If Vera is vaccinated I guess there shouldn’t be an issue but did she not know the rules when she entered Canada?

    • JRT says:

Just another self-entitled American that wants Canadian Policy to be changed for them. If you don’t like it than you shouldn’t have taken the job and stayed in the US to be with you family.

      • GrnieWnie says:

that was my reaction and I don’t get why she would think anything else. Canadian policy has been the same forever. So…why come if you don’t like it? Plus 8 weeks ago, Toronto was mid-third wave/lockdown. She decided to come then, and she’s surprised about restrictions? Give me a break.

      • Vavavoom says:

THIS. And the ‘contributing to your economy’ thing is rich.

      • JRT says:

@Vavavoom Right!? That’s rich when we review the many trade policies and huge trade tariffs that America has put on Canadian goods which has significantly affected Canada negatively in the past 5 years! OMFG, you’re spending money in Toronto….perhaps Vera should get an Order of Canada for all her work contributing to our country!!! (sarcastic pfft)

      • atorontogal says:

@ JRT we should nominate her for Governor General!

      • ME says:

        @ JRT

This seems to be a common theme among many (not all) Americans. For them, the pandemic is “over” (or so they think) and therefore the rest of the world should deem it over and bend to the needs of Americans. How dare you have rules I don’t like ! Also, it’s hilarious she tagged Doug Ford !

      • Vavavoom says:

        YES YES and YES!
And the Doug Ford tag is hilarious, He’s probably loving it and bringing her some timbits to the work site right now.

      • JRT says:

@atorontogal Hahaha, perfect job for this American Karen!
@Me 100% fact! Americans (not all of them) bullying the world into submission of their ideology. Lol, that’s hilarious she tagged Doug Ford…..Vera must be a republican!
@Vavavoom Hahaha, Dougie will probably give Vera the key to Toronto along with the box of Timbits!!!

    • Still_Sarah says:

Even if she is vaccinated, it’s possible she could get infected with a variant of COVID-19. I don’t know what she’s being so whiny about. She knew the rules when she came into Canada but now she doesn’t want to follow them because it’s hard? I haven’t seen my brother since last summer because of the restrictions.

      • Gaah says:

I know someone who was double vaxx and got COVID last week in a hospital. They are fine but the Delta variant is a game changer and people need to take it seriously even if they are double vaxx

    • Kristen says:

Yeah she had to have known the rules going in. Also she’s there temporarily and making a huge amount of money. So this is a bit much.

  2. badrockandroll says:

Vera is the new Karen – what compelled her to leave her family and make another crappy horror movie in a foreign country during a pandemic I wonder? The quarantine rule started in March 2020 – did she not know about it when she started her film? Besides, since the USA/Canada border will re-open on 4 July, she does not need to tag the leaders of TWO nations, which surely tops asking for the manager! I am sure that the PM and #46 have better things to do. She wants to work and vacation, and since I have been unable to do either for over a year, I really take issue with her self-entitlement.

    • deezee says:

Border is still closed until at least July 21. Rule changes coming into effect at the beginning of July apply to Canadian and permanent residents of which she is not.

      • Drea says:

She’s got a work visa though, obviously. They are allowed to travel back and forth, you just have to comply with all the quarantine requirements. And to @ the Prime Minister and senators? It just screams “do you even know WHO I am?!”

Governments don’t regulate their safety based on entitled actors tantrums.

    • lucky says:

right? If you choose to travel internationally during a global pandemic, then maybe don’t complain when your plans are delayed?

  3. Drea says:

Look, I get it, Vera. I have a friend who currently sees her husband once every 6 months, bc we’re regular folk with limited vacation time. But you ARE able to travel back and forth, you just have to follow that country’s rules. Which include a quarantine.

    • GrnieWnie says:

sounds like she wants to be able to travel without quarantining. Wah.

      • Drea says:

Exactly. She’s being wildly dramatic and entitled to say she can’t leave and is being held hostage.

    • Truthiness says:

The quarantine is rotten but do you know what is much worse? Dying. Becoming a long hauler. Individual people don’t get to renegotiate an entire country’s pandemic rules and witnessing the loosey goosey infectious mess in the US and other countries is reason enough for the quarantine.

