The Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury to try to indict Donald Trump

Trump holds a Cabinet Meeting

The past month has been full of exciting news about the Trump Crime Syndicate. We heard that Florida authorities are trying to figure out what they will have to do if federal authorities (or NY authorities) try to arrest Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. We also heard that NY state and the Manhattan DA are working concurrent criminal investigations into Trump Org, and the state and city are working together and sharing information. And now this: the Manhattan DA, Cy Vance, has convened a grand jury to decide whether to indict Trump.

Manhattan’s district attorney has convened the grand jury that is expected to decide whether to indict former president Donald Trump, other executives at his company or the business itself, should prosecutors present the panel with criminal charges, according to two people familiar with the development.

The panel was convened recently and will sit three days a week for six months. It is likely to hear several matters — not just the Trump case — during its term, which is longer than a traditional New York state grand-jury assignment, these people said. Like others, they spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. Generally, special grand juries such as this are convened to participate in long-term matters rather than to hear evidence of crimes charged routinely.

The move indicates that District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr.’s investigation of the former president and his business has reached an advanced stage after more than two years. It suggests, too, that Vance thinks he has found evidence of a crime — if not by Trump, by someone potentially close to him or by his company.

Vance’s investigation is expansive, according to people familiar with the probe and public disclosures made during related litigation. His investigators are scrutinizing Trump’s business practices before he was president, including whether the value of specific properties in the Trump Organization’s real estate portfolio were manipulated in a way that defrauded banks and insurance companies, and if any tax benefits were obtained illegally through unscrupulous asset valuation. The district attorney also is examining the compensation provided to top Trump Organization executives, people familiar with the matter have said.

In a statement issued Tuesday evening, Trump called the seating of the grand jury “a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in American history.”

“This is purely political, and an affront to the almost 75 million voters who supported me in the Presidential Election, and it’s being driven by highly partisan Democrat prosecutors,” Trump said. “Our Country is broken, our elections are rigged, corrupt, and stolen, our prosecutors are politicized, and I will just have to keep on fighting like I have been for the last five years!”

[From WaPo]

“Our Country is broken, our elections are rigged, corrupt, and stolen, our prosecutors are politicized…” God I’m so glad that Twitter deplatformed him. Reading that was not good for my blood pressure. Anyway, while grand juries are technically “secret proceedings,” I would expect that we’ll be hearing a lot from and around this grand jury. Cy Vance is the one with all of Trump’s tax returns, so the criminality Vance uncovered is likely financial. But it’s all connected – financial crimes lead to crimes against the country, and the financial crimes were hiding Trump’s payoffs to other criminals and women he abused, threatened and harmed.

Prosecutors are politicised? Who stuffed the Supreme Court with hard right judges who are planning to take away abortion rights and drive feminism into the dark ages?
Nail this SOB, Vance. Nail his orange hide to the wall.

    • Me says:

If it comes to indictments of Trump himself, my bet is on the old man legging it for Dubai. He has property there and they’ll take him in.

      • Kelly says:

I wonder about that because I expected him to run after the inauguration. But he’s broke, owes hundreds of millions to Deutsche Bank, and doesn’t have the power of the presidency behind him any more. There’s nothing he can offer Dubai, or the Saudis, or Putin. They’ve all used him as much as possible, why would they take him in if he can’t offer him anything else?

Made my morning. Didn’t know his DNA was requested to establish his sexual harassment of Jean Carroll. Apparently, she kept the black dress

    • Amy T says:

Bless her. Nicely done, E. Jean.

    • damejudi says:

How sweet will it be if this (smart, determined) woman brings Trump to justice?

      • olliesmom says:

Yes. And just as it should be and was meant to be. A woman that I’m sure that he has deemed “nasty” (determined, brilliant and can think circles around him) on more than one occasion. Cheers, Jean!

  3. Lizzie says:

One of the msnbc reporters pointed out civil cases against trump in NY are still moving forward. Trump will be after those doners with emails big time, or bigly, to pay for his defense.

