There’s a call for Rege Jean-Page to be the next James Bond

BRIDGERTON_108_Unit_00543R (1)
The newest James Bond movie, No Time to Die will be released in April after several delays. Daniel Craig confirmed last year that he was leaving the franchise after No Time to Die. For years fans were calling for Idris Elba to be the next Bond. There was a lot of racist backlash at the suggestion of a black man taking on the role. Late last year it was rumored that Tom Hardy had been chosen to take on the role but it has yet to be confirmed.

Now that Rege-Jean “the God” Page is the new hot young thing due to his role as Simon Bassett in Netflix’s Bridgerton, people are calling for Rege to be the next Bond. Rege has gotten wind of the buzz and coyly posted a gif from Bridgerton captioned it with a well known James Bond catchphrase. Rege, 31, wrote “Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred” along with the #Bridgerton hashtag. You can see that Tweet below.

Rege can be my Bond anyday. Where do I volunteer as tribute to be a Bond girl so I can be in a film with him? I will eat clean and exercise for months to get into shape. I actually like the idea of Rege as Bond more than Idris (although I loved this idea) and Tom. To be fair I am not digging Tom Hardy as Bond. I am not sure what it is… wait yea I do, it’s his voice. Don’t at me but I do not like Tom Hardy’s voice. It would ruin the film for me.

Despite wanting to see Rege in a suit, running around with scantily clad women and all of that, I think he may need several more years under his belt before he could be a great Bond. Bond is usually a man in his forties and Rege is only 31. And we’d need several more years before folks come around to the idea of a Black James Bond. I saw how Bond’s toxic fans came after Lashana Lynch with hate and trolling after the trailer for No Time to Die dropped and it showed her as a female Bond. Lashana had to shut down her social media for a week because it had gotten so bad. The studios in these situations often do not support the Black actors who are experiencing harassment nor stand up to their franchises’ toxic fans. See John Boyega in Star Wars.

Now back to the frivolity. Rege-Jean is fine, and I for one am definitely here for fantasizing about seeing Rege’s beautiful face and body on the big screen. I personally can’t get enough of Rege. I’ve binge watched Bridgerton several times so my obsession is solid. With that being said, I’d prefer to see a more mature, read older, Rege playing James Bond. And while we wait for Rege to age like a fine whisky, I think Sam Heughan would be the perfect addition to the Bond franchise.

Here are a few tweets calling for Rege to be the next Bond:

I have never been interested in the James Bond franchise, but if he or Idris are playing Bond I’m watching. Being thirsty AF.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

      Exactly how I feel.

    • Snappyfish says:

I would love for him to be Bond. I wanted James Norton (Sydney from Grantchester) but The Duke of Hastings will do nicely.

    • Bibi says:

I am down for Rege and for Sam heughan in james Bond with rege being Bond. My favorites. Rege in my new favorite. I want them to make Sam H dirty and not clean looking like in his latest movies (the spy who dumped me) Let me have modern & masculine Jamie Fraser.

    • Cali says:

I still want Idris! This Jean-Page guy is handsome but not as all the hoopla makes him out to be.

    • msd says:

The Idris ship has sailed. At almost 50, he’s too old to start playing Bond. They’ll want someone in his thirties who they can get 10+ years out of. The tough shoots are practically killing Craig now and he’s only a few years older!

I watched Bridgerton and this guy was …fine. Handsome but not the strongest actor. Then again, Bond doesn’t necessarily need to be? Since it takes a few years to get each film off the ground I don’t think he’s necessarily too young.

  2. Becks1 says:

I’m down. I see your point about him being a little older – but figure by the time they get the contract signed, write the movie, start filming – he could be 35?

Also I’m sort of concerned that he’s only 31. I’m 38 so I don’t feel that bad for thinking he’s hot, lol, but I realize I’m getting to the age where more and more of the romantic leads in movies are going to be way younger than me. It’s like how pro athletes all seem so young to me now, especially baseball players.

    • Seraphina says:

Becks, I am older than you and I think he’s hot. He also gives off gibes of being older for his age. Maybe it’s the accent. I am a sucker for an accent.

      • Becks1 says:

I think its the accent and the costumes. that’s what I’m telling myself anyway. I would definitely see him in Bond on opening weekend no less, LOL.

      • Seraphina says:

Haha, agreed to all your points.

      • Ann says:

I think he can play older than he is, though. My husband and I watched Bridgerton and he told me Rege Jean-Page had played Chicken George in “Roots.” I had no idea it was the same person because in “Roots” he starts off quite young (and looks it) but they age him with makeup. I thought his character the Duke of Hastings was older, like mid-thirties anyway.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Not yet. He needs some really great film roles first so he would not be type cast. He is too good to waste on the Bond franchise.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Becks1, I am much older than you and I would have no problem……(allow your mind to fill in the blank)……..with Rege-Jean Pagé.

  3. Rose says:

Haven’t seen Bond since it was played by Brosnan. They have my attention with Page

  4. Scarlett says:

Page for Bond, or my next choice Dev Patel. Hope the franchise is listening, time for a change!

    • Ninks says:

Yes to either of these. Start with a Bond origin story when he was first recruited and you don’t have to worry about being too young.

