Duchess Kate stepped out in an Alessandra Rich dress at the V&A museum

THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE TO VISIT THE V&A Wednesday 19th May, 2021 The Duchess with Tristram Hunt, Director, V&A Museum The Duchess of Cambridge, Royal Patron, will visit the V&A on Wednesday 19th May to view two new exhibitions as the museum reope

I apologize for sounding like a conspiracy theorist, but OMG. The Windsors are a bunch of desperados, utter clowns who want to do the most to get attention for themselves on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s anniversary all while refusing to publicly acknowledge the anniversary. In their minds, they think they’re one-upping Harry and Meghan and changing the subject away from them. Even the Daily Mail noted that today seems to be “a bumper day of royal news and engagements.” Like, these people are being that f–king obvious. Let’s see how they like the spotlight.

The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out for a solo event today at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The V&A has reopened for visitors and she was there to see a new exhibition. For Kate’s special day, she bought – with Charles’ money – a £1,565 houndstooth dress from Alessandra Rich. She paired it with £550 Jennifer Chamandi suede pumps and “delicate gold necklaces and £17 earrings from & Other Stories.” The Mail said Kate was “giving a masterclass in daytime glamour.” ORLY.

This dress looks terrible on Kate. She looks like a Christmas-themed tube. It’s so unflattering on her figure and so incredibly dated. The puffy shoulders, the massive lapel/collar, the sad AF drop waist. I will never, ever understand how Kate knows so little about what actually suits her figure. She wants to make her legs look longer (that’s why she was such a fan of short, twirly skirts), yet she consistently draws attention to how she’s really long-waisted and thin-hipped. I guess the ol’ girl just wants to look like a plaid tube these days. She also got fresh Botox and new highlights. She really went all out for her one day of work this week, timed specifically for her brother-in-law’s anniversary. Very keen, a true lynchpin, the Christmas tube who saved the monarchy. The Future Future Queen Tube. (And it’s the middle of May! This is such an off-season look.)

OMG. This dress looks like a Jessica McClintock dress from 1987. She paid $$ for this? Also, the jewelry and the Jennifer Chamandi shoes… guess which duchess did that first? Sigh.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Keen Guevara NEVER layered necklaces before Meg came on the scene. That dress looks like cheap polyester; the drop waist looks awful on her. For someone with an elongated torso, it’s not a good choice. But I guess she saw BUTTONS! and that was that. Also, give the buckled shoes back to granny.

For someone with access to the BEST fashion minds/stylers, she is just a friggin’ mess almost all the time. I really think you can count on one hand the number of times she got it *really* “right”.

      • Jais says:

It’s weird too bc the layering necklaces don’t seem to go with this dress. Just because you can layer necklaces doesn’t mean you should with every outfit or dress.
Also, I have a green velvet Jessica McClintock in my closet from years ago and want to wear it somewhere badly but where? 😳
And this dress is no Jessica McClintock.

      • Mac says:

Her ability to find ugly dresses is truly stunning.

    • Watson says:

Just here for this Jessica McClintock comment. If you know, you know. 🤣

      • Noodle says:

It needs a lace collar to go FULL JMcC. This looks like something my daughter’s American Girl doll would wear as a aristocratic daughter-turned-secret author in the early 29th century. Her name is Susannah.

      • coffee_coffee_coffee says:

this dress flared my mid-80s PTSD. that style looks terrible on EVERYONE.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

This is a very bad look. Why has she gone back to the OfWilliam dresses?

    • Kelsey says:

I usually hate the whole “who did it first” argument but when it comes to delicate GOLD jewelry (with the exception of rare earrings Kate would wear time to time) I’m like “Girl you never did this before 2018, come on now”.

This dress is hideous. If the buttons didn’t run the entire length and the entire length didn’t flare out like a prom dress, it would be much less (but still) hideous. But then again I guess if it weren’t for all the buttons it wouldn’t have been on her radar, soooo…

    • Bettyrose says:

Profplum – Nailed it! I couldn’t figure out why I love this dress so much and you called it. Nostalgia! I would hella wear this except that super long waist is ridiculous. Who but Kate could pull that off?

    • TheOriginalMia says:

Yes! I think I had a dress like this in high school.

      • nutella toast says:

I totally did. Green. I thought I was super cute…a REALLY long time ago when Bon Jovi had blonde hair and Whitney Houston wanted to dance with somebody.

      • Chaine says:

Yep, this was basically my high school graduation dress except we were all required to wear white for graduation, so mine was white…

    • Tom says:

ProfPlum, I was just coming here to volunteer to be Kate’s eBay shopper. There’s a cubic ton of these dresses for sale.

    • bros says:

she has WAY too long of a torso for that dress to be flattering. that’s fugly.

    • booboocita says:

      Deleted; repeat

    • booboocita says:

I’m waiting for her to bring back Laura Ashley dresses with giant floral prints, poofy sleeves and wide, lace-trimmed collars. You know they’re coming.

    • Thirtynine says:

You called the decade, Profplum. I have a photo of myself in something very similar, colour, checks and all from 1983.

    • Terri says:

      OfWilliam. hahahaha

If you removed the whole collar, the dress would be nearly ok. My first thought was “oh I love those drop waist skirts on my kids dolls”..

  2. Maria says:

OH my god. This dress is just terrible.

    • Nomegusta says:

I feel like the dropped waist, collar, and print are all criminal offenses

I will be pressing charges immediately

      • Mila says:

It’s truly one of the ugliest dresses of 2020 😭😭😭

      • Chrissy (The Original) says:

I laughed out loud when I saw this. She’s definitely been found guilty by the fashion police. Why would she accentuate her worst feature (her long torso) with a drop waist dress which makes her short legs look 2 feet long. Why can’t she get someone from Vogue to give her fashion advice, instead of Carole?

