Berlin singer Terri Nunn claims she was tricked into performing at Mar-a-Lago

Terri Nunn, lead singer of the group Berlin, came under fire for performing at Mar-a-Lago during their ill-advised New Year’s Eve Party last week (the photo above is from a show in 2019). Donald Trump didn’t even bother to show up. His bonehead sons did, as well as the permanently shouting Kimberly Guilfoyle and deranged consigliere Rudy Giuliani. Wow, now there’s a party, huh? Berlin was one of the big gets for the shindig. After it came out that the resort was packed with a bunch of sweaty, maskless, right-wing COVIDiots who can’t dance, many of Terri’s fans wanted to know WTF she and the band were thinking for signing up for that gig. Terri issued an apology on the band’s official Facebook page explaining she’d been tricked into playing Mar-a-Lago and the whole thing was a mistake and she was very sorry. Only she wasn’t tricked and there was no mistake.

I am truly sorry I performed at Mar-a-Lago and would not have done so if I’d known what I learned while I was there. My goal in performing was not to support a political party. I see now that that’s not the way it appeared and I am apologetic for that as well. The contract stated it was a small Covid-safe event for the members of Mar-a-Lago. Unfortunately it was not Covid-safe anywhere in Florida. I had no idea masks and social distancing were not required. I thought I was current on all Covid news everywhere, but clearly I was not. I was shocked by Florida and Mar-a-Lago’s lack of regard for the pandemic and if I’d known I would never have gone. Once I fulfilled my contractual obligation, I left the event as quickly as I could. It is a mistake I regret. I took a Covid 19 test yesterday and tested negative.
My apologies to those in the LGBTQ community who thought my performance was a statement against them. I have been and always will be fully supportive.

I am disinclined to give Terri the benefit of the doubt here. No one who’s paid any attention for the last four years thought those people would follow a single precaution. Trump’s people have openly flouted all COVID precautions so they certainly weren’t going to during a private party . Terri said she didn’t do her homework, but she would have to be living under a rock to think this would be ok. And how can she claim playing at Mar-a-Lago would not appear political? Or as a slight to the LGBTQ community? But this misguided deflection is Terri’s MO. I remember when Berlin’s mega hit, Take My Breath Away, came out. It was written for and shot to the top because of the movie Top Gun. The band, like most 80s pop groups, were anti-military and anti-war and came under fire for contributing to a film that glorified both. At the time, Terri gave this ridiculous response, like her Mar-a-Lago response, about how Take My Breath Away was their statement against the military and if you watch the video of them standing in front of a burned-out jet, you would get that they were making a stand against all things war. It, too, was a bunch of BS to cover up the boatload of money they made from it.

Berlin aren’t the only ones having to defend their Mar-a-Lago performance, Vanilla Ice and Taylor Dayne both performed at the function and are also claiming they never intended for their appearance to be seen as political. Mike Love and his Non Beach Boys played the party, but he isn’t addressing anything because he doesn’t give a sh*t what you think of him.

Here are some videos to show you how bad it was at this thing. Warning, these will piss you off, but they are also blindingly white, so have some shades ready:

Nunn thinks we’re all stupid as trumpers. Into the bin with this b*tch.

    • Drea says:

Complete with smiling, no mask picture with Ted Nugent…

      HARD eye roll.

No one is buying it. Bye girl.

  2. grabbyhands says:

I don’t know what’s more disappointing – that she did it or that she really thinks people will buy that sorry ass excuse.

There is zero way you could not be aware that A. Mar a Lago has been 45’s squat for years or that B. Florida has been flouting COVID health advisories since day one and that gee, if you’re going to a party at the residence of someone who has spent the better part of a year pretending that the virus is a hoax, and that residence is in the state where the governor has been telling people to ignore health warnings, you might be in for a bad time.

  3. Stacy Dresden says:

So you go sing for the Eagle’s Nest patrons and the most shocking element is the lack of pandemic protocol? Sure bish sure.

  4. Amy Bee says:

Who doesn’t know that Mar-a-Lago is owned by Trump? BTW, MAGA has poor taste in music.

    • Linabear says:

It’s not that MAGA has poor taste in music. They’ve been blacklisted by every other band so their options are extremely limited to 80s has-beens that are desperate to make a buck and put their names in the news.

  5. Rose says:

It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

All performers appear to be has beens. Just like dump will be

It’s absolutely political. Why accept the job in the first place? Are they all that broke they needed the check??

    • original_kellybean says:

      In a word – yes.

    • Larelyn says:

Seeing Vanilla Ice perform, looking EVERY BIT of his 53 years was so cringeworthy. Those songs do not look good on middle aged performers. Then seeing the crowd not even know the lyrics? LOL dtjr and kg stumbling through, acting like they know the words, but turn away from the cameras once the hook is past… Those recordings were painful. Just so ridiculous. Has beens on the stage, has beens in the audience, has beens everywhere!

