Joe Biden wins Pennsylvania, will be the 46th President of the United States

Biden Addresses the Nation

Even though most of us of have known for days that Joe Biden is the next President of the United States, the official call was delayed by most media outlets for various reasons, mostly mathematical reasons about the percentage of vote won by Mr. Joe Biden in various states. Well, Pennsylvania released a new batch of numbers this morning and those votes earned the Biden-Harris ticket the required threshold. Media outlets suddenly declared that Joe Biden had won Pennsylvania, and with that, the presidency.

President-Elect Biden will be the 46th president of the United States. Vice-President Kamala Harris is the first woman to even WIN on a national ticket, and she will be the highest-ranking woman in national office in our nation’s history. She’s also the first Black woman and the first Indian-American woman to serve as VP. It’s truly remarkable and I’m tearing up at the thought of what this means to those two communities.

After the call was made, President-Elect Biden made a brief statement:

With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.”

[From The NY Times]

Ten months ago, I wasn’t jazzed about Biden’s candidacy, but as 2020 really destroyed what was left of our collective sanity, Biden’s candidacy grew on me so much. Every day, we saw the cruelty, the childishness, the fascism of the Trump administration, and it made Joe’s kindness, his decency, his civility and his humility in the face of unspeakable tragedy stand out all the more. I’m so happy and I’m so proud of the 75 million-plus Americans who voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

President-Elect Biden will address the country at 8pm EST tonight, and I’m sure there will be so many parties and dancing and drinking. Wear a mask!

You did it, America! Lots of love from Canada.

    • clomo says:

My best day in years! Kamala, my Trojan horse hero, and I mean that in the most honorable way, Joe knows the planet needs her ideas and they will go about it so well, so positive. YAY!!!!!!!!!!! Joe held it together so well and I’m am so happy he told trump to shut up on a national stage because he needed it so bad and Joe is so sweet usually. To overcome so much in his life, stuttering in and of itself is amazing, a parallelizing thing to be cursed with, I have family members who have struggled with it their whole lives. But the best, trump is no longer powerful, that was a scary 4 years. Joe loves his wife and children the tragedies he has suffered only made him a better man, so proud, yes, old and white and man but he choose Kamala which is genius of him. I might end them a letter of thanks and ask about things I can do to help them, my child just flew the coop so I have a lot of spare time.

      • AB says:

@Clomo – I could not have said it better! Joe’s trial and tribulations have made him a better man. He reminds me of David Copperfield and Oliver Twist and very proud of Kamala too. As a woman originally from India and who adopted her beloved USA as her home, its been a happy day!

    • Virginia says:

You did it America!!! We Canadians are proud of you!!! 🇺🇸 🇨🇦

Félicitation !!! The rest of the world is celebrating with you. We are so happy to see the return of kindness, decency and civility

  6. Becks1 says:

YAY!!!! We knew it was coming but the confirmation is such a relief. Congratulations to the president elect and the VP elect.

  7. Browning says:

I’ve been crying tears of joy and relief all morning.

    • Dazed and Confused says:

Me too. Tears of joy and relief.

    • Kristin says:

      Same – crying and dancing!

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

Obama was a celebration, but this is a relief. All the tears of relief trumps reign of terror has an end in sight. So many things to be relieved and thankful for.🥳🥳🥳

      • Emma33 says:

You’re so right – I remember Obama winning (I’m Australian), and my African boyfriend ringing me and saying “There’s a brother in the White House!!’, it was just such a celebration. This, of course, is much different, you just feel like this horrible curse has been lifted. But, when a person like Trump leaves a position of power there is always so much damage to be dealt with. But, huge congrats to all you celebitchies in the US. You did it!

    • Lauri says:

      Me too!

  8. MF says:

So much joy!!! So very proud to have voted for the first VP that’s a woman, South Asian, and Black

    • GuestWithCat says:

      Amen!

