Angela Bassett brought the drama in Alberta Ferretti at the 2021 Oscars

93rd Oscars, Academy Awards
Angela Bassett was a standout last night in a red Alberta Ferretti gown with giant balloon shoulders. I love an oversize detail on a dress when the rest of the look is sleek. Angela presented the In Memoriam segment, which ended with Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick first met Angela when he was assigned as a student to accompany her when she was awarded an honorary doctorate at Howard University. Chadwick didn’t remind Angela of this until the premiere of Black Panther! They shared a hair and makeup trailer too.

I didn’t even notice her lips clutch.

Rita Morena is 89 f’ing years old. I look to Rita and Jane Fonda as my aging inspirations. I don’t have an ID on her gown but she looks so stylish. I love the matching coat and how well accessorized she is. Rita went to the Oscars with her daughter, Fernanda Luisa Gordon. Rita presented Best Picture, which went to Nomadland. They played her on with the intro from Electric Company!

Speaking of Best Picture, director Aaron Sorkin, 59, brought his new girlfriend, Paulina Porizkova, 56, as his date. (I was hoping Trial of the Chicago 7 might win in an upset, but no.) They look loved-up. I really like that they’re around the same age and they’re so cute together. Paulina just did an interview where she was talking about how great sex is when you’re older. Get it!

Angela’s dress was very nice but there were a few others that also brought some drama. Angela EXUDES class and that is why she brings drama with her. She has class and poise and with a dress like that yes DRAMA. She wears the dress not the other way around.
Paulina looks happy – and I am happy for her. She has looked so down and miserable these last few years. Happiness is for everyone. Not a fan of her dress. Reminded me a Golden Barbie.
And Rita, well I hope I can understand what’s going on at the Oscars let alone look as amazing as her at that age.

I saw on another site a comment that Angela dressed as a huge bow to remind everyone what a gift she is, and truer words have not been spoken. She always looks amazing because she’s amazing!

  2. Lightpurple says:

Angela was one of the best looks of the night. She’s so amazingly beautiful.

I want to see a better picture of Paulina’s bag.

  3. Becks1 says:

I went to bed before the In Memoriam segment but wow, Angela looks incredible. That dress! I love when big stars bring drama to the Oscars with their fashion AND can pull it off.

  4. Esmom says:

Bassett’s look is amazing, just stunning. Moreno looks beautiful. And Porizkova looks really great — her smile! — except her hairstyle looks too “set” and slightly helmet-y to me. Like I want to loosen the curls.

  5. tempest prognosticator says:

Rita Moreno! Exquisitely styled. Angela’s look is bold and dramatic, not everyone can pull that off, but good gawd, she looks stunning.

    • Carol says:

I thought Rita Moreno was one of the best dressed last night. She looked exquisite. I am not a fan of Angela Bassets dress. The color was so beautiful but I freakin hated the puffy sleeves. She did look stunning though.

Paulina’s look was a bit boring. She is so beautiful but I wish she wore something a little more exciting.

  6. Watson says:

Angela always looks like a goddess but her makeup artist should be fired. Her face is 3 shades darker than the rest of her body. Wtf?

  7. Sofia says:

Another “I love all the dresses in the post” comment. If someone else had worn Angela’s dress I don’t think they could pull it off (depending on the person) but Angela makes it work.

  8. Gk says:

Again don’t “like” the dress but she looks fabulous, dramatic, the center of attention. What I love is she is showing youth is not necessary to be beautiful.

  9. fishface says:

Angela! And I loved her hair and make-up. Stuuuuunnnnniinnggg!

  10. Normades says:

Paulina is gorgeous and has a banging body but I didn’t like this color on her. I hope she’s happy though and having fun.

    Angela is a goddess.

  11. Lauren says:

Love Angela’s look from head to toe! Beautiful dress color, dramatic shoulder details, beautiful cut, beautiful and tasteful styling. And you Rita Moreno looks 75, she is a stunning lady.

I sure don’t look up to Jane Fonda or Rita Morena as aging icons. The plastic surgery they’ve had between them is insane. I have no problem with women or men doing what they want with their bodies, but they should not be put up on a pedestal as a way to age. Absolutely not!

    • Lizzie says:

I’m not an expert on such things, but I would say Jane Fonda and Rita Moreno’s platic surgery is just right, very subtle. There are a lot of over the top surgeries out there but I wouldn’t classify these two as ‘insane’ by any stretch.

      • yvrjanice says:

Well sure, they don’t look like Jocelyn Wildenstein or anything, but Jane has admitted to many, many procedures throughout the years. Once you’ve had a good 10 surgical procedures (and Jane has had more by her own admission), you shouldn’t be looked upon as an aging icon

  13. Amando says:

Angela is fabulous, but I hate bows. It’s too 80’s for me, sorry.

  14. lise says:

well now im thinking about aaron sorkin’s sex faces and how dare you???
