Duchess Kate was keen in green in a $1525 Emilia Wickstead at Wimbledon

TENNIS : Wimbledon 2021 - 06/07/2021

Perhaps it’s because my fave (Serena Williams) lost in the past two Wimbledon women’s finals, but I enjoyed this year’s women’s final so much! I really like both finalists, Ash Barty and Karolina Pliskova, and I would have been happy to see either of them win. In the end, the two women played an absolutely brilliant and surprisingly tense three-setter and it was one of the best Slam finals (on the women’s side) in a while. Ash Barty of Australia ended up winning the Venus Rosewater Dish, her second Slam title in singles. Both ladies were super-emotional about it and everyone was in their feelings.

As we previewed on Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the women’s final. I was trying to remember if William has ever attended the women’s final before now and my cursory research shows that this is the very first time. He usually only shows up for men’s matches. Kate was, of course, getting out of isolation on Saturday after her Covid exposure on an unknown date. Seems sketch, but sure. Also strange? Kate was supposedly in isolation and not able to leave Kensington Palace for the previous seven days, yet she had a fresh dye job, blowout and what appears to be a Botox top-off. I guess those people could have made “house calls,” but it still defeats the purpose of “isolation.” Kate also wore a $1525 Emilia Wickstead dress in green. Keen in Green! Only instead of cosplaying Ireland, she’s cosplaying a grass court, in honor of Wimbledon. The dress is actually very pretty, in my opinion. She also carried a Mulberry bag.

Just like at the 2019 men’s final, Kate passed out the “trophies.” Ash got the Venus Rosewater Dish and Karolina got the runners-up plate. Before 2019, the Duke of Kent (and before that, the Duchess of Kent) would hand out the trophies and plates. It looks like Kate finally succeeded at pushing out the Duke of Kent though – it was announced on Friday that the Duke will be stepping down from his honorary position of president of the All-England Club after 52 years. While they have not announced that Kate will be taking over as president, she was named royal patron to the AELTC years ago and the Middleton PR made sure everyone knew that Kate really, really wanted the Duke of Kent’s job. It’s one of the very few things she’s ever been truly keen about.

Also, there was some drama online about whether or not William and Kate were cheering more heavily for Pliskova (a white woman from the Czech Republic) than Barty (an Australian woman with indigenous heritage). For what it’s worth, it seemed to me like the Cambridges were just cheering the general high quality of the match. That being said, Kate made a total ass out of herself during the meet-and-greet in the Royal Box when she asked Ash what time it was in Australia, and Kate kept interrupting William AND Ash. Ash seemed relieved to be able to move on and fist-bump Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova.

It was all about Kate in the tabs, she was mugging and grinning the whole time, looking at the cameras.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

My God, she’s aging horribly. When you reach 40 you have to choose between an extra 5lb or a worn, drawn face. It’s clear that whoever took the photos was in an unPhotoShoppy mood, too.

      • Robin says:

Yes, they have not gone kindly with the photos.

      • goofpuff says:

Its still photoshopped, but they just didn’t put in the extra effort to make her younger looking.

She’s probably looking way older because her other photos are so photoshopped that when we see her less photoshopped pictures we’re in shock from the difference. If she quit over-photoshopping, we wouldn’t notice so much.

      • Me says:

The thing with Botox is, sure your forehead is smooth, but that makes the contrast with the rest of your face where you can’t ‘tox (breathing, speaking, seeing, chewing, swallowing) all the more extreme. And you have to mug like a circus clown to express yourself. Personally, I think face yoga and light filler is the way to go as your face is less distorted.

Also, the smoking and extreme dieting are really starting to show.

      • Robyn says:

@ME Tell me more about face yoga! Is there anything on YouTube you would recommend?

I mentioned in an earlier thread that the “isolation” was a cover for a “refreshment” and looks like I wasn’t wrong.

      • Me says:

Re ‘face yoga’ there are a few different facial exercise regime out there and they all build your facial muscles to help compensate for collagen loss as you age. And they work generally, but you have to be consistent and some exercises can make your jaw a lot more square. I do think you can really help your face with exercise. My opinion, but I think you look better if you aim for rested and well-preserved—you can ‘tox and fill to oblivion and end up looking weird and haggard because of the extreme contrasts and the distortion to your facial structure. The bottom line is none of us will be 25 again and that’s not a realistic goal. Also, smoking always ruins your skin.

