Skeet Ulrich, 51, is dating his former ‘Riverdale’ costar, 31-year-old Lucy Hale

Skeet Ulrich visits Build Studio in New York promoting 'Riverdale'

Skeet Ulrich and Lucy Hale met while filming Riverdale, although she left Riverdale for her own spinoff show, Katy Keene. He’s 51, she’s 31. She was about seven years old when Skeet entered pop culture with performances in the 1996 movies Scream and The Craft. And now they’re apparently dating??

Skeet Ulrich appears to have a “pretty little” girlfriend: Lucy Hale. The “Scream” star, 51, and the former “Pretty Little Liars” actress, 31, were photographed on a PDA-heavy lunch date in Los Angeles on Sunday — and the May-December pair appeared to be completely smitten with one another.

In one of the photos, Hale and Ulrich are seen sharing a kiss as they wait for their food at the Sweet Butter Cafe. In another, the actors playfully hold on to each other’s hands. In addition to lunch, the stars were photographed going for a touchy-feeling stroll through Los Angeles, where they were pictured wearing face masks, blue jeans and sunglasses.

Page Six has reached out to reps for Hale and Ulrich for comment. It’s possible the pair met through their involvement in the CW series “Riverdale” and “Katy Keene.” Ulrich played Forsythe Pendleton Jones II on “Riverdale” up until Season 4, and Hale starred in “Katy Keene,” which is a “Riverdale” spinoff.

I mean, everyone is legal and it’s not like he’s 50 years old and he’s dating a teenager. I’m not being an apologist for this relationship, but a 31-year-old woman can make her own dating choices without MY input. I do wonder if Lucy is a bit like me – maybe she has a dirtbag problem. Maybe she always falls for the wrong guy, or the guy who was a minor ‘90s heartthrob, or the guy who literally changed his name to SKEET (his birth name is Bryan Ray Trout). Oh, and dude is the father of 20-year-old twins! His kids are closer in age to Lucy than he is. Anyway, God bless and Godspeed. I think this is a big yikes but it’s really not for me to judge!

  1. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Can these men NEVER date age-appropriately?

  2. Laughysaphy says:

    Oh my god PUPPY SLING.

    • Jess says:

My first thought was that sling! I have a little 5 pound maltipoo and she can only make it about a mile on walks before she refuses to move and I have to carry her home. A sling is so damn extra but I need it, lol

      • Charfromdarock says:

I have a 6lb Maltese and I *always* end up having to carry him home. I’ve thought about a baby carrier.

      • Nic says:

I got one years ago, I think off of Amazon. From what I remember it wasn’t very expensive either.

  3. Lady Luna says:

I can’t believe he’s 51 years old. I feel old now. But if she’s happy, who cares.

    • lucky says:

same same. I LOVED him when I was a teen… meh, whatever. I feel like one’s 30′s are really their own to use as they wish…

    • whatWHAT? says:

      I can. he looks it.

was he a heavy drinker? because he’s aged like one.

and yeah, this coupling doesn’t bother me TOO much because she’s over 30. adult who can make adult decisions.

      • lucky says:

oh no! haha! He was always sort of handsome adjacent, but I like that! I still thinks he is good looking, ha!

  4. EMc says:

My closest friend married a man 25 years older than her. She met him when we were 22, he was her boss. He is my moms age. Is he a good guy and does he treat her right? Eh, sometimes. He used to, when he was trying to lock her down. Does she regret it because now shes 35 and he’s retired and has completely different goals? Absolutely. She always went for older men, and while I don’t understand it, it was her choice. It happens a lot and people have successful relationships, but I’m watching her sacrifice what she wants and it is painful to see.

    • Embee says:

Spot on. It’s all fun and games until he’s ready to retire and she’s busy in the prime of her career. Lived it. Not fun

      • EMc says:

Sorry, Embee. Its painful to watch. I can’t imagine how it must have felt to live through it. It sounds like you came out on the other side? So I’m happy for you! She is, unfortunately, still living it. And I see no end in sight.