I remember one of the ‘complaints’ about Idris as Bond was that he was too urban. Nobody can say that about the Duke.

      • Amelie says:

Is too urban a code for “too black”? Rege is lighter than Idris and that’s all I see if someone is going to complain he is too “urban.”

      • Basicbondgirl says:

They’ve already done an origin story. Craig’s first movie, Casino Royale, is where he earns his licence to kill. It’s one of my favourite Bond movies, because it shows Bond as quite unpolished and making mistakes, blundering a little. That and Skyfall, though I’ll admit that one is most about Judi Dench, who I love.

Dev Patel would be a really interesting choice. Or, going for another Australian, Don Hany, would be interesting.

  5. Oh_Hey says:

Yass. I haven’t even watched Bridgerton but from the face alone he gets a yes. And a lot faster than Tom Hardy.

  6. Lillyfromlilooet says:

I was super duper excited when Idris Elba was in the mix. Rege is okay, but feels young at this moment. I could see Dev Patel also.

    • Katie says:

I don’t see Dev Patel in that style but if he can pull a Robert Pattinson then I’d be very into the idea

  7. Katie says:

    I’ll allow it

  8. Mina_Esq says:

Must racist a-holes ruin everything?! 😩 If not Bond, Rege better be the new Colin Firth. That is to say, I hope they cast him in every role that calls for a British male lead.

  9. MattyLove says:

    Mmmmm! Yes!!!!

  10. Levans says:

Idris really got screwed over when Daniel Craig was chosen as Bond. He would have been an excellent bond. The Duke (as I call him) would also be an excellent choice.

    • Lillyfromlilooet says:

@levans — I was so excited when Idris came up–the thing Idris has that Rege doesn’t is that kind of moody broody darkness that Bond leads have. Then there was some rando comment about Idris being “too street” to play Bond.

The whole Bond appeal is that Bond has this duality of being a tuxedoed gent with great class and also ruthless down and dirty fighters–like Bond will be at a palace cocktail party quaffing the shaken not stirred (or is it the other way around?) martini and when suddenly a villain enters and Bond leaps into action and the room is destroyed. Idris would have been perfect.

  11. Lucy2 says:

I’m for it! He definitely has the looks and the swagger.

  12. Midnight@theOasis says:

I agree Oya. I think Rege needs a few more years to mature to play an effective Bond. Though it would be nice to see an actor of color in that role. But as others have stated, the racists would lose their minds over a man of color as Bond. Is nothing sacred for them? Lol. Also, check out Rege as Chicken George in the 2016 remake of Roots. He was really good in that role. I do hope all this attention brings Rege more work. I could see him in a variety of acting roles.

  13. Sunday says:

Yes please! I think his age would only help to energize the franchise after the last few Daniel Craig movies. Lord, the smoulder.

Henry Golding would also be incredible, and if we’ve gotta go basic then you can’t go wrong with Henry Cavill or Richard Madden.

  14. Kate says:

Dayum this guy is nice! Hot. Haven’t seen the show or heard of him before so thanks CB!

  15. Mirage says:

Smoking hot! Perfect successor to Daniel Craig

  16. nettie says:

YES!!! He’s beautiful, eloquent and sexy…

  17. Veronica S. says:

His filmography is small enough that I can’t see a major studio trying him out for such a huge franchise yet, but you know…maybe down the line. He’s certainly got the look. I almost kind of want to keep him for television roles, though. I feel like that’s where the more interesting work is these days.

  18. Valiantly Varnished says:

I agree he’s too young for the part. But I have rewatched Bridgerton a few times as well. Well not the whole series. Just a few episodes. Okay episode six. I’ve rewatched episode six.

    • Becks1 says:

LOLOL Valiantly. You are not the only one! we rewatched it last night and I asked my husband why he never says that he burns for me and he was like….uh, I burn for you? LOLOL

      • truthSF says:

Oh BECKS1!!! I can just see your hubby looking dumbfounded right before he says it!!😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

      • Becks1 says:

Oh whoops we rewatched Episode 5 last night! He doesn’t know what he’s in for tonight with Episode 6 LOL. (I’ve seen them all, and he watched the first 1-3 with me, so now he wants to “catch up” i.e. he’s worried he missed the interesting scenes.)

I did also ask him why he has never made a speech to me like Hastings made to the Queen and he was like, to whom do I need to make a speech like that?!?!?! We’ve been married 13 years, I’m not trying to convince anyone to let us marry!!!

        Well then. Hmph.

    • Oya says:

*nods head* same sis….same and I am not ashamed

  19. Sandra says:

Absolutely! I’ve never really watched any Bond movie (just bits and pieces as my husband was watching them) but certainly would start watching with Rege as Bond. He’s perfect for that role!💋

  20. Sayrah says:

Omg you mentioned Sam heughan too. I can’t get enough of those two. 🔥

  21. ce says:

He’s sexy but can we just not do James Bond for awhile? It is so BORING and OLD FASHIONED

  22. Che says:

I just said that on Facebook the other day! He is BOND.