    • Liz version 700 says:

I threw away a tablecloth that my mother “gifted” me from her closet as she uses me as her Goodwill. I did not even take it home just straight to Goodwill and some industrious person made it into a hideous dress!

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

If you’re going to one upman your brother in law and his wife, at least do so looking your best. This dress is awful. What a mess.

    • Ronaldinhio says:

From my grandmother’s knees to her back
      Hideous fashion as ever

  3. OriginalLala says:

That is a hideous dress..my god.

    • L84Tea says:

The worst proportions I have ever seen! She looks like a midget with the longest torso on earth. Whoever designed this should be fired and whoever told her this looked flattering on her should be exiled. This might possibly be the worst dress she has ever worn. It’s definitely in the top 5.

    • RoyalBlue says:

A disaster if ever I saw one. She should fire her dresser immediately. If it’s that Angela what’s her name doing the new schoolmarm styling, she obviously hates Unable.

  4. Monica Q says:

That’s a £1,565 housecoat my grandma wouldn’t be caught dead in.

  5. Chica1971 says:

Accentuate the negatives. It’s almost summer and she looks like autumn/winter. Boringly basic.

    • MF says:

That’s a good point. Not only is this dress hideous and all wrong for her proportions, it’s also the wrong season. Sometimes Kate’s fashion choices are so bad, I’m convinced she’s actually trolling us.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Yes, seasonally it is so wrong. I’m surprised it’s new. If she was getting something new, you’d think it would fit the season.

  6. Sid says:

My jaw dropped at this dress. And not in a good way. Oh my.

    • Lady D says:

The waistline of this dress looks like it’s riding the top of her thighs. It almost makes me feel like she should hike it up like a pair of pants or something.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Lady D, that’s exactly what I thought. I don’t recall a dropped waist being that low–this has to be done deliberately. I just can’t figure out why and does this designer always do things like this? Keen’s had 10 years as a married in to find her style and she looks like this? I’m starting to think she doesn’t have anyone helping her. She just love to shop, but has to wear them so that she can justify the expense. This is godawful!

    • Mila says:

I truly didn’t know you could find something so hideously ugly and dated in 2021 😭😭

  7. Chica1971 says:

The hair looks nice. is that a microlink at the bottom?

  8. Sofia says:

When I saw that first pic of Kate I was like “Oh this doesn’t look too bad” but then I scrolled and saw the bottom half and went “Oh.” I don’t think it’s toooo bad (that white silk Peter Pan collar blouse still makes me cringe if I come across it) but the top half and the bottom half don’t match very well IMO. Not her best coat dress by far.

I also think if I look at it too long my eyes will start to hurt lol

    • Becks1 says:

That was EXACTLY my reaction. I thought “surely Kaiser is overreacting a bit, the top looks okay…..oh no. OH NO.”

This dress does not work for her and she has a similar one (the one that Abigail Spencer wore to the Sussex wedding) and that doesnt work for her either.

      • Sofia says:

Pippa wore a dress by this designer at Louis’ christening and I didn’t think it looked good on her so maybe the Midds don’t know how to style or wear Rich’s dresses.

Or maybe I just don’t like Rich’s dresses

      • Becks1 says:

I think she’s the kind of designer where you have to know just how to style it, at least with these dresses, and Kate just doesn’t.

      • mariahlee says:

yes, the one abigail appropriately styled with a belt. the last time kate wore that one it didnt look this bad because she showed some leg with the high slit. she really needed the belt here.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

It’s that the Midd women are LONG waisted. So a drop waist accentuates the long torso and short legs. Add to that Kate is V shaped (very slim hipped), and that makes it look worse. It literally hangs from her shoulders in an unflattering drape down, that “flare” does not “save” it.

      • booboocita says:

Exactly. I can hear Kreepa singing, “Oh no. Oh no. Oh no no no no no …”

    • Jais says:

Same Sofia. I saw the first pic and thought it looked okay but then the second pic was just a visceral noooooo! I think it could’ve been cute if it was shorter without the drop waist and well a whole different bottom? I just don’t understand this dress. Make it make sense.
Just posted and read your take becks1 and we are on the same page.

    • keroppi says:

I agree. I like parts of the dress. But altogether it’s a bad fashion student project that Tim Gunn would not approve of.

      Was this custom made?

    • Marie says:

I thought the same thing. It looks fine in the pic of her top half. She looks nice in red. The whole picture is not great. It looks like it’s hanging off of her.

  9. koko says:

    Simply…..ugh.

  10. HeatherC says:

She looks like a sad tube of Christmas wrapping paper that is sitting in the back of the closet because no one will use it, a bit crumpled and wilted. Nothing glamorous. Just very sad try-hard.

    But at least she’s “working?”

    • Lady D says:

(puts hand up) I’d like to know how one gets a job admiring artwork. I feel I really have the qualifications for it, I’ve been practicing for a lifetime.

  11. Amy Bee says:

I agree, the dress is terrible and old fashioned.

  12. truthSF says:

That is one fugly ass dress! And none of those royals are or will be taking attention away from H&M’s anniversary today! Almost 5 hours after Beatrice’s pregnancy was announced, and it’s barely seen + it’s not even trending on any SM!

  13. Jegede says:

Kate’s hair looks lovely and I like the jewellery layering💚. But woah, she’s slim.

  14. lanne says:

The glee with which the ratchets are reporting today is comical. They really think that Harry and Meghan are gnashing their teeth at the idea of Kate and Beatrice “taking focus away from their anniversary.”

