Prince Edward: We wish the Sussexes ‘the very best of luck,’ we’ve all been there

The Earl And Countess Of Wessex Visit Vauxhall City Farm

Last Friday, the Telegraph published that insane interview with the Earl and Countess of Wessex, aka Prince Edward and Sophie. Having read the whole damn thing, it was clear that the purpose of the piece was twofold: one, to reintroduce themselves as senior royals who are super-close to the Queen and two, to promote the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which Edward has taken over. Of course, no one really gives a sh-t about Edward and Sophie unless they’re being shady or sycophantic towards people in their family, which is why the main headline from that Telegraph piece was how nasty they were about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Oprah Winfrey.

This, it seems, is part of the larger plan of gaslighting and abuse from the “Magnificent Seven” royals. The royals will feed red meat to British consumers (anti-Americanism, anti-wokeness, jingoism, racism) and then pretend that everything is sweetness and sugar to the American and international press. Prince Edward has given a new interview to CNN, intended for American and international audiences. The purpose of the interview was to highlight his work. But the headlines are once again about the Sussexes and about how the royals feel about Americans.

Edward and the new dumb royal scandal: There is an elephant in the room. Hours before CNN’s US exclusive sit-down with the Earl, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were forced to deny a report in the British media that they had not consulted the Queen about using her childhood nickname of Lilibet for their newborn daughter. Headlines probing the relationship between the Sussexes and the rest of the family have been frequent since the couple relinquished their roles as working royals last year and relocated to California. Responding to a question about current family tensions, the Earl says the situation is “very sad.”

On the Sussexes: “Listen, weirdly we’ve all been there before — we’ve all had excessive intrusion and attention in our lives. And we’ve all dealt with it in slightly different ways, and listen, we wish them the very best of luck. It’s a really hard decision.” Edward says he hopes the couple are happy before returning to the subject of the rift, suggesting disagreements happen in every family. “It’s difficult for everyone but that’s families for you,” he says.

Why do Edward & Sophie describe everything as “poignant”? “[Losing Prince Philip] was an experience that so many other families have had to go through during this past year or 18 months and so in that sense, it was particularly poignant. There are an awful lot of people who haven’t been able to express the respect that they would like to have done. I think many people would have liked to have been there to support the Queen.”

How the Queen is doing: Edward responds that she is “actually doing remarkably well. I think that it was a fantastic partnership, but over the last couple of weeks, life has got considerably busier. Things are beginning to open up more, there are more activities so weirdly that sort of fills any particular void. I think there are going to be other times further along the year where I think that it will become a bit more poignant and a bit harder. But at the moment, thank you very much indeed for asking, I think that everybody’s in pretty good shape really, and just working rather too hard.”

On the Queen’s planned meeting with Joe Biden: Edward says the get-together is a “perfect opportunity” for the pair to meet. “We’ve all, as a family, had very close links with America. We spent or we used to, not so much now, but we used to spend a lot of time going backwards and forwards, maintaining those links, the connections, the heritage … (we’ve) been through a lot together. And that’s what really good friendship is about.”

[From CNN]

The British royals are desperate to remain on the good side of American diplomacy, American trade, American consumers and American tourism. Again, they want to talk to American outlets about how Britain and the US have cultural links and a shared history, all while they feed their domestic press a litany of anti-American stories about Meghan and Harry. You’d never catch Edward and Sophie saying “Oprah who?” to CNN. Which is very telling on its own. As for what he actually says about the Sussexes… vague doesn’t even describe it. And if this is all he has to say about a pregnant woman being harassed to the point of suicidal thoughts, well… I remain grateful that H&M got out alive.

Inbred poster boy…that top pic says it all!

    • Jolie says:

      Wow!!! 😯

    • I’ve never liked Edward and Sophie is a real piece of work. However, they are both good at talking out of both sides of their mouth. Frankly, I think they spoke their real truth in the British interview but think they can about face to the American media because I guess we peasants are just a bunch of dumb clucks to them.