    • ItReallyIsYou,NotMe k8 says:

I’ve been so afraid to celebrate for fear of jinxing Biden’s win, that it only occurred to me about 5 minutes ago that we actually have our 1st female woman of color as vice president. We have a long long long way to go, but this is a new world because even 10 years ago just would not have happened.

      • Truthiness says:

It occurred to me right away. That glass ceiling is in a million pieces on the floor right now and I could not be happier. I was not thrilled until Kamala joined the ticket, the wisdom of that choice meant everything to me. She is immensely qualified and representation matters. IT MATTERS.

      • Nikki* says:

I also was afraid to jinx a thing, but now am THRILLED, and so very thrilled w/ Kamala as VP!!

    • KC says:

1-I am overjoyed to see democracy prove to still work in this country and the hope that gives Americans. Congratulations on another democratic election, America!
2-I’m all the more convinced slow Nv was a concerted effort to let PA be the one to usher in Biden’s presidency.
3-As a foreign, black, female living and working in the US while it’s great to see the country come this far, it was a tight battle. Remember, Obama’s presidency didn’t mean the end of racism, things got more turbulent and the backlash exposed it. A woman as VP doesn’t automatically mean things will now be fair and equal for women in this country. These are great steps but the work still needs to be done. Expect obstacles, and battles ahead. Stay hopeful. Be kind.

      • ItReallyIsYou,NotMe k8 says:

@KC I agree with everything you say here. Thus is the beginning of a road to WOC being on more equal footing, but I don’t think we will see the end of racism in our lifetimes. This is the start to a story, not the conclusion.

      • Mc says:

Same! So afraid of jinxing because who knows what could happen over the next few weeks. But I’m happy I guess. Still really disheartened that over 70 million people voted for trump.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

@KC I agree, but I also think that the other states were slowing to allow PA to get there first. I think they all were waiting for the weekend so that the Orange terror would have to wait for Monday to file anymore lawsuits. I believe Biden has a real chance to start getting this Country united, but he’s got an uphill battle with the haters. I can’t believe this is where the US is today–it’s like the last 50-60 years hasn’t really been moving forward. It’ll take everyone of us to start fixing the problems, but we will ultimately get there. That’s what democracy is.

    • Traveler says:

      I couldn’t agree more!
Congratulations Vice President Elect Kamala Harris!

  9. Jaded says:

Congratulations America from your Canadian friends and allies!!!

  10. GuestWithCat says:

Just breathe. It feels good. Lol I’m going to their Animal Crossing island to celebrate.

    • Nikki* says:

At a party tonight, it was amazing how several people all said they felt like they could BREATHE again, or a like a heavy weight was off them now…HOORAY!!

      • Other Renee says:

Nikki, those were the EXACT words I’ve been using about myself. That is exactly how I feel. I feel like a weight has been sitting on my chest, a weight of anxiety and dread and now it’s been lifted and I can breathe. Finally there’s hope!

  11. TheOriginalMia says:

I just burst into tears again reading this. Our long national nightmare is over. Goodness and decency. Diversity and inclusion. All are back on the table. I feel hopeful again. To see Kamala up there is profound. A black woman is VP. A black woman, an Indian-American woman, a daughter of immigrants is the VP of the United States. I am overwhelmed with pride and love for this country that doesn’t always love me back. We did it!

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Being mixed race myself, it means SO MUCH to me that the first woman to hold the second-highest office in the USA is black, Asian, and a first-generation American. I did not have role models like Vice President Harris when I was a little girl. But today’s girls now have a concrete example that they deserve and can take their seats at the table.

      • Anners says:

This ^^ so much this!!! I’m so happy for America, but especially for little girls all the world over, particularly those of colour, to see themselves represented in the highest echelons of government. I’m so glad that 2020 is redeeming itself, afterall. Crying tears of joy here in Canada for you and the rest of the world 💛

      • Nikki* says:

I’m so old, to see ANY WOMAN as a Vice President is amazing!!!! But you are so right: to see a deserving black Asian woman in the White House is fantastic.