      • Mac says:

Botox is hardly limited to the forehead. I get it next to my eyes (prevents crows feet), along the sides of my nose (prevents bunny lines) and along my jaw and chin to prevent sagging.

      • Chilicat says:

I normally am very anti speaking about people’s weight. I’m no where near my ideal weight. But she looks very thin. Thinner than her wedding (when you normally try and lose pounds for the day.) and it’s not a good look on her. She’s tall. She needs the extra lbs or else she looks unwell. I hate to say it, but she looks unwell.

      • Me says:

I hear you @Mac—but botox is a lot riskier around your eyes, mouth and neck—not something I was willing to do—even in the forehead you can end up with dropped eyebrows that can impede your vision if your provider makes a mistake. There are a variety of laser facial treatments that help with lines as well—to each his own.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@Robyn, I recommend this video for face exercises/yoga.

      • Justwastingtime says:

It’s crazy that, given her access to the best, that she isn’t looking better. My advice that she will never see would be up quit smoking and tanning, get an upper eye lift, do some light chemical peels, and thermage laser (skin tightening) and finally, get some happiness.

Nothing makes you look better than happiness.

      • GRUEY says:

In case anyone is still reading, in addition to botox (nectar of youth as far as I’m concerned) I REALLY recommend getting in your oily fish, walnuts and flax, plus eating the rainbow of produce EVERY SINGLE DAY.

That and sticking to a reasonable daily calorie count, exercise, and being sober (sorry folks) have really slowed my aging. So not anything Kate is doing I would think. Where is the space for getting in your protein and Omegas when you live on 600 Cals a day and ciggies?

    • Chic says:

The pics in DaikyFail were telling. The headline made it seems like WilKAT love story but the pics were of Kat’s OTT hyena grin and one or two smiling photos of Will. Kat was on overdrive happy and Will being low key polite.Weird.

      • Seraphina says:

I watched the video of the interaction posted by @seaflower. The way these two conducted themselves was very strange. As you said, Katey was in over drive and Wills was low key – almost as if he was in the background. Hmmmmm.

      • Jais says:

In the vid, it looked like Ash first walked up to will and he motioned her towards Kate. I mean she is the patron so it makes sense. He’s prob like it’s your job to make small talk today.

      • LMR says:

They were probably whispering hateful things to each other through their teeth.

      • NewKay says:

I never read the Fail- but the pics they chose to run with (Will looking upset and unimpressed beside Kate) peaked my interest. Then i got into the comments and was surprised by the number of people commenting on how shes aged, as well as her grinning and the fact that they do NO work. interesting…..wonder if the tied is turning.

    • Mustang Sally says:

She clearly had her hair freshly done, so the possibility of her exposure at the hairdresser is real.

I do agree – the photos are not kind. I will say, that shade of green of her dress is doing her no favors.

It’s weird (and I know nothing of the effects of Botox) – the photos where her face is making an expression (and the skin is “stretched”) – looks as if she had a little refreshing work done, but in photos where her face is still/neutral, her skin does not look as good.

      • My bitchy take on it: I’d swear half of that head of hair isn’t hers. I hate that hair color on her as it always looks so brassy and doesn’t help soften her face in any way. I liked the dress. Finally, lack of botoxing and photoshopping revealed in close ups is obvious. All I see is this huge grin and her dead eyes. Me thinks she spent the week getting tuned up and there was very little isolation what with the team of technicians it took to get the ‘look’.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

She has a great collection of halos and I’m sure a hair stylist who comes to her. She’s manufactured.

      • Mustang Sally says:

Thank you @Lowcountry Lady! Yes – it is more the hair color that is off (it is indeed brassy/red, and not good with her complexion) as opposed to the dress. The dress isn’t horrible, but as some posters stated, it was a very plain dress for the cost. And yes, she seemed to get a tune up if you compare her appearance in these photos to the photos from her last set of appearances a week before.

In a way (and not certain I can articulate this well) – I feel badly for her. She was Waity Katy for 10 years (her choice) and finally snagged William. She always seemed happy and pretty buoyant (but hard-boiled due to her determination), and now she seems (as you put it) dead-eyed and he seems infernally miserable – she also seems very…vacant & hollow – like the whole Rose Bush thing knocked the wind out of her but she’s keeping up appearances now. But, in these pics, I feel like they are less “disconnected”….I have to wonder if they have been given “instructions” to yuck it up for the cameras as another Diana or Fergie mess (read that: Royal Divorce) is not acceptable to The Queen. Just my take. During the times that they looked really miserable in each other’s company, in my mind I pivot back to those photos of Di & Charles at an event (there was a Polo match and another event where they were dressed up) and both Charles & Di looked so over it and disenfranchised with one another. Truly, truly sad.