    • LilacMaven says:

Once upon a time, he actually wasn’t bad looking. Especially by Windsor standards.

      Salty bitterness ages badly.

    • Anne Marie says:

Stop trying to make the Wessexes happen, Gretchen. They’re NEVER gonna happen.

The interview was supposed to highlight his “work”? What work? The RR can try to embiggen Ed & Sophie as ‘replacements’ for Harry & Meg, but it’s never ever ever ever gonna happen.

  2. Becks1 says:

Okay so his answer isn’t the best but it was clearly thought out beforehand, he knew he would be asked, and he had a good idea of what he was going to say. It’s about what I would expect from him especially on an American program.

The difference between this and their interview in the telegraph tells me that someone in the palace knows how a lot of their f*ckery plays over here, and they know they need to tailor their message accordingly.

    • BayTampaBay says:

What I do get is why the Palace does not understand that ALL media is global today. You cannot say one thing to CNN and another thing to The Times of London and not sound like you are talking out of both side of your mouth.

      • Ace says:

I don’t think that’s just a Palace issue but a general British issue. Looking at the Brexit related headlines and how the British Government has talked and keeps talking about it on BM it’s obvious they think nobody in the EU can understand English.

      • JT says:

@Baytampa Exactly. Their bullsh*t across the pond does not exist in a vacuum. They just trashed H&M one interview ago. They are so damn dumb it’s frustrating. My God.

      • Golly Gee says:

        Exactly!! Jeezus. 🤓

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@BayTampaBay, perfectly stated. You’d think social media “genius” Kate would have explained all this to them while “modernizing” the monarchy.lol

      • Lorelei says:

@Bay SERIOUSLY! When will this occur to someone in palace comms?? Unreal

      • Jay says:

@Bay, I honestly think they are so insular that they might not realize! It’s not only about giving one type of interview to one outlet that has to stand up to global scrutiny, but they are so completely unable to see beyond their own noses, it just exposes them as unqualified and unsuited to public service in every way.

      • equality says:

@Ace It wouldn’t matter if you spoke English or not, you can translate languages on line through a lot of different apps and outlets. They apparently are not very tech savvy.

    • Mac says:

I think asking Edward and Sophie to gossip about Harry and Meghan was inappropriate for both news outlets, especially when the purpose of the interview is to talk about charitable work. The “Oprah who” comment was a polite way of saying don’t go there.

      • goofpuff says:

There was nothing polite about “Oprah who?”. Just a whole lot of racist classism. The polite thing would be to say “No comment.”

      • Becks1 says:

But they should have known they would be asked about it and had a better prepared response than chuckling and saying “oprah who?” Or later on when Sophie talked about how she was just a chat show host and most people in the UK wouldn’t know her.

Edward’s answer here is not great but I think it was at least thought out beforehand, he knew he was going to get the question.

      • teecee says:

If Edward and Sophie did not want to be asked about the Sussexes, they could have made a pre-interview stipulation that those questions would not be covered in the interview. Such stipulations are common in these kinds of interviews. They didn’t, probably because they knew that the journalists would then decline the interview, because the only thing interesting or newsworthy about the Wessexes are their connection to the Sussexes. They wanted the attention, and were willing to throw H&M to the wolves in order to get it.

Which is the story of the royals in general since M came on the scene.

      • The polite answer would have been, “no comment.” None of them have a clue about when to shut up. A reporter has the right to ask any question. I wish to God one of the would man up and throw a question about Andrew in there too. I’m assuming that all questions about Andrew are embargoed before any of them will agree to an interview. Why not stipulate ahead of time that questions about the Sussexes are also off the table? Because the Royals are fine with dragging the Sussexes every chance they get.

      • notasugarhere says:

There was nothing polite or politic about ‘Oprah who?’