The is the “ammo” of their attack. I know the ratchets are all ready with their commentary, “Well, Harry and Meghan should have thought about all the times they pulled focus from the Queen on the 504789895890275027th Friday of her reign!”

Reporting on Kate and Beatrice today is supposed to be some sort of “victory” in a war they are fighting in their own heads. If Meghan is doing any teeth nashing today, it’s because she could be in labor (or experiencing pre-labor pains). But they would rather imagine her crying because newspapers in another country…went about their business?

What sad, sad, SHABBY little people they are.

    • Becks1 says:

They are so obvious that it’s hilarious, because Harry and Meghan dont care and never did.

      • Merricat says:

        Exactly.

      • Mila says:

Truly, and that’s why they will always win 😂😂

      • L84Tea says:

The hilarious part is that if H&M wanted to pull the focus back to them, they could do it in a heartbeat. All they have to do is drop a new unseen photo of Meghan with her bump or with Archie and just like that, boom, everyone would froth over them. But so far it appears they don’t really care.

      • Nic919 says:

And no one outside of the UK is even going to care about Kate looking at paintings in an ugly dress.

    • Snuffles says:

Meghan has probably done her morning yoga, fed Archie his breakfast, packed his little lunchbox and backpack for pre-school and dropped him off. Now she’s getting dressed so she can do a Zoom meeting with her foundation.

      • Becks1 says:

or maybe Meghan is having the baby. Man I would LOVE it if the royals are spending all day trying to one-up the Sussexes and then H&M are like “oh yeah and the baby came on Friday, meet Poppy.” (last friday was my kiddo’s bday so I’m going with that one, lol. I also don’t think she’s due quite yet, but just IMAGINE The heads exploding.)

    • sunny says:

1000% this! I doubt Harry and Meghan care at all save to laugh at how desperate and sad the whole thing is.

This is a terrible look on Kate. Since she has seemingly so little substance and interests we are left to comment on her fashion but like 90% of the time her fashion is horrible. I know royal style, at least the British kind is boring and conservative by nature but how a beautiful woman with access to wealth manages to consistently get it wrong like this never fails to surprise.

  15. Myjobistoprincess says:

They photoshopped the first pic so that she would look the same same way she did on prince philip,s funeral with the black facemask. I thought that picture in the car at the funeral was beautiful (it is) but then I saw before/after shots and boy did they butter it thick.

  16. Lori says:

    Poor sausage. Poor poor sausage.

  17. Lexistential says:

At first, I thought it was a top and that it wasn’t too bad. Upon seeing the whole thing, yikes. That is some serious fug, and if she was trying to grab attention on H+M’s anniversary…. she should have gone for ACTUAL glamour.

Yikes. that’s some fug. That dress is only permissible if Kate was actually trying to troll for fun, but she’s neither smart enough nor good humored enough to play with her looks.

  18. S808 says:

the dress really highlights how thin she is 😟 terrible, terrible dress. wow.

    • Nyro says:

Her stylist must hate her. It’s unflattering in almost every way possible. The dress is tacky in itself but I think the York sisters could pull it off as they both have hips and a balanced waistline. That’s a dress that needs to be filled out.

    • Betsy says:

She is thin, so painfully, painfully thin. If she had always looked like that I wouldn’t be commenting, but no one goes from that slim athletic build she had to this without something painful. She’s wearing those godawful sleeves in part for Diana cosplay (Diana wore a red plaid monster in the 80s, I’m pretty sure, but it had a huge white collar and a black bolo style bow?), but also to mask how thin her arms are.

And somehow the buttons strain across the chest? I don’t understand.

      • Ranter says:

This. I am not body shaming, she can do what she likes. But she is dangerously, worryingly thin.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Diana was pregnant when she wore that tablecloth.

      • Jaded says:

And remember the camera adds 10 lbs. She is clearly underweight and you could stab yourself on her collarbones. I think this stems from having to deal with an absolute prick of a husband and the stress/anxiety of having to “Duchess”. She’s not smart enough, focused enough or comfortable enough with the public to give the job any credit. I’m sure the successes Meghan and Harry are enjoying, plus their obvious love and respect for each other, grates on her no end knowing how competitive and mean-girlish she can be.

Basically she’s not a happy person and it shows.

      • Nina says:

That was my reaction too – how can she be SO thin and yet have the buttons gap. And the plaid doesn’t match completely in the front. I am a seamstress and I would rip out that placket and do it again.

      • anotherlily says:

I noticed the straining buttons too. She’s trying to look as thin as possible as if that’s more important than looking good.

      • Nic919 says:

There was a picture of her doing archery a few days ago and her hands looked so bony and thin as though they were those of an 80 year old woman. She didn’t always look like this and it’s sad that the media still tries to pretend that her look is aspirational. It’s really not and it is frankly dangerous to pretend that other girls and women should try to emulate this.

      • Maria says:

In a Times article from 2010 before the engagement her friends mentioned she’s “incredibly disciplined about what she eats” (not necessarily a warning sign) and that there has always been a family competition about who is thinnest, Kate, Pippa or Carole (definitely a warning sign).
I imagine it’s just gotten more disordered.

      • Becks1 says:

She slimmed down a great deal before the wedding, I remember pictures of her in that blue suit where she looked super super thin, but then she gained some back around the time of her pregnancies. This is the thinnest I think we’ve ever seen her. I think its sad because clearly something is going on and you have to wonder if anyone is letting her get help.

      • swirlmamad says:

If they discouraged Meghan from getting help for her suicidal ideations and didn’t give a fig about Diana’s eating disorder, I can’t imagine there is any way the Firm is getting help for Kate. It’s really, really sad.