      • LaurenMichelle says:

Her face looks harsh, and she looks emaciated. The forced smiling is creepy, and she exudes no genuine warmth. I don’t understand why William chose her to be his wife. Neither one seems happy.

    • Anne Call says:

Trashing of how a female looks in this whole thread is beyond disturbing, I don’t get it.

      • Julia K says:

Have read all comments above and below and fail to see “trashing”. I prefer constructive criticism and casual observation. This is a gossip site. Freedom of expression. Etc.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

The only consistent thing Kate has ever done is superficial: diet, style her hair, use fake bronzer, and play dress up. She’s even said her “work” consists of dressing up. So maybe people make superficial comments about Kate because that’s all there is to her.

      • Bunny says:

She’s choosing to Botox herself, tighten her face beyond what looks natural. She’s choosing to open-mouthed guffaw like a deranged hyena.

She wasn’t always so performative. She didn’t always Botox everything. She wasn’t always so dramatic in public, mugging for the camera. She didn’t always seek out the camera constantly.

She’s making choices. She’s choosing to do these things publicly. We’re choosing to comment.

      • Sunday says:

I’m not going to speak for anyone but myself, but IMO I think Kate’s own actions are way more damaging to women than people snarking on a fashion post. In all of the “official” royal photos, video footage, and shared content on social, Kate is photoshopped to the heavens. Women should be allowed to age gracefully, and not everyone ages at the same pace or in the same ways. No, she shouldn’t be shamed or trashed for having some wrinkles or bags under her eyes – but insisting that every single photo of her be retouched before release just reinforces societal expectations and the unrealistic standards placed on women, and further exacerbates the contrast between edited and non-edited photos of her. People are naturally going to comment and question why she looks radically different from day to day or even event to event depending on the source of the photos. That is unfortunately a part of being a public figure, particularly when the public figure in question is almost entirely focused on aesthetic over character or service themselves.

This is the royal version of Khloe K photoshopping and filtering herself until she’s completely unrecognizable – sure, women can do whatever they want with their own photos and social media accounts, but there’s no denying that it sends an incredibly dangerous message to their fans, particularly young girls, who look at that completely unattainable, unrealistic standard and then think of themselves as less than because they won’t ever look like that. Khloe and Kate don’t look like that, either, and that’s ok.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@Sunday, yes! Another reason why the release of the funeral glamour shots by Christopher Jackson was soooo wrong.

      • Calibration says:

i would call lying about your sister in law, taking over a family funeral with your own personal photog so he can photoshop you disturbing but you know, you’re welcome to stay and be disturbed. Kate deserves all the trashing she gets. She’s earned it.

    • Shel says:

      Kate’s stylist= zero love t give.

    • fishface says:

all I could see were those awful white shoes

  2. Layla says:

“Today I want to be the Wimbledon court”

  3. CherHorowitz says:

Actually really like the dress, but i’m keen for green too. She looks great!

    • tempest prognosticator says:

She does look good. Strong colors suit her.

    • Meghan says:

I like the green but I have a nearly identical dress from Old Navy that cost $30. $1500 for that dress is….not good. Unless I’m missing some sort of unique and unusual detail?

      • goofpuff says:

Very unsurprising the royal rota are not complaining about Kate’s expensive wardrobe paid by the taxpayers and bringing up the past dresses that look pretty much the same as this one she could have worn.

      • swirlmamad says:

Agreed. Still ain’t worth $1500 of “great” however you look at it. It’s a basic dress in a nice color.

      • Mac says:

Since taxpayers don’t pay for her clothes there is no reason for the tabs to complain.

      • equality says:

@Mac Then why were they constantly whining about Meghan’s clothes?

      • Nic919 says:

Clothing used on tours is expensed to the countries they visit, so yes taxpayers do pay for some of her clothing.

    • Bros says:

Now she’s just cosplaying a tennis ball.

    • Jo says:

The dress is nice, but those shoes are tragic though and could have been so much better.

