Ioan Gruffudd left his wife of 14 years, Alice Evans, and I think there could be some big drama with this one? Alice is already posting statements on social media. [JustJared]

Re the Ioan Gruffudd drama, Celebitches always come down hard on cheaters, so if he wasn’t yet unfaithful but telling his wife he is leaving her I guess we have to respect that. I do wonder if he already has a new girlfriend though.

    • PippiLongdivision says:

Wasn’t she engaged to someone else when she got with him? And I seem to remember her publicly saying the got married because she gave him an ultimatum? I don’t say this to take any side in this, I have no idea or suspicion about what went down here, just to say this reminded me of this old gossip (yes I am a giant nerd and was mildy obsessed with him in his Hornblower days) and how, in the light of that, surprised I was and am that they lasted so long.

    • Amy Too says:

It seems weird to me that he just randomly told her “I’ll be leaving the family next week. K thanks bye.” I just can’t imagine a wife/mom being able to just tell her husband “I’ll be moving out next week. Deal with the house and kids for me. I will be abdicating all my responsibilities as of next week.” Like I know there HAVE BEEN women who have done that, but it seems more like when a woman wants to leave her family, she takes the children. Or files for divorce and tries to make sure she gets full or half custody and takes the time to plan it all out and make sure everyone is taken care of. He’s just moving out with hardly any notice. Does the wife work? Or even just ever leave the house on her own? Who will take care of their young kids during the times when she needs to go do something? I feel like if I were going to leave my family, I would make sure there was extra childcare and support set up. And I’d tell my husband and kids way ahead of time. Honestly, I would just take my kids with me, or maybe as my husband to move out instead. But what he’s doing seems to harsh. Has he been planning a new life and buying a new apartment behind her back?

      • Humbugged says:

He work in Australia most of the year

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

Her post will probably be a nightmare for him. To just leave her and their daughters with almost no notice… I’ll bet money there’s an affair here and he’s trying to protect someone.

Affair aside… if what she’s saying is true.. he wants to leave his daughters? Uh oh…

      • Killfanora says:

Why “I’m leaving the family next week”? Seems an odd thing to say. It’s usually “I’m leaving….’bye!”

      • GraceB says:

Just my take on it but I’d bet that he’s said he doesn’t love her or want to be with her anymore and he’s sat down to discuss this with her. She’s been blindsided because maybe she thought they were solid. He’s said he’s going to leave and is lining himself up a place to stay so will remain in the marital home until next week and then because she was so blindsided, that’s where her posts come from. Dramatising because she’s hurt.

I might be wrong but I think if it were an affair, he’d have just up and left, with somewhere already to go.

    • Humbugged says:

He never wanted to marry her anyway .She threatened to leave him if he didn’t

If was coming for a time .He did an interview in The Graun last year and he was saying that they had spent most of the previous 4 year living apart because of work .And he has spent a large chunk of that in Australia where he has his own show

Welsh blokes apparently don’t do weddings as his best friend as Matthew Rhys who in not married to Kerri Russell either

      • Andrea says:

Wow bullying someone into marriage is never going to work out in the end!

      • Sandra says:

If two functioning adults want very different things for their relationship, ie: get married vs. not get married, then break up. Marriage is a serious commitment and it can be a pain in the @$$ to divorce. I’m sure it would have been painful to break up, but it’s even more painful now after being married for that long and with children involved.

      • Amy Too says:

It’s not bullying, it’s literally giving someone a choice. It’s asking them “do you want to married or break up? Getting married is important to me, but if it’s not important to you, then we should break up.” I don’t think ultimatums about marriage are a bad thing really. It’s women asking their partners to give them the legal protection that being married would give them, instead of just giving everything to the man without any commitment or protection. Especially if you have children.

      • Mia4s says:

Thank you @Amy Too! People bringing this up as if it explains something is ridiculous. By my math he was 33 or 34 when they married. And then he stayed for 14 years and fathered two kids. Not exactly a poor, impressionable babe in the woods when these decisions were made! A grown man by any definition. It drives me insane how we infantilize men.

Look if he wasn’t cheating, this is sad but it is what it is. If he was cheating? Ewww. Let’s wait and see. (Although the giving one week’s notice thing implied by the wording is certainly…odd.)

      • dlc says:

Amy Too, I have always thought ultimatums were given a bad rap. What is wrong with telling someone “This is what I need to feel fulfilled. If you can’t give me that, it’s time to move on”. I had that talk with my SO. I knew he didn’t want to marry, and I was fine with that, but I did need to know he wasn’t just passing the time, that his intention was for us to build a life together. (While acknowledging that this intention does not always work out, married or not).