  4. Lightpurple says:

“The district attorney also is examining the compensation provided to top Trump organization executives …”

That’s Nagini and her salary and consulting fees. And she was less than truthful under oath in her deposition. Nagini is going to go through some things

    • Persephone says:

I really, really hope that’s true.

    • Betsy says:

That would really cheer me. Her dim brothers are criminal in their own rights, but Lil Ivana seemed like she was integral to the bigger crimes in a way the two dolts were not.

      • Mac says:

I heard an interview with David Fahrenthold yesterday and he thinks Eric is the only kid with criminal exposure for the company’s crimes. Apparently Ivanka and coke head were smart enough to stay away from the straight up crimes.

    • Tom says:

      Senator Ivanka (R-Florida)? President Ivanka?

      The dream just died.

      • BlueToile says:

I think we all should have learned by now never to put anything past a Trump and their MAGAts. When Trump announced his candidacy, with that horribly racist speech, I laughed and told my son he wouldn’t last 2 week before the GOP shut him down. Egg. On. My. Face. Put nothing past any Trump, Trump supporter, or the Republican Party ever again.

      • olliesmom says:

I feel the same way BlueToile. There were many instances when I thought that it was over for him, but nope. His followers ignored those things and voted for the flim flam con man.

    • Golly Gee says:

She’ll have lots of time then to work on her next book: Women Who Do Time. The dust cover will have a photo of her in pinstripes looking out from behind steel bars.

  5. Diana says:

I worry about celebrating too hard yet bc weve been burned many times over when this menace to society has escaped consequences in the past but….. damn!!! 🙌

    • Golly Gee says:

Same! I also worry that the names of those on the grand jury will be leaked and they will be terrorized by MAGAs.

      • Darla says:

Yep, and also, how are they gonna get a jury (if he’s indicted) with zero maga?

    • Noodle says:

I had the same reaction. I remember how excited I was for Mueller and how let down I was after that report. Trying to temper expectations.

  6. Amy T says:

He’s spent his work life like a rhree-year-old with his hand in the cookie jar and his eyes closed. “No one can see me!”

We see you, Donald. And you left crumbs everywhere.

    • elle says:

      LMAO… comedy gold!

The sad thing is all the dumbasses who cover their eyes and say, “He’s right!”

  7. Becks1 says:

There has to be so much corruption and illegal activity in Trump’s business affairs that I can’t even imagine what Vance is finding. I think we won’t know the full scope of his illegal activities for years, when all the investigations – Manhattan, New York state, SDNY, any civil proceedings – are all wrapped up, and it’s going to end up being huge.

  8. North of Boston says:

I swore to myself that after Biden became President I would never ever click on another article/post about the Orange Menace: I’ve had enough of him and I don’t want to encourage media outlets to keep chattering about him and giving a platform to his bloviating and mean spirited narcissistic ignorance.

The only exception to that rule was for articles that had words like ‘indict’ ‘arrest’ or ‘convict’ in the headline. Today is that happy day.

    • Betsy says:

There’s been so much coming out about him. Jeff Bezos might be buying a tranch of stuff to include the Apprentice tapes, long rumored to contain Trump using hardcore racist language (and a lot more, if Noel Casler is to be believed).

      • Snuffles says:

I saw Stephen Colbert talking about that last night! I’m intrigued! Bezos is definitely petty enough to pay few billion for that and release it. He despises Trump.

      • Golly Gee says:

Unless they contain evidence of illegality on his part, the racist comments will only endear him more to those who still support him. None of the outrageous, horrible things that he has said or done have lessened his popularity for them. Those who already hate him now may end up hating him more if that’s even possible, but otherwise it won’t change anything. The republican party will keep kissing his azz as long as he can get them votes.

      • Louisa says:

We’re way past the point of Trump losing support because of racist language. The GQP will make some weak statement that they condemn his comments blah blah blah… and then continue to stand by him and lick his boots.

