Duchess Kate wore her favorite 1980s cosplay for International Women’s Day

Prince Charles

The Duchess of Cambridge did more than just step out for an orchestrated photo-op outside of Kensington Palace yesterday. KP also released a video of Kate speaking to Jasmine Harrison, “the youngest woman to solo row the Atlantic.” I’m including the video below. Kate wore new stuff: a $80 pussybow blouse from Boden and £85 earrings from Missoma. The earring brand is being called a “favorite of Meghan’s,” so copyKate strikes again or something. I don’t even think this is really Kate copying Meghan sartorially – this is Kate’s regular old 1980s-secretary cosplay. Chica loves a dated pussybow look. Now, the fact that Kate spoke to an outstanding woman in celebration of International Women’s Day? That’s Meghan-esque.

It’s interesting, isn’t it? The fact that Kensington Palace dropped this video on International Women’s Day, the day after Meghan and Harry’s interview dropped? I’ll admit that I didn’t even see anything about it yesterday, so it’s not like it even made some huge impact. Kate is being dragged on Kensington Royal’s Twitter, but even that seems rather muted compared to everything else. But Kensington Palace absolutely felt like it was the right thing to do to project a “business as usual” attitude for Kate specifically. William, on the other hand, is still in the wind.

As for whether Kate will ever address Meghan’s correction of the “crying at a bridesmaid’s fitting” story and who actually cried… yeah, no. Kate will never address it directly. Kensington Palace and Carole Middleton will absolutely leak some sh-t and they’ll still frame Kate as Meghan’s “victim” somehow. They’ve already started.

This is the first time I’m seeing this and it’s as interesting as watching paint dry. Making Meghan cry, being a mean girl in a stupid little hat on CW day but being more concerned her botox and wiglets tells me her priorities when it comes to supporting other women.

    • kelleybelle says:

Off-topic, but man, look at her mouth in the last photo. The botox around the mouth has severely limited her mouth movements. Wow.

      • Lemons says:

I honestly think she speaks like this to help with her aristo-accent. She usually looks this limited around the mouth when speaking.

    • Quietly Kitten says:

It’s as if I no longer speak several languages fluently and can comprehend neither adjectives nor my own mind as I am simply unable to accurately express how much I have always disliked Kate Middleton, and I have zero compassion left for this Mean Girl who’s chosen to shape herself into the Queen of Karens.

She’s a tasteless, unwanted flan unhurriedly sagging to a slump in the corner cupboard; waiting to be somehow useful when nothing else truly suitable is available. The caustic waste and absolute inauthenticity of all things Kate leaves me in a state of permanent exhaustion at the mere hint of its contemplation.

  2. Nev says:

Beyond cancelled for me. Take your DIBBY When Calls The Heart style with you.

  3. Victoria says:

She was twisting that wedding around something fierce honey!

  4. Gosh, I wish she’d get rid of all this 80’s fashion and go for a modern woman look. Bland, boring Kate. On another note, I caught a clip on some British tv show yesterday on YouTube where the hosts were talking to one of the female 🐀 Rota bout the Oprah interview. Didn’t catch her name, but she admitted that she was the one that wrote the original story on Meghan making Kate cry. The hosts asked if she thought now that she’d got it wrong and she banged on about how she never reported unless she had impeccable sources and she stood by her story. One of the hosts then asked her if she was calling Meghan a liar. She said no, but there were 2 sides to every story and how did Meghan know if she hadn’t also made Kate cry! That maybe Meghan cried, but maybe Kate cried too! And why would Meghan humiliate Kate like this and talk about flowers and a note sent as that was private and Meghan had no right to talk about Kate like that. And, oh yeah, why hadn’t Meghan come out and challenged the story when it was reported as ALL the Royal palaces were constantly ringing up the reporters to get their side out! I think we can all agree, this reporter’s response was total BS as Meghan was very clear in how she relayed the story. Either Meghan is a liar or the reporter’s source was wrong or the reporter was reporting as a KP mouthpiece. And, I loved how she outed the relationship between the Royals and the 🐀Rota. Obviously, based on her own comment, at least Harry got the royal/tabloid relationship correctly.

    • Drun says:

Didn’t Meghan say that the palace would not deny it for her.

    • MsIam says:

Ok, let me get this straight: its Meghan fault for not calling the press and saying Kate is a liar but now that she has called Kate a liar Meghan is still the bad one? If this doesn’t make clear what Meghan was up against then I don’t know what does. Like how dare Meghan clear her own name if it involves making Kate look bad! I don’t know how Meghan got out of there without cursing out people three times sideways. No wonder she was depressed, she must have felt helpless.

  5. Kalana says:

    Kate bored as always.

Jasmine Harrison, the woman Kate is talking to is great. I recommend watching the video for her.

  6. Merricat says:

    Kate Middleton is culpable.

  7. What’s eating you says:

I’m glad she’s wearing her sister wife clothing again because that’s what she is. Copying Meghan and wearing modern clothes was too much for her because she not a modern woman, she would fit perfectly in the 50’s.

  8. HeatherC says:

I hate pussy bows. I don’t care who wears them, Meghan or Kate. So this is a miss from me (outfit wise). Kate is boring and bored as usual.

    • kelleybelle says:

They were kind of big for a bit in the ’80s and we left them there. It’s very 40 years ago.