      • LisaT says:

The only folks being upset about this comment are those who likely gave their partners that final push, aka ultimatum. Truth is, if someone loves you and wants only you, they know it, if they don’t, then yeah suggesting they choose makes sense, but if they are lazy, they will choose you, or if they are insecure or codependent, again, they will choose to stay, it still doesn’t mean you were their first choice, it only means that you were their best choice at the time. And for a woman to give an ultimatum it means “you either put a ring on it, or I look elsewhere” which cheapens the actual bond, generally it’s the biological clock ticking that prompts women to kick some guy up the rear and get a ring out of it. So hmmm, yeah…I dunno…never seen the whole ultimatum thing go well.

      • Dollycoa says:

This stuff about her threatening to leave him if he didnt marry her, well he could have just left! It was an ultimatum yes but to stop him stringing her along with no I mention of marrying her until someone better came along. More women should do this if they want to get married. Too many women swallow the ‘ oh it’s just a piece of paper’ crap and have children, compromise their career and are left with nothing when their men walk out leaving them with no career and the kids. He could have walked at that point. He didnt. He married her.

    • LBB says:

Leaving like that and the “I love you, but am not in love with you” are classic cheater moves. I have no idea who either of these folks are, that just stuck out to me. Also, she did not hold him at gunpoint to marry her, so I call bullshit on “she gave me ultimatum so I HAD to marry her even if I really did not want to.”

      • Amy Too says:

The ultimatum is usually “if you want to be with me, we need to get married.” So he wanted to keep being with her, therefore they married. It’s not like the ultimatum is “if you don’t marry me, I will kill you right now.”

      • LBB says:

No one forced him to marry her, if he did not want to marry her then he should not have, even if that meant losing her. He went into the marriage with free will and to say now he never wanted to anyway is disingenuous.

    • Nic919 says:

If I am not mistaken I believe that Alice Evans was making problematic tweets a few months ago which showed her support for racist Laurence Fox and she was attacking Meghan for not being nice to the tabloids. I don’t know all the details but I do recall at the time she came off as very white privileged and intolerant.

  2. Tiffany says:

Covid really is bringing out the things we keep bottled up and had other things (like working away from home) to keep them at bay.

I want to believe that the time and isolation is the reason for the breakup and not adultery.

This pandemic I am sure is tough on everyone, from the single person to the longstanding couples.

    • SarahCS says:

I hope that is the case. Her statement is quite something and I hope she doesn’t regret putting that out there later (not because bad stuff comes out, just because it’s so deeply personal).

    • paranormalgirl says:

I have no blessed idea how my husband and I have managed to thrive during the pandemic. I thought for sure we’d kill each other.

  3. lucy2 says:

Serena Williams >>>>>Tom Brady. Also Simone Biles would like a word.

It’s pretty rare to see a man leave his current relationship if there’s not another woman waiting in the wings, so I won’t be surprised. This has to be tough for her and their family, but posting that online…?

    • Darla says:

I would never post that online.

    • whatWHAT? says:

I’m betting that she did that to get out in front of whatever possibly-BS story HE’S going to give.

it’s funny, though…I had totally forgotten about this dude. I remember him being Mr. Fantastic and that’s it. this will be the most press he’s gotten in 15 years.

oh, and F Tom Brady, that MAGAt. Go Chiefs!

      • MyOpinion says:

@ whatWhat, as for Brady and his delusional wife with their hair brained diets and such are both dangerous for society. As for Brady labeled as the greatest athlete, that’s a joke and probably something they started initially hoping to spread it for their financial benefit. I have always thought of him as a douche anyway. No athlete would be considered great would be subject to investigation for deflating footballs, never! As for he and the hat, it’s no surprise as many of the 1% were handed a gift from Agent Orange and his substantial tax liabilities.

      • trashaddict says:

I find it hard to consider Tom Brady and his wife a danger to society, since I basically ignore them. But since you brought it up, Serena Williams all the way.

  4. SarahCS says:

    Go Dominion.

    • Stacy Dresden says:

I know right. I can’t wait to hear more about this suit as it progresses.

      • MyOpinion says:

@ Stacy Dresden, I think Dominian is also going after that delusional attorney Powell as well. I think it’s time that these liars and unscrupulous a$$holes get exactly what’s coming to them. You can’t publicly disparage a company and claim it was their First Amendment right, which is Giulianis defense. What a piece of trash he is! May he go down in history as a disgraceful, lying and disbarred whacko!!

      • trashaddict says:

Powell’s like gasoline on Trump’s fire! God help us if that woman goes any further.

  5. Amy Too says:

Young Maggie Smith looks like the housemaid Gwen from Downton Abbey.

  6. Ewissa says:

My ex did the same.Out of nowhere he came with I can’t live with u anymore – left me with child and moved abroad.Of course didn’t forget that I was cause all of his lows and because of me he doesn’t have any career (u mean that I gave up my career so he can built his and worked only part time to be able to look after child withhout him providing any help at home)
Second day he moved out I find out he moved to other woman’s house cleared my son’s savings.(that my family paid in and I saved there for 5years ) he is only 5.