      • notasugarhere says:

Becks1, at the time of the wedding, Kate was trending on pro-ana sites as an inspiration. FFS. And Kate’s response to a concerned public commenter was, ‘It is all part of the plan’.

    • Lucy says:

This dress is awful. And I don’t concern troll, but she really is worryingly thin. I’m glad someone else noticed that the buttons were straining, she must’ve had it horribly tailored down.
Other than emphasizing her lack of size, there’s nothing good about this dress. I have a short waist, so I don’t understand why they don’t have her in pencil skirts and amazing men’s tailored button up shirts all the time. I would wear that all day every day with her torso and job.

      • swirlmamad says:

I almost wonder if she/her stylist had it tailored too small on purpose to try to disguise the fact that it is literally hanging on her.

  19. Nyro says:

She looks like a 1980s special collector’s Gumby Christmas ornament.

  20. Amelie says:

I actually thought this was a coat from thumbnails in the article I first saw on People because I could only see the top before I clicked on it and saw it was a dress. But omg this is so hideous and unflattering on her. She’s worn Alessandra Rich before and I am not a fan of this designer at all. It’s often vintage looking clothing that look so unflattering. I have never seen an Alessandra Rich design I’ve liked.

  21. Eurydice says:

“I want a dress that looks just like all my coats, with lots and lots of buttons.” I’ve been trying to figure out how to correct the lack of proportion, skirt shorter, torso shorter, get rid of the collar, lose the puff on the sleeve cap – maybe get rid of the dress altogether?

My mother had a pair of shoes like that. They were plain pumps and came with different embellishments you could clip on the front – I didn’t know they still made shoes like that.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Eurydice, I sew so trying to figure out the right proportions is what I did when I first saw this dress. I finally concluded that the drop waist needed to go and the dress needed to continue without that gathered skirt. It could have flared a bit instead. And raise that hemline. Is this a case of her outside is reflecting her state of mind? Or?

I think the gap at the bust line was deliberate to make you think that the dress is a little tight. “See, I’m not too thin!” And the plaid should have matched at the placket–someone said that above and so I took another look. For a dress that cost this much, I find this rather astonishing.

  22. Cee says:

I can’t believe there is a shortage of mirrors at KP!

  23. lizziebee65 says:

The 90s called, it wants its dress back! “Masterclass in daytime glam” umm no, more like masterclass in inducing nausea and vomiting.

  24. Kkat says:

Usually I feel people exaggerate how bad Kate’s outfits are, they usually aren’t THAT bad

But good lord, the full sized view of this dress is horrible.
That drop waist makes her legs look stumpy.
If it had had a normal waist height the dress would have been ok.

It would have looked better if it was a top and black pencil skirt

    • Blairski says:

Same. Her style is too old fashioned for my taste, but I agree some of the criticism is exaggerated (and you must admit she slayed at Philip’s funeral).

BUT. This dress is really truly HORRENDOUS.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Blairski, isn’t it interesting the type of dress she wore to a funeral, and yet she can’t enlarge on that style for her duties? What’s that about? I wonder whose eye she was trying to catch at the funeral? 🙂

  25. Calibration says:

Regardless of her weight (her business) the buttons on that dress are pulling! Poorly fitted.

    • Merricat says:

It’s pulling across the chest, which is quite a statement in itself.

    • Lady D says:

None of those buttons aside from the first one, seem to be hanging properly. Given the price she paid, I’d expect better workmanship.

    • tolly says:

This. The skin-tight tailoring is unflattering, and it must be almost impossible to sit down in this dress (also true of the coat she wore to the National Portrait Gallery). It’s a bit like body-conscious dressing (hi Meg!), but make it stiff and matronly.

  26. Merricat says:

    That dress, yikes.
What’s funny/sad to me is that the Cambridges really do think they’re sticking it to the Sussexes on their anniversary, but I think Harry and Meghan don’t feel their anniversary should be a public celebration.

  27. dawnchild says:

She really doesn’t know how to dress, speak or work to project a coherent, classic image; and she won’t get quality help or have the intelligence to delegate the image-making and follow directions. No win situation. It’s going to be a long road for these two and their media.

  28. Harper says:

All she needs is a perm and some curled bangs and she could be Nancy Reagan’s assistant. Kate probably ordered the dress last fall thinking she would wear it over the holidays that never happened. It’s bonkers that she would pull it out of the closet and wear it in May, considering she is the Kween of Floral Dresses.

  29. Sarah says:

I like the print. It would have been great as a pair of trousers and a black top. This dress pattern just screams 1987.

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, and not a Vogue Designer sewing pattern, but a McCall’s pattern for Catholic school uniforms.

  30. Andrea says:

“She looks like a Christmas-themed tube.” 😂😂😂💀 DYING over this description lolll

  31. Betsy says:

I don’t understand why she cosplays Diana of the 80s. She had some real clunker outfits, and they’ve only become more ridiculous with time. If cosplay she must, why doesn’t she ever lean into Diana’s 1990s outfits? There were business suits that could satisfy Kate’s button lust while looking less heinous. And I even like some of her heinous dresses! (Not this one).

    • mosia says:

I just by an accident started feeling a bit sad for Kate- what if she dresses like Diana because she feels like Diana- tells her the paralel story. Kate is not only in a loveless marriage, but she doesn’t have the kind of love Diana got- peoples affection.

  32. Jillian says:

This dress is so terrible, omg. Clearly Kate is not well liked around the palaces or someone would have told her

  33. AVEA says:

Who in that label thought this was a good design to even make let alone wear? Looks terrible on her. And she layered her necklaces? That’s… new

  34. Qzie says:

Wow. It’s so bad, that I actually feel bad for her. And the thing is, it’s such a sad wintery/autumnal dress—nothing says it’s May and almost summer. SMH.