  12. Charfromdarock says:

I am so happy and relieved for Americans.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

Thank you. And honestly, after how Trump treated our allies, I’m just happy for the world.

  13. Desdemona says:

Congratulations from Europe!! I was so anxious!! Good news at last!!

  14. Nicole Mischler says:

    YAYYYY. So happy and relieved.

  15. Jayna says:

Van Jones’ reaction was so beautiful and heartfelt and tested me up. I feel so emotional right now.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eMoCW1Pq54

    • Traveler says:

Thanks so much for that link, Jayna. His words were so true and so moving. It’s like we are all allowed to exhale now after four long years holding our breath.

    • Truthiness says:

I feel like a 280 pound weight has been lifted off my chest

    • K.T says:

Congrats US celebrationiches!!! Finally a hard fought win for real democracy – so many heroes like Stacey Abrams & many other black and poc. Heart bursts!!
Still, Van Jones, for all his pretty words, has been a snake for Trump & then a shill talking head. I’m still salty at all these slytherins

  16. Kinsley says:

So Kamala Harris is going to be the first woman president!! WOW!! I didn’t see that coming!! I’m not american, so I’m not emotional invested in this!!

    • Larelyn says:

She will be the first woman Vice-president. She’s second to Biden’s first. Now, if anything happens to Biden where he cannot perform his duties, she will assume the role of President. This is the closest a woman will ever be to the presidency. Currently, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is third in line after VP Pence and lame duck President Trump.

  17. tempest prognosticator says:

Hell yes!!! My neighborhood erupted with cheers , honking, and clapping. I cried like a baby, I’m just so relieved.

  18. Rivkaj says:

    YAY!!!

  19. ce says:

    AHHHHHHHHH!!! Yessssssss!!!

  20. Jayna says:

Van Jones’ reaction was so beautiful and heartfelt and teared me up. I feel so emotional right now.

  21. Sofia says:

YES! IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU GUYS

  22. Nic919 says:

Such great news and a huge sigh of relief from North of the border.

  23. Anna says:

I’m ecstatic for all my American friends. I wish I could there be at all the street parties. xx

  24. ME says:

Historical win ! Thank you to everyone that voted for Biden/Harris. I can’t wait to see Trump pack up his sh*t and get the f*ck out !!!!

    • Lady D says:

He’s going to sneak out in the middle of the night like the rat he is.

      • Atorontogal says:

That’s what I said. No way he will concede and give a speech or stand on the steps of the WH smiling and congratulating Biden. He and the wife will skulk off when no one is looking.

    • Mia says:

I can’t wait to see him dragged out kicking and screaming.

  25. Insomniac says:

So jealous of the people living in big cities who are dancing in the streets right now. If I did that in my semi-red neighborhood I’d probably get shot. 🙁

I am so, so happy and relieved. And I’m wishing the best for Joe and Kamala, because damn, do they have a hell of a mess to clean up. What a great, sunny day.

    • embrat says:

      same!

    • Browning says:

Yes!! In this “shithole city” of Oakland, people have been honking and cheering all morning. Joy and laughter and relief as lots of masked people from all different backgrounds celebrate down by the lake. More tears of joy and pride to see this side of America out in full force.

    • Christin says:

I would love to be dancing in the street, too, but I have the same issue as @Insomniac. We’ll settle for the immense sense of relief that sanity, competence and empathy have prevailed.

  26. Nina Simone says:

We did it!! So so proud of us. I can’t stop crying.

  27. Lucy2 says:

    Finally.
This is a very good day for the country, and the world.

  28. Johanna says:

Canadians are celebrating with you! You did it!!

  29. Traveler says:

    I am ecstatic!!!
Congratulations to President Elect Joe Biden and VP Elect Kamala Harris………………….I can’t say it enough.
Thanks to every single person who helped make this happen.

My niece in Chicago tells me there is honking and fireworks going on there! Wish I could be there to see the celebrations in the streets.

  30. Sean says:

Such excellent news on a beautiful Saturday!