    • fishface says:

eeeeeuuuww nooooo – my high school’s boarding house made the girls wear crimplene dresses after school in the same hideous colour block styles that Keen wears. I think the fabric looks cheap and uniformy. And I really dislike how she wears all her custom-made stuff so tight to accentuate her skinny frame. And then tops it off with a slouch and plastic-looking white shoes.

  4. Seraphina says:

I am not sure why that dress cost the amount it did. Nothing jumps out at me to justify the price tag. And I am really hoping they use the green dress and meme it like they did Melania’s.
    Also, holy hair extensions.

    • Chaine says:

The dress looked good on her and not frumpy for a change, and it’s a brilliant color. But I agree with you, why does it cost so much?! Nothing about it justifies the cost. It looks like something that would be less than $200 at Ann Taylor.

      • Kviby says:

Well hopefully for that price it’s not made in China. A lot of mid-priced apparel (like 100$ yoga pants or a $200 dress) is now made in China. If a rich person is buying a new dress every week hopefully at least it’s made locally. When you realize that clothes that cost so much are still outsourced, maybe that explains part of the cost of those over priced luxury items?

      • Chaine says:

I don’t know anything about the UK garment industry. Here in the US, almost everything is from overseas. I think something like 98% of garments are produced abroad. Even expensive items, although instead of China they will come from Italy, lol. The things that are made in USA will be stuff like cowboy hats, mens’ business clothing, and outerwear.

      • Jais says:

The color is lovely and the silhouette really worked well on her. Something about the sleeves annoyed me though.

      • CourtneyB says:

@chaine Diane bin Furstenberg is involved with supporting the NYC garment district and using locally made materials and workers. It was even on project runway years ago. It showed how even a simple dress can be pricey to mass produce if made locally. The designers were given a breakdown on it and it was really interesting. So you can get designers dresses, etc made in the US but the fancier the more expensive.

    • Amy Bee says:

Emilia Winstead is a high end designer that’s why it cost so much. And that’s just the retail price, Kate’s dress was custom made so the actual cost of her dress is higher.

      • Eurydice says:

Melania Trump wore a very similar Wickstead dress a couple of years ago – darker green and with a belt.

    • tolly says:

It’s polyester! Wickstead is wildly overpriced, considering that they mostly use cheaper synthetic materials (this is not some space-age technical fabric, it’s just a nice day dress).

      • Gillysirl says:

Polyester at that price is ridiculous. I don’t know why she would choose that when she could have anything. I thought they were all about saving the planet and stuff like that.

      • Elle says:

thanks, tolly, this made me laugh like a drain

      • AmB says:

I thought it looked like a nice, basic, 60s-era … poly double knit. Retails for about $8/yard at JoAnn’s. Available in a lot of other basic colors like this green.

You can also probably get this at Chadwicks, NorthStyle, and many other retailers of clothing for ladies of a certain age.

  5. CrazyCatLady says:

Ash Barty is Indigenous, she is a proud Ngarigo woman! It is Naidoc week in Australia and to see this sweet proud Indigenous woman win at Wimbledon is everything!!

I would like to thank Kate and William for helping the republican movement in Australia.

    • Lozface says:

My blood is still boiling at the little excitement they showed our Ash. The crowd was actually pretty disappointing, but Will & Kate have helped the republic movement no end.

They messed with the wrong Australian.

What a special time for indigenous Australians. Look up Patty Mills’ press conference talking about Ash’s win. He chokes up!

      • CrazyCatLady says:

They are so disrespectful, how hard would it have been to read a quick bio on both the players. What time is it? WTF!

The Patty Mills’ press conference was amazing.

    • Seaflower says:

      Hear hear!!!

    • Calibration says:

Crazy cat lady all this. I have proud Ngaragu friends and it was beyond exciting. I didn’t expect keens to care or be interested beyond her having a ‘Wimbledon’ green dress and fresh blow. He cares for nothing. It was an historic moment

Only other comment re cheering. Everyone cheers the loser /underdog. They want the match to extend. I don’t blame them for that

  6. Crowned Huntress says:

I think the botox is starting to become more noticeable in her face. Her cheeks look unnaturally puffy compared to the rest of her more gaunt appearance. I don’t know what’s happening behind closed doors but it’s taking years off of Kate’s life.

