Duchess Kate steps out at Wimbledon Day 5, watches a men’s doubles match

Oof, someone needed to remind people that they exist. “Don’t forget about meeeeee,” a certain button-covered duchess cried. The Duchess of Cambridge became the royal patron of Wimbledon and the All-England Club in 2016. There was some gossip that she would become the President of Wimbledon, an honorary position often filled by a royal, but the Duke of Kent is apparently unwilling to give it up. So the Duke of Kent is still president and Kate is the royal patron. Pretty much as soon as she became the royal patron, she basically stopped going to anything other than the finals. Which will always be hilarious to me.

Anyway, Wimbledon has been happening since Monday and it’s been chaotic with all of the rain, scheduling issues and injuries from the wet grass. Kate is a huge fan of Andy Murray and Roger Federer, both of whom have played two matches (each) on Center Court already. Kate didn’t come out for them, although I bet she stays for Andy’s match later on today, or maybe even Dan Evans’ match on Center Court (Evans is having a great year and he’s been playing so well).

She arrived at the All-England Club around noon to watch some matches and highlight some of the work the club has been doing in the past year and a half. Apparently, the AELTC has been providing 200 daily meals for the local community during the pandemic, and she did some prep work in the kitchen today. The trade-off is that she’ll get to spend several hours watching tennis too, I imagine.

She was first seen on one of the outer courts, watching a men’s doubles match (Jamie Murray & his doubles partner Bruno Soares versus Vasek Pospisil and Nick Monroe). Her polka-dotted skirt is by Alessandra Rich, and her bag is Mulberry. She was seated next to retired player Tim Henman on the outer court. The rule about masks at the AELTC is that people need to stay masked up when they’re moving through the club, but once they’re seated at a match, they can remove their masks. Wimbledon is currently at “half capacity” but they will allow more people to come later in the Championships.

She looks WAY more relaxed and happy next to this guy than Wills at the soccer match.
Also, I too wear a blazer when I cook or bake and wear a huge cocktail ring.

    • MadMangoMal says:

I always leave my long hair down too. People should be so lucky to get a meal full of my fake hair.

      • Seraphina says:

@MadMangoMal, My biggest pet peeve is watching cooking shows where the chef has their hair down and loose. I cringe when I see it. I was brought up to ALWAYS pull hair back when cooking. Nothing worse then finding a long strand of hair in your food 😫
And also, when they don’t wash fruit and veggies – YUCK.

      • Ginger says:

This was clearly for a photo op and nothing more. They will probably throw the food out or something ( which is sad)

      • MadMangoMal says:

@Seraphina Right! It is so gross. My Grandma taught us to cook, if we asked to help without first washing our hands and putting our hair up she would pretend she didn’t hear us.

    • Merricat says:

Lol–nothing says “I’m ready for kitchen work!” like long sleeves and jewelry.

    • Calibration says:

But that crazy laugh is not natural.. That guy looks scared

      • Darla says:

He’s clearly laughing with her and in no way looks scared.

      • Calibration says:

Darla I don’t agree.. Scared was exaggerated but he looks uncomfortable and she does not look natural. My view, I don’t care it’s not yours

      • BabsORIG says:

@Darla, its a matter of opinions though. As the saying goes, different strokes for different folks.

      • Merricat says:

He looks attentive to me. This is Kate’s strength, surface chit-chat with men.

      • Seraphina says:

Kate is an attractive woman and (to me) he looks completely at ease and laughing with her. Adding that she is who she is just adds to her allure for men.

      • Lizzie says:

I commented below she revels in attention from men, I also find it cringy.

      • GRUEY says:

He’s a silver fox for sure. Had to google him. British teeth but otherwise a hotty. And yes yes yes my sensibilities are very American in that the yellow snaggle teeth jump out at me

      • Nic919 says:

Tim Henman is a well known English tennis player and was their most successful one in the modern era until Andy Murray. Since he’s English and still involved in tennis and she’s a patron of Wimbledon he’s well aware that you can’t snub the patron. So he’s gonna laugh at what she says even if it isn’t funny.