Now, who wants to take bets the Trumps will attempt to flee America before January?

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

@Sean I agree with you. He’s not going to stick around and wait to be arrested. I haven’t heard anything recently from New York, but I believe they’ve been crossing their “Ts” and dotting their “Is” with the legal case they’re building. Trump knows that. It’ll be interesting to see when he decamps.

    • notasugarhere says:

The Saudis or UAE will send a private jet to evacuate the entire crooked clan to a non-extradition country. They might set up shop in the same Abu Dhabi hotel as the ex-king of Spain.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

@nota I would like to see that happen–can you imagine what his supporters would think then?

      • Silent Star says:

I don’t think any other country is going to rescue DJT. He has no money and no more power. He doesn’t even understand the state secrets he may have have been privy to, so he can’t sell those. They know he’s a self serving pathological liar, so they wouldn’t trust anything he he tells them anyway. DJT has nothing they could want. Ditto his dim sons.

I do worry about Jared and Ivanka finding refuge overseas though. They absolutely cannot be permitted to leave the country.

  31. SpankyB says:

This dragged out for so long, even though we assumed he was going to win, that I was afraid when it was finally announced it would be anti-climatic. I was wrong.

What got me tearing up most is listening to the people of NY and SF shouting in the streets. Who knew so many people had cowbells. lol

Huge sense of relief. But now we have to wait and see what bullshit Trump comes up with. Hopefully it will entertaining and not dangerous.

  32. Leah says:

I started screaming when I heard. The long national nightmare is finally coming to an end.

    You’re fired Trump!

  33. BearcatLawyer says:

Already drinking vodka and Sprite to celebrate. Don’t judge me. This weekend I will party, but come Monday, it will be time to roll up my sleeves and get to work saving this country and the world.

We are all wearing white on Inauguration Day, right?

    • Juls says:

I was saving the wine for tonight but, I confess, I already cracked it open! Wooohooooo!!!!

    • TheOriginalMia says:

No judging. Got my wine. Today is a day of celebration! We won!

    • Traveler says:

Drink away…………no judgement here! This is cause for an epic celebration!
Love your comment and your dedication to all that will need to be done.
If it wasn’t for the pandemic I’d drive across the country to attend the inauguration in person (and I’m happy to join you wearing white).

      • BearcatLawyer says:

I think it will likely be a mostly virtual inauguration. President Biden trusts scientists and doctors to keep us safe.

      • Traveler says:

Damn pandemic. I would love to see the mall packed to the gills for the inauguration while, somewhere out there in a darkened room, Drumpf’s eyes twitch uncontrollably with envy and fury watching the massive crowds on tv and hate tweeting like some B-movie villain.

    • SpankyB says:

I have work stuff to finish but I will be opening the wine earlier than I usually would. And I’m sure I’ll be drinking more than I usually do.

    • Carisel says:

I made margaritas the minute I heard, (after screaming at the top of my lungs).
Today we celebrate. Monday we go to Georgia.

Wow, I can actually breathe again.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

…..and I am drunk just in time for PRESIDENT ELECT BIDEN’s speech.

    • Nikki* says:

I live in NC, but all the neighborhood Biden fans gathered in a friend’s front yard to drink toasts and watch Biden’s speech tonight on an outside projector!. Then folks drove past honking and cheering! SO HAPPY!!!!!

  34. Also Ali says:

I would love to be dancing in the streets!! So incredibly happy and thankful!!

The video of Kamala calling Joe got me. I am so happy for her, for women, for people of color, for the future.

❤️ To celebitchy writers and commenters.

  35. KPS says:

Ecstatic! It is a beautiful morning in CA. I tuned in to CNN and saw Van Jones break down in tears after the announcement.

  36. Just A Thought says:

I am EXCITED that Biden -Harris have won. Congratulations! A new day have began in America!

  37. Amando says:

I’m in tears… I have HOPE again! Today is a good day.