      • BooyahB!tches says:

@Mac, SERIOUSLY?!! A “polite way” of saying something?! Gimme a break already: that nobody wannabe Sofa opened her idiot mouth and the bile fell out, like it does with pretty much every envious snakey Brit.

    • Truthiness says:

Edward was the one royal who chatted openly with the Sussexes at Commonwealth Day, I think he is trying to not step in all the piles of shit his brother leaves in his wake. And there is just sooo much shit! Since Charles is the male head of the firm and controller of the purse Edward has to try to dance wherever he is asked to, it’s still dancing among shitpiles. A dirty mess. But anyone trying to diminish Oprah while looking like an extra for the Lord of the Rings should expect a lot of comments.

  3. Oh_Hey says:

Is it just me or is there just not “there” there with the BRF. Everything they do, with the exception of the Keens jaunts to Scotland, is in some way about Harry and Meghan. Like they have nothing else going and nothing interesting to talk about besides them. And I don’t mean the tabloids – the actual family has seemed to figure out, too late, that they’ve got nothing but also don’t want to do anything to stop or fix it

    • Jolie says:

No it isn’t in some way about Harry and Meghan, at least not on this side of the Atlantic. It is just that some people () are always looking for a hidden agenda when there isn’t one, just the RF carrying on as normal. Don’t make the mistake of thinking what the press say is always either true, or what the general public thinks.

      • Kalana says:

“Don’t make the mistake of thinking what the press say is always either true.”

Yeah, we know. And your press is incredibly racist as well. And so is your RF.

      • Maria says:

If all this mess is what you consider normal then yikes.
As a person who studied British royal history for years – it’s not normal.

      • Nic919 says:

The non stop negativity by the media has permeated Britons in ways they don’t even realize. I had a conversation with a few colleagues from the Uk and they were repeating a few talking points I read from derangers even though they claimed they didn’t really follow the royals. It tends to get brushed off as not liking Meghan’s American ways but the reality is that it’s very xenophobic.

    • taris says:

      “we’ve all been there”.

      sure.

      • Lorelei says:

Yes, Sophie’s drama is definitely equivalent to what Meghan endured.

It must make every single member of the BRF SO MAD that the only way they get any press coverage at all (aside from Philip’s death) is if it somehow involves or mentions the Sussexes. They are so, so fcked, and possibly just beginning to realize just how badly.

      • Really? “They’ve all been there.” Every one of those lily white Royals has tried to Duchess while Black? What a crock of bull Edward is peddling.

      • Lyds says:

Even if you take out the crazy abuse, no, Edward, you have not all “been there.”

No one cared about you or your attempt at a Diana replacement. No one goes to an event because Edward and Sophie will be there. Any event where either of them would be the highlight is a one paragraph blurb/filler at best. Furthermore….zzzzz

Sorry I just dozed off…what were we talking about?

      • Joan says:

Is that what he will say to his daughter when they come for her?

  4. Myra says:

Oh? I don’t remember any one of them being racially abused. I definitely don’t remember their children being racially abused within days of being born, but maybe I was too young back then. It must have been tough for all of them to be attacked daily by “journalists” just for existing.

    • Becks1 says:

The whole “we’ve all been there” was not great IMO. But it was better than “Oprah who?”

      • Myra says:

Miles better. It’s the second time they have to mention the Sussexes to gain some traction towards their PR piece. I do like Edward better than the rest of them but honestly, they are uninteresting people.

      • Nic919 says:

I wonder how this would have played had it come out before the tominey interview.

      • Shelley says:

Yep. Proves H and M were not lying when they said the family’s respond was: “This is how it is, we have all been through it”.

      • Mac says:

The difference is Edward and Sophie’s scandals were self made. Meghan was just married to a royal while Black.

    • Over it says:

You are spot on. I wish these people on American television would ask Eddie what’s the deal with your wife Oprah comments and why does your country think it’s okay to constantly attack the only people of color in your family ?
      .

