I’m not bothered by this or them , I mean did we expect them to live in a shed? It looks nice, that’s all I got for this.

  2. Lou says:

I actually kind of like their house. It’s a nice change from the all-white hotel looking homes we see so much from the über rich.

I do think they did Mila Kunis dirty on the cover though…

  3. lucy2 says:

I like their place, I was looking at the photos last night, but it doesn’t feel very homey to me. More like some fancy ranch hotel or resort.

    • MaryContrary says:

Looks like a high end resort lobby-beautiful but not remotely homey. I like tall ceilings but these are a bit much.

      • lucy2 says:

I had tall ceilings in my previous house – what a pain! It was a small place so I loved that it made it feel bigger and open, but it was a pain to clean and to heat. It definitely has a lobby feel. Opening those doors must be pretty great though, in that nice climate.

I wish AD wouldn’t photograph everything so staged though. There’s very little artwork, personal possessions, family photos, etc.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

      This.
It’s a very sterile ranch resort.
Sometimes AD will have fabulous homes with amazing interiors and gardens. Other times they have basic theme homes that look like display models where it gives you just enough to imagine what you could do with it. This is the latter.

All I was thinking was how awful it is for the cleaning crew to polish those glass orbs in the kitchen where all the grease and smoke will rise to and collect.

      • Jenn says:

Oh lord, that’s the style now. I just bought my first home, and it indeed came with glass orbs dangling over the counter. My husband loves them, but he also keeps bumping into them. At least Mila’s and Ashton’s are higher up? I don’t know.

    • Jenn says:

100% accurate!!! Last night I said to my husband, “Look, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s house looks *exactly* like our wedding venue!” (We got married at a ranch-resort that also hosts, like, yoga retreats. Beautiful, but not particularly homey, as you said.)

    • Kebbie says:

Yeah I was expecting something completely different after I read Mila’s quote about them wanting a home not an estate. It doesn’t look lived in or comfortable at all to me.

    • The Recluse says:

It reminded me of one of those trendy brew pub/steak house/restaurant set ups. Not very homey, but hey, if that’s what they wanted….

  4. Midge says:

Love their house, can’t stand Ashton, and thus I reserve a big ol’ side eye for Mila by association.

  5. Plums says:

eh, I like Ashton and Mila even though they can be exhausting (and they stayed loyal to Danny Masterson well past the time it was acceptable), but they’ve mostly kept to themselves and are pretty chill, so I’m not gonna give them shit for a spread in architectural digest. They’re hardly the first super wealthy pair to show off. Though I am confused about that cover. I can’t figure out what Mila is supposed to be leaning on? She’s clearly leaning her elbow on something, but it doesn’t seem like there’s anything there.

  6. Case says:

Their house looks really cool. I don’t really get how their story is any more of a humblebrag than anyone else being featured in AD?

    • Jenn says:

I think Lainey (the website) is saying “humblebrag” in the context of “What, this old thing?” The author of the AD feature actually uses the word “modest” right out of the gate, which gives the entire profile an almost satirical tone. Then Kutcher says, “We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house,” and the disconnect between that statement and everything else that follows is downright hilarious. (I think it’s also just amusing to see what “industrial farmhouse” looks like on an ultra-luxury budget.)

  7. Eurydice says:

AD spreads always look so sterile, like a realtor has dressed the place for resale. There’s not a book or piece of art or a single crumb of anything to show that anybody actually lives there, let alone “smart and inquisitive” people.

    • liz says:

In many cases, that’s exactly what’s happening. The owners are about to put the place on the market, so giving AD access is free marketing for the property.

In other cases, the designer/decorator makes a deal with the magazine to get access to the celebrity home they just finished. They get a ton of free advertising and the homeowner gets a big break on their renovation.

  8. Sigmund says:

The house pretty much fits their image. That’s all I’ve got.

  9. Juliette says:

I love those flamingo sandals and would for sure where them. With the right outfit, they’d be gorgeous. Just what I need is more shoes and shoe envy lol. Going to have buy these I think!

  10. Lila says:

I love that house. Dunno if I’d want to live in the entire thing, but there are definitely elements I’d borrow.