    • PEARL GREY says:

Kate is always more relaxed when she is around other men (and who wouldn’t be if you were married to a perma-rage monster) and most importantly, not doing any work. With how much we have been told that sports and particularly tennis is Kate’s passion, along with mental health, aahly yaars and “going outside”, it’s a wonder why we never see her using her position as patron to fund mental health sports therapy programmes, outdoor spaces for kids in overdeveloped or underprivileged areas to play tennis, or even host charity tennis matches to raise money. She just pops up for Wimbledon and that seems to be as far as her “passion” will take her. How keen.

      • Purplehazeforever says:

I’m very surprised no one in The Firm hasn’t figured out that Kate night work more if more of her passions, like sports, were worked into charities. Combine mental health with sports like mentioned. Gardening with underprivileged kids, teaching photography ( I know she’s an amateur)…have her do stuff that she likes with the other royal duties. It might increase her work total.

      • Seraphina says:

@Purplehazeforever, I used to think the same as well – like ten years ago when she first entered into this job/marriage. But after 10 years I expect her to focus on issues that may not always be her favorites. She is the FFQC (at least for now she is), demands on her will grow for charity work and not all will be issues or causes that she has interest in. She is no humanitarian, that has been shown to us time and time again. The lack of desire to do some real charity work has left me not being a fan of hers. Putting the fact that she never really held an actual job into this equation makes her lazy too.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Purplehaze
They have realized this. Kate has had loads of opportunities with her more athletic patronages which she passes on. She’s cancelled on them to sit at Wimbledon and have that counted as a work event.

Even a yachting event one year was cancelled due to bad weather, but she insisted it still take place. It was basically just stood under tents and chatted with the yachting guys while there was no crowd.
So, she has the power to do whatever she wants. She chooses to not work no matter the event.

      • Sunday says:

“aahly yaars” omg i can’t stop laughing

      • Nic919 says:

It’s been ten years and they have given her Wimbledon and all the other play time patronages. She’s too lazy to do any of them consistently. Even Wimbledon is just her watching the tennis matches, men’s mostly, which is what she did prior to being a patron. The girl doesn’t like to work.

  2. Susan says:

I had a dream last night that I was hired to revamp Kate professionally and fashionably. I cut her hair to a sharp long bob, I started dressing her in a French/monochrome/edgy minimalist way and I coached her to smile less, work more, and be a little mysterious and moody. I also coached her to play mind games with William and it worked…It was a GREAT dream!

Now if only I could get my dream job in giving people life makeovers….

    • Merricat says:

The Middletons do nothing BUT play mind games. And dressing her well won’t change her personality.

    • Golly Gee says:

      😂😂😂
      Don’t give up!

    • L84Tea says:

I look forward to the day that she finally does something different with that brown mop of hers because she can’t hide behind her hair curtains forever. I wish just once she would cut her hair above her shoulders. That move alone would put her face everywhere since that’s what she seems to be so interested in lately.

      • t'other says:

But her face . . . she looks so . . . lumpy? old? saggy? I can’t put my finger on it; maybe the only fluid in her body is settling above her shoulders. Haggard.

  3. Dee says:

Child sized mask, check. Big Blue ring, check. Buttony blazer Carole outfit, hair curtains, showing all the veneers. Looking relaxed next to a man who is not William. Check, check, check. Watching men’s tennis and getting the work count up, check.

  4. Sofia says:

What a difference from the football match. Football isn’t everyone’s thing and it’s not Kate’s but she’s definitely much happier here, as Wimbledon is more her style and speed.

  5. ModeratelyWealthy says:

Wow, I agree: Kate has much more chemistry with this guy than with her husband.

It got me thinking: she might have been way happier marrying an older man. Like Rose, you know? A silver fox , sure enough of himself. A man who would not lay his head on Kate´s mothers lp and, instead, be a partner.

    • Sofia says:

And with enough money to support the “lady who lunches” lifestyle she likes and wants.

Slightly unrelated but I think that Pippa and Kate would be happier with swapped lives. Pippa has the most “hustle” out of her siblings (not so much compared to others and the bar is low but still) and would probably want to do royal engagements whereas Kate would be happier with doing the odd pap stroll and living Pippa’s life.

    • Aud says:

I think she’d prefer marrying rich, but with no work expectation. The royal family is expected to do charity work and she obviously hates it. She wants to be a wife and mother and that’s all.