    • Cecilia says:

@Myra: they are incredibly committed to playing dumb and not trying to grasp what the real issue is. If only they were that committed to their charities.

      • Lemons says:

🙌🏾This right here. @Cecilia hit the nail on the head. They are always VERY committed to PR battles, but crickets when it comes to actually raising money and awareness for their charities and issues.

    • molly says:

” we’ve all been there before”
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RUDE AND RACIST!!!
Meghan has far more patience than me, because I’d scream that every day at these people.

  5. Over it says:

    I despise these backstabbing bitches.

  6. Jais says:

“We’ve all been there” No, no you haven’t been there, Edward. You’ve never ever been subjected to racial hatred like Meghan and her children have but way to show your privilege and a complete lack of empathy. And wishing them the best of luck? They need true support from family and not wishes of luck. Omfg.

    • Over it says:

      Again yes yes ,

      • JT says:

“We’ve all been there.” Who? Edward’s been where? People can’t even remember that the queen birthed him for him to even have press intrusion. I personally didn’t know the queen had a son that wasn’t named Charles or Andrew until Meg married in.

It must kill Sophie that she will never happen and she now has to ride the black girl’s coattails to get any press. Sit down. You’re not going to happen.

    • Gail says:

“We’ve all been there” is the RF’s version of “We don’t see colour”… because they don’t wake up in the morning wondering if their beloved son will be dead by dusk. They don’t worry that someone will fire them because of a hair style. They don’t have to be concerned their daughter…..oh, well, y’all know.
“We’ve all been there” is gaslighting 101
      …and a lie

  7. Sure says:

If he’s been there does that mean he’s had suicidal thoughts like M?

    • UnionSnack says:

And where has been him at Commonwealth service while his wife was sitting like Harry and Meg were never exist?

  8. Heidi says:

“We’ve all had excessive intrusion and attention in our lives.”

I can think of some words Edward forgot to mention:

    Hate campaign
    Racism
    Conspiracy
    Sabotage

  9. Amy Bee says:

He described the situation as sad. That’s not really being supportive of Harry and Meghan. A better answer would be he understood their desire for a different life but he wishes them all the best.

  10. Jegede says:

    I like Edward.👌

He’s always tried to be diplomatic about the Sussexes, in spite of all provocations by the RRs and he was the only one decent to Meghan at the Commonwealth service.

    • Robin says:

I know. I do, too. I suppose it’s little comfort, knowing you’re the best of a bad lot. He was civil and friendly at the service, which contrasted hugely with the vile woman sitting in front. I like his approach to formal duties, which can be very funny and human. I also remember how much ridicule and mockery he got over here for possibly being gay. He formed a television production company (not sure whether it’s still going) after thoughts of becoming an actor were dumped. This ambition to get into the arts obviously meant he was gay in 80s/90s Britain. The assumption and jokes rumbled around the tabloid press and higher; he was seen as someone to laugh about. I always feel he keeps himself at a distance because of that time, and also that he didn’t like his father.

      • molly says:

I like Edward too. He and Sophie both seem to do their best to keep their head down, stay out of trouble, and do what’s asked. He’s in WAY over his head trying to talk about the Sussexes though. He’s best to keep Meghan’s name out of his mouth.

      • Courtney B says:

I agree. And I do think Edward, at least, after missteps in the 80s and 90s, was content with a lower profile. He has been a hard worker fling the things they’re supposed to do for little attention even though, if you’re going to have a RF, report on that stuff and not just the glitzy stuff. He’s like Anne in that way. And even now people throw homophobic slurs and comments which don’t reflect well on the sayer. Yes, it’s not the same thing nor was it on the level Meghan, especially given he didn’t have to deal with 24 he media, a clickbait driven press and social media. But throwing around sly comments about someone’s sexuality while defending someone else against bigoted behavior isn’t a good look either imo.

