer. That’s incredibly disappointing to not see a wide rejection of Trump.

      • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

290 to 248 is my electoral count is my personal “I have a degree in political science and I want to pretend like I can keep up with American politics (I cannot)” prediction. It will be close Biden will win.

    • SnowQueenM says:

Biden lost a huge chunk of the Miami Cuban vote to Trump. I live near there, and I wish I could say I was surprised. 🥺😒

      • goofpuff says:

It just frustrates me when the candidate is a clearly a racist and he doesn’t care if you’re here legally or illegally, he’ll still treat you the same (like trash). And yet everyone comes out for him (and I’m speaking about all the immigrants that voted for Trump) thinking that somehow that will make the immune from the new Racist Republican agenda?

I feel this from within my own POC population too an its just so frustrating.

      • Miumiiiu says:

Are most Cubans one issue voters? “ the other party is less hostile towards my home country where bad stuff happened to me” kind of seems like an inconsequential way to vote. Yes it’s human to want revenge and got to the enemy of your enemy. However, it’s not as if the republicans do anything to help suffering Cubans. Nothing much seems to be happening either way so what about the other issues?!?!

  46. Nina Simone says:

How is this even close?! There are 230,000 people dead and counting?!

Early Thoughts: looks like white women are holding strong for Trump, the Latino vote didn’t really come out for Biden and the polls are trash again

  47. PippiLongdivision says:

I mostly lurk – I did for years before I ever commented – but I just want to say a HUGE thank you to Kaiser, Celebitchy, Hecate, Oya, and all you wonderful Celebitches for being a source of laughter, strength, truth, and respite in a scary and insane time. I wish all of you peace and power and small joys and whatever else you need. Ok, now I’m going for my quick hourly anxiety-cry, and then back to baking and strictly regulated numbers checks. Love to you all!

  48. Kale David says:

Sadly, I’m starting to get the a case of 2016 panick. Not looking that great…

  49. JT says:

I don’t know if this has been posted yet but if you google “election results #election2020” you get live updates with having to watch the news.

  50. Nothankyou says:

Writing in from Australia. Every person I know on tenterhooks here watching and waiting. Praying for a Biden win.

  51. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I haven’t been able to click on election news because I’m frakking nervous af. I actually clicked for a few headlines then closed the app like a dweeb. As if quick glances would tell me anything. I sat down with an unopened box of graham crackers and I only have two left. How the frak did THAT happen? Thanks CB for being such a safe haven tonight (and our last for years of pure evil incarnate).

  52. Sam the Pink says:

Well the Senate thus far isn’t looking too hot. McConnell easily swats off McGrath, and GOP picks up one (Tuberville beats Jones in Alabama). Let’s see what happens to Lindsey Graham.

EDIT: QAnon is going to Congress, Marjorie Taylor won. But at least Laura Loomer didn’t.

  53. Berlin says:

I do not understand how anyone can vote for Trump. I have given up trying to understand. Intellectually I know that most of his cult are not critical thinkers or they are one-issue voters and to hell with the big picture, our democracy, and our future as a country
It just makes me so sad America has become this awful divisive country where people are actually gleeful to hate the ‘other’ and demonize everyone who is not on their ‘side’. WTF? Seriously leaving if he wins. Canada or Croatia or Lisbon. More than anything else the emotion that runs through me is sadness now. And despair over what we have become of the US because no matter what Trumpism is here to stay and it will take years to repair his damage.

  54. Leah says:

There are apparently three states in the northeast that Trump won narrowly in 2016, these three states could decide the next four years. As for Florida, I never thought that it would ever turn blue. The Cubans are still backing Trump. I guess they’ve forgotten their own situation in the 70’s/80’s when they were in the same boat (literally) as the migrants. They should be careful because Trump wouldn’t think twice about deporting them seeing as he’s done that to others. The USPS is withholding ballots in Miami so I’d like to see those counted.

I have high hopes for Arizona and Texas as a lot of Californians have moved there so ya know…the blue spreads all over the place.

Also, how can it be so close? After all that’s happened, economic crash, a plague, and every hellish thing ever and that was just this year. I don’t understand it. I am starting to get a headache again.

  55. Jayna says:

I’ve been saying Florida was Trump. Biden’s lack of ground game as far as Latino and black voter outreach and turnout in Miami-Dade made. me furious and angst ridden. You can’t do all of that virtual and digital. Latino voter groups said this was going to happen. There were ways to support this safely and put people on the ground in communities.

Pennsylvania was the same thing, all virtual. Trump had strong. voter outreach going and in place for a long time.. Dem community groups were begging Biden’s campaign to have more of a physical presence. Then Biden’s comment in the debate. Pennsylvania rallies for Trump has been massive. I’ve been saying Pennsylvania will go Trump. I’m angry. I’m angry at Americans. Trump is going to win.