The dress is fine but boring and a little long and heavy looking even with her heels. I wonder if Kate envisioned this future for herself when she pursued her Prince Uncharming & would she do it all again if given the chance.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yeah, her face has a more notably “stiff” look to it than usual. I recall some people noting that she might do too much to the point of no return. Looks like we’re seeing that effect more now. Too much work on the face will eventually be impossible to “fix”.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

That’s the cheek filler; they are noticeably “chipmunkier”. And it’s gotten a bit lumpy on the left side.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I am left wondering if she’s using mid-face fillers. She looks puffier through the mid-face.

  7. Kay Dozier says:

The dress is fine, I’ll just never understand why it costs so much. I could swear I saw a similar dress at TJ Maxx.

    • AnneSurely says:

Emilia Wickstead’s clothing is made out of meh quality fabric and the construction is not great either. But new money folks don’t really care about anything but the price tag.

    • bettyrose says:

ITA. I have no issue with the dress. The price tag is hilarious though. I prefer more subdued colors but I would pick up something like that at Ross or TJ Maxx for a low maintenance work outfit.

      • Ann says:

Another Ross fan here! And TJ Maxx. You have to dig a bit at Ross but you can find nice dresses by perfectly good labels like Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, even the occasional Kate Spade for such low prices. TJ Maxx is great and they also have a “high end” section where the prices are higher but still heavily discounted and reasonable. I found my mother a St. Johns jacket there for around $100. She loves that label.

I like the dress, but it’s hard to justify the price.

  8. Kaiser says:

I’m not trying to convince Aussies that they should *not* overthrow the monarchy or anything, but I watched the match and everyone cheered for Pliskova because she was playing so poorly in the beginning. IMO, the Keens were simply cheering whenever there were good rallies and good points.

  9. Dana says:

I woke up feeling a little catty so I will say this: her right eye is looking a little wonky (like a low key version of the influencer from earlier this year) so I think the botox took funny on that side of the face so they invented a sympathetic cover story.

  10. Tessa says:

I’m sorry the DUke of Kent is stepping down.

    • Snappyfish says:

The man is 85. That is a nice retirement age. He has had a great run

      • CourtneyB says:

He still has dozens of patronages. She’s just elbowed him out of a fun one. Even the elderly part time royals work harder.

      • Tessa says:

I could see she was avid to get that patronage from the get go.

    • Lyds says:

You mean the one who is suspiciously close to Putin’s Russia? I’m not.

      • Carolind says:

Lyds, wrong brother! This is Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. The one close to the Russians is his younger brother, Prince Michael of Kent.

  11. Lozface says:

Agree 100%. The fact that republic was trending last night says it all. They were 100% cheering for the white woman, not from a Commonwealth country. Some of the tweets from Aussies I read today were saying ‘well we all know how they feel about people with black heritage!’

    They’ve done themselves no favours.

Ash is an absolute legend and a wonderful human being. This win was so significant, 50 years since Goolagong Cawley, another indigenous Australian. NAIDOC week as well. It’s special, very special.

These idiots messed with the wrong Australian and have peed off a lot of people.

    • Ginger says:

Yeah, Australia was NOT happy with Will and Kate yesterday.

I also can’t believe Kate asked such a stupid question to Ash Barty. How embarrassing.

    • Eurydice says:

So interesting to read the Australian viewpoint, especially the “we all know how they feel about black heritage.”

    • bettyrose says:

Agreed about how interesting this is to read. I don’t follow tennis but I’m intrigued by the sociopolitical analysis of this match (and not the least bit surprised that W & K lacked all sensitivity to the dynamics here).

    • fishface says:

It should be pointed out that the percentage of Australians who demonstrate repugnance for racism is smaller than those who turn a blind eye to it. The ruling right-wing Government and its “Trump-lite” PM have enjoyed a lot of support from the Murdoch-reading rabble who moan about foreigners, refugees and Indigenous people.

  12. FancyPants says:

Doesn’t she have this same dress in light purple? I vaguely remember something like this from a foreign trip, maybe France.

    • Beach Dreams says:

To me this looks pretty similar to the blue dress she wore to the Wimbledon men’s final in 2019. Sleeves are different, but the cut and flow of the dresses are the same. Maybe Wickstead designed that dress too.

      • BeanieBean says:

Yep, that blue dress was a Wickstead, and there’s one in light purple, and green, and pink, and yellow…. Wickstead dresses all look pretty much alike.

      • FancyPants says:

I found what I was thinking of- it’s from the Germany/Poland trip. It was long sleeve and had a fake belt-looking thing around the waist, but it was bespoke Emilia Wickstead.

