Dr. Jill Biden is wearing a blue tweed coat & dress by Alexandra O’Neil

I honestly only realized this week that the Biden era will mark the return of fashion coverage in politics. I realized it as soon as everyone started complimenting Dr. Jill Biden’s fantastic Jonathan Cohen ensemble yesterday. She looked gorgeous in shades of purple, but for Inauguration Day, most FLOTUSes prefer to either wear white (suffragette white) or the color of their political party (red for Republicans, blue for Democrats). Today, Dr. Jill chose blue! She’s wearing an ocean blue tweed coat and dress by Alexandra O’Neil. O’Neil is the American designer of Markarian, a sustainable fashion line. President Joe Biden’s ensemble is Ralph Lauren. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff is also wearing Ralph Lauren.

As for Vice President Kamala Harris, our first woman VP, our first Black VP, our first Indian VP, our first Black-Indian woman VP… goosebumps. Per the press pool, VP Harris “wore Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson. Rogers is a young Black designer, from Baton Rouge. Sergio is Black designer from South Carolina.” I love the fact that both VP Harris and Dr. Biden eschewed big-name designers for the inauguration, and instead chose up-and-coming American designers. Dr. Biden chose a young female designer, VP Harris chose a Black designer. Stunning choices. PS… Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wore a gorgeous turquoise coat! Pelosi is always showing off her great coat collection, she gives off such Chic Grandma Vibes.

Tears and goosebumps. I am SO insanely relieved, and proud, and EMOTIONAL watching Kamala Harris. My god, y’all, my five year old son is going to grow up knowing that women can and will be vice president or president of the United States!

    • Lexilla says:

I know, I keep crying just at the sight of these normal, honorable, lovely people. Tears and deep breaths of relief.

I’m so happy I got up early on a Wednesday (west coast) & am just taking in as much of this wonderful day as possible. Yes there’s a lot to still be done but we’re heading the right way. I’m blissed out.

Character, integrity and style have come home.

Look at Dr. Biden reach for President Biden’s hand! Huge departure from Melania’s disdain for the orange one.

I am already a little obsessed with Dr. Biden’s outfit.

    STUNNING!

So much love. I’m looking forward to all the fashion we hopefully will get.

    • Melanias departing black outfit was just like Xenia Onatopps military outfit in “Goldeneye”.
For those who don’t know the reference Xenia (played by Famke Janssen) is a murderous villain in a Bond movie.

I’m so happy for us we get to read Kaiser’s fashion coverage 😍 cheers everyone! 🥂

I always think blonde women look incredible in blue! My ex is a blonde girl and she looks so heavenly in every shade, Dr. Biden looks soooo sophisticated and chic and I love that she’s wearing a matching mask. Willileaks, Buttons, and Complicit Ivanka etc. have primed me for seeing public figures too proud to go masked – and this is such a refreshing change.

Kamala Harris looks gorgeous too – I love her choices! And Doug looks great!

    Love the bright colors.

Hillary looks incredible in that fluffy purple scarf and blowout!!!!

  11. Willow says:

Yes! Use your influence to help fellow decent hard working Americans! Love it!

  12. JanetDR says:

I have never enjoyed an inauguration more! Many happy tears shed this morning but I can’t help but feel deeply for Hillary as well.
    Loving the colors!

  13. Julia K says:

Yes Hillary looks nice. What if the popular vote was allowed to stand in 2016? This would be the start of her second term. Still feel sad.

  14. Joy says:

Ok but Michelle O needs her own post because that jumpsuit was FIRE.

    • winosaurus says:

THIS! I took one look at her and had to fan myself. That was perfection. Every little bit of it was just perfection.

  15. Killfanora says:

Brit here….watched the inauguration with much interest and emotion. The woman all looked stunning and the speeches were all heartfelt. Got quite emotional listening to Joe Biden. Such sincerity and humanity.
A question…..the field of flags; was there a meaning to the various ones? We’re they state flags?

    • MissMarierose says:

Yes, I believe so. States and territories. The flags you see in the last photo, the closest one is the Puerto Rican flag.

  16. BeeCee says:

I gasped when I saw Dr. Biden. She looks absolutely breathtaking.

That whole outfit is so beautiful!

  17. winosaurus says:

Can someone ID Nancy’s mask? It was so pretty.

I couldn’t get over how amazing Madame Vice President Harris (OMG WRITING THAT SENDS SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE) and Dr. Biden looked.

Also can we talk about Michele Obama’s ensemble? She is my forever crush, but i cried so many hopeful happy tears this morning.

So much great fashion today! Nancy, Hillary, Michelle, Kamala and Jill all brought their A-games (I didn’t see Laura). I love that Kamala and Jill are supporting smaller designers and wearing brighter colors to celebrate this new beginning. Joe and Doug looked dapper and well-dressed. So excited to see not only President Biden take the oath of office, but to see such accomplished women and POC celebrated in the spotlight.