  56. Jack says:

    Lindsay Graham won – dammit!!!!

Texas is now leaning red; John Cornyn won his senate seat. Dan Crenshaw is winning.

I’m so worried about all of this!

  57. CityGirl says:

I’m going to lose my ever loving mind

  58. EviesMom says:

Sweet baby J – what is happening here?!? I can barely look at CNN! Why is this even close?!? 😭

  59. Kkat says:

Well this isn’t looking that great

  60. Rise & Shine says:

Yes Kaiser, a sliver and glimmer of hope. All we can do now, after speaking out and voting is wait. We have done all that we can do (thank you all here 🙂 and I so hope that we win this. Understandably, our emotions all over the place, but hold on all, ain’t over til it’s over. Can not believe it is even so close. We just can’t have another 4 years of the TrumpKushners, we just can’t. It will get, yes, again, even worse if we do. So best to all, and oh yeah, it is going to be a long night, long day tomorrow. May be for a while. Thank you for the link CB and Kaiser and may TRUE BLUE all the way through win it for us. LOVE.

  61. Browning says:

Long time CB enthusiast, first time commenter. This site has always been a fave, but even more so during the past 4 years of this shitstorm.

Thank you for having an open post tonight. Not surprising, but still appreciated. I’m over here in CA, glad to be surrounded by mostly non-Trumpers, but still knowing there are large clusters within a 10-mile drive (probably less). Partner and I have seriously been discussing a US exit the last few months after chickening out in 2016. My anxiety is through the roof right now. Hugs to all you CBers that have provided a source of comfort for the last decade…

  62. Whatever says:

It’s not looking good. I am so sad right now.

  63. ILoveMusic says:

My first time commenting. Right now I am physically ill watching the results. All I can do is hope and pray that the mail in ballots pull Biden over the top. How on earth ANYONE who is a decent person can support the orange carrot is beyond me. I was cautiously optimistic and visualizing a good clean Biden win, now I don’t care. He just needs to win. I live right in the middle of dump country and I don’t think I can take four more years here if he wins. If you aren’t 100% for him, then you are a leftist. This is getting too long, but I’m so scared and angry!!!!!!!

  64. Jade says:

Also on tenderhooks watching from Australia. I’m sad that there is no landslide. I am still hopeful. I have no drink in the house and edibles aren’t readaily available
    Come on America

  65. Mel says:

Oh my god! What is happening? So close.

  66. Blair Warner says:

I truly cannot believe how close the results are … it’s shocking. This is devastating for the US and the world.

  67. waitwhat says:

I’m in AZ … trying to go to bed since my first meeting starts at 5:45 am. According to the maps I’m seeing, it’s slipping away again. Only AZ and ME look like they’re going to go blue and that’s not enough. I swear to God I cannot do another four years of this. Oh celebitches…I’m not hopeful.

  68. Ms. says:

I feel sick. I’ve been wrecked all night.

The sadness I feel at even having things be this close is unspeakable.

  69. Blair Warner says:

Van Jones on CNN is speaking about the political victory, which may still be possible for Biden – though democrats and progressives were expecting a decisive moral victory and strong repudiation of Trump that did not materialize. It’s the most clear commentary I’ve heard all night. As an outsider looking in, I am baffled and feeling despair for us all.
Thank you Celebitchy for providing this forum, an oasis of sanity within chaos.

  70. Eve says:

It’s too close. I’m nervous now.

  71. Sando says:

Going right down to the wire and then into the courts.

  72. Schade says:

    Too close to call.

  73. Lemons says:

The fact that this is so close is disheartening.

  74. SnowQueenM says:

Maybe GA goes blue… But, looking at the tentative demos from NYT, Hispanic voters swung hard R this election, all across country. There wasn’t as much support from POC, as well, to counter the rural voters. Overall, it looks like seniors and whites without college degrees generally broke Biden. But the college educated went for Trump.

Again, tentative demos. The Hispanic shift is not unexpected, tbh. I live near Miami and the population there can be very religious, anti-abortion, hard on immigration, anti-LGBT, etc.

  75. Anna says:

Hi, I said a few times I’m from the UK. I spent yesterday wrecked with nerves and I deep prayers for Joe Biden to win. I could barely sleep last night as my thoughts were with you all and I kept checking my phones for any news.
A few months ago I had such a vivid dream that Joe Biden won and I was invited to his party. Normally I take my dream as premonition as things usually come true. But right now I have tears in my eyes and I feel I’m in a nightmare.

  76. BnLurkN4eva says:

We shouldn’t be shocked at these results and how close this will end up being, a large percentage of Americans are racist, stupid and greedy how could it end any other way.