      • Embee says:

How kind of you EMC! I am choosing to see it as a special time that has passed. He wasn’t the love of my life but we were good to each other while it lasted. I feel guilt about ending it but guilt is preferable to resentment so…

    • molly says:

Yep. I have an aunt who married her 25 years older professor. Now he’s in his late 70s with terrible health and requires full time care after a stroke. All she wants to do is travel and spend time with her empty nest friends, and she’s tied to this incredibly draining life she no longer wants.

    • K says:

My friend married a man right after we finished college who was her father’s good friend and peer. He wasn’t rich or handsome, but I think she wanted to marry a guy who reminded her of her beloved father. She’s now in her 30′s and fit, but he’s nearly died already from heart issues due to sedentary lifestyle (retirement), age and obesity. Her stepchildren are older than her. I mean, I wouldn’t want that kind of arrangement, but they seem to love each other.

    • Ann says:

My cousin is my age and her husband, whom she met when she was 21, is 20 years older than we are. He looks very young for his age, always did. I don’t get it but they are still together with three kids and she seems fine, luckily. I think him being so youthful in looks (and health) helps a lot.

    • Juju says:

I’m in my 30s now and usually date older men but only the ones who still have a full life. However I’m very much aware of the problems that come with it. I couldn’t have imagined it in my early 20s. I think people should live their youth and explore life and themselves. Dating someone much older at such a young age is just something I really wouldn’t recommend.

  5. Emily says:

    I don’t blame her.
And they were hardly co-stars. She guest starred once before her spin-off show. It’s not like he played her dad :P

  6. Ms. says:

I can’t get worked up about a 51 year old dating someone 31, on principle. She is not a child. There is a huge difference between a 41 year old and a 21 year old (also not a child but hardly wizened, much of the time) and a 51 year old and a 31 year old. Intergenerational relationships can have challeneges, but so can all relationships. The bigger challenge would dating a dirtbag.

    • Jill says:

Absolutely. I feel once you are past 30, age differences are much less of a big deal. It’s not like he’s in a nursing home resident dating a 20 yr old.

    • Jellybean says:

I don’t care, they are both adults. I just wish people would be consistent. Sam Taylor Johnson was 42 when she directed the 18 year old Aaron and then went straight into a relationship with him. If the genders were reversed, whatever they said, it would be seen as an abuse of power and/or grooming. Skeet and Lucy are unremarkable in comparison.

  7. OriginalLala says:

I hope it works out – based on my own (bad) experiences with older men, they like us young for a reason, and it’s usually not a good thing.

  8. Devs says:

im sorry i would “date” him and i’m her age. by date i mean….yknow.
he is not boyfriend material and he is a loser dating someone they much younger but he is hot/i would do it for nostalgia
at least she’s a grown adult with her own life and career i guess

  9. Leah says:

So that’s what that tweeter meant by someone from Scream 4 dating “thee Billy Loomis” yesterday. It didn’t connect honestly because I was either in that moment in a state of daft or I didn’t think much about it beyond that tweet. Lol.

I remember him from Scream, not so much her from one of the sequels.

  10. Rural Juror says:

I have no opinion on this relationship, but can we please talk about the fact that she has some kind of modified baby bjorn for her dog? Because that’s amazing and I want one.

    • Nouri says:

      IT Looks cosy :)
Also I’m in pain seeing her squint. Sometimes shades aren’t enough and you really need a hat

    • K says:

I once saw a pug being carried in a baby carrier with its legs sticking straight out and I swear, it felt like the dog was embarrassed!

  11. Princess Peach says:

Skeet is a total zaddy but this age difference is way too much.

In other news…I’m obsessed with the picture of her and her dogs.

  12. Nanny to the Rescue says:

Back in the day we used to call him “discount Johnny Depp”.
How the times have changed. :o

  13. SmalltownGirl says:

I’m only a few years older than Lucy and I would date Skeet Ulrich 😂. He’s aged well.

