Will VP Kamala Harris appear on the Sussexes’ Archewell podcast? Eh.

Biden Sworn-in as 46th President of the United States

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first Archewell podcast came out just before New Year’s. It feels like that was months ago! January 2021 has been a whole-ass journey. Anyway, there was an expectation that Meghan and Harry would be releasing a second podcast soon enough, but they have not, at this time. I wonder again if M&H were a little bit surprised by how time-consuming it is to just produce one podcast? Plus, they’re like, doing interviews and featuring exclusive clips of celebrities and authors and sh-t. I’m sure that their first pod took hours and hours of labor. Anyway, at least one royal commentator is dreaming about who will be featured in the Sussexes’ next podcast. The dream is, apparently, for Meghan to speak to Vice President Kamala Harris. Um.

Kamala Harris may be a guest on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s podcast Archewell, according to a royal commentator. There has been speculation that the Duchess of Sussex may be wading into US politics, but she has so far stopped short of any directly partisan comments. While stepping down as a senior royal means she can express herself more politically, there are still limits, as she retains her Duchess title and HRH status ‒ although the latter should not be used commercially. During the US election, Meghan and Harry encouraged citizens to vote, while openly opposing “misinformation” and “hate” online, which many interpreted as being anti-Donald Trump comments.

Meghan chose not to congratulate Vice President Kamala Harris on her win in the election, although it is clear that the two women admire each other. In her interview with Gloria Steinem, Meghan strongly hinted at her support for Ms Harris, saying the “representation” of people of colour in politics “excited” her. Meanwhile, Ms Harris has made comments in admiration and solitary with the Duchess. When Ms Harris won the election with Joe Biden, popular friends of Meghan’s including Oprah Winfrey and Priyanka Chopra congratulated her, but Meghan did not do so ‒ publicly, at least.

However, Rosa Silverman wrote in the Telegraph that there may be plans for collaboration on the horizon, such as a podcast.

One source told her: “I think there’s a real feeling of solidarity between the two women.”

She added that Ms Harris is a serious politician and not usually one who chooses to rub shoulders with celebrities too often. The source said: “I don’t think she’s interested in popular game-playing,” but added that the opportunity to work with Meghan might be too good to pass up.

Ms Silverman suggested a podcast might be the answer. She wrote: “Why this could work: It would serve as a one-off collaboration to discuss and promote some shared aims and interests before Harris becomes too busy to enter into such enterprises with figures like Meghan.

[From The Daily Express]

I don’t see how it could or would happen, but I totally understand why royal commentators want it to happen. They want to attack Meghan for “getting political” and they also want to continue their weird campaign of assuming that Meghan is friends with all of the prominent Black people in America. It’s clear that VP Harris and Meghan are on each other’s radars and that will probably be enough for now. Don’t take this the wrong way and I don’t mean to insult Meghan and Harry but… I would hope that the Vice President of the United States has better things to do with her time than appear on the Archewell podcast.

I could see MVP Harris speaking to the 19th about her historic position and what she’d like to accomplish during the Biden presidency, but I don’t see her doing an Archewell podcast when there are so many things the administration needs to contend with right now.

    • Moose says:

I would like to hear Dr Jill Biden on the podcast to discuss Invictus Games etc… she has an existing friendship with Harry, and it would blow the minds of BRF & RRs!

    • PrincessK says:

I expect to see the Sussexes invited to the White House at some stage.

  2. CidyKitty(CidySmiley) says:

I mean, while I would love to hear a conversation between the two of them I’m in agreement that our VP has a little too much work to do to be on podcasts, I think it would be a little tone deaf on both ends to do this as Vp Harris has a lot of important work to do concerning the state of the US and Meg and Co. Definitely realize that.

I could see something like this if the state of the universe were to calm down, but anytime soon is too soon.

  3. Bex says:

All this tells me is the UK tabloid press are already showing their hand as to their next means of attack against Meghan.

If they had any sense, they’d hold their cards closer to their chest, but since they’re morons who have an inate inability to read a damn room, they’re left looking vindictive over a situation THEY chose to create.