    • Snrub says:

Agreed. And I believe it’s an acorn/oak leaf pendant (hard to tell). If so, it’s giving me flashbacks to 90s Thanksgiving table settings, complete with pilgrim buckle shoes.
Also, since she wore her crest emblems (acorn/oak leaf) in jewelry form on her wedding day, I’m giving serious side eye that they’re popping up on another anniversary.

  35. Red Weather Tiger says:

I thought the picture was distorted, as no human could really look like Kate looks here, so I shifted my eye to the guy in the suit, who looked proportional and normal. Oh nooooo… how could she not realize???

  36. Brittney B says:

It’s like someone took a photo of a Christmas doll in a normal dress & then stre-e-e-e-e-etched the midsection in PhotoShop like a Stretch Armstrong doll.

  37. Ania says:

Jesus, this is so awful. All the money they have and Kate cannot dress herself to save her life. Does she ever see photos of herself and thinks „I should dress like that more!”?? They could have best stylists, best PR people because they CAN afford it. Kate’s wardrobe itself is a proof they think they know everything best and listen to no one. I would surround myself with professionals and just do what they tell me! No effort, no research what to do, no figuring out what works for my body. I have to pay heavy (for me) money for trainings to listen to experts and I wish I could do afford more. And those two…. hopeless case. All the time and money and they want to lounge all day. Aren’t they bored?

  38. mariahlee says:

this is really bad. the length, fit, print, and shoes are all bad and dated. i like her professional woman cosplay, but her taste in dresses is typically awful.

  39. SarahCS says:

    MY EYES!!

    What is this monstrosity?

    The horror.

  40. MangoAngelesque says:

My theory is the designers really dislike her and deliberately design against her figure, knowing full damn well the woman has NO idea what she’s doing. They just cluck and sign wistfully about how Diana would have loved to have seen her in this, and Katie’s off to the races.

    • Ania says:

I think it’s quite opposite, designers are covering their eyes when Kate choses their design and then „customizes” it. She is tall and thin and has a body that usually looks great in most modern designs. Still she manages to look bad and choose clothes that are intended for completely different bodies.

    • Dido says:

I hope so! The thought of this being an insider job makes me so happy.

  41. The Duchess says:

The creases, the strained buttons, the frumpy sleeves, it’s all just one big mess! This dress is truly awful and does nothing for her concerning figure. Her arms too! Oh dear, oh dear…

  42. Esme says:

I find it incredibly petty that the entire royal family had an outing or made an announcement today. Everyone from Charles, William, Kate and Bea…..Yet the only ones trending, in Canada at least, is Harry and Megan’s anniversary.

As for the dress there’s not enough words to describe it.

  43. DS9 says:

I know I’m a terrible person but that is one of the ugliest things I’ve seen in my whole life

    • Over it says:

Nope, your not a terrible person. That dress is hideous. And I have been around for a while

    • Mila says:

No me too, I’m so shocked I’m hysterically laugh 😆, it takes some TALENT to find something so ugly and be wilfully obtuse about it 🤣🤣

    • keroppi says:

I think only one of the previous Erdem dresses can compete.

    • Becks1 says:

It’s pretty ugly but we can never forget her outfits on the Scandinavian tour when she was pregnant with Louis. Especially that yellow thing.

  44. Over it says:

Karen keen plays dress up for the Christmas pantomime props, meanwhile Harry and Megs opened their third kitchen in India.

  45. Diamond Rottweiler says:

I’m really starting to believe she doesn’t own a mirror…

  46. TheOriginalMia says:

Boy…this dress brings back memories of high school and freshman year of college. I thought I was killing it in these dresses. Killing fashion is more like it. It really is an unflattering design, and she compounds it with that pattern. Yikes.

I’m laughing at the thought of Kate in this dress thinking she’s stepping on the Sussex’s joy at their wedding anniversary. Honey, they don’t care.

    • The Hench says:

Yeah, I had a dress like this with a dropped waist and hanging off me…in 1989.

  47. Ariel says:

Kate is pretty and she has a lovely figure.
And that dress is just really unflattering.
She’s not getting dressed alone in the dark.
Why didn’t someone say: let’s try something else.

And the obviousness of the pettiness of the royals makes them look so small.
Small minds, small lives. Certainly not aspirational.

Obsessed exes like the British press.
Seething, screaming for attention from someone who has moved out, moved on, barely notices, and cares even less.

    • Lizzie says:

She is petty and probably thought it would be fun to wear the tightest dress she owns on pregnant her sil’s anniversary.

  48. intheknow says:

I’ve come to the conclusion that she’s dressing to turn William off and send him back to rose pruning. That’s the only logical conclusion. She’s got the ring, the kids, the title, lifestyle and money. Why put up with his bald head and grubby hands if you don’t have to?

  49. Coco says:

I’m sorry, but what on earth is she wearing? She has a slim build, but my goodness why did she or her team of stylists decide on a dress with such a profile? The drop waist is beyond horrendous.

The colour, collar, pattern, length, drop waist. Just burn the whole dress!!

I’ve looked at this dress from all angles, and this is just not a good look. If it was Christmas season, I would understand the choose considering her pattern of theme dressing.

By the way, why does she consistently wear seemingly undersized masks?

  50. Seraphina says:

For a minute there I thought I missed summer and fall and we were at Christmas and this was a holiday visit.

  51. Ginger says:

This dress just highlights how incredibly skinny she is. This is not a good look.

  52. Midge says:

    Yo. that’s one ugly dress.