    • Lorelei says:

I wouldn’t go as far as to say I like him, but he definitely seems like the least awful of the Queen’s sons. But that’s a subterranean bar, so.

ETA: @CourtneyB I was thinking the same thing about the internet…Edward has definitely suffered some homophobic bs, but it’s just not comparable to today, when everything is 24/7 and every single person in the world has a platform online to spew their hatred. It’s absolutely UNRELENTING.

I still feel sorry for him, but in no way is it anything like what Meghan has had to endure.

      • Slippers4 life says:

Yes, I agree with this. They just refuse to even, for a second, acknowledge the racism experienced by Meghan and continue to justify her experiences by saying “…but it happened to me too”. Homophobia is disgusting, but as a gay person, I condemn racism in no uncertain terms. I don’t use the Homophobia I’ve experienced to justify the racism others experience and that is what this feels like.

    • goofpuff says:

Being civil and decent at the Commonwealth ceremony is the bare minimum of just good manners. His interview with the “Oprah who” killed that good will. He and his wife were rude and fascist and classist. He gets no pass from me.

  11. Cecilia says:

So kate and william are apparently getting shipped of to Scotland and all of a sudden edward and sophie are all over the media. Hhhmmm….

    • taris says:

this has to be the 3rd or 4th attempt at a wessex rebrand in just the past year alone.
like, give it a rest already. it’s not gonna happen, okay? okay.

  12. Jen says:

“and just working rather too hard.”

No one in that family works hard. Come on now.

  13. Mika says:

Ugh. Why do these white (and in this case, male) royals keep saying “they’ve all been there” with regards to the press? NO ONE HAS WRITTEN RACIST SHIT ABOUT YOU. YOU HAVEN’T BEEN THERE.

  14. Dropbear says:

Wow, what a way to dismiss, downplay, gaslight and normalise the racial and misogynistic abuse H and especially M copped and are still being subjected to. Reading some of the comments so far, I don’t understand how people are seemingly giving Edward a pass, just because he was evidently the only polite one at H&M’s last CW service. His attitude and comments from the two recent interviews are straight out of narcissistic handbook. Compared to PC, PWT and his Ford Fiesta wife, Edward is the same – same shit, just a different bucket.

  15. S808 says:

“ The British royals are desperate to remain on the good side of American diplomacy, American trade, American consumers and American tourism. Again, they want to talk to American outlets about how Britain and the US have cultural links and a shared history, all while they feed their domestic press a litany of anti-American stories about Meghan and Harry.”

    Exactly. Leave us alone.

  16. Amelie says:

I mean, I didn’t expect Edward to go into depth about Meghan and Harry on CNN. It was always going to be a vague sympathy and a comment about how family dynamics are always complicated. He’s there to be a symbolic link between US and UK relations, not as a tell all about family drama. Nobody cares about him and most Americans wouldn’t know his name.

  17. Sof says:

I read the excerpts as him trying to remain neutral, which is not possible in this situation. Or situations, really, he managed to reduce both Meghan’s and Diana’s sufferings as “excessive intrusion and attention”.
Not related: I just saw pictures of him in his twenties, he looked like a completely different person!

    • Lucky Charm says:

He was actually pretty good looking back then, definitely the most attractive one of the bunch.

      • Becks1 says:

It’s kind of weird what happens to the Windsor men. Andrew was handsome back in the day, and I think Edward was much better looking than him – and now……eek. It’s so weird to me bc Philip aged really well in my opinion. Like Prince Philip 30 years ago looked so much better than Edward looks now.

      • Merricat says:

Becks, agreed. It’s like they’re attractive during prime breeding years and then it just evaporates.

  18. Cws says:

Eddie is purposely minimizing the facts. It sounds like he got feedback on how he came across in avoiding the Oprah interview.
Neither Eddie nor the Sophster have “been there”.
What a way to minimize how the palaces have treated the duchess. She wasn’t allowed to defend herself from the stories the palaces spread about her. In the past, Harry had suffered something similar but not to the same extent.
Additionally, Eddie has his inbreeding to thank for never suffering from racial abuse.