      • Lightpurple says:

Amazon just announced it bought MGM, which basically means MGM products will be available on Prime but also means that Bezos, owner of The Washington Post, now owns all the Apprentice materials. None of that is likely relevant to any trial he’s facing but Bezos will definitely use it and he must be frantic and enraged

      • Darla says:

This is very interesting and the first I’ve heard about it. It gave me a real knee-jerk negative reaction. Not to Trump’s disgusting behavior on that set being exposed – expose it all – but to almost being in a position where we pick a Billionaire’s team? I don’t like this. Like, only a billionaire can save us from a billionaire? We mean nothing to any of them, of course.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Bezos has motive to use the Apprentice material against Trump – remember the man behind the blackmail attempt (David Pecker) is a close friend of Dump’s and often covered up stories of Dumps sexual assaults/affairs.

      • Golly Gee says:

@DU, Trump also wanted to retaliate against Bezos by raising parcel rates in the US postal system because of critical articles about him in the Washington Post. So Bezos has this ax to grind as well.

    • Merricat says:

      North, agreed.

  9. Kate B says:

    LOCK HIM UP

  10. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

So says the broken, rigged, corrupt, stolen and politicized.

  11. death by bacon says:

God bless America. I’ve been kicked off fb so this is the first place I have seen 45s super slow March to consequences. Go Vance go!

  12. EliseM says:

I have disliked this guy since his first divorce. He has gotten away with too much. It took a while, but Karma is tapping him on the shoulder!!

  13. Stephanie says:

Thankfully if he is arrested this summer it will be in NJ rather than FL (so little help from the politicians there). He’s already in Bedminster for the summer months.

    • Darla says:

And do we really think he’d stay there if the believed there was any danger of his imminent arrest? I don’t. If he leaves NJ before the summer ends, then I’ll believe something is happening. Otherwise, nope.

    • Louisa says:

The grand jury is said to be hearing evidence for 6 months so he’ll be back in FL by the time any indictment comes down.

  14. Mina_Esq says:

Trump makes me wish that the whole deep state thing is true, but only as it relates to the Trumps. Like, i hope there is some force out there ensuring that none of the Trumps ever come to power again.

  15. Heather says:

He literally makes me sick, makes me want to vomit. I have never in my life utterly despised a human being more than him. Morally reprehensible, racist, sexist, cheater, liar, and above all, a total dumb a$$. He’s not even remotely intelligent, yet he looks down on everyone else? He’s white trash with money. Fast food eating, non-intellectual, without any manners or class, zero thoughts above those of a common caveman.

  16. Marigold says:

Please can this family finely be held accountable for something? Anything? They have done so much wrong. Horrible, terrible people. I will never understand people who follow Trump.

  17. Jaded says:

Between Cy Vance and Letitia James, his goose is cooked. Vance finally got his hands on Trump’s tax returns and James’s office is now exploring possible criminal conduct at the Trump Organization. Trump deliberately reduced his taxable income by writing off millions of dollars of consulting fees, some of which were paid to Nagini, so she’s incriminated as well. Maybe I’m just an overly optimistic Canadian but I can’t see how he can wiggle out of this unless he scarpers with the $250 million or managed to scrape together for his PAC, which wouldn’t even cover the bank and personal debts he owes. I’m sure his good friend Putin would welcome him.

  18. Aimee says:

I just read that Trump allegedly (it’s always “allegedly”) tried to bribe a senator to get them to drop the Patriot’s Spygate investigation. This man knows no bounds.

I will NEVER understand how anyone could vote for this idiot.

  19. lisa taylor says:

What a pleasure to find out that this is taking place. It is such a joy that it is the exception and no longer the rule to have a story about the orange fool.

  20. Julia K says:

I have been around for a long time, a prolific follower of power and politics. None of the Trumps will do time behind bars. Punished, restricted, fined, whatever is in lieu of incarceration, public humiliation but no jail time. Of this I am sure. He knows where the bodies are buried and has the goods on too many important people. Decisions and under the table bargains will be agreed on after a period of public flogging just for appearances.

  21. Joe says:

    Another witch hunt,waist of money!!

    • olliesmom says:

Sarcasm Joe, or got lost on the web and ended up on the wrong site?

Oh, and that’s WASTE not waist.