  38. Josie Bean says:

As an American/Brit that video made me cry. At one time I loved the USA. Sadly, I couldn’t take the guns, Sandy Hook did me in and then Trump came along and pushed me over the edge. For my loved ones who still live in the USA, please let Biden and Harris bring the country together. Please, I cry as I type this – just let there be peace. Cheers to you all.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

The Biden/Harris campaign ads have been instant classics. Kudos to their team for making this video about the American people.

  39. Chris says:

So happy! And the first female VP!!!!!!

  40. Rapunzel says:

And Trump continues to sh– all over himself by being a whiny a– baby that is insisting he won “by a lot” and that Joe is “rushing to falsely pose as President.”

They are really gonna have to drag him out kicking and screaming.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

That tweet about winning ‘a lot’ made me think of Monty Python’s Life fo Brian where Brian says he dislikes the romans ‘a lot’ (i think thats the quote).

  41. Marie says:

Congratulations from Denmark. Immensely happy for all of you. Kaiser, I am very impressed with your four years of vigilant writing, consistently tearing into Baby Fists.

  42. L4frimaire says:

Yes!!!!!!! President Biden and Vice President Harris!!!!. To quote Joe Biden, This is a big fckn deal!!! My first emotion is relief,I feel like we have been pulled back from the brink. Who leads us matters, their tone and demeanor matter. Being hopeful, not hateful, matters. Having a woman Vice President matters. When you give people options to vote, they will come out and vote, regardless of what propaganda Teump and his ill put out. They ended up suppressing their own vote by lying about Mail in ballots. It’s not over and let’s get those two Democratic senate candidates in Georgia elected. I am Happy, relieved , and glad we will finally have decent people back in the White House.

  43. Midnight@theOasis says:

So ecstatic over this. Prayers do get answered. Was so afraid that 2020 would mess with us all again and screw us over once more. Let’s enjoy the moment and celebrate and be happy. Then roll up our sleeves and get back to work cause there’s a lot of hard work ahead.

  44. Angel says:

I am so happy and relieved. I couldn’t eat last tuesday. No more Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, Ivanka and Jared. Finally a good news for 2020.

  45. GR says:

Best words ever: Vice President Kamala Harris!

  46. LittlePenguin says:

YES! YES! YES! America, you did it!
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to have this happen.

I can’t wait to visit you again, (Once the plague is over!)

-A Canadian who popped champagne when we heard! (945am here!)

    • Chris says:

Having an adult as president and his hand on the nuclear codes rather than baby fists, who won’t capitulate to dictators like cheetolini, and will take climate change seriously with the rest of the world unlike the man to would do well to watch youtube makeup tutorials, is a relief for everyone.

Gotta get my teasing insults in now because soon that loser will be gone!

  47. Nlopez says:

Kamala!!!!! Yay! Im so happy. Felicidades Joe y Kamala!

  48. Busyann says:

Im so happy! Yay joe! Yay Kamala!!!! Yay we took America back!!!

But lets not forget or sleep on this moment. We can still take the Senate in January. If you’re in Georgia plan, donate if you can, volunteer, prepare to vote. Those runoffs are just as, if not, more important than taking the White House back. I no longer live in Georgia but I’m donating and getting involved however I can. Please do the same.

    • Eve says:

“Those runoffs are just as, if not, more important than taking the White House back.”

      Exactly!!!

  49. Lizzie says:

We opened one of those small bottles of Champaign when it was announced. Cheers Joe.

  50. Aeren says:

Yes yes yes! All of the heart emojis and Snoopy dancing gif.

  51. Esmom says:

Stunned, elated, relieved. Thank you Kaiser, CB, Hecate and team for helping keep us sane through some very dark days. We have so much work ahead of us…but today we celebrate!

  52. Liz version 700 says:

I am crying!!! Thank God! As Brian Schaltz just Tweeted…”the problems within the Repuvlic remain, but the Republic remains!”

  53. Mrs. Smith says:

    I’m so relieved!!! Yay America!!