  19. Alexandria says:

Has the press attacked their children yet? Compared them to a monkey? Anybody wanted to stab Sophie in her stomach? Anybody accused Edward of betraying his race? Accused them of making Kate cry? How about treachery? Did the press insist they give up their HRH, Edwards’s honorary titles and their house after the Sophie tapes? Has the head clown attacked them everytime he opens his mouth? Does Sophie eat avacado? The press needs to know. How about her bouquet? Did her bouquet threaten the flower girls at her wedding? Did the press insist they present their children? Have they been pushed under the bus to prop up saviours William and Kate? Have their children been pushed under the bus yet? Has the press accused them of stealing their son’s name from George? Any PR and TV production professionals accused Edward and Sophie of taking up their space back then?

    • Amelie says:

Well I don’t know how attacked Louise was, but she had eye issues as a kid where one of her eyes turned inward and she had to have two surgeries to correct it. You can’t tell now but it was very obvious when she was a bridesmaid at Kate and William’s wedding. I vaguely remember the press being not so nice about it. It doesn’t compare to the racist attacks against Meghan and her children but Lady Louise was for awhile subject to scrutiny due to the appearance of her eyes. She may not remember it because she was so young and Edward and Sophie have shielded their kids from the press a great deal but the eye thing stuck out to me.

    • notasugarhere says:

Louise and her eye, James being ‘hidden and likely autistic’, are common themes on the Fail and in certain royal hate forums.

    • Christine says:

      +1

  20. Nyro says:

The older William gets the more he looks like his ol’ Uncle Eddie. Anyway, Toy Soldier needs to keep Megan’s name out of his mouth. What gaslighting passive aggressive nonsense.

  21. MissMarirose says:

Wasn’t he supposed to become the Duke of Edinburgh after his father died? Is that not happening now and he’s just not going to be a Duke like his brothers and nephews?

    • Lucy says:

I think he’s supposed to get that title when Charles becomes King? I feel like I saw that recently. Andrew was actually supposed to get the Duke of Edinburgh title, but now it will go to Edward. I don’t know why it’s contingent on Charles being on the throne, I would’ve thought they just filled a vacancy, but I can follow barely any logic with titles. I don’t understand how they work as far as names, precedence, etc.

    • Courtney B says:

Charles inherited the dukedom as the eldest son. When he becomes king, it’ll revert to the crown. Then new letters patent will be issued making a new creation (3rd) of the Dukedom.

    • Lucky Charm says:

I thought that too, but recently read somewhere it automatically goes to the oldest heir (Charles in this case), and then when he becomes King it reverts back to the crown and he will bestow it on Edward then.

  22. L84Tea says:

My likability of Edward is hanging on by a thread. Sophie can go take a long walk off a short pier.

  23. RoyalBlue says:

This is the embiggening of Edward as I spy a dukedom is coming his way.

And no Eddie, you have not been there:

was your wife told, it’s best she keep working as there was no money to support her? No, in fact after working and effing it up she promptly became a dependent on other peoples’ money to survive.

Did you and your wife have suicidal ideations? No? well then you have not been there.

Have you and your wife experienced a relentless years-long public campaign of hate and vindictiveness coming from both within and without the household? I thought not.

Now run along and go ride your horses with Andy or do whatever it is you do during the day.

    • notasugarhere says:

A Dukedom has always been coming his way, that was the plan from the day of their marriage. He chose the Earl of Wessex from the movie Shakespeare in Love, with the understanding that’d he’d be name Duke of Edinburgh when Charles is king.

  24. Sofia says:

I wasn’t expecting him to say “yes the abuse Meghan got was racist, sexist, classist and xenophobic. PS: fuck the media”. I know I’m exaggerating but my point is that I wasn’t expecting him to say much about the abuse.

