Back in May, we learned the news of John Mulaney’s new girlfriend. It was shocking on a lot of levels. Mulaney had struggled during the pandemic, and it sounds like he relapsed at some point. He sought in-patient treatment at a rehab facility over the Christmas holiday and everyone wished him well and wished his wife, Anna Marie Tendler, well too. Then as soon as Mulaney got out of rehab, he filed for divorce from Anna Marie and seemingly took up with a new girlfriend: Olivia Munn. Days after we found out about that in May, we also learned that Anna Marie had sought treatment too. In the weeks that followed, I was a bit curious to see if we would see Mulaney and his new GF step out and pap stroll, or if there would be some obvious leaks to People Magazine, TMZ, etc. It went quiet for about six weeks. And now this: People Mag got exclusive photos (almost looking like a photo set-up, if we’re being honest) of Mulaney out to lunch in LA with his girlfriend.
John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are going strong. The star couple enjoyed a low-key, laughed-filled lunch date together Saturday afternoon at Rick’s Drive In & Out in Los Angeles. Kicking back at an outdoor table under sunny skies, Mulaney, 38, and Munn, 40, were all smiles as they chatted over their meal.
“They were having a great time during lunch, laughing and talking,” an insider tells PEOPLE. “They were really enjoying each other’s company.”
The couple, whose budding relationship was first reported by PEOPLE last month, are enjoying the early days of summer.
“This is very new, they’re taking it slowly,” a source close to Mulaney told PEOPLE in early May.
The celebrity duo first connected socially several years ago and remained friendly. In December, the actress sent the comedian well wishes after Mulaney entered rehab followed a sobriety relapse.
“Sending SO MUCH love and support to John Mulaney. You got this,” she tweeted at the time.
Since completing a successful 60-day rehab stay in February, Mulaney has returned to the stage for well-received stand-up shows, titled “From Scratch”. The comedian, whose split from ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler was announced on May 10, is currently in L.A. for a run of sold out shows at the Troubadour. Mulaney will head to Boston later this summer to continue the “From Scratch” tour.
I had a theory that she was the one forcing the disclosure of their relationship and maybe Mulaney was kind of put-off by it. But looking at the People-exclusive photos… he seems fine. He seems into it. He went along with this photoshoot for People Magazine, so it must be serious. I feel so bad for Anna Marie, and I honestly feel like this is not what he should be doing right after a relapse, but we’ll see how it turns out.

He’s riding that post rehab honeymoon wave coupled with new relationship honeymoon wave. That doesn’t work for long term sobriety.
And his soon to be ex wife has to see this broadcasted because it’s olivia’s MO for PR.
Yeah, I don’t follow Olivia Munn’s career at all, but I do follow this blog. And it seems like Olivia has been situated right in the center of several stories to which my reaction has been “ick.” I’m not putting Mulaney’s behavior on her because these are his decisions, but she seems to be all in when questionable decisions are being made. It’s just an odd way to situate oneself.

It’s funny to me that Olivia is looking very glamorous and wearing lots of makeup, while John (who is very handsome) looks unshaven.
Isn’t it usually the case though? Women make the effort, men roll out of bed. Look at JLo/Affleck. The pics we got over the weekend: she’s all dolled up, dressed nicely… he is unshaven and looked like an unmade bed that smelled like stale cigs and booze.
Right? Many women are all dolled up and the guys are schlubby looking and nobody comments on the women. I don’t get why people don’t like Olivia Munn. I think she is cute. Mulaney and Munn look cute together. I do sort of feel badly for Mulaney’s wife (since she didn’t want a divorce) but from what I’ve read, they had some issues for a while in addition to his addiction. I hope she can move on and get a guy who isn’t as troubled as Mulaney.

Yeah, this reeks of tipping off the paps. He gains little from this to be honest, but she’s the sort who is always angling for attention, trying to make ‘IT’ happen for her career. Poor thing. If you’re known more for your pap-thirsty dating than your work, then ‘IT’ will never happen.
You know, if he met her NOW…or even when he got out of rehab, it’d be fast, but ok…fine. But KNOWING she’s stalked him for the last 6 yrs, even when she KNEW he was (first) engaged, and then when he was married… Nope. Yes, HE took/broke the vows, but IMO, she’s garbage for pursuing him. And he’s the garbage landfill for encouraging her.
Guess they both do deserve each other.
Heck even if they timed the rollout better. Going from I’m out of rehab, I’m doing a pop up tour, I’m getting divorced, I’m in a new relationship in the span of a month (the last 3 in less than a week) sends up all kinds of red flags. And that’s outside of munn and her stalking.
From the leaked “reviews” I’ve read about his latest stand up, it sounds like he was struggling since BEFORE the pandemic. His “Big Mouth” co-stars had to stage an intervention, and he didn’t even want to take the rehab seriously at first.
His wife stood by him through all that and he repays her by dumping her for Munn. And she’s not fine about it AT ALL if you follow her Instagram page.
Just gross all around.