  14. Rae says:

They’re both firmly adults who can make up their own minds. She’s in her thirties; if she wants to date older, then go ahead girl.

    • Darla says:

Agree, but gosh, men in their 30′s…that’s when they finally hit their short-lived sweet spot. Their late teens they don’t know what they’re doing. Their 20′s, they know, but they’re doing it badly. By their 40′s they’re hitting the Viagra and half of them can’t see their weenies past their bellies.

She’s missing out, but that’s her call.

      • Nicole says:

Can we not make sweeping generalizations about half the planet?

      • local russian hill says:

wow really? judge much? reread your post and think about it for a while.

      • sup says:

lol ur right and you should say it

      • sup says:

This isn’t predatory or toxic. She’s thirty. When it’s over thirty then it’s fine by me. I wish thirty became the new twenties for age gap relationships. Enough with preying on girls and boys in their early-mid twenties or (god forbid) lower.

However, if this is more than just having fun… I don’t get it? They seemed mismatched. I don’t see a “serious” relationship here and all I hope for is that both of them are on the same page.

      • Joanna says:

It’s true! I’m 45 and men my age look like shit….but they still go after women 20 years younger. I’ve gotten to the point where I date men in late 30s or early 40s. They are closer in looks and energy to me.

  15. Darla says:

I don’t agree he’s aged well, but I barely remember him from the 90′s and I am a 90′s girl. When I first heard about him as a 90′s thing, after Riverdale aired, I was like “huh”? I googled him and when I saw his young pictures I did remember him from Scream. I don’t know why people act like he was some big 90′s thing, but maybe he was and it just escaped me.

  16. Jill says:

I was 32 when I met my then-50 yr old husband. The only impact our age difference has on our relationship is we probably won’t have as many years together as we would if we were a similar age, which is sad. She’s in her 30s, she’s had life experiences, it’s not like she’s an 18yr old being preyed upon. I know next to nothing about Skeet Ulrich, so he could well be an asshole, but that’s her choice to make, too.

  17. Feedmechips says:

I dont remember her being on Riverdale??

  18. Chlo says:

Not a big deal. They are both adults in the adult-adult sense of the word (does that make sense??). Not like the 20s where someone is technically an adult but perhaps doesn’t have much life experience. In my early 30s I dated a man who was in his late 40s. He was good looking and French and sweet, and I don’t regret that relationship at all. lol

    • Godwina says:

Nice. My one dating regret in life is that I’ve never bedded a French man. Scary to think I might die without doing so.

  19. observing says:

Not sure about the dirt-bag part, but he’s not bad-looking. Maybe he uses filters and Rogaine, but I don’t think of him in the same vein as a 51 year old who has a beer belly or even a 35 year old with the same thing going on. I can see why she’s attracted to him on a physical level (I think). His personality I know nothing about though.

  20. Kristen says:

I don’t mind the age difference, but as appearances (mannerisms and style) go, these two seem totally mis-matched.

    • Meg says:

Yes she looks much younger than 30

      • molly says:

Very Ana de Armas/Ben Affleck. When she was casually dressed, she looked much younger than 32 to me.

I think Lucy can do much better, and I REALLY hope she doesn’t marry this guy or have a kid together, but if she wants to kiss up on Skeet Ulrich for awhile, I’m on board.

      • observing says:

I don’t think she looks old at all, but I don’t think there’s much difference looks-wise nowadays between 20 year olds and 30 year olds. She could probably pass for either age but if she needed to pass for 30, I think she could do that as well. 30 isn’t ancient. I’ve never really seen an old looking 30 year old in the 21st century.

  21. Tiff says:

    Wait… Brian Ray Trout?!?!?! 😳

  22. Michelle says:

I pretty much only have a problem with this bc I’m jealous. So, yeah, I totally would.

  23. Meg says:

I tweeted that this reminds me of the Tina Fey Amy Poehler SNL sketch Meet your Second Wife because yes how old was she when he did Scream?
Shes always had a baby face IMO and looks young for 31- i was actually surprised when this article said she was that age

    • sally says:

God I love that sketch! One of my all-time fave SNL bits and it’s so spot on. I’m a year older than her and I have skin envy, especially on her legs, damn!