  4. JT says:

I think the fact that the BM even thinks that H&M could have VP Kamala Harris on their podcast is a win. When have the Keens ever been discussed in this way? H&M’s relationships with the Obama’s, Biden’s, and now Harris kind of makes this story seem like a no brainer, especially after Harry’s appearance at the inauguration. I get why they come up with it. The BM clearly think that Harry and Meghan are powerful ,although I’m sure the media don’t think of it that way but that’s what the subtext says to me. All they can say about w&k is that they’re keen.

    • Jegede says:

      Exactly.

Harry’s friendship with the Bidens and Kamala/Meghan’s mutual love-in is very much on notice.

      And a power shift maybe?
I mean Harry’s Fast Company interview didn’t generate the number of bitter sneers from columnists as I expected here – not even a Piers Moron rant.

      Though it’s still early days.

      • Amy Bee says:

Piers Morgan’s wife sneered at Harry on his behalf in the Telegraph. However, I agree there hasn’t been much discussion about Harry’s interview and I think it’s because he talks about misinformation which we all know the British press plays a major role in it.

      • Jegede says:

Actually, considering how vicious Celia Walden is about the Sussexes, her recent piece was tame in comparison.

And there’s been no enraged Karen/Chad write ups post-Fast Company interview, from the RW columnists in the Times & Heil, as there often is anytime Harry and Meghan cough.

But as I said, it’s early days.

  5. Snuffles says:

I don’t think she will appear on the podcast but I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next year or two Meghan will support a Biden Administration initiative that aligns with work they are already doing.

But, yeah, the RRs are just trying to stir up shit to be fake outraged about.

  6. Lila says:

The country is a mess, of course she ain’t appearing on a podcast right now. H and M are not dummies and know that. This is probably another strategy to attack her. People will complain and say she’s being “political!!!!” and when MVP Harris doesn’t appear, they’ll claim “Meghan was snubbed”.

  7. Rage647 says:

The VP of the United States is not a role that has set duties. it doesn’t really have that many clear duties! You just there in case the President dies or can’t lead anymore. Obama did lots of podcasts and interviews during his presidency, so I don’t see why Harris can’t do the same.

    • Snuffles says:

The VP roles varies depending on who the President is and they type of relationship they have. Obama and Biden were very much a TEAM. While Pence was largely a sycophant.

There are far too many crises going on in the US right now for Kamala to show up on a podcast.

      • lucy2 says:

I would imagine Biden is patterning their relationship after his own with Obama, and I don’t see VP Harris accepting the role unless he promised her a big voice in the admin.

I could see her eventually doing a podcast like this (she did Hillary Clinton’s before the election – worth a listen, especially when she talks about her mother and all that she accomplished too). But right now, no, too many crises to deal with.

    • Maria says:

      I agree with Rage647.
She’s not producing it, so it’s not a major time commitment for her.
The optics wouldn’t be super great to some people (we know who), but it’s hardly a terrible idea.
And as far as the President and Vice President being a team goes I’m not sure how her dropping by for an hour would impact that.

That said, I doubt this is true.

  8. Harla says:

I could see VP Harris appearing on Archewell in a couple of years but I think her plate is pretty full at the moment. That would also give Meghan more podcasts under her belt and give time for Archewell to become the powerhouse that I believe it will be.

  9. LillyfromLilooet says:

I think a summer time interview would be perfect.

  10. Sofia says:

Yeah while I don’t think a podcast appearance is totally out of the question, it’s not going to be happening now.

  11. 809Matriarch says:

My only takeaway from this is there is a dearth of Meghan/Harry news right now and so the BM is doing what they do best – speculating on and then spinning a non-story from speculative ideation.

  12. Amy Bee says:

This story is just weird all round. First of all it comes out of a paper that’s supposed be serious i.e. The Telegraph and secondly that it has nothing better to do than dream up the next guest on Harry and Meghan’s podcast. As far as I’m aware the aim of the podcast is highlight issues and people at the grassroots/community level. I don’t see them talking to active politicians.

The British press is really struggling for information on Harry and Meghan and I’m loving it.