  4. questions says:

Is she actually trapped? Why wouldn’t she be able to leave? I can understand difficulty getting in, but why would she have difficulty getting out?

    • Drea says:

She is not trapped. She is equating herself as an essential worker (an actor), and she can leave. She just would have to follow the rules that apply to everyone which include a quarantine upon entry. She likely knew the requirements when she took this job, if not, she’s not just privileged, but a privileged idiot.

      • questions says:

Thanks for the reply. I’m so confused by what she was talking about.

She could have turned down the job, but maybe that’s too logical.

      • schmootc says:

I don’t feel sorry for her at all then. Suck it up, thems the rules, lady.

    • Kviby says:

I think if she goes out, when she comes back the quarantine rule will effect her going back work.

Since both places are doing well with the covid issue it does seem overboard

      • questions says:

        Thanks for the explanation!

      • GrnieWnie says:

yet it was only several weeks ago that Canada was NOT doing well at all, mid-third (or fourth) wave. We all learned that things can change on a dime. So, nobody wants a repeat.

    • milliemollie says:

I think she’s still working and would have to come back to Canada to continue shooting. She can leave and re-enter Canada, she would just have to quarantine for 14 days…It’s not like they’re holding her hostage in Canada

  5. FRED says:

Yeah this is annoying. She is not “trapped” and can return to the US at any point. But, she has to follow Canadian laws if she wants to travel to Canada. Many of us have had to sacrifice with the border closed this past year and an actress annoyed that she can’t jet around freely is eye roll worthy.

  6. Well Wisher says:

If the rules set by a democratic society is considered hostile, why go there? It is unfortunate that your needs supersedes our need to get beyond the pandemic, I respectfully suggest that you had the option to not accept the offer. PMJT does not work for Vera.

  7. Mina_Nur says:

Trudeau is trying to protect all Canadians, whilst this entitled woman is only thinking about her own selfish needs. As if allowing cross-border travel is a simple matter. Literally every country in the world is trying to figure it out. Israel has the highest vaccination rate in the world, but they still have major travel restrictions in place, including 10 day (if vaccinated) and 14 day (if not) quarantine for incoming travellers.

  8. SpankyB says:

I hadn’t realized J-Lo was in the KISS Army.

  9. questions says:

She’s a decent actress. Had no idea her personality was so annoying.

  10. OriginalLala says:

Ugh she is not trapped. We have rules to protect the health and safety of our country. If she didn’t like them she didn’t have to come work here. Shut up Karen.

  11. Willow says:

Welcome to the lives of millions of working parents who have jobs that require them to be away from their families for months at a time. It sucks. You miss them. Nothing wrong with sharing that pain. But don’t be selfish and ask for an exception that could put other people’s lives in danger.

    • Vavavoom says:

Ugh I wish more people would tell her this on her post. It’s all WE LOVE YOU and you poor thing, your family needs you etc. I want a first responder in Toronto who hasn’t seen their family in months and is saving lives every day to chime in. Sheesh.

  12. Chaine says:

ugh, she’s so whiny and entitled. I have Canadian friends living in the U.S. who haven’t been able to go back to see their parents for a year because they’ve not got enough vacation time to encompass the quarantine and still visit family. Guess what, instead of putting every politician on social media on blast, they understand vaccination rate in Canada is very low and everyone still needs to be careful!

    • Hilbug says:

I’m happy to report vaccination rate is actually pretty decent in Canada now – over 67% of total pop have had at least one dose (or 73% of those over 12 years old) and almost 13% are fully vaxxed (or 15% of those over 12 years old). I think the concern is that the vaccines are not as effective against the delta variant with just the first dose and Canada has been focusing on delivering as many first doses as possible as a strategy. Now second doses are really ramping up! I just got mine WOOT. So ya, I 100% agree with you, everyone needs to be careful. Also, Vera is not a scientist LOL

    • Stelly says:

Exactly. Most Americans who want to be are fully vaccinated already. However, the majority of Canadians have still only received one dose. I live in Quebec , and was just able to move up my appointment for my second dose to early July, 2 months earlier than they had originally told me. So we’re still not there yet. The entitlement and disrespect for the rules we put in place to keep Canadians safe is disappointing. She keeps quoting science, but is she not aware that fully vaccinated people can still get Covid? And from what I understand often have mild to no symptoms. I get missing your family, but check your privilege. So many are struggling far more.