I just checked her Insta page. You can see her pain in the utterly heartbreaking photos. The loss is palpable and, frankly, some of them broke my heart. Her vulnerability in her art is sadly beautiful. Wow.
I hope she was able to keep the dog.
Yikes. I hate to conjecture about stuff like this, but it almost makes it sound like he doesn’t really want to get clean and thought his wife would hold him accountable.
That’s what I think, Tealily. He wasn’t ready to go to rehab: He is enjoying his success and the range of available drugs. He hasn’t hit rock bottom yet, but it looks like he is on the downward slope if his coworkers are staging interventions.
He is an addict in the public eye, and that is hard. You are in and out of control and everybody sees it. I hope he makes it, but what I see is the addiction cycle so many of us have watched or have experienced, like Charlie Sheen. He was really successful for a long time, and he had a “party boy” persona that allowed him to hide his addiction from the general public for a long while. He made it out: broke, but alive. I haven’t been addicted that way, but I’ve watched people I admire spin into the cycle. People die all the time.
This all just makes me sad.
I kind of feel like this makes a ton of sense. After I got out of rehab I really, really didn’t want to stay sober. I considered breaking up with my partner who is wonderful and supportive, but also would hold me to accountable to stop drinking. I was like wow, my addiction is this crazy that I would rather be alone and drinking than with a supportive person and have a healthier lifestyle.
I’m sorry you went through that, Ellie. This stuff is really tough. I’ve been through similar with people I love. I hope you’ve been able to hang in there.

I think Kaiser does it on purpose, because there have been a few things to rag on Olivia about over the years as some on here have mentioned. Check out her crazy-ass statement against the Fug Girls from a few years ago as well as another strange one from a while back “explaining” why her face looked so different. I can’t bother to look her up right now but I know I’m missing some other things about her over the years.
Yeah, like @Green Desert says, she clearly follows her publicity and isn’t shy about going after the bloggers if she doesn’t like what they have to say.

This is so bizarre. More than any other celeb story right now, I am most curious about this one. John Mulaney really cultivated a persona over years of a guy who had struggled in the past, but was pretty committed to his sobriety and his marriage. Lots of married comedians mention spouses but John really, really made his wife a part of his act, and mentioned her all the time in interviews. And it never seemed like he did so because she demanded the attention. He seemed to genuinely like his wife and his life. Now, that can be true and one can still struggle with addiction, but it’s just all so odd. I wonder if his star rose so quick, he got propositioned a lot by beautiful women, and suddenly being married didn’t seem as palatable as it once was. Something similar happened to my cousin: she was with her ex-husband for forever, they married his last year of medical school, he matched into a plastic surgery residency (super, SUPER competitive), thought his sh*t didn’t stink, and cheated on her. Didn’t matter that my cousin is gorgeous and he is not so good looking. He suddenly started getting more attention and didn’t want to be married.
I don’t know if it’s just me but finding out his new girlfriend was Olivia Munn was kind of gross feeling. I guess she has a type in chasing/hooking up with high profile guys but idk maybe it’s his recent turmoil that just makes it feel weird.
Anyone else think that People had some photos of them early on, before the divorce announcement, that People agreed to bury in exchange for exclusive shots like these in the future? It just seemed so odd to announce they were dating RiGHT after the divorce announcement. Did they do that in case the story or photos broke? It all seems very odd.

Olivia Munn is such a pick-me. I tried so hard to give her the benefit of the doubt but she’s consistently proven herself to try and be “not like other girls” because I think she’s deeply insecure. Which is crazy, before all her surgeries she was stunning. I don’t see this lasting long tbh. As someone in recovery, it seems a little fast to be in another relationship this quickly after rehab.
I know. I only really know her from the gossip columns. In the beginning I thought it seemed like everyone was being a little hard on her, but I get it now. Yeesh.

I mean, that was funny. I don’t have anything against her as others here do, but I do remember that and it was hilarious. Especially if you happen to eat the same potatoes and fairly often. I mean they are really good for you, but yeah, they don’t do THAT.

Agree. Whole thing is sad for the wife. But, I guess after fucking up Aaron Roger’s relationship with his family, it was time to move on and wreck someone’s marriage. Was a big fan of this guy and now-not so much. I find it especially egregious the wife is defending her dissertation and that’s when these two imbeciles decide to celebrate at In and Out. She sure knows how to pick them- I mean who wouldn’t want to hook up with a guy in rehab? Recently there she was making statements about the Asian hate crimes, to be honest – I did not realize she was Asian at all! There’s a lot of self loathing there.