  53. AA says:

This is awful. As others have said, it just emphasized how painfully skinny she is, just like at Prince Phil’s funeral, those long skinny coats/dresses with buttons up the front. The other day some site was showing pictures of them in college and she looked slim but healthy. She is drifting into “no human is naturally that skinny” territory now. Also, it looks like a dress I had in 7th grade in the 80s, and that’s not a good thing.

    • The Hench says:

I suspect that she may have had a tummy tuck post babies – again, entirely up to her as her body her choice but if you google pics of her in a bikini you will find ones pre marriage on a yacht with William in a white bikini looking absolutely stunning and then ones later with him in a black bikini where there is not an ounce of fat on her torso. And I don’t mean muscly and fit like Pippa’s but abnormally sculpted. I’ve only ever seen that effect on celebs with tummy tucks.

      • Nic919 says:

It’s more than just that because if you look at her clavicles they are popping out because she is just that thin all over.

  54. keroppi says:

She desperately needs a stylist or needs to fire the one that she has.

Where do all of her clothes go? Do they go in a closet, cataloged, and never to be seen again? She has so many pieces that are nice, why choose this???

  55. Beach Dreams says:

I don’t know how she and her stylists did it, but they managed to find a hideously unflattering dress that simultaneously covers her up AND highlights her disappearing figure. All I’ll say on that last part is that no one around her seems to care and history is definitely repeating itself in one way or another…

  56. Coco says:

Oops *understand the choice considering… *

  57. the other one says:

The buckle? On the shoes- eesh

  58. IMARA219 says:

I actually really like the dress but then again I love that pattern. What I dislike terribly about the dress is the horrible drop waist and the shoes she used to style it. I keep thinking some what-ifs: what if it was a blouse and she wore it with a black knee-length tutu, what if it was a blouse with a different collar and worn with flare pants (because she really can rock that look), what if as a dress it wasn’t a drop waistline? So many possibilities for this to look nicer. Even though I mildly like the dress, I wouldn’t say she’s redefining daytime fashion though.

    • Lizzie says:

I think it was a regular dress that she had remade with a way too long and tight drop waist.

      • IMARA219 says:

Oooo Lizzie, now I bet that was a cute dress. With a natural waistline, slightly shorter hem, and fewer buttons this would be a cute retro style.

    • Becks1 says:

I really like the pattern too, I love houndstooth, but i wouldn’t wear it in May.

      • IMARA219 says:

Becks1 I have to stop myself from wearing plaid year-round 😊. Houndstooth is such a gorgeous pattern. It just screams Fall.

  59. Jay says:

This dress feels both fussy and unflattering, and I am predisposed to love plaid!

You know who is serving it, though? The guy escorting her around the museum! Well cut suit, coordinated but not matchy tie, adult-sized mask in a cool pattern…way to go, V and A guy!

    • Jay says:

I’m mentally editing this so that it’s a tailored suit instead of a sad dress – keep the strong shoulders and the buttons, make the lapels sharp instead of round and floppy, and pair it with cropped trousers or a cute pencil skirt and a matching plaid mask!

Money is just wasted on the rich.

    • Sofia says:

Yeah, this is the director of the V£A, Tristram Hunt, former Labour MP. He looks fantastic, no?

  60. PineNut says:

I’m old so I like it.

  61. Kitty says:

See ole Katie got de botox and hair done, shame she didn’t look in de mirror on de way out, sorry where on earth did she find that dress, in May too, beyond words! You know even if l had a issue with someone, l would still acknowledge their anniversaries or birthday etc, such bad bad look for this family , Charles and William, who never said or did anything to hurt other people over de years ! NOT

    • Chrissy (The Original) says:

Especially since the Sussexes sent well wishes to the Lamebridges for their anniversary a few weeks ago. And Beatrice should know better as she’s supposedly Harry’s friend. This family! Ugh.

  62. nutella toast says:

Bahahahaha….before I read the article my first reaction was, “Geez, she looks like she’s stuffed into a toilet paper tube”. Guess you felt the same way!

  63. Ann says:

I had a dress similar to this . . . IN 1987!!! I bought it at Talbot’s on sale and it looked better than this.

  64. Mooney says:

The hair saved the day. And maybe the heels too, I guess. I’m rather focused on the handsome dude walking with her. Looks like the Duchess Subscribe shares my opinion 🤣🤭

  65. Stacy Dresden says:

Sad Plaid Tube is my new name for her in my head.

  66. GR says:

However the guy with her did a great job with mask and tie pattern coordination.

  67. equality says:

She looks more relaxed and natural here than in most events with the over-doing it grin. Does doing events with Will make her more tense so she overplays it?

    • Lemons says:

No, she’s with an attractive young guy who is giving her all the attention in these shots it seems, so she’s just being Kate here. With a woman, she would probably be fighting to pay attention, bobble her head, and appear intelligent. The shots would be very different.

I love the dress’s pattern. It’s quirky and fun. But Kate always chooses the MOST tragic silhouettes. I don’t get it.

    • IMARA219 says:

Can you imagine not being comfortable around your own husband? That’s a straight-up red flag move and I would pity her if she wasn’t a blatantly racist mean girl.

    • Kalana says:

That has always stood out to me that even after 20 years together, Kate is too often uncomfortable around William. She seems to have only recently stopped looking for his approval and I wonder how much of that is due to it possibly being true that their marriage is effectively over and they live separately.

    • Nic919 says:

She always acts less tense at engagements on her own. That seems to me a red flag that her own husband makes her feel tense, but they are going to ignore all issues unless they can’t avoid it.

  68. Lisa says:

    What an awful dress!