  13. Grey says:

If she is fully vaccinated, she can fly back and forth with no quarantine period after July 5 I think! That is 2 more weeks, really, I hope she can handle it… sarcasm intended.

    • Vavavoom says:

Seriously. And as far as I know you can still get the virus and transmit it to an airplane full of people and then bring it back into the US or Canada whether you’re vaccinated or not.

    • FHMom says:

      No, it’s been extended.

      • Grey says:

Thank you! I missed the quarantine part being extended. Sometimes Covid news is trying to drink water from a fire hose.

  14. Chana says:

Hate how flexible the definition of “essential worker” is. Spoke to someone recently who had been working from home but still thought they were an essential worker. It’s such a loose definition that basically all jobs are essential – we all need an income, right?

I think the 14 day travel restriction is in response to the delta variant which is more than fair, I know a double vaxxed person who has it right now. Everyone is so used to being nothing less than 100% comfortable all the time, not surprised she thinks Trudeau is personally trying to destroy her family or whatever.

    • ME says:

The thing is, I am sure this woman has enough money where she could have sat home the entire pandemic, not work and spend every waking moment with her family. She chose to work in another country. Rules are rules honey. You ain’t special.

Also, I am hearing more and more stories of fully vaxxed people getting Covid. This Delta variant is no joke and there is now an even worse variant called Delta Plus. One good thing is vaccines seem to prevent death, which is the ultimate goal. This whole thing seems like a never ending nightmare. I don’t know how people are so quick to want to go back to “normal”. We are far from that.

    • Arpeggi says:

I’ve had to write more than my share of quarantine exemption letters in the past year, including 2 in the past month to have engineers coming from the US to Canada to install scientific instruments, including some in a level 3 lab that is needed for covid research: those will be considered essential workers. They need to come in, do their job (without interacting much with anyone else) and go back home. Same goes for health workers or truck drivers that need to go back and forth to bring goods across the border. It hasn’t been simple or breezy for any of these actual essential workers.

An actress has to interact with a bunch of people on set, including some that might not have been fully vaccinated yet (or even partially): it’s understandable that given the overall low proportion that is fully immunized on each side of the border, there needs to be some restrictions in place. We made exception for the NHL playoffs and surprise! The Habs coach tested + and so did the Golden Knights GM. 14 days for fully vaxxed ppl might be a tad much, but quarantine until you have a neg PCR result? That’d seem reasonable. If that’s still impossible with the filming schedule, then it sucks but it is what it is, staff safety comes 1st.

  15. Eenie Googles says:

Sure Vera, we will make an exception to national policy because you don’t feel like following the rules and were in that airplane movie people liked a decade ago. Legit logic. You’re so special.

  16. Charfromdarock says:

She chose to take a job in a foreign country in the middle of a pandemic.

If she wanted to be with her family, she should have made a different decision.

Tagging the leaders of two nations because your whiny privileged a$$ doesn’t get its own way is a best tone deaf to the suffering caused by covid in both nations and around the world.

  17. CanadianK says:

Perhaps they should have hired a Canadian actress that is living in Canada for the movie? Lots of great Canadian talent that would have been happy to have the role.

  18. Anne Call says:

The Bieber family outfits to meet the Macron’s was all I was really interested in discussing today. As Jezebel commentator said, he looks like he’s delivering coke to the PM and she looks like a Kardashian adjacent mess. Embarrassing.

  19. TeamMeg says:

My son lives in Canada, a short 5 hour drive away. I haven’t seen him since Dec. 2019. #CovidSucks

    • lucy2 says:

I’m sorry, that has to be so hard! I think there are many people in your situation, sadly.
That’s what makes Vera’s complaints so obnoxious, IMO. She chose to take a job there, and while 8 weeks is tough, it’s not the 18 months many others have had to do. Very poor look for Vera.