    • whatWHAT? says:

ugh, I’m so sorry. happened to a friend of mine, too. her husband was a JERK so we were all happy that he split but not happy how he hurt our friend.

woke up one day and told her (after turning 30) “I’m 30 and I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life but I know I don’t want to married to you anymore” and moved across the country. unfortunately she soon married ANOTHER condescending pr*ck that no one likes.

      • Ewissa says:

Yes literally same happened he told me after 13 years together before Valentines day…than I have to take his abuse whole lockdown how buy taking care of him and our child and working I made his life miserable.

      • trashaddict says:

He sounds like a prick. You need a zoom First Wives’ Club.

    • ravynrobyn says:

      @ Ewissa-oh, I’m SO sorry this happened. I cannot even imagine 😥

      • Ewissa says:

Thanks. Its hard as I have no family here and especially now during pandemic I’m worried what if I will be sick or worse who will take care of my child…
I hate him that I lost all those years with him and took his abuse (mental and verbal )
Only good thing that came out of this is my child.Him and his family bullied me for years but I’m firm believer in karma and that he will get what he deserves for all.

    • Stacy Dresden says:

      How awful!

  7. Sandra says:

I thought Alice was Angela from The Office from her photo. I was like, HOW DARE YOU?

  8. Spicecake38 says:

I spent the longest time thinking this guys name was *loan*,that’s all I got.

  9. Christin says:

I recognize Alice from one of my favorite cable network holiday movies – The Christmas Card.

    Such a sad situation.

  10. NYStateofMind says:

Who are these two and how do you pronounce him first name?

    • Lady D says:

Ee-ehn. Can be spelt Ian. You can also look up the word, there is a megaphone picture/button beside the word that will pronounce the word or phrase for you. Just make sure you have your volume on. I’ve found it invaluable for learning to pronounce words. Does almost all languages too.

    • Mia4s says:

What little experience I’ve had with the name is it sounds like Yo-han. (Yo, like Yo-yo). There’s a journalist with the same name. The last name is “Griffith” (Welsh is a RIDE of a language for English speakers 😁)

As to who they are? I know they met on 102 Dalmations. He was Horatio Hornblower, and in the Chris Evans Fantastic Four. Her I don’t think I know from anything?

    • Kebbie says:

His name is pronounced Yo-awn (or yo-on) Griffith. If you Google “Ioan Gruffudd interview” you can find videos of TV hosts introducing him and saying his name.

  11. Emm says:

Nikki Haley and all the whiny babies that are the GOP. The hypocrisy makes my head spin. They get butt hurt over everything and call it their religious freedom and right but would never extend that right to anyone outside of their own.

  12. Doglas3000 says:

A close friend of my husband’s worked on big block buster films as a script supervisor/ continuity. When I met them, I asked out if the films they worked on which actor/actress was the biggest diva and she said Alice Evans by far. She said Alice wasn’t even a star, but got lucky to take Jolie Richardson’s place in 102 Dalmatians which co-starred Ioan. She Ioan was lovely and would apologize for Alice’s antics. Also, if any women looked at Ioan, Alice was super jealous/protective. So him wanting to leave Alice is not a surprise at all. There are three sides to every story, his/hers/the truth. Her tweeting out their relationship issues is not good for their kids and a very “Amanda Palmer” thing to do (when Neil Gaiman left her and their son in New Zealand right before the first lockdown). If Ioan is working mostly abroad through year, that takes a toll on a relationship. I’ve never heard anything nice about Alice throuiut the years, but have always heard nice things about him.

    • blah says:

her response feels manipulative. Come on girls lets go, daddy doesn’t love us any more!

    • Liquorice says:

She’s over the top in her IG. Seems really thirsty. However have no doubt she’s in a rough spot and feel badly for her. She needs to get off social media and deal with this with a therapist and the help of loved ones. Poor kids having to deal with such a parent (playing it out in public on social media).

Also apparently he got into her Twitter account and deleted her “announcement of breakup” tweet. She didn’t delete it. She responded in the affirmative to some tweet that suggested she was doing all this to grieve and accept the reality of his leaving.

  13. Wiglet Watcher says:

    So, for a breakdown..
Alice might be a jealous, racist b level actress with a Diva level ego that gave her husband an ultimatum for marriage.

And loan might be a man that has been unhappy and working abroad for some time and ready to leave his wife.

If he cheated at all before telling her he’s out… he’s awful. If she is angry and acting like he’s just abandoning her and their children for revenge, she’s awful.

    They both don’t sound great.

  14. DS9 says:

I used to have a hard time telling Dominic West and Ioan Gruffudd apart.