      • notasugarhere says:

Given how little she works yet has at least three nannies and all three kids in school? She’s not doing the hands on child raising. She spends her days shopping, working out with her personal trainer, playing tennis, and wonder where William is.

      • Tessa says:

She does the minimum of work. She is expected to work not just be a “wife and mother.” Average Wives and mothers today NEED to work and help support the family. Kate has to put in an appearance now and then. And the average wives and mothers don’t have two mansions, a full time nanny, and PLENTY of help so they don’t have to do the cleaning up themselves and those who plan meals and cook for them.

    • Ania says:

She would be but she wants power and status and sacrificed happiness for that. I also think Middletons marriage is not happy as she clearly never realised what she was sacrificing untill it was too late. My parents have good marriage, my dad is a great family guy and as long as I’ve been attracted to shitty men I knew deep down that I would never marry someone like that. I know that’s pretty simplified idea but Ma Middleton almost sold Kate to this horrible family and she was young adult when Diana was alive and watched live what being married in meant. Still pushed her daughter to be with a man who treated her with no respect.

    • Frankly says:

I think this is the type she’ll end up with as a second husband. Wealthy(ish), sporty, divorced. Actually, a single/dating Kate would be interesting to follow…

  6. Jais says:

I think the outfit is cute actually. Kinda gives teacher vibes though rather than tennis vibes. Can anyone tell the shoes? White sneakers?

  7. JemimaLeopard says:

The outfit gives me Diana vibes. Surprised she didn’t go full Diana cosplay seeing as she wasn’t allowed to attend the statue unveiling.

    • Rapunzel says:

Was this match not center court? I’m wondering why she doesn’t seem to be in the royal box? Has she ever attended a match as duchess and not sat in the royal box?

      • Nic919 says:

It was a doubles match with Jaime Murray, Andy’s brother. She’s back in centre court to watch the male British players scheduled today, including Andy Murray.

  8. Killfanora says:

The white bag and white shoes cheapen the whole (underwhelming) outfit. That’s all I’ve got.

  9. Amelia says:

I saw that skirt yesterday and I just knew she’s got it stacked in her wardrobe ready for another Diana cosplay someday.

  10. Amy Bee says:

At least she didn’t dress like a tennis player this year.

  11. Moira's Rose's Garden says:

Your choice of photos is brilliant. That first one with the hands is killing me.

  12. Maria says:

The fact that the apron is tied around her blazer and her waist is still that tiny is concerning to me.

    • Millenial says:

Yeah, the picture with the apron is extremely concerning. There’s video of it on Twitter, which is honestly even worse than the picture. I imagine if the rumors are true, she is under a tremendous amount of stress. I hope her family will step in and help her, but I doubt it.

      • Shawna says:

Copying Diana a little too far… if she wanted to be a new Diana, it takes the worst (the cheating, the disordered eating) as well as the best…

    • Jaded says:

She’s wasting away in front of our eyes. She needs to get some ED treatment ASAP — I can’t believe her family isn’t insisting on therapy.

      • caitlin says:

Jaded, she’s been skeletal since she lost weight around the time of the engagement and the royals had ample opportunity to get her some help & clearly did nothing. Boggles my mind that there were no lessons learned from Diana’s ED experience and also that the hovering helicopter parent Carole sat by and watched as Kate’s health visibly deteriorated.

      • Cee says:

Caitlin – Meghan had suicidal ideation and asked for help and she was refused. No one in there is going to help Kate. Not even her own family.

      • Robin says:

I worry for her. I suffered with an ED, and she looks alarmingly similar to me when I was going through those unfortunate years. I hope she is getting support.

      • Maria says:

Sadly her family (well, her and her mother and sister) have all been competitive in years past about who is thinner. So I doubt they’ll be looking at it with objective eyes. Scary.

  13. Pao says:

Not in love with her outfit here

  14. Woke says:

The skirt paired with that bag makes the look granny-ish. And I don’t get her thing for kids masks.

  15. Lizzie says:

Reminds me of how smug Waity looked in the pics of a man escorting her through a museum. She loves the attention of a man, or camera to be honest.