    • Brit says:

The problem with the BM and RF is that they lack foresight. They clearly believed Trump would win and since Harry and Meghan do have connections and friendships in Washington and celebrities, business people etc in the US, they are trying to see what sticks and also because those two were their greatest soft power diplomats. Harry was sent all over the world because of his charisma and Meghan being Biracial could’ve given the UK benefits especially with the new administration. That picture in Arlington must’ve sent shock waves in the BM because that means Harry’s well respected in the US military as well. They all screwed themselves knowing they’ve lost money makers and their greatest assets because it’s not the Cambridge’s or Cornwalls.

  13. Cecilia says:

VP harris might not be on but i hope forever FLOTUS michelle obama will be🤗

  14. GuestwithCat says:

I’d love for Vice President Harris to appear on the Archewell podcast whenever she can spare the time. I think it’s important for her to get word out to the public what she and President Biden are facing from her close in perspective. There’s so much internal strife and such a huge mess and disarray yet the spirit and optimism of this administration is palpable. So I’d like to know what they’re seeing internally that has them so positive.

I’m breathless at the pace with which they are tackling so many varied issues. And I want to know what part VP Harris is playing. I would not fault her if she’s just doing a lot of watching and learning about the job. She’s with a man who did the job for two terms and can pass so much wisdom and experience to her. If she could spare even 20 minutes for actual talk time that would be amazing. The would probably have to narrow the discussion down to one subject. Like maybe racism within the Congress and how it’s hampering their initiatives to tackle racism in society and law enforcement, especially.

  15. booboocita says:

The Sussexes’ popularity and notoriety are such that I imagine any number of persons with nonprofit initiatives to promote will want to be featured on their podcast. They won’t hurt for interviewees, whether or not MVP Harris appears.

It’s petty of me (that’s who I am), but I would love for the Bidens to invite the Sussexes to the White House for a state dinner — not as UK representatives, but as the CEOs of Archewell. I’d like that partially because it would give us all a chance to see Meghan dress to the nines like we know she can, and partially as a poke in the eye to the RR and the royal family. Hee!

    • Moose says:

I would also love to see them at the white house as private citizens not representing Petty B. I would also like Joe Biden to turn down an invitation to a state banquet with Petty P at BP so he is not used as a pawn in her PR games. If this happens I suspect BP will try to push Joe to host W&K at a state dinner at the White House which I hope he will also reject as they have absolutely nothing in common and W&K are nowhere near statesman like… H&M at the White House as private citizens will send shockwaves through BRF & RRs!

  16. L4frimaire says:

This is so random. It’s like the UK tabloids are creating a wish list of stories they hope will happen to rile up their base. We have major stuff going on in DC right now and Meghan is minding her business. Also, why would they write “ Meghan chose not to congratulate Vice President Kamala Harris on her win in the election”? Next they’ll be calling it a snub. She is a private citizen and has no social media. They have no idea what she did or didn’t do, nor is she obligated to say anything about anyone unless she wants to. I notice this a lot in the tabloids over there and some royal podcasts. It is that they are trying to take the role the Sussexes had in the UK,which was public and an arm of the monarchy, and trying to translate it directly to their lives in the US. It makes no sense. They are not public officials, and have no role in things like politics. They aren’t obligated to meet or congratulate elected officials, or thank frontline workers or anything. It’s great and impactful when they do that, but they do it as private citizens showing their support when they choose to. I guess they are public figures in the sense they are well known and formerly had an official role in the UK, but that is no longer the case. They are just two people setting up their lives and taking care of their business, that’s it. Those back in the UK can’t adjust to this, which is why the royals over there are still trying to look like they’re doing stuff and starting this or that project to “ compete”. It’s like they might as well be trying to compete with the newest startup or entrepreneur, or someone who sits on the board of many foundations and advocates for their passion projects. It has nothing to do with them and totally different goals and outcomes. These types of clickbait articles are ridiculous and just word fillers.

  17. Mia says:

They’re so starved for Meghan news lol. I’m glad Kaiser brought up the ‘Meghan knows all famous black people’ thing because they definitely do that and it’s weird.