  20. Cava24 says:

She wouldn’t present a greater risk on re-entry than a vaccinated Canadian citizen traveling from the US would, in theory, it’s just that she’s essentially a guest to begin with and people shouldn’t have to undertake more risk for her so she can make a film. Does Canada have a system for confirming vaccination status? Seems like that might be an issue here, too. Relying on the honor system when you are dealing with Americans (I am American) is dicey at best.

  21. JillyBeann says:

What is she talking about? She can leave…. As a Canadian, I know lots of Canadians who have gone down to the US.. dumb ass celebrities

  22. Megan Morrison says:

Dear Celebitchy, there’s an over the top scene in the first episode of Evil, kind of like a night terror, that was too much for me and I turned it off. But, I was lured back, made it through, and ended up LOVING the show. So, cover your eyes or squeeze a hand, push through, you’ll be fine!

  23. Charfromdarock says:

Trudeau is in quarantine himself since he returned home from the G7.

    • Anners says:

Dang it! I clicked on the link and hate myself every time I think he looks handsome. But his covid hair/beard is really working for me. May even help me to forget “speaking moistly”…but alas, not SNC-Lavalin. Sigh.

  24. Izzy says:

Girl, SHUT UP. I haven’t seen my mom since February 2020. Entitled aholes like you don’t help.

    • Turtledove says:

This. My mom passed in May. I didn’t see her while she was healthy for a year due to Covid. I DID get to see her before she passed and for that I AM grateful, but all the “seeing” was caring for her while she was dying. This entitled little princess can take a seat.

  25. Shannon says:

Oh yes, Evil will scare you. It scared me in a lingering way, where you’re like a little kid again and are afraid to go to sleep at night – and I’m not even religious! I guess I’m going to have to get Paramount + now because I really need to see season 2.

Side note: the main character’s daughters are constantly talking all over each other and giggling and it reminded me so much of the happy chaos of my childhood home that I found it endearing. My husband found it annoying. We had totally different childhoods apparently

  26. Slippers4 life says:

So arrogant. “I’m contributing to your economy which gives me the right to publically demand to every politician trying to manage this pandemic that I don’t have to follow an entire country’s rules put in place by medical experts for the reason that Canada is in a very different place than the US with COVID and it was just a couple of weeks ago Ontario ICUs were completely filled and hospitals were days away from needing to decide who gets life saving measures and who they have to just let die. Who cares that Canadians don’t want a 4th wave and are finally seeing the light and are desperately trying to get themselves ahead of the virus with the vaccines that finally came? I’m vaccinated, you guys and, and I won’t get sick and die even though I could still spread it, that doesn’t matter. Killing people and setting Canada back is a small price to pay for how much I contribute to its economy eating timbits and getting to water my own cabbages and see MY family, even though so many people who live on the Canada/US border have been suffering for more than a year. I am special. I was in the Departed. “

  27. Deanne says:

Entitled much? There are people who haven’t been able to see dying family because of the rules, which are in place to keep Canadians safe. She’s not special and as her “contributing to our economy”. comment is a complete joke.

  28. Vic says:

I am a Canadian living in Toronto. My home province of Nova Scotia where all my family lives has closed their provincial border to people coming from the rest of Canada (except two provinces). There is literally no legal way for me to return to see my family even if I was willing to quarantine. I am an only child, and haven’t seen my Mum since December 2019. Vera needs to STFU because there are many other people in much worse situations and she is not as special as she believes. I know I am privileged that I have my partner, still have my job, and neither I, nor any of my family members have gotten Covid, but it has been incredibly hard on my mental health being separated from an important part of my support system, and seeing so many self-centred people makes it even worse. Read the room, Vera.

  29. Garrard says:

I dunno, I know she’s rich and stuff, but everyone is fighting a battle. I know if I was away for my kids for 6 weeks I wouldn’t be complaining… 😉

  30. Sammiches says:

My god, the americans who have come up here throughout the last year and a half have been absolutely ridiculous.
GO, vera. No one is stopping you from leaving canada. Feel free to stay gone as well.