  54. Seraphina says:

Let freedom reign!!!! I too have long been too scared to think he won but it is truth!

  55. Shoshone says:

I am thrilled about the Biden/Harris win and we are definitely celebrating tonight! We have to remain vigilant going forward though. Attempts are still going to be made to steal the election through the courts and at the Electoral Collage. Electors do not always vote for the candidate that won their state. There are numerous instances of this over the years. Laws governing electors and their conduct and appointment vary from state to state. Republicans are already suggesting that the Republican legislature in Pennsylvania appoint only republicans as electors who would agree to subsequently cast their electoral votes for Trump not Biden.

Remember it’s only over when Biden/Harris are sworn in and someone rolls Trump out of the White House (Melanie and Barron are probably packing for NY right now)!

    • Veronica S. says:

That PA Republican legislature can try whatever the f*ck they want. Don’t think those of who voted blue in PA won’t roll right up to that legislative building and raise Hell. Philadelphia in particular did not show up to play games.

    • saucy&Sassy says:

I was just reading something today about the Electors. There are 32 states and the District of Columbia who have laws on the books about the Electors voting for the candidate with the most votes. The U.S. Supreme Court in May upheld those laws and said that Presidential Electors can be forced to uphold the popular vote. I didn’t see Pennsylvania or Georgia among those that have a law. Arizona and Nevada do have laws.

  56. Nicole says:

CNN just called Nevada in his favour too!!

  57. Deering24 says:

Bye, Trump! And Melania! And Norman Bates Pence! DeVos—outta here! Carson—beat it! Miller-straight to hell! And all of the loathesome Trump minions and ghastly spawn! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • Soupie says:

OMG yes we got that evil Betsy DeVos and all the rest of the remaining cabinet out of there. I had a particularly intense dislike for that DeVos woman. Buh-BYE.

  58. Rise & Shine says:

YAY! The song Lovely Day says it all. Thanks to all here. I love ya, and yeah we did it! Be happy all and enjoy it, we have work to do ahead. And thanks Kaiser and CB for holding on with us! LOVE.

    • Traveler says:

Always appreciate the kindness in your comments (also reflected in your screen name).
I also want to thank everyone here. It has been a refuge for me during a dark and uncertain time.
To new hope for the future!

  59. LoonaticCap says:

So happy for America and for the world too. His unwavering and humongous greed is destroying America and the world. My own country is testament of this.
I was so disappointed to learn on of my – yes white- friends is against this result.
I just realized I am her token black friend. And we disagree in such a fundamental issue. Oh because he’s a pedo. He’s a socialist.
Well Trump is a pedo, a disgusting rapist, crazy, unhinged orange demon who fancies his own daughter, kept children in cages, encouraged the murder of black people like ME.
    I just can’t.
Well done America I hope this heals and brings up the change needed all. Over. The. World.

  60. Soupie says:

I was numb at first when I heard and realized the result, but now I’m having a really good cry – a joyful cry.

  61. RB says:

Heartfelt congratulations from Australia!!! I have been obsessively refreshing our news sites, waiting for this. The race that stopped the world!

    • CrazyCatLady says:

Congratulations from another very happy Australian. The best news!

    • Margaret says:

Another happy Aussie here. After having to listen to Trump’s crazy rantings for so long, and watched his pouting orange face and silly hair, to hear Mr Biden’s sane, rational, sensible interviews – his words inclusive rather than divisive – has been a sheer joy. There is hope for the world again. Congratulations Joe Biden and Kamala Harris!

  62. Digital Unicorn says:

Congrats to the US from the UK – next up BoJo!

I am soo pleased for Kamala Harris – she is truly going to be an inspiration to many young girls.

This is a happy day indeed and we need to hold onto that in the coming days until Joe’s inauguration.

  63. SJKnows says:

Been out doing chores today, just came in to see that AP has officially called Biden WIN.

    Tears to my eyes!
Thank God and Greyhound Trump will be gone.