And for what it’s worth, this response is miles better than the one given to Tominey. Either someone in the palace told him to because they saw his previous comments didn’t go down well or saying Oprah who will not “work” in the US or he’s just smart enough to give a better response, I don’t know.

  25. Lorelei says:

I find it so funny that this interview was ostensibly about Edward’s “work” but he’s ended up being asked about the family, particularly the Sussexes, because that’s all anyone cares about. Most Americans have no clue who Edward even is. And we most definitely wouldn’t even be discussing this here if the Sussexes hadn’t come up.

It’s so grating to me that all of a sudden these two seem to be everywhere. We hear about Edward and Sophie at least once a week now, when in the past, it was *maybe* once a year. When will the palace get the message that they’re just not popular enough to sustain this press coverage? Would anyone have even noticed or talked about their Telegraph interview if it wasn’t for the fact that 1) the Sussexes were mentioned and 2) they gave snarky responses?

They need to stop trying to force the Wessexes on the public and accept that they simply aren’t as magnificent as the palace would like us to believe.

  26. Rnot says:

Choosing strained relations with the EU and the USA simultaneously is a bold choice for Britain. China is discovering that their wolf-warrior diplomacy has done significant long-term damage to their international brand. The Brits are just starting to discover that unrepentant racism and xenophobia doesn’t inspire a desire for closer ties. I used to be a major anglophile but lately I’m choosing to avoid British goods and media. Why spend money on a brand that hates America and Americans? Why maintain a “special relationship” if the other side behaves this way?

These interviews confirm so much of what the Sussexes said on Oprah. After the interview, William spoke on camera, we had daily palace briefings on their response to it, ridiculous photo ops with black people & people like Sophie & Edward (and Anne) have done some interviews. The royal family are worried about their image clearly. So why was it no comment/ no complain no explain when Meghan was being hammered daily in the press? Where were the quotes about them being a family then when press was saying she was a degree wife& you can’t mention her & Harry in the queens presence ? Clearly the family can be pro active about press & can express well wishes when they want to so where was the support for the Sussexes?

And then Meghan said there’s difference between rude & racist & how they were told everyone has had to endure bad press- just deal. Edward’s comments- saying they have all been there & putting what Meghan has endured as about press intrusion etc echoes this point from the Oprah interview. Just totally overlooking the racism, xenophobia @ targeted harassment.

It’s funny to see royals go on about the friendship with America given that people like Camilla Tominey claimed Meghan’s difficulties with palace staff were because they were anti American.

  28. Serena says:

“we’ve all had excessive intrusion and attention in our lives”, why don’t you tell tha that to Diana..oh wait.

They never learn anything. They want ties with America? Guess who would have been great for that?

The purpose of these interviews is definitely about embiggening Edward to take over the dukedom in a few years. Also as a Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh Award International Foundation, he’s drumming up for money. The Foundation operates worldwide – including the US and Canada – and launched a multi-million dollar “Founders Campaign”, using PP’s 100th birthday as an opportunity to fundraise.

I’ve met Prince Edward (and more importantly his dogs) and I think he’s a nice, hardworking man and he’s suddenly trying to take over his father’s legacy, but two issues: 1) of course he’s not going to get into the H&M stuff so he tried to be as non-offensive as possible but actually minimized H&M’s pain and the racism and xenophobia directed at M, which is bad; and 2) Sophie’s mean girling is noted by the internet at large and reflects poorly on him as a result.

Always interesting to get the perspective of someone who has met the person we are all gossiping about. From afar, if I ever considered him at all, Edward always struck me as kind of blandly hardworking, but ultimately sort of in awe and overwhelmed by his responsibilities.

It will be interesting to see how his statements about H and M (or lack thereof) help or hurt his ability to fundraise for the Duke of Edinburgh foundation. Starting off your big push by publically mocking Oprah is…a choice. Maybe every branch of the family should just put a crisis manager or two on retainer?