    • AmB says:

Chadwicks usually offers these styles in a variety of primary and pastel colors.

  13. Linabear says:

This reminds me of when Kaiser called Pippa a “professional tennis watcher” years ago. I’m still LOLing! 🙂

  14. Chaine says:

Kate’s eyes look very careworn in the closeups. I’m starting to realize the reason she makes such maniacal facial expressions is that she is overcompensating with her smile for her botoxed eyes and forehead.

    • Kviby says:

In my opinion Kate does have more wrinkles/Botox than most famous rich women her age, and more than her husband who is her age. (I feel like Harry also has more than William, right? Maybe due to that red head pale skin or just their differing face shapes.)
I want to point out that the standard we have for Kate’s skin is only for ladies. Some men her age have a lot of wrinkles and some like William dont. I’ve never heard Williams sin mentioned at all, only his genes (related to his dad being ugly I guess.) We never praise them for good skin or get all shocked at the haggard ones (unless they are exceptionally haggard or a bad person). I’m sure some of the Chris’s are around her age, have we ever discussed their (either) bad skin or amazing youthfulness? As a woman I do feel sad every time it’s about her being too “aged” and people seem happy /disgusted about it. It reinforces the value we have as youthful decorative objects. Men are ageless and evaluated on their actions and associations

      • bettyrose says:

        Kviby:

” It reinforces the value we have as youthful decorative objects.”

        ** Standing ovation ***

As women sometimes we’re our own worst enemies perpetuating this culture. And yet a lot of the discussion of Kate is just bewilderment at a woman who has seemingly all the time in the world for spa treatments while us normal folk are swapping tips on drug store hacks for skin maintenance. (and I do like our collective appreciation for self care even if it’s supporting an industry based in patriarchal standards of beauty).

      • Maria says:

You’re right. But the thing is, Kate herself has used her “glowing youthful complexion” as a stick to beat Meghan with in their tabloid/Press campaign against her, making fun of Meghan’s biracial skin. So, no, I’m not sorry whenever it shows that the emperor has no clothes.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Kviby, I agree with you, but I think something else is being addressed here. Her use of botox was denied by the palace, which only drew attention to it. So, you have all of the smears against M without anything being addressed by the palace, and then you have the palace jump to K’s defense. I don’t think people would be so quick to point out that she’s doing the face enhancements if that hadn’t happened. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do. I am saying that the only thing that K wants people to focus on is her appearance. That’s it.

  15. Nic919 says:

So we have them boosting the independence movement in Scotland and the Republican movement in Australia in just a few months. That’s a lot of hard work so we won’t see them for a while after Sunday.

    • Seraphina says:

I think they are doing a brilliant job and they should be shipped to more commonwealth countries! Viva la revolution!

      • LainieR says:

How can we get them to muck things up in Canada? Any ideas? I’d like to see them go….

  16. Midge says:

How are we not talking about those shoes???? dear lord. It’s her pump white tennis shoe cosplay. And I know this is mean, but she is aging like a heavy smoker.

    • Seaflower says:

Thank you – I saw them and they screamed “cheap, dollar saver, discount” store…….

    • Seraphina says:

I too did not understand why those shoes were paired with the dress. She has no game what so ever. Meghan has shoe game. Loved scrolling frantically to see what was on her feet. For I too love shoes.

      • Snappyfish says:

While the shoes were unfortunately paired w/that dress my guess is since it is required on Centre Court to wear white shoes, this was a nod to that Wimbledon tradition. I personally don’t care for white pumps.

      • Snappyfish says:

Well that shot down my own theory as she is wearing pale pink shoes (which are cute) today

    • Over it says:

Everything you said. Those shoes are whiter than brides white. Again I agree with you about everything

    • RoyalBlue says:

Those white pumps were unfortunate. i don’t know why Khate’s handlers insist on dressing her like she is stuck in a time machine in the past.

      • Amelia says:

I think they would’ve looked better with today’s outfit and the shoes she wore today would’ve looked better with yday’s dress. Today she’s decided to single white female the Crown Princess of Denmark (another woman who actually gets work done and trained for her role properly!) but in pInK!

      • Elle says:

I think someone is trolling her so bad to let her be seen in public with those shoes

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

The ONLY person who should be wearing completely white shoes is a bride. Nothing screams as loudly as pure white shoes do. Could you imagine a purple shoe with that green? Or leopard, pale yellow, or even tan? Even her perpetual nude or black heel would look better than whiter than white shoes.

