Bethenny Frankel says she doesn’t exercise except when she’s on vacation

Bethenny Frankel is promoting her new HBO Max show, The Big Shot with Bethenny, where she auditions contestants to work as an executive for her Skinny Girl company. It sounds very Trump-esque, which is on brand for Bethenny. She has one of those “how I get it done” interviews with NY Mag’s The Cut and another interview with People. I wanted to talk about things she said in both interviews so I’m excerpting them below. I was kind of floored that she said that she doesn’t exercise, but given what I’ve heard about her books I think she is just crazy controlled about her diet. To People she talked a lot about getting Botox and getting older, some of which I could sadly relate to.

On exercise
I don’t exercise. If I’m on vacation, I’ll walk on the beach or I’ll snowboard, but that’s like once every year. I do yoga sometimes, but that’s more of a treat.

On “girl boss” branding
People pandering and writing all these like spiritual quotes, just the saccharine-y faux spirituality, all that stuff — it’s like kissing the ass of your followers. It’s as phony as the faces that are all filtered and Facetuned. You’re hoping that a couple of people that you’re talking to are at least winking at you like, Oh, we know it’s so gross. It’s a little too kitschy. It’s a little too martini bar. Everything is “girlboss” and “bad bitch.” I’m not into that stuff. Me personally, I have never thought about the fact that I am a woman. I have just gone in and fought to be better than the men, better than the women, just be better. I have definitely broken some barriers. – From NY Mag

On getting older
“Now it’s like the lottery every month if I’m going to get my period — or maybe the Easter bunny,” she says with a laugh. “Is it coming?”

As for getting older, she says, “It’s all new fodder. I’m launching a new line of reading glasses. You need readers everywhere — like mints.”

On botox and plastic surgery
“I’ve had a breast lift. Filler is scary but I believe in Botox because it decreased the size of my jaw. I grind my teeth. so it relaxes the muscle. I don’t use it as often as I should. I should set a calendar to look in the mirror. If I look like a Shar-Pei that’s when I know I need it next.” – From People

[From NY Mag and People]

Bethenny thinks she’s broken barriers with her businesses but her advice to women of color who run businesses is to hire white male spokespeople to advocate and negotiate for them. She’s trash on a lot of levels. However I could relate to not knowing when my period is going to come at this point and to needing reading glasses all over the damn house. I haven’t done Botox yet but at least she’s honest about that and about the plastic surgery she’s had. I still haven’t decided whether she’s being honest about not exercising. However if exercise was her thing I think she would be selling products for it already, like super light pastel-colored weights to “tone” but not “bulk up.” You know she would be one of those types.

Her dogs are named “Biggy” and “Smallz”

That’s because she has, for someone who got started as a healthy foods chef, an incredibly dysfunctional relationship (to say the least). With food. That’s how she stays so skinny.

  2. Brittany says:

White people naming pet animals after Black people. It was racist when Princess Michael did it, and racist when Breonna Taylor’s family’s lawyer did it, and it’s *also* racist here. Geez Frankel.

    • Nev says:

      Bahahahahahahaj
She is wild and so tacky.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Get a snake and name it Frankie. Social media the hell out of it. As it sheds its skin mix it with avocado oil and sell it to Goop. Women use it and don’t have to exercise. You become rich. And the circle of life remains intact.

  3. I pet goat 2 says:

Both the Idea that she only exercises on vacation and the implication that she only goes on vacation once a year is such bs 😂

  4. Stacy Dresden says:

    Go away racist

  5. Midge says:

She had breast implants and then also a lift. She clearly had fillers and botox, which changed the shape of her face. The filler is noticeable in her cheekbones, which are higher and more pronounced than her natural bone structure. If she’s not exercising, then she is hardly eating. She has admitted to disordered eating in the past and, like addiction, eating disorders are a lifetime struggle. She is not honest about anything in this interview. Also, didn’t she sell Skinny Girl like a decade ago? How does she keep getting new projects and press? She is the absolute worst.

  6. ThatgirlThere says:

She has been horrible for some time now but it’s hilarious that she is so jealous of Duchess Meghan. She isn’t even close to Meghan’s level and just basically Trump in a dress. What a sad racist.

    • L4frimaire says:

She went on a date with Meghan’s ex-husband and seems obsessed with her Duchess/Princess title. Basically her bitterness is that she thinks she would have made a better American princess🙄.

  7. Chaine says:

She is so Botoxed there is no hope of managing a smile, only what can be best described as a mild smirk.

  8. Seraphina says:

I never paid much attention to her and always thought she was “off”. After her nasty comments about Meghan, I don’t care for her at all.

  9. Merricat says:

Exercise is probably the single best thing you can do for yourself.
Aging is difficult for women, since we’re told our value has diminished–even though, for our male peers, value has increased. We’re persuaded to avoid signs of aging, as though it’s the worst possible thing that could happen to us. We go from looking good to looking good for our age, and we hear over and over about female celebrities of a certain age: she doesn’t age! Ugh. I do want to look my best, but I hate the message this projects to little girls.

    • Midge says:

Exercise is also so important for cardiovascular health and bone health. And mental health frankly, as a stress reducer.

    • equality says:

I know. I feel sorry for her child. I hope the father is at least more normal.

    • L4frimaire says:

To people like her, thinness is all that matters. Forget health and strength, to her it’s about that size 00.

  10. Valerie says:

And this is something to be proud of?

  11. Valerie says:

I do agree with her when it comes to ridiculous, empty branding, and the popularity of faux-spirituality. Bossbabe and Girlboss are such ridiculous terms. I’d be embarrassed to call myself anything like that. And those pastel-coloured posts that speak of darker things and act as a gateway to Q are a big problem.

  12. Maida says:

The reboot of “The Apprentice” that the nation does NOT need, with a female Trump.

  13. MsIam says:

Bethenny is in to Bethenny, period. If “sucking the oxygen out of a room” were a person it would be her. I feel sorry for the “winner” of her contest if the prize means spending more time with Beth.

  14. Catherine says:

I would have sworn she did a yoga video and claimed it was how she stayed so toned and that she did yoga regularly. Anybody else remember that?!?! As far as her eating habits. She has always come across as a person who loves the process of cooking but doesn’t really enjoy eating food. There have been indications over the years that she has really rigid eating habits. Similar to Gwyneth Paltrow. I don’t know if I would call it dysfunctional but it is certainly controlled in a way that seems extreme.

  15. Christine says:

I don’t care about her interview, but I have to give you props, Celebitchy, because we are in the exact same stage of life, and you make it much funnier than I could ever. Yes, to all of it. I have reading glasses perched around the house, dangling from handles in my kitchen, and I never, ever know when my period is going to come. At this point, I am jealous of my Mom’s hysterectomy, because she never had to wonder, and that is so WRONG, that I wish my internal organs have been yanked out.

I have been slathering my face in all things The Ordinary, because it is cheap, and I just started thinking about skincare. I cannot do Botox, just because I am an accountant, and innately worried about money.

ETA: This is NOT an endorsement, I have only started caring about the skin on my face in 2021! If it works, even a little bit, I will let you know.

  16. I’m black and this woman always has a soft spot in my heart. I love love her on Real Housewives more than any other housewife. I also think her personality reminds me of my skinny, no-nonsense mother. I don’t really mind these things she says and I think she’s judged too harshly.