I don’t know why its so hard to just say “I don’t feel qualified to speak on this subject.” or “No comment.” I give him no passes after that interview where he and his wife acted so rudely.

I’ve (as a POC) worked with plenty of nice (to your face) white hardworking men who come with white privilege and racism. He seems like one of them. Really nice to your face at the commonwealth ceremony, but behind your back, snickering and causing trouble.

I think he had hoped to do what H&S did, if I remember he tried. I think they have been more successful because they completely left and went to a different country, M there with H to do it. IMO half in/ out would have hampered H&M. They are relatively free now and it looks like they are enjoying it.

    • notasugarhere says:

It isn’t that he hoped to do what they did. Edward and Sophie were never supposed to be working royals. They were supposed to earn a living and fade away. His business tanked, hers tanked amid gossip scandals and 1.2 million in debt. They were made working royals *because they couldn’t make it* outside the royal bubble.

    Boring people

  32. MA says:

WE’VE ALL BEEN THERE? How tone deaf and ignorant can they be?

I can’t with this racist, mediocre, dim family. Let’s face it, I can think of a single British royal who without their luck of being born “royal” would be anyone of significance in any field, let alone famous for something. Find me just one outside of the Sussexes who has ever displayed extraordinary intelligence, skill, talent, anything. Maybe Zara and Anne with their horse riding.

They should be thanking their lucky stars that Meghan made them famous. I bet most Brits even couldn’t pick the Wessexes out of a lineup.

  33. Amelia says:

Rude and Racist are not the same, Edward!! Meghan said it best
I had such high hopes for you after commonwealth day last year, you’ve disappointed me

  34. lucylee says:

Edward and Sophie represent lives of little value other than being”royal.” Both of them had failed careers. I cannot imagine having to still be dependent upon your 95 yo mother for an allowance. After she is gone, having to please a quirky older brother and finally a power-thirsty nephew for money to support your family. That family has children only to serve as back-ups and decoys for the monarch and the heir. At least they seem to be trying to rear their children to be self-supporting w/o titles. In a few years, their children may end up being decoys for George. Zara’s children may be the exception because the men who marry into that family don’t give up everything the same as the women who come in(Meghan is the exception) and seem to retain some autonomy.

  35. Slippers4 life says:

I wonder if, now that Edward and Sophie are going to be “senior members of of BRF”, and take on “senior level risk”, when Charles becomes King if their children will be granted security. Because that was a major worry of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they were put in a position to do a SENIOR level job with SENIOR level risk, but that their children would not receive senior level security like the other senior members. Rather their children would receive none while having significant risk to their lives. So they said, ok then, we will step down from senior roles because we aren’t accepting senior level risk for our child with no security and then the BRF said “no! You’re in or you’re out” and then they chose “out” and now now palaces cant stop being pissed. When Charles becomes King, if Edward and Sophie are “Senior” level royals with “senior” level risk and their children DO get security, the question is, why not for Meghan and Harry’s child when they held that position?

  36. Tessa says:

These two are so smarmy. How come questions were not asked about Andrew?

  37. starryfish29 says:

Their ‘best’ and most diplomatic response is to give a quote that word for word confirms exactly what Harry said about his family’s dismissive attitude. Not even crisis managers can save this idiot family.

  38. Likeyoucare says:

Whu do they need to associate M&H in every interviews and claimed they had it worst?
Silly, codlled racist always stick together.
Dont they have any dignity left.

  39. Calibration says:

Back in the day, 30 plus years ago, everyone assumed Eddy was gay. His wife’s biz partner basically confirmed it. As did others. That ‘gossip’ didn’t last long and the palace protected him. Their relationship has always been thought of as a convenience and it works. Nothing wrong with that. But he doesn’t know what Meghan went through, that’s insulting

  40. Tessa says:

Of course the Palace would not complain about their commenting about Harry and Meghan but of course they would if Andrew’s name had been invoked.