  6. BlueSky says:

Just say you needed the money and be done. This is probably the best they could get because no self respecting A list singer/celebrity would do it.

  7. Lanie says:

    Berlin?
    Taylor Dane?
    Vanilla Ice?

Was this party at Mar a Lago or Has-Been Hell?

    • Lillyfromlilooet says:

@Lanie I am sure the appearance fee is going to comprise a huge chunk of their yearly earnings at this stage of their careers, which is why I have some compassion.

      • Lanie says:

I don’t have any compassion for:

        1. Those who perform at super spreader events as the refrigerator trucks are rolling out because morgues are full.

        2. People who think performing for Trump events aren’t political acts.

Where was all this compassion for Chrisette Michelle?

    • josephine says:

Looking at that video made me laugh out loud. The party seemed so lame and pathetic. No one can dance, they all just stood around with their phones in their hands waving their arms at random from time to time. What a collection of sad sacks. I think they’ve all been left in the sun too long. So much crass in such a small, low-class space.

  8. Lola says:

Also her hit sing is “Take My Breath Away” while people are on ventilators. No way that’s not some sick joke

    • Stacy Dresden says:

The crowd singing along to the song with the repeating lyrics “…til we die!” was really something

  9. Courtney B says:

If it wasn’t for the fact this was a super spreader event which could kill actual innocent people , that video would be hilarious. That’s some cringe worthiness right there. Kim G looks ridiculous doing her little arm moves.

And the band can f@#$ right off. I can’t believe that song won the Oscar for best song. ( Nunn didn’t though.)

    • trashaddict says:

Can’t freaking unsee Kim’s fake nail-tip waves. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. That woman has to be a space alien. No human being could raise raise someone like that.

  10. Sean says:

I hope they all get Covid-19 and have conditions severe enough they realize just who idiotic and self-centered they’ve all been.

    • trashaddict says:

Well a bunch of them have already had it, think they’re immune and don’t give a rat’s s$$ about anybody else.

  11. Izzy says:

Honestly I didn’t even know Berlin was still around.

  12. Ang says:

Berlin was the first band I ever saw! (Opening for Thompson Twins and Duran Duran!). She looks great. Too bad she made this stupid decision. Ugh.

  13. Lucy2 says:

First of all, there is no such thing as a Covid safe party, so anyone who agreed to perform was already stepping in it, regardless of location. I get that musicians are really struggling, but is it worth your life? Entertaining a super spreader event?
Second, there’s no way anyone who has been conscious for the last four years did not know what that place was, who they were performing for, and what it represented.

  14. Ariel says:

In 1986 I was 14, and I loved Top Gun, saw it multiples times in the theatre. And when she made her anti war (go out kill the faceless enemy is a bad message) statement, it really made me think. My dumb 14 year old brain- it had never occurred to me to look at it like that. (Volleyball scene).

I felt like she expanded my mind.
    So this is disappointing.
But if she had said- I REALLY needed the money, I know he sucks- would I be less disappointed? Not sure.

  15. Willow says:

It’s pretty obvious these ‘stars’ need the paycheck. I really feel bad for the band’s crew and Mar-a-lago staff. They should at least be getting hazardous duty pay, like the military gets when assigned to dangerous locations.

  16. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I wonder if she sang my favorite Berlin song, ‘Sex I’m a….’

  17. Valiantly Varnished says:

Taylor Dane?! Ugh. That’s so disappointing. Why are all the late 80’s early 90’s celebs turning out to be such a-holes??

  18. jferber says:

But wait. Trump doesn’t pay! The performers will all be stiffed or receive only a percentage of what they were supposed to be paid. Because that’s how Trumps roll. Get the money BEFORE you do anything for him. ‘Cause he’s a con man, right?

  19. Turtledove says:

I have to assume that they all needed the money. I don’t neccessarily give them a full “pass”, but how many gigs are ANY of those performers getting these days? I am sure they were given a LOT of $, and while it is easy for me to say “you couldn’t pay me enough to do that”- no one is exactly offering ME that kind of money are they?

Though in fairness, I think I would be too afraid for my health to accept that gig, so my morals would be a secondary concern anyway. I am in MA, and my husband doesn’t even want me going to the grocery store at peak hours, so the idea that I would fly to FL and attend a party with a bunch of Covid-deniers is laughable)

That said, to then act like you had no idea what you were doing is just insulting and disingenious. She would have done better to just say “that paycheck was more than I normally make in 6 months and I needed it.”

  20. Coco says:

‘I was told we would be playing Lar-a-Mago.’

  21. Jezebel's Lacefront says:

I have “No More Words” for her.

  22. Marina Karina says:

Loved Berlin back in the 80s, but not buying this excuse.
I’m going to guess she needed the paycheck. Hopefully it will pay her Covid hospitalization bills.