Let the healing start my fellow Americans, please let us all move forward together.
USA is not a perfect country, but together with clear thinking and pulling together, we can certainly do a better job without that Orange Turd in office.

God Bless and Protect Biden and Harris!
I mean that literally, Trump has some truly nut job followers.

    YES!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness now I want to cry. It’s actually real. I’ve appreciated this community so much recently, thank you for helping me stay sane.

  65. Skylark says:

Such a heartfelt thanks to all the Americans who made this happen. Your courage and strength and determination and resolve in the face of the grotesque grimness you’ve had to contend with over the past 4 years – with a deadly pandemic icing on top of that grotesque grim cake – makes every last one of you truly heroic.

Much love to you on this happy day. Let the healing begin. x

Ever since hearing the wonderful news the song “Independence Day”by Martina McBride has been running through my head (in a good way 🥰)

Let freedom ring ,let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today
    Is a day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay
    It’s Independence Day 😭❤️

  67. Bohemian Angel says:

    Congratulations America!
Although I am not American I am ecstatic and so happy that the nation has a decent president now. Hopefully this will have an impact over here on Brexit Island and all the nasty racists that have been allowed to spew their toxicity will now go away.
Today is a good day!!! 👍🏾🍾🍾

  68. PNWer says:

Congratulations, you guys! We got rid of the Trump Tower in Vancouver as our small part. So glad you overcame the orange dictator wannabe

  71. Teebee says:

From your Canadian neighbours… congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. From despair to hope to trepidation to elation. I’m exhausted from running the gamut of emotions, but anything worth fighting for is worth having…or something like that!

  74. Shoshone says:

I’ll bet when Trump finally is forced out of the White House he “accidentally” takes a bunch of our art and furniture with him. I hope that we have a good inventory list!

  75. tmbg says:

We did it! Sanity prevailed and now we can reclaim the flag from those MAGAts and make it mean something again. 🇺🇸

  80. Jayna says:

I can’t believe I went from anger and sadness Tuesday night thinking Trump would be in office four more years, which was unfathomable to me, to the hopefulness the next day, to complete joy. The streets are filling with people of all colors celebrating with masks on. What a contrast to Trump’s rallies filled with 99.9 percent white people chanting, “Lock them up,” and feeding off his hate-filled rhetoric.

  81. Jayna says:

I can’t wait for their speeches tonight.

    • bettyrose says:

I know! 90 minutes! I’m looking forward to it. . . but I’m looking forward to many more years of their speeches and press conferences. I also have a petty side that really wants to see the guy who lost the popular vote twice be pushed in front of cameras for a concession speech. Oh, I know he won’t concede, but at this point the RNC has no more reason to tolerate his narcissism, and they should force him to.

  82. ClarissaH says:

    Congrats from Brazil!

  83. Poisonella says:

It’s been a long four years. My faith in my fellow man is renewed.

  84. Midge says:

As a NY surfer, I see you Rockaway-bound A train surfers at 0:32 of that video. What a day

  85. The Recluse says:

Fabulous. Been watching all the amazing footage in the streets. People just celebrating their asses off.
Now we have to get to January 20th. And I think we will.

  86. OriginalLala says:

Madam Vice President!!! I cry just thinking about that!!!

  87. Quincytoo says:

Just watched her speech and I wept happy tears and hoping one day she will be President
Watching Biden now and I have hope for my neighbor south
I’m Canadian the last few days have been huge on my anxiety and depression

  88. ZeeEnnui says:

I live in West Hollywood and I woke up to the sound of car horns honking. They honked all day, and I walked up to Santa Monica Boulevard which was lined with people dancing, laughing, singing and crying. We even got a double rainbow! I’ve never experienced anything like this. It’s as if a collective weight has been lifted and for the first time this year, and in the past four years, we were all allowed to feel hope and joy again. A Biden / Harris win won’t fix everything — we’ve gotta win those runoffs in Georgia — but it was a balm to the soul. Biden wasn’t my first or my 7th choice (I was always Team Kamala) but he was the right candidate for this moment. I’m proud to have cast my vote for Biden / Harris and I’m proud of all of us who did. I never realized how desperately we needed humanity and empathy in our leaders until we had Drumpf. Together Biden and Harris will bring sanity back to our country. Today is just a really good day.