  24. Case says:

I always have a hard time imagining this scenario in real life. You meet someone 20 years older/younger than you, get along or have chemistry, and you actually think to DATE them? And then you ACT ON IT? It’s hard for me to wrap my head around that playing out in a way that isn’t weird. On top of that, I just don’t get what people 20 years apart would talk about or have in common.

They’re both adults and she’s certainly not a child, so good for them if they’re happy. I personally just don’t get it.

    • observing says:

To be honest, I haven’t seen this happen often in real life (maybe once? And even then you see strangers telling the woman outright she could do better and not waste her youth).

It’s only in Hollywood where I see these kinds of couplings happen with any kind of frequency. And usually the older guy is currently good-looking (Brad Pitt) or was extremely good-looking when younger (Richard Gere?)

I don’t see these kinds of relationships with average looking people, although I’m sure somewhere this does happen.

    • Ann says:

I don’t get it either, but my cousin who is my age is married to someone 20 years older. I found it weird when she met him, when we were both 21. I couldn’t imagine wanting to date someone who was old enough to be my father. And I was born when people had kids younger. My Dad was 30 when they had me, but I was the youngest of four. He had his first at 22. But they are still together (my cousin and her husband) and seem happy. He looks young for his age, which helps I guess. It’s still odd to me, but I don’t care what others do. She’s over 30, so it’s not creepy or anything. I just don’t get it.

    • Anna says:

I’ve dated a lot 15-20 years older than me. I like older people. I think older men are sexy AF. Now that I’m nearing 50, it’s not so cute anymore because dudes in that age range don’t always take the best care of themselves. I did date someone in his 60s who was fitter than anyone I’ve ever met and that’s saying something cuz I do have a thing for the buff ones. Rock solid muscles and the sex was off the chain. So there. Did it crash and burn? Yes. Do all of my relationships crash and burn regardless of age difference? Yes. lol. It’s not about lacking things in common, things usually don’t work out because you have different goals or you just weren’t a good match. I’m a fan of people going for who they find sexy. Yes, exploitation happens and I can see now that I was so attracted to a few people that weren’t so good for me and part of it was their age but most kept up with me so it wasn’t an issue. Definitely had a moment with one guy who reminded me of that 30Rock skit where it was like, which older man are you dating? and one of them was the one who falls asleep in the middle of conversation…lol

  25. Faithmobile says:

It’s most likely just a phase. I dated a famous musician when I was 30 and he was 48, it was fun but It helped me focus on what I really wanted-a family of my own. I’ve always thought Skeet was hot and he still kinda is. Can she do better? Probably but that is what your thirties are for-testing the water. Also that sling, every time I see those I giggle, but they 100X better than strollers.

    • Nic says:

Strollers are so much easier on your back though. I have sling for my small dog and it’s great, but I have been fostering disabled bulldogs and the stroller is a life saver. Even though they are 4mos old there is no way I could pack there 25 lbs into a sling. Those canvas folding wagons also work great if you don’t want to be seen with a stroller but still need something to push them around in.

  26. Va Va Kaboom says:

I now have “Get Low” stuck in my head. Ah Skeet, Skeet… Goddamn indeed.

  27. Valerie says:

I don’t see the problem. If she were 21, it would be a different story.

  28. Hardbackbooks says:

He was seen by some as the knock-off version of Johnny Depp back then; bet he’s laughing at Johnny train-wreck Depp now and happy with himself.

  29. observing says:

Honestly, I tend to gauge the weirdness of these relationships on what the guy looks like. I’m not sure if that’s incredibly shallow. If he looked like the crypt- keeper, I’d think it’s weird. Since he doesn’t, I have no real feeling about this relationship either way. The only thing I wonder about in these cases is how their friend groups get along. If neither has a friend group, then maybe there’s no real obstacle.

  30. Amando says:

I don’t blame her, he has aged very well.