  69. Cherie says:

I don’t hate it but then again I don’t hate her either. The people in the background aren’t exactly looking springy either with the lady in a trench and hat. But I’m in Colorado so wouldn’t wear it this time of year.

Botox and fillers don’t work the way y’all seem
to think they do — I have no doubt she does both (same) but not at the rate y’all insist she’s had it done. Botox is months between and filler much longer .

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Cherie, I don’t hate her either. I’ve concluded that she has the life she wants. I do think someone needs to find out if she has an ED, because if she does that puts a lot of stress on the body. That she chooses a dress like this after being in the brf for 10 years is asking for ridicule in my opinion. How can she be this bad at choosing a dress?

  70. Amelia says:

So guess who else wore Jennifer Chamandi pumps at that amazing school event during their “you could’ve had a bad b*tch tour”?

  71. Jaded says:

Dreadful outfit, absolutely dreadful. Everything about it is wrong. Why wouldn’t she have worn a simple, elegant pantsuit of some kind? It only exaggerates her already painful thinness — it’s almost as if she wants to attract attention to how thin she’s become.

  72. Digital Unicorn says:

The ONLY thing i like is her hair – the best I’ve seen it in a while. The dress, BURN IT, its is really that awful.

    • lucy2 says:

I think her hair and eye makeup look good, but that dress is a crime. It’s so dated, and so heavy for spring, it looks Christmas-y. 1980s Christmas-y.

    • notasugarhere says:

How blonde is she going to go? All the way to Diana’s shade?

  73. Olivia says:

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that MEDIOCRITY can pay to greatness 💁🏻‍♀️

  74. Plums says:

wow what a clash of styles, not a fan at all. I’m not against Kate wearing a drop waist in theory- I think rail thin people like her have the non-figure to make them work- but this particular design really isn’t working. And It sort of feels like she took something that was literally designed in the 1980s, not a retro influenced modern look, but something literally as old as she is, and she didn’t bother styling herself to go along with it. idk, maybe I’d like it better if her hair was styled differently.

  75. Curious says:

isn’t it early morning in California? maybe they just woke up. while Catherine is walking around like christmas tree visiting a museum,Meghan is maybe brushing her teeth .lmao. they will have a normal simple anniversary dinner at home with their son.. they have good happy secret memories between themselves for when they got married. remember when they got married, someone had already mention skin tone to harry ,but not to Meghan. they knew if they mention that to Meghan they would be insulting her. then we have Meghan made Catherine cry. when Catherine go to bed tonight is when harry ,in all the pain and suffering they went through it bonded them closer together. Meghan/Harry will be celebrating 3 yrs together, they survived that hell of a fire road the royal family made them walk..

  76. Nina says:

She looks like she raided my mom’s mid-80’s wardrobe. But my mom has moved on from those styles. And why is the dress so tight?

  77. lucylee says:

Straight as a telegraph pole and flat as a pancake(anterior and posterior).
Botox and fillers keep the face looking full along with the hair length (wiglets to hide thinning hair), but she can’t do much about how thin she is. She is so much thinner than she was at the time of her engagement.
Sadly, she reminds me of Karen Carpenter.
I’m not an MD, nor do I play one on TV. These are my observations from afar.

  78. Mel says:

Wow, that dress is a lot of ugly. It reminds me of the dresses I wore to church as a kid.

  79. TabithaD says:

She really loves a frumpy dress doesn’t she. This one is terrible. It’s hard to believe she’s still in her 30’s and dresses like this.
TBH the only look I really liked on her was when she wore outfits by Pakistani designers on their tour of Pakistan – those sort of long line tops with slim trousers worked well on her frame, I thought.

  80. Lizzie says:

The dress reminds me of that hideous gray and white plaid dress. Is Bill making her wear ugly clothes, that’s the only reason I can come up with her wearing this dress.

  81. Marion says:

OMG how is that even possible to think such a thing would actually fit??!!!
I’m not a fashion expert but I’d be able to create a more stylish/elegant/modern look with half the price she paid for that rug. Everything is WRONG with that coat/dress and she looks like she has her a*** down her knees.
And, while I’m not a Meghan fan, she sure makes Kate classic/dull/”dowdy”
Meghan is effortlessly chic and looks far more “fresh” than Kate (fresh face, fresh hair, fresh style!)

  82. Curious says:

whoever is dressing her should be fired.

  83. ClaraBelle says:

    I feel the same.

  84. Mia says:

The photo is heavily edited to make her skin look warmer / tanned,
evidence: bright orange shadows on the floor.

  85. Seri says:

With this colour pallet it looks like they are channeling The Union Jack

  86. hunter says:

    oh dear god 😮

I usually love Catherine’s long tailored looks but DROP WAIST IS NOT HER FRIEND.

Wow. Terrible choice made here. Terrible.

  87. L4frimaire says:

That dress is so fug, the shoes are fug, and proportions are terrible. Makes her look like a super long torso, short legs, and linebacker shoulders. The pattern is very Christmas, not exactly a late spring look. The thing is this is more her real style and what she looks comfortable in, more than the more modern suits and trousers. Anyway, not a good look.

  88. april says:

Ugly dress. No one would look good in it.

  89. Lou-Anne Farrell says:

This reminds me of a Laura Ashley dress I bought in about 1986. I loved it when I bought it but hardly wore it because it was so unflattering on me. Plus, that was 35 years ago and it’s not a style that has gotten better with age…

  90. Julia K says:

If Rose Hanbury is indeed the royal mistress then Kate needs to be as slender as her rival if not thinner. William likes this body type. I think she is just trying hard to keep her man. Without him she goes back to being a nobody.