  89. Sayrah says:

Loved the speeches from both the VP-elect abc President-elect tonight. Gtfoh Trump.

  90. Teeee says:

Philly gal here and tossing aside decorum, “fuck yeah!” …. historic. promising. hopeful.

  91. Lauri says:

Proud to be an American! We flew the flag for the first time in 4 years. (Outside of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.) I didn’t want to be confused with a trump supporter before.

  92. Leah Ludwig says:

Much love and congratulations from Canada! I’m so darn happy for you, and for the world.

Kaiser better do an entire post about Gritty memes!

Today has been one of the best days of my life.

  97. Chisom says:

(A Nigerian here) Always read your posts and I shared the same indignation that you had for Trump. I recognize bad leaders since we have plagued with them for decades. The world have always looked up to America as an example of good leadership up until Trump became one. I am so glad that now your country is getting what she deserves. I pray that healing abounds as America is restored to an even better glory.

  98. Fleurthefrenchie says:

Congratulations America! From a French friend whose friends, family and colleagues are also all cheering for you! I do not know a single person here who is not relieved for you and for the world! We’re all looking forward to reestablishing a strong and trustful relation with our long time allies. Ps. So happy about Harris as VP… hopefully setting an example for more women of colour, and more women in general, at the highest offices anywhere in the world!

  99. Bc says:

Congrats to Americans for standing up against a racist president. Enough had truly been enough. I can never forget how Trump lacked diplomacy with almost all nations on earth except Israel. The terms he used to refer to African nations. The disrespect. Seeing others as subhuman and not stopping police brutality but actually fuelling racist fires everywhere. He is disgusting. I dont know what the future holds but im glad hes out. Refusing to concede just shows he was the wrong choice from the start and im so glad people woke up to this fact.

    Congrats to Kamala Harris.

  100. Ohlala says:

Congratulations America!! From Europe. The whole world relieved. I was crying yesterday watching people celebrate and when Kamala called Joe Biden..
But there is so much work to do so.please do not relax. Trump was no accident. Trumpism is in American bones. And support for it and enabling from GOP is mind blowing. Please do not relax..

  101. Alexandria says:

Thank you to the Americans who voted for Biden / Harris, sending all my love from Singapore!

  102. Belindaya says:

  103. dreamchild says:

Congrats Celebitches!!!!! I have only allowed myself to check out your blog this whole week due to the overwhelming stress of the last 4 years especially as a Black mom of three grown sons and 5 grandsons. Friday evening I received a text to attend a vote wait protest at Columbus Circle (59th and Central Park West) at noon which is right in front of Trump International Hotel. Imagine my surprise and delight when I emerged from the subway to discover Biden/Harris had been declared winners. The whole street immediately erupted in cheers and fist bumps and shouts of YOU’RE FIRED directly at the Trump building. All the cars, buses and trucks in the street were honking their horns and folks hanging out of cars screaming with glee. I walked up Central Park West from 59th street to 125th joining in and dancing with all the celebrations at every intersection. Even though we were all wearing masks (NYers are exceptionally good at that) you could still see the smiles. Folks were cheering with champagne, ringing cowbells and even some pots and pans!!! The weather was an absolutely perfect fall day with not a cloud in the deep blue sky and gentle breezes. I just recently relocated back to NY from Florida for my Mom and was deeply grateful to be able to join in the celebration with my hometown and a resounding repudiation of Don the Con!!!!!!!!
Next the ATL (which needs to win 2 Dem Senators) another hometown of mine where I raised my sons and they still live!
Thanks for all the love and support from around the world.

I had the best sleep last night and feel so good today. It was a nail biting rough week of uncertainty, narrow margins and angst. Onward and upward!