I too, am impressed at the pace VP/POTUS working. It’s a joy to read about. No lie, I had to sit down and weep with releif about the Paris Climate Agreement, Keystone pipeline etc. I’m part of bird watching twitter and I can’t tell you how broken hearted people were about tr*mps attitude towards the environment.
Side note about bird watching twitter: the UK birdwatchers I saw were *really* pissed at Prince William for being patron for a bird conservation charity. Grouse shooting is understandably dispised on birdwatching twitter.

I think podcasting and content creation is generally much harder than it looks, but I also think H&M are organised and have a kickass leakless team of professionals. In Hollywood they say you’re as good as the team behind you, and the “new courtiers” will be a huge help with workload surprises. They’ve gone from palace aides with prestige obsessions to media production pros. I’m sure they all have a lot on their plates.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

I think Harry and Meghan are probably going to focus on specials for their own Archewell hosted podcast so we will get a special occasionally. I am guessing that they are going to produce other podcast under Archewell hosted by others. I would have no problem in KH stopping by for a chat tying in what H/M are trying to do with any of their focus with how the administration is handling the same.

  18. Over it says:

Well if petty can send her private letter to President B and it not be label political interference, then I guess Harry and Megs can talk to whoever political figure they choose to . After all it’s a free country and like the palace likes to remind us , they are no longer working royals . Hence they can do whatever that damm well please and or they take the stupid useless, meaningless titles back, then so be it

  19. Brit says:

I’m sorry but what I get from these stories especially the ones highlighting Harry’s connection to the Bidens, the respect he has from the commonwealth and Meghan-Kamala connection, the Obama, Oprah, Tyler Perry connections, I think the family is realizing how powerful and influential they really are and the government and family need them back. A US tour with the Sussexes would’ve been a huge global attraction if it wasn’t for Covid, jealous family members and racist tabloids running them out. They really bit off more than they can chew and it seems like they’re switching up strategies because the Sussexes are untouchable in America and their detractors know it.

  20. whateveryousay says:

This is random and is not a thing I can see happening at all this year. Lord.

  21. Catherine says:

Why do you write there was an Harry and Meghan to produce another episode soon? By who? Based on what? The fact that they produce their first one so quickly was astonishing. Typically, that not how it goes. But I think since this has been such an extraordinary year it was a great idea for them to do the episode they did. A wrap up 2020, look ahead to 2021 theme. When the holiday special was announced there was no indication given about the specific format/schedule of future episodes. There certainly was no indication that they would produce another episode soon. As for the Kamala story. This is one of those things that the BM throws at the wall to see if they can generate attention. So much has been made and a lot of attention has been given in recent days about Harry’s connection to the Biden’s so why not go for a Kamala- Meghan story. When the Spotify deal was first announced there were numerous stories about the Obamas being on their podcast. The British Media has no access. No one in the household can leak about Harry and Meghan’s work so they speculate and present that speculation as based on some knowledge instead of it just being piled out of their ……… If these speculations come true they can act like they had sources. If they don’t come true they just move on. There is no downside for them.

  22. tcbc says:

There are other media producers who would get the big names from the Biden administration first. The Obamas, Oprah, the Pod Save America guys, etc.

  23. Christine says:

“During the US election, Meghan and Harry encouraged citizens to vote, while openly opposing “misinformation” and “hate” online, which many interpreted as being anti-Donald Trump comments.”

This sentence is the problem with the entire British system of being, and now that I think of it, the world. “Many interpreted”???!!!!! Honestly, if you can’t stand up and say, “I am not okay with this”, we are headed for another world war. This is not an issue of diplomacy, or manners, or really anything other than not wanting completely crazy people ruling the most powerful country in the world. One side of the election was heartfelt, and the other goosed idiots into storming the Capital and killing people. MANY INTERPRETED? Stop talking about the stiff upper lip, and build up your spine, you need one. And by “you”, I mean the Daily Express, and for f’s sake, anyone who thinks that Harry or Meghan, or the rest of the world, would be on the side of Trump levels of crazy. Legitimately, hire a life coach, or something. You are on the wrong side of living.