  91. BitchyBitch says:

    Jesus Christ she’s thin.

  92. nicegirl says:

I swear it’s 1987 rn and I’m graduating from the 6th grade headed into middle school.

  93. nicegirl says:

    Daytime glamour smh omg

  94. rawiya says:

I hate what the coats and dresses she wears do to her figure. They make her torso seem unnaturally long. We all wear things that don’t flatter our bodies, but for most of us it’s because we don’t have access to designers and seamstresses who will fit things properly. I don’t understand how someone can look at that dress on her and think it flatters her. It doesn’t.

  95. Keira says:

Above the (natural) waist this is cute (puffy shoulders and big collars are on trend) but the whole silhouette is so wrong on Kate. Trinny Woodall talks a lot about this body type as she, too, is long waisted. Trinny would never be caught dead in such a dress. Kate: Please watch Trinny’s many, many videos on dressing!

  96. Sparky says:

I’m not as critical as many here are about Kate’s style as I tend to dress quite conservatively as well. I’m not a fan of the sleeves but I’m fine with the print, etc. (I think the print would be cute as a suit/peplum jacket.) To me the biggest problem with this dress is that it’s 1000% not suited to her body type. It’s sooooo unflattering! And secondly, it’s too tight.

  97. A says:

Her make up looks good today, and the lighting is doing her a world of favours.

But, setting aside even the ugliness of that dress for a moment, what’s really not helping her at all is the fact that she’s really fucking thin here, and it shows. Like, that makes the whole dress look so much worse; it overwhelms her frame even more, and it highlights all the busy shit that’s been stuck onto it.

  98. Kyre says:

This dress is a continuation of her cosplay. It totally is out of season, but also see the video they just posted on IG/Twitter of the event. It’s all Alice in Wonderland themed and Waity is so vapid she thought she should dress as the Red Queen. Literally identical to the cartoon Red Queen outfit. She’s so desperate.

Clearly she’s never ‘red’ the book.

  99. Ann says:

I know vintage is in style, and that dress is a combo of vintage 80s and vintage 90s, but in the worst way. The collar, the slightly puffed sleeves, the dropped waist. It’s fine if you’re a young hipster and you’re upcycling something from a thrift shop and just trying to be fun, but that is not what is happening here. She thinks this is elegant and attractive and flattering.

I do like plaid, but not a full-on plaid dress like this, with long sleeves and long skirt and big collar. It looks like what I might have worn to a Christmas party in the 80s, which makes it not only dated but age inappropriate. It looks like a Lanz nightgown or something. It might as well be flannel. Or taffeta.

    Ghastly.

  100. Keri says:

This dress is proof that she has no real friends and her stylist hates her. She’s tall and thin, which usually means she can wear most designer outfits and look great most of the time. And yet, with all the money and resources in the world, she consistently goes out looking like this. And no one within her circle was honest enough to say a word to her about how bad the dress looked on her. For such a tall woman, the dress manages to make her look like she has short, stumpie legs. How is it that no one cared enough to point that out to her?

Anyway, does anyone else think that the dude in the blue suit standing next to her looks like a younger 20 something Harry? I did a double take thinking it was an old picture of a dress she wore on an engagement with Harry.

  101. Dido says:

Also, Daily Mail (couldn’t help but click!) reported Keen saying the V&A Museum is “much better without the tourists”

Besides sounding borderline xenophobic, I thought the main reason for royals existing was bringing tourism money to the UK.

  102. JRenee says:

Dutchess Kate aside, I can’t imagine this 1985 dress looking good on anyone…yikes

  103. Nouri says:

I think she looks really good (face and hair). Yes she’s unusually thin and she’s not trying to trick the camera into looking like she’s curvy. Women are people who come in all shapes and sizes. Not just objects who must conform to societies current standards of objectification.

  104. Kyliegirl says:

The single white female thing is getting scary. Her hair is exactly like Meghan’s hair in her last appearance. I get there is going to be cross-over now and again because they are the same age and styles are what they are, but this happens too frequently. I really hope someone is asking if she is ok.

  105. Tessa says:

Very unflattering, emphasizes her looking very underweight. And also dowdy. Does anybody advise her on what to wear?

  106. SMOOTHOP says:

There are very few words for this dress….so many buttons…But in all honesty this is a dress that Rose would wear. She has a very long torso so I believe Kate had the dress altered to show her very long torso. William must be really smelling the Rose bush lately.

    • MMadison says:

Agreed. Looks like she slapped some of Charlotte’s blond highlights into her hair as well. She’s so BORING!

  107. notasugarhere says:

9 to 5 called, they want Jane Fonda’s wardrobe back.

  108. Cat C says:

Is she pregnant? How are those sad little buttons straining? What is she doing to lose all this weight?

  109. Dierski says:

    OMJay-sus that dress is FUG.

  110. SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

She has seamstresses, dressers, stylists. Did none of them care enough to point out how atrocious that dress is, and how wrong for her figure?

  111. BrickyardUte says:

This looks like a photoshop fail where she stretched out her frame to look thinner. I get that she is really that thin, it’s just jarring to look at.

  112. alexc says:

The 80’s fashion trauma is real.

  113. Tilewa says:

Hate this look…it’s not flattering g at all. I would prefer one of her pretty pastel coat dresses even if they’re boring (Spring like colors, no wrinkles and very flattering to her figure). She’s worn a ton of them to Christenings and Trooping the Color and they look nice. This is just bad. WHO is advising/dressing her?!!! I agree they should be fired!

  114. AuntRara says:

That dress looks like a roll of Christmas wrapping paper.

  115. Colleen says:

I hate that dress. Her hair looks nice though