Re:sister wives, Robyn is a spoiled brat. Saving ‘grocery money’ is pretty rich when she polices anyone eating from her fridge except her own family. She won’t be pleased until she’s the ONLY wife.

  11. Randi Sheinson says:

You gave me my laugh of the day with “gator” for “gaiter”. I’ve been picturing poor Beth Harmon with an alligator eating her face. Thanks!!!

  12. Mcmmom says:

There was a house for sale about an hour outside of Houston that was legitimately two old barns that had been taken down from their original location in the northeast, moved to TX, and then converted into a house. It was really cool and I fantasized about it for a few days, until I realized how it would feel to be snuggled up next to a fire in a living room that was about 40 feet tall. Great in concept, not so much in execution.

    • fluffy_bunny says:

That wall of windows in Ashton and Mila’s barn is also on the other side that you can’t see. With those ceilings and all that glass it’ll be a bitch to heat and cool. I saw the inside on Entertainment Tonight the other day.

      • lucy2 says:

The heating and cooling might not be that big a deal for Southern California. We have a LOT of clients who want to do that big wall of doors stuff here, and show us pictures of California and Hawaii, but for their Northeast climate, so it’s a lot tougher.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

Since the house is self sustaining they probably have geothermal or radiant floor heating. With high ceilings that’s the best and most efficient form of heating a house.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Mcmmom, which is a ludicrous idea anywhere in Texas. As a native Houstonian, I could not imagine the electric bills yet alone outstanding insulation. A pet peeve of mine is residents in CA having these luscious lawns with grass and grand landscaping with the entire state suffering from a 40 year drought. Residents of CA should start looking into xeriscape to save on water usage since they have depleted surrounding states of their natural water resources.

      • MsGnomer says:

I live in a California city. Big Ag needs and takes the water, as well as Nestle corporation taking from under our state parks…. No one except social outcasts are watering lawns.

  13. L4frimaire says:

I actually really like the house and interior design, although it looks more like an upscale Napa Valley hotel than a family home. It looks very staged and not fully lived in yet. The designer designed Soho Farmhouse so there is definitely that kind of commercial feel about it. Lots of nice details, and very pricey. 6 acres is a lot of land in LA for an estate they don’t want to call an estate.

  14. Rnot says:

Their house has a lot of bad feng shui. It’s full of elements that look neat but create discomfort.

  15. Lena says:

That house doesn’t look cozy or homey at all. And the OTT chandelier looks ridiculous there. Not a fan.

  16. tealily says:

Damn, that Danny Masterson story was brutal. I wasn’t expecting all the gory details. What a pig.

  17. Stan says:

I think you are all being so innocent about Mila and Ashton being on the cover of AD at exactly the same time as their best friend Danny Masterson is in court for multiple counts of rape. We have known for months when Masterson would have to appear (to the day and hour). You think it’s a coincidence that Mila’s name came up today in the trial and is now forever associated with these horrific acts? There is no way this cover and cushy piece just happened to come out at the same time as the court testimony. No way. This is some very good PR work by Mila and Ashton’s team.

    • Golly Gee says:

I was wondering about that too TBH. At the same time seeing them in pop culture news at the same time Masterson is in court, only draws attention to the fact that they are friends. If it was just Masterson in the news I wouldn’t think of Ashton and Mila right away, but seeing their faces on a magazine cover at the same time makes me think oh yeah, they’re friends with Danny Masterson. Interestingly while Mila’s name has come up during the hearing, she isn’t mentioned in press coverage of the hearing except in Tony Ortega’s blog.

  18. mosia says:

is that AD kiss of death? Are they splitting up? It has been a pattern for celebrities there for a while, aniston, watts etc

  19. Sarcasm101 says:

I don’t know exactly why but I can’t stand him. LOL!!

  20. FilmTurtle says:

I don’t dislike the house, but rich people cosplaying as humble servants of the earth down in th’ holler always cracks me up. It’s a classic.

  21. Tursitops says:

Gaiter, not gator, although it would be fun to see her with a gator around her neck.

  22. Betsy says:

That house is hideous. Sad, dingy, sterile. I assume part of the staging is always to remove personal effects; that dump needs them.