  16. Catherine says:

I’m glad that she is highlighting the charitable work that AELTC does. People would probably be really shocked at the amount of philanthropic work they do year round. This is what a patron should do. What I actually thought she was going to do when they named her patron even though the Duke was still president. I thought okay he’ll get the matches and the trophy presentations and she will highlight the BTS philanthropic work of the organization. What a fool I was. Not only did that not happen but as Kaiser pointed out she even actually went to fewer matches once she became patron. This is another one of those things that show either how lazy Kate is or how unimaginative KP is when it comes to figuring out what to do with her. This patronage could have been a slam dunk of easy activities. Ad so many things with Kate a missed opportunity.

    • Tessa says:

She should have been made to wait for this patronage. She probably pushed and pushed and manipulated for it. IT is something that she does for “fun” no real work.

  17. Me says:

She’s a rather strange combination of desperate for attention, jealousy over the attention others’ receive AND absolutely unwilling to do anything deserving of attention.

  18. girl_ninja says:

Kate off to do some voluntentary prep work at a kitchen today in her pleated Diana skirt and engagement ring. Have fun I guess.

  19. Eurydice says:

Will and Kate both look more relaxed when they’re not with each other. Maybe this is how it will go – solo appearances for the everyday stuff and, every once in a while, as a couple for the more grand events.

  20. Athena says:

If that man with her in the pictures is not in a relationship she should consider an affair of her own. I saw what everyone else here see, the chemistry between them. They make a nice looking couple.

    • PEARL GREY says:

I think the man is Tim Henman, retired British tennis player. He’s married with two children 😂

    • Demi says:

I don’t think she’s the type of person who’s going to pursue an affair I gotta give her that..it takes some confidence& effort to pull one at least while having to sneak around.. kate will have affair with buttons

    • Robin says:

That’s Tim Henman. Happily married with kids; although that wouldn’t stop Kate flirting about (see her behaviour around Harry). Tim is exactly the type of man and lifestyle she should have married.

  21. Nic919 says:

Her hand movements when she talks are always so overdone and in one photo she looks like she’s going to grope someone.

    • Robin says:

I know. I think she’s been told to do it as a prop to help her public speaking, but she can’t stop herself now, all the time.

  22. Kaiser says:

Y’all really don’t read my posts huh. The man she’s seated with on the outer court is Tim Henman, former British #1. He retired from tennis years ago.

  23. Tiffany says:

She really needs to stop wearing her children’s face masks.

    • SarahCS says:

YES. It’s the first thing I see in every picture of her in a mask!

      • lisanne says:

That mask looks perfectly fine to me. It is a tad too low on her nose, perhaps, but she could pull it up and it would be fine.

  24. Having_kittens says:

She’s at the tennis without William, surrounded by cute guys, so not surprised she’s having a good time. The dynamics with William at the soccer game are not great at the moment.

  25. Sof says:

If I was a patron of Wimbledon I’d be there 24/7. Can you imagine having access to all the matches and only attending a couple per year?

  26. Lizzie says:

My sister says no one should wear white shoes but a bride. Lol. The rest of her outfit has good proportions and doesn’t look like a costume. I have never liked her taste in clothes but this is better than most of her outfits.

  27. Philly says:

She looks like she’s having a blast, which is good to see. Especially if everything else her life is as miserable as people keep saying it is. I saw the pics of her at the Andy Murray game too – it’s obvious she’s a huge tennis fan and well suited to this patronage.

    • Nic919 says:

She would have been there for over six hours to catch all those matches, which she never does for any of her other patronages. It would be less offensive if she did work hard on the other ones and then spent a whole day watching tennis. But as it is, all she bothers to do is the fun stuff like watching tennis matches. Miserable life choices or not, she could actually be using her privilege to really help others in a worse spot than she is. But she does not care. Oh and somehow she wasn’t worried about her kids for that long, which is the usual excuse for the under one hour appearances to the other non Wimbledon patronages.

    • Tessa says:

She and William both like the “fun” patronages where they can watch sports. She really wanted this one badly.

  28. Tessa says:

    She always spots the cameras.

  29. Carolind says:

The parents of the guy she is with, Tim Henman, are great friends of the Middleton parents and the four parents used to play tennis together.

  30. Sandi says:

Did anyone see the video of Kate at this match?
She’s in top row seat and there are 4 younger guys 2 rows down. You can see the one guy look at Kate a few times, then she turns and sees him looking at her, then once she knew he was paying attention to her, she looked back at him about 3 times.
