Jennifer Lopez covers the latest issue of Allure, in what was an interview done to promote Marry Me, which was supposed to be out this year but got pushed back until next year. Of course, Jennifer doesn’t care. She’s also promoting a million other things, like her beauty line and new music and everything else. Jennifer is probably one of the most “teflon” celebrities out there – bad stories simply don’t stick, and at this point, the only “bad” thing that’s really remained reputationally for Jen is her unlucky-in-love, unable-to-be-single life. That being said, she seems to have found her match in Alex Rodriguez, and I’ve noticed a real change in her since they got together. You can read the full Allure interview here. Some highlights:
The waifs: “When I came on the scene, it was kind of the time of the waif and everybody had to be stick thin. It was like, ‘Well, you’re not. How do you feel?’ I’m like, ‘I feel great about it!’”
On the Super Bowl Halftime show last year: “The idea was to show the best of, not just myself as an artist, but the best of women. The best of Latinos. I felt that I represented Latinos, I represented women, and I represented people in my age group in a light that was very positive and strong.”
On the pandemic: “I mean, the first part was like, ‘Wow, this is different.’ I think we all were filled with anxiety. We were in the Twilight Zone, like everybody else. I started trying to do things together. We would play base- ball outside or paint together. We never get to do stuff like that. I was trying to take advantage of the time. I miss being creative and running on 150. But Alex, of all people, was like, ‘I love it. I love being at home. I love doing my Zooms. I love knowing the kids are there, and you’re there all the time.’ It has been actually really good. We got to work on ourselves. We did therapy. I think it was really helpful for us in our relationship.”
Whether she ever sits on the sofa and eat potato chips: “I do! I do sit on the couch and eat potato chips! The thing is not to get too used to it, because it’s so easy and so fun.”
Being snubbed for an Oscar nomination for Hustlers: “I was talking about this the other day. [My production partner] Elaine [Goldsmith-Thomas] made a post where she listed all the things I had been nominated for and won that season. And when it came to the Oscars, it was so obviously absent. It was a sting. I was like, ‘Okay, when you’re supposedly in everybody else’s mind supposed to be nominated and you’re not, what does that mean? Is it really real? Are the other ones real and this one isn’t?’ It came to a point where I was like, ‘This is not why I do this. I don’t do this to have 10 Oscars sitting on my mantel or 20 Grammys.’ The point is creating and the joy that I get from the things I get to put out in the world that entertain and inspire and empower people. I think my life is about more than awards.”
Going to BLM protests with her kids: “I said, ‘I want you guys to make me the signs because Mommy wants to get out there too.’ I’m not used to being in big crowds like that — I’m always on the stage. [My life is] car to back door to security to this to that. It was scary. I got a little anxiety, like, ‘How do you get out of the crowd?’ Once I got [into it], to be in the masses like that, I loved it. Like, ‘Wow, there’s a movement happening.’ So many people, different ages, races — it was a beautiful thing. We can’t just keep living our lives and thinking everything’s going to work itself out. No, it’s not going to work out. We have to get involved. We have to make changes. That was why 2020, as difficult and scary as it was, was so necessary. What we realized is that we’re all in this together. This is about our kids growing up in a world where they feel comfortable, where things are equal, and there’s more kindness and love than hate and division.”
It’s slightly amusing to me that Jennifer’s most immediate concern while attending BLM rallies with her kids is having easy access to an exit route! But I do think it’s cool that her kids went to her and told her that THEY wanted to go to the rallies and she was the one joining them and encouraging them to make signs. And I love what she said about coming out of the waif era. It’s really true – I always give so much credit to Jennifer and Beyonce for their then-radical self-acceptance and self-love of their curvier bodies. They both changed the way curvy girls felt about their own bodies.

The Queen of filters and photoshop……..she is just as bad as Kylie Jenner when it comes to filters.
I wish she was more secure with herself. She has accomplished so much, yet can’t be alone more than a week, and has to post desperate selfies all the time.
“Snubbed for an Oscar nom”? Does she still think that? hahahahhahaha
Yep. And bringing all this up again now, 25 years later, while the waif trend has passed and she has the coveted-figure-du-jour? Total humblebrag.