  23. ClaireB says:

I don’t like the James Bond franchise, but even I would be interested in this electrifying man playing a younger, less experienced Bond. I’ve never been into the 40-year-old, world-weary womanizing Bond. It’s just gross to me.

And Rege-Jean Page and the costumes are the only reasons I’m still watching Bridgerton at all.

  24. Normades says:

I’m fine with him being young. He’ll just be closer in age to the Bond girls. And He has the perfect swagger for it.

I would hate Tom Hardy for this. What an uninspired choice. Plus he is the worst dresser in real life. Bond has to have style.

  25. MellyMel says:

I have never watched a James Bond movie…like ever, but I would be in the theater on opening day if Rege was JB. So gorgeous!

  26. MF1 says:

Honestly, this would be brilliant casting. He’s sexy, has the menacing presence for Bond, and has that “cool” factor that’s absolutely crucial for the character. He’s only 31 but actually reads as a bit older than that on screen. By the time they made the movie, he’d be 34 or 35, which means they could keep him in the franchise for at least 10 years. And, cherry on top, the franchise would seem cool and woke to have cast a POC.

He’s basically the best candidate I can think, except maybe Dev Patel.

  27. Lemon8 says:

    He should be in EVERYTHING.

  28. Lizzythe2 says:

Not seeing that at all. I’d still watch though as I love Bond as a whole. I hate Craig but I still loved the films he’s in. I’m still hoping they consider Ian Turner. The issue for a female Bond was stupid to me. Bond is a man. There are plenty of opportunities to create a worthy “Bond like” female character. Charlize Theron had a film where she played a spy. It was awesome! Atomic Blonde

  29. Keroppi says:

I don’t really care about the Bond franchise, but my vote would be for Jean-Page or Henry Golding!

  30. Maria says:

    Lashana Lynch is still better.

  31. Detnow359 says:

Bond fan here and I agree he’s too young. Bond, well good Bonds, are also a bit rugged while being sexy and suave. I don’t think he fits that either.

There was a time I would have liked to see Elba but I think that time has passed. I reminds me of the Brosnan time. His name was thrown around for years, because of his time on Remington Steele. but by the time if finally happened it just didn’t feel right nor did it work.

I would hate to see Hardy though. I think he gets some checkmarks but I don’t feel like he’s “the one” lol.

    • Lizzythe2 says:

I didn’t really like Brosnan as Bond either. He was good looking yes, but Bond has to be vicious as well and I never thought he had it. Best Bond for me is Sean.

Idris would have been great. He has the suave, sexy but can be vicious as well.

My pick for Bond at this point is Aidan Turner. He was vicious and sexy in Being Human. So dashing in Poldark.

  32. Mignionette says:

This was one of my first thoughts when I saw him. He is the perfect bond – in 10 years.

If I were his agent however I would advise him NOT to do it as it would severely affect his acting career and the roles he could get thereafter.

Bond is Bond and it does typecast you.

    • Becks1 says:

10 years could be good though – give him some time to make his mark, get the interesting roles, more TV work (which does seem better than movies currently), a few more seasons of Bridgerton (although he wont be as interesting, sadly), and then bam! Bond! But they will need someone in between I guess? How long was between Brosnan and Craig?

  33. Zaya says:

It took me awhile to figure out where I’ve seen before. He’s was in For the People if anyone wants to hear him do an American accent.

  34. LeonsMomma says:

Timing is everything for this role: I remember Pierce Brosnan was supposed to be the Bond after Roger Moore, but producers of “Remington Steele” wouldn’t let him out of production to do it. Cue Timothy Dalton, who I liked in the role — who only stayed for two Bond movies. Interesting story about him on his Wikepedia page — Dalton was asked to be in the role in after Connery left, but he declined because he thought he was too young.

I would have liked Idris Elba for the role, but they chose Daniel Craig, who I like. The years Craig was Bond were the same Elba should have been playing the role, and I think Elba is too old for the role (Sorry!!!)

So, back to the original story: I think Rene would be great — I am actually really debating whether or not he is too young. Love Dev Patel as a choice. Henry Golding is a maybe. Tom Hardy may be too old. I think Sam Heughan is bland and generic.

  35. Nikki* says:

    I think he’d be GREAT!! 🙂

  36. Andrea says:

I still want Michael Fassbender, but maybe he’d suit a villain role. I really like the Duke in Bridgerton, so I wouldn’t mind seeing more of him!

  37. Pamuk says:

Agree he’s too young and doesn’t have that mature edge to be bond, that said, id watch the movie to see him.

  38. Jessie says:

    Oooo he smolders. Yes.

  39. Em says:

This man is gorgeous, intelligent, confident, with such swagger….in a few years I think he could pull the role off and do it justice!

  40. K says:

Yes,please. Or better yet Dracula. This man is glorious

  41. L4frimaire says:

Regé is hot, a good actor and delicious, but loving him as Duke of Hastings. Sam Heughan ( aka Jamie Fraser of Outlander) is my first bodice ripper love and think he’d make an amazing Bond. He’s handsome, great accent, looks good in and out of a suit, and pushing 40. I never liked Daniel Craig as Bond.

  42. LeLe says:

I’m here for it! He’s beautiful!