      • truth fairy says:

As I recall ‘Dress For Success’ said pussy bows allowed workin’ gals to have a necktie-like symbol of authority without the phallic symbolism, so they’re a bit of labial display

If Kate reads this will she stop wearing them or wear them more often? 😎

  9. Kay Dozier says:

If you stuck Diana’s head on this and told me it was from 1985 I’d believe you.

    • CuriousCole says:

LOL! I’m wondering if she’s hoping to pick up random sympathy points by cosplaying Diana right now? Or is she attempting to signal she needs help by copying Diana’s distressed years wardrobe??

  10. Mac says:

Is she just trolling with the 80’s clothes? These looks are so bad it has to be deliberate.

  11. The Duchess says:

Kate couldn’t look less interested in this if she tried. It’s a shame because Jasmine seems sweet and eager to go into detail about all her achievements. Why do people agree to offer their time up to be used like this? Kate doesn’t care, she’s just looking for ways to boost her engagement numbers and to show off which sister wife attire she’s wearing now.

  12. Sequinedheart says:

Kate is cruel woman. I wasn’t jazzed on her when they got married, while everyone was super hyped on them and I haven’t been since. This certainly confirms those perceptions, for me anyway.
Fake accent, fake empathy. She’s as fake as those wiglets!

  13. Alexandria says:

Kate where is your box of tissues?

  14. Sofia says:

She needs to stop dressing like the 80s. There are ways to look “conservative” and still fashionable.

    • Sparky says:

I so agree. If she should be cosplaying anyone it should be Queen Letizia of Spain. Letizia dresses conservatively but without looking like she is in a 1980’s time warp.

  15. Aphra says:

Her accent! LOL. I would love to hear someone just say, “Pardon? I don’t understand you.”

  16. Amy Bee says:

KP decided to release this under the guise of something for international women’s day but Kate has never commemorated this event before and I thought Sophie was designated as royal interested in female empowerment now. It would have better if KP had released this video later in the week to show off Kate’s keen interest in sailing instead of pretending that she’s a feminist.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Speaking of Sophie, I wonder how much the Palaces have silenced her. Sophie and Anne seem to be the only Senior Royals (other than The Duke of Gloucester if you count him as a Senior Royal) with any intelligence.

  17. Jaded says:

Gee…nothing says International Women’s Day like a bubblegum pink pussy bow blouse and a hairstyle worn by 11 year old girls. Why not show up in a tailored pantsuit, hair back and look like a professional – she looks like a secretary from 1960.

  18. Callid says:

I feel that Kate can’t win. Bitched about because she’s lazy and doesn’t work, bitched about because she’s bland and it’s a photo op when she does work.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Callid, it would help if Kate would just be herself. IMO, a lot of her problem is that she’s trying to pretend that she’s something else. I think she gets so caught up in making sure her accent is correct that she’s throwing out any emotion that she could display. Also, I lived the 80s in the office–why doesn’t she just put a blazer with this? Also, just because a bow is possible, doesn’t mean you have to tie it that way. Really, it’s not that difficult. She needs to start just being herself, or this video and the others are all she has left.

Also, twisting the wedding ring here (fidgeting) could be a way of self pacifying from what I’ve read. She’s feeling displaced/uncomfortable and this is how it’s manifesting. She really just needs to throw out that play book of hers and try being herself (if she remembers what that is).

    • swirlmamad says:

She doesn’t need to “win” with the commenters here….she’s got a whole faction of stans who fawn over everything she does (which is a whole lotta NOTHING).

  19. Katebush says:

One nice comment: I love the pussy bow blouse!

  20. MangoAngelesque says:

She’s going to saw her finger off, twirling that wedding ring the way she is.

We see you, Cath. We loathe him, too.

  21. Mrs.Krabapple says:

Kate’s face looks really jacked. It hurts my own face just looking at hers.

I am torn about Jasmine Harrison, “the youngest woman to solo row the Atlantic.” I WANT to champion her accomplishments, especially on women’s day. But a part of me always cringes when I hear about “the youngest person to [fill in the blank]”. I am not comfortable with people/parents encouraging younger and younger children to climb Everest, or /whatever/. I know rowing solo itself is not dangerous because there are escort boats keeping the person safe — again, it’s more the quest of being “the youngest” to do something that makes me uncomfortable.

  22. Mina_Esq says:

It must sting that M gets compared to Diana without even having to cosplay in 80s get-ups.

  23. Shoshone says:

Wasn’t part of the palace smear against Meghan last week that she cut her visit short at the Suva market while on the Oceana Tour because she (Meghan) was irritated/ distressed because there were supposedly people there from UN Women which is an organization that Meghan worked with since before meeting Harry? This is the infamous “hissing” smear which was so asinine. Now Kate is presenting within a few days as a champion for women’s empowerment. The palace would have known about Kate attending before concocting and leaking the hissing smear. I think they were trying to get ahead of H&M by propositioning Kate as the “true”champion for women’s empowerment. No need to look at “bully” Meghan, no sir.

This isn’t going to stop. Oh, and BTW, Charles is an absolute cockroach.

  24. Cottage Cat says:

I struggle to understand how the Middletons were able to push their product so far that they got so close to William and the Throne. Drug-pushing, wife-beating uncle, puppy- farming brother, dumped but continued to stalk him. Maybe they had enough on him to sink a battleship by then

  25. Desert Lizard says:

Wow. That video. Someone please teach Katie Keen how to fake sincerity or at least appear interested.