Yeah, that was the consensus everywhere though, that she was snubbed.
Not everywhere. I think most people know she is not an Oscar caliber actress.
You’re being salty PSL. She was objectively snubbed, her name was on all the lists. Just because you don’t like her doesn’t mean you should retcon the awards buzz around her performance
Right?? Thanks Blinkbanana, so salty they must be parched haha
I’m fine with J Lo but the photoshopping seems so passé. I crave the reality of aging beautifully. Like Sophia Lauren or Catherine O’Hara.
Sophia Loren is NOT aging graciously-she is SCARY Toxed and blown up with fillers…
Her staying power is commendable. I just wish she would be honest about how much work she’s had done, that is a different body today than the Fly Girl had.
She is definitely in good physical shape but the age has caught up now,she went a whole decade where she genuinely looked ten years younger. But now she over photshops, filters you can see in candid pap shots what she truly looks like now.
She stole the work and voice of black women and claimed it to be her own, thats why Mariah Carrey still doesn’t know her.
yes, and I hate her behaviour last year during lockdown – getting gyms to open especially for her, hosting parties… while I am not as well known as mariah, I don’t know JLo either.
Did i watch a different Hustlers, that movie nor her performance was no where near ‘oscar worthy’. She is no Mery Streep for sure but she has had way better performances than that movie i.e shades of blue, the cell, enough, angel eyes.
We watched about 20 minutes of Hustlers before we turned it off. It was awful.
Agreed! Personally, I think she stinks at acting. She should stick to singing, and I’m not that fond of her singing either.
JLo is problematic for me. I really liked her for a long time, but she can be such a snob. That old interview where she talked about “her craft” and how other actresses cheapen it was gross–she won’t ever live that down and honestly she shouldn’t. Especially considering she’s barely above average in her industry. She is a passable actress and singer but she’s got this arrogant attitude like she’s better than a lot of people and it’s very unbecoming. There are more talented people with smaller egos. There is A LOT of evidence out there that she is not a woman who supports other women.
My biggest gripe with her is her insistence on trying to appear 20 years younger than she is. She looks amazing in real life, puts a lot of time and effort into her appearance, but she does not look like these overly edited photos. There are lots of pics out there that show the natural, normal lines on her face, but she still wants to put this alien, ageless image out there and that’s really hard to respect. Aren’t we trying to move in a direction where 50 year old women don’t have to feel like they can’t age? She not only doesn’t do much to empower women, she actively does things that are harmful in this area.
Her past few and upcoming movies, she has prioritized female directors and writers and she has even made it a challenge, she also promotes up and coming female dancers, I really can’t see how you can say she’s not super pro women.
She has a history of stealing work from black women using their voices to lip sink on songs that originally featured a black woman, that was erased to advance her career as a singer like Ashanti and Christina Millian as well as several other less known singers.
Overrated. Only movie I ever enjoyed her in was Monster-in-Law and she was still overshadowed by the magnificent Jane Fonda and hilarious and adorable Wanda Sykes. Jennifer didn’t ruin it.
Out Of Sight with her and George Clooney is a fantastic movie! She was great in it. But other than that, I have not been impressed by her acting skills.
We used to watch ‘In Living Color’ and JLO was a fly girl who stood out like crazy, I mean, she was great, dancing her butt and energy off! That was 30 years ago too. She was about 10 lbs heavier but it was muscle and she was beautiful and strong. My hubs, 5 year old son, and I would cuddle in bed to watch, nobody moved while she was on.
BREAKING NEWS! Page Six is reporting JLo and ARoid have called off the engagement and have split “indefinitely”.
I knew it would happen. It was just a matter of time. Even someone who has lost their sight could have seen that coming.!
No big surprise there – two ginormous egos, one with a wandering pecker, is a recipe for disaster.
My friend just texted me that she an ARod broke up? 💔

I remember the VMAs when in was in high school hating my body and beyonce performing so confident and talented showing her legs and the next day i vividly remember pulling out that skirt i told myself i couldn’t wear before because i didn’t have thin model legs. That does have a positive effect on ne.