    So there’s that…

    • Ang says:

In the last photo, yes! The first photo…Marky Mark and Angela!? I’ve never seen this man before.

    • chimes@midnight says:

DS9, me too! I thought it was D. West for a minute and was utterly not surprised. Then I realized it was Horatio Hornblower himself.

      • DS9 says:

        Dominic West wasn’t Horatio Hornblower?

        Oh.

Honestly, they don’t look a ton like each other anymore but they did about ten to fifteen years ago… okay, fine, 20 years ago back in the King Arthur days lol

  15. JanetDR says:

Just musing over the end of my marriage when my ex came home and told me he didn’t love me anymore and there was someone else. The kids were 2 and 4 and I was a stay at home mom. It was as hard as hell. We didn’t have social media or every the internet yet, so I called my friends and family when I needed to talk and later when he and his new wife tried to make it all my fault and trashed talked me to everyone they had to do it one person at a time. Much better than this mess. And for all we know, this situation could be the exact opposite.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

I really hate when the new party comes in presenting their opinion as facts. Like your ex husbands new wife. What gain does she have for this? What does she get for trashing a woman that raises her new husbands children and deals with such negativity? These people have empty lives.

      • JanetDR says:

Right?! Like if you two are so happy…. She was a substitute teacher at their school and I think wanted people to think that she was responsible for their success.

  16. dlc says:

Her post is odd. Oddly worded, and odd to want to put that in the public sphere. Also, at first I thought it was the chick from star trek beyond, but that is Alice Eve.

  17. Original Penguin says:

I always heard Alice was a diva. But I did wonder if his fans made her out to be worse than she was. But she sounds like her views are of the Laurence Fox crowd. And they’re good friends with Piers Morgan- so I’m not sure she’s nice. And if he’s stayed with her for 14years I imagine he shares those views and friends and is probably just as awful as her.

  18. Coo Coo Catchoo says:

Hey, Alice: you’re obviously pissed, but, please – keep your relationship issues between you and your partner. Don’t drag those kids into it. Time to adult.
That having been said – she sounds overbearing and manipulative, with terrible taste in political candidates and friends.

  19. Leah says:

I remember him from Titanic and there is something I remember about his wife but I don’t think it’s positive. It was something I read about her, anyway.

That said, to flip the subject….you go Dominion! Take Rudy for everything he’s got.

  20. Ann says:

I’m so out of the loop. I have no idea who these people are!

    • Original Penguin says:

They were hot and famous for about 20 mins in 2000. They’re buddies with Piers Morgan and his wife. That’s all you need to know

  21. Bex says:

I remember when she claimed some fans were mean to her on a fan site dedicated to Ioan. I don’t know why the girlfriend of a celeb would choose to read fansites AND interact with the people there. That’s weird to me.
    https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/gruff-tough-after-alice-blast-2249109

    • Liquorice says:

Spent 20 minutes I’ll never get back scrolling through her IG. Her IG started out like a fan site to him except he must have told her to stop posting so many pics of him as she mentions he will ask her to take this or that pic down. Then it’s all very lonely-wife posts. One post says he’ll be gone 10 months. It’s bad enough dating an actor, I’d imagine, but worse when you have school-age kids whom you can’t uproot like snap (Angelina Jolie has a huge budget for tutors). If I had been in her position I’d never have had kids and would’ve concentrated on a career outside acting (which is a career based on luck and chance) and upskilling myself for a career you can do as a contractor from anywhere, like coding or freelance marketing.

I agree with the other posters: IMO he probably has someone on the side already. She says on Twitter that basically it’s been 6 months of back and forth on whether he would leave or stay and he’s finally decided.

  22. Ewissa says:

I know him as Mr.Fantastic from Fantastic Four. And from H Weinstein scandal as he said HW blacklisted him and basically ruined his career when he exposed HW was sexually abusive to his wife.

    • E.D says:

Wow I did not know Harvey Weinstein blackballed men as well as all those many, many women but this all tracks as Ioan’s Gruffudd’s star was on the rise after ‘Hornblower’ hit big in the U.K and so he went to the US and was in a few big franchise movies and then it all suddenly seemed to come to a crashing halt.

I loved him in the tv show ‘Forever’ which was brutally cancelled after only 1 season despite good ratings.

    • Mimmy says:

HW did not blacklisted him, he blacklisted her for refusing to go with him and when Alice came forward publicly he supported his wife Alice.

  23. Meg says:

When my niece got divorced her divorce lawyer said that in 24 years of practice he had never seen a man leave his wife and home without another woman being there to go to. Niece hadn’t a clue her husband was seeing anyone else when he left…..he was!

    • Liquorice says:

It’s in the leaving partner’s interest not to disclose as infuriating the wife/husband can make an amicable split even more challenging (money, custody, etc).

  24. Alexandrajane says:

That tattoo is simply dreadful. Astonishing awful.
