Britney Spears’ life would ‘drastically change’ for the better if her dad is removed

I no longer follow the daily or weekly legal dramas involving Britney Spears and her conservatorship. I just assume that when something big happens, it will be a major headline and we’ll talk about it. But at this point, it just seems like a drawn-out, incomprehensibly tangled mess. The point being, I suppose, that it’s really difficult for a conservatorship to be removed once it’s in place, and it’s really difficult to significantly alter a conservatorship once it’s in place as well. But Britney keeps trying, and she has her own legal representation – which is a good start. Now she’s just trying to keep the conservatorship but remove her father entirely.

Life “would drastically change for the better” for Britney Spears if her father was removed as her conservator, insiders say. Her attorney has filed a petition this week to have Jodi Montgomery officially replace the pop star’s father, Jamie Spears, as the permanent conservator over the singer’s personal matters. If the judge agrees to this in an April 27 hearing – getting her out of the control of her father – Britney, 39, could begin to have the freedom to perform again and even do that big tell all interview with Oprah Winfrey that fans are clamoring for, according to a source.

The insider told Page Six, “If Jodi becomes her conservator things would drastically change for Britney — she’s not working because of her dad. She has said that as long as a dad is in control of her life, she’s not working. Britney trusts Jodi Montgomery — she’s really great. Things would drastically change for the better.”

As for the Harry and Meghan-style big interview, the source added, “If she decided she wanted to do it, yes, but it definitely wouldn’t do it in the current status quo. As long as her dad is part of it, she’s not working. She hasn’t talked to her dad in over a year.”

Montgomery, who is Britney’s care manager, has been the “Toxic” singer’s conservator since 2019 when she temporarily replaced Jamie while he recuperated from health issues. A judge recently extended Montgomery’s temporary role until September 2021. However, Jamie remains the co-conservator over her estate alongside Bessemer Trust. He has been in control of her life — and her finances — since 2008, following her public breakdown.

I’m glad that Britney hasn’t seen or spoken to her father in a year. I think that’s a healthy choice for her, because clearly things were getting incredibly toxic and abusive – Jamie was even investigated for abusing Britney’s sons. What bugs me is that Jamie so clearly only cares about the money at this point. He’s not fighting to stay on as Brit’s conservator because he loves her and wants to protect her. He wants access to her money, and he wants to keep getting paid.

As for the interview…reportedly, Britney doesn’t want to sit down with Oprah anyway. I don’t think her priority at the moment is “telling her story.” She just wants to be out of her dad’s control. I think she wants to marry Sam Asghari too.

I hope it’s ok to post this link but I feel like it helps understand the really dark side of conservatorships, how vulnerable many are to this. Britney Spears with all her resources is vulnerable, imagine everyone else. This doc I saw covers it well. https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a31847699/netflix-dirty-money-guardians-inc-guardianship/

I hope Brit finds happiness and is able to be under a conservator she trusts. Poor woman’s been through it.

Mental note: don’t let any kids i know become a child star. Btwn. Demi, Jessica Simpson, and Britney’s childhood it’s pretty safe to say that this route is paved in pain and misery.

There are so many sides to this story and her future depends entirely on the choices to be made. Her father saved her life and Britney is known for making terrible choices due to her mental state. God watch over her.

Ugh there’s so much misogyny inherent in all of this. How many men do we know who consistently have made risky, dangerous, terrible choices that have endangered themselves and others? Especially in their teens and 20’s. Just imagine if these “conservatorship” laws were applied to young men the way they were applied to Britney. That you could permanently take away all of a person’s legal rights to self-sufficiency and have them under a conservatorship for the rest of their life, for shaving their head, destroying property, driving dangerously, and being mentally or emotionally volatile. Literally millions of men would lose their legal rights forever before the age of 25.

disgusting comment and it shows you dont actually know anything about this situation. Saved her life? her father was absent from her life, abused her mother when britney was a little girl and was an alcoholic who has filed for bankruptcy twice. He saw a woman in need of help and with the help of that freak Lou Taylor ( who tried to put lindsay lohan and courtney love in conservatorships too) he took control of her life they deemed her unstable and then put her in a studio to record an album and then sent her on a world tour less than a year later. This was never ever about her mental health or “saving her life”, they literally call the conservatorship a “hybrid business model” in court documents. They found a way to make money off of her and use her children as blackmail to make her work against her will. This is a disability rights issue but of course, bRiTnEy iS cRazy HeR fAtHeR sAvEd HeR…

The fact that men like Kanye are out there and despite his messy life he’s not in a conservatorship but Britney has a mental breakdown after a divorce, 2 kids and post partum depression and constant harassment and is put in a conservatorship with all her rights as a human being taken away and we still have people defending this is the sad part. Her children have more rights than her.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Britney, she seems like a nice person who doesn’t deserve all the mistreatment and toxic narrative surrounding her. I hope she wins her court case and gains her freedom moving forward.

  7. Ebee says:

If Jamie truly cared about Britney as his child, I would think he would want to be separate from the conservatorship. The priorities inherent in wanting the best for your child can easily come into conflict with the priorities of wanting the best for a client. Especially when they are a sole client and therefore any choices made directly impact your own standard of living. Now there are competing priorities with self-preservation on top of it all. A third-party in control makes much more sense.

There is a reason beneficiaries on a will cannot serve as witness signatories. It’s a conflict of interest.

    So is this.

Lola, yes, exactly right. Would you ever see a male, like Johnny Depp, say,be under the conservatorship of his father? No way in Hell!