And lookee here who’s keeping small, small-handled purses in her rotations now. Ms. “I only carry a clutch to put in front of my crotch” herself!

    • Liz version 700 says:

Green for the grass and white shoes for the lines!!!!! She does love a good theme dressing event! The dress is very pretty, expensive as heck but pretty. The shoes are terrible.

    • Eurydice says:

I think white pumps are the things now. I read that these are Jimmy Choo – around $650

  17. Mittens says:

Curled hair check, flared skirt check, puff sleeves check! It’s 2021 not 1956, this is what happens when you get style stuck.
So happy for Ash Barty’s win, she is a great role model, spokesperson and superb tennis player.

  18. Matthew says:

    those white pumps

    • Elle says:

Ah yes, the White Pumps of White Supremacy, Linecalls, and Doom LOL

      • Justjj says:

Why the pumps gotta be white tho!!? The shoes are some 1987 Vanna White realness, for sure. White pumps might be a thing right now, but cosplaying a literal tennis court and grass is a bit much. That was my first thought before I even read Kaiser said it. I think the silhouette of the dress is questionable honestly, and the shade feels dated and out of place at this event.

  19. Seaflower says:

Also Australian, and the general consensus of my friends who were here watching it with me was that W/K were cheering more for the non Commonwealth player who was white.

To not know the last Aussie female won 50 years ago and is an iconic and much loved Indigenous woman was a slap in the face. And fopr it to occur in NAIDOC week – the “soft diplomacy” of the royals was non existent last night.

There was talk about republic again last night on twitter by Aussies (not in newspapers they are all owned by Murdoch or his acolytes. It did not go down well.

    • Frida_K says:

It really shows a lack of professionalism, at best, and racism AND a lack of professionalism at worst.

If these two idiots really did actually take their jobs seriously, they would have had someone to research the background and significance of the players involved. It would have required about an hour or so of someone’s time. Then they would have gone to the match as professional, working royals who knew, full well, the significance of the players.

But that wouldn’t even occur to them, it seems. And they hire people so stupid and lazy that nobody apparently could take it upon themselves to do a quick bit of research and then tactfully bring the findings to their attention.

Nope, they just show up and grin maniacally and ask stupid questions and insult everyone.

And these are the people who think that it’s their God-given right to maintain these positions?

      Holy COW.

    • Amen, Frieda K —- These two never do their homework though do they? They just show up in their rich, privileged, isolated little royal bubble and behave exactly as they want too without any thought to actually doing their jobs as representatives of Great Britain and the Commonwealth. I’m not surprised in any way that Kate had no clue what time it was in Australia or that she would ask such a stupid question. Unprepped, unprepared and proud of it. They are both so in love with who they are, that it has to always be about them in whatever they do and not about the event, or the person, or the charity.

    • ennie says:

Asking the time of one of their Commonwealth countries, part of the realm they will rule in the future-future? They should at least know that by heart, I bet Q. Elizabeth does know those pesky details, gosh, these two are SO LAZY.
In my country there are not a lot of people who do research before going to a cultural site, I’ve been guilty of that, but after my friends and I coincided with an Italian gentleman (from Como)who showed great knowledge of the archeological site we were visiting,I got really ashamed and have gotten better.
I just thought how Europeans were so knowledgeable, as other German in law is so knowledgeable as well. I see I was wrong.

  20. Digital Unicorn says:

Yeah someone looked fresh as a daisy yesterday – am still not buying the COVID exposure story but I guess her handing out the trophy yesterday and being seen with Cain was a way to distract from how badly that story was rolled out to the press with the story that she was going to be leaving isolation early – cause she is sooooooooooooooooo serious about her duuuuuty.

She was mugging for all she was worth yesterday and will do the same today for the men’s final (cue all the kissy faces) and at the Euro’s final.

    • JT says:

I also still believe it was all a lie. She just didn’t want to go to the NHS event because it wasn’t fun. Hell, maybe William didn’t want her there either; it could be both by how unstable their marriage seems to be. I saw a story on E News that said “Kate’s Chic Look in 1st Appearance After Covid Scare” and I’m like calm down. She merely had a covid scare and people act like she was at risk for amputation and stuck on a damn ventilator. It was ridiculous. The bar for this lightweight is on the floor that some simple isolation time for “exposure” is touted as brave. My goodness.

    • Thirtynine says:

She did look unusually pleased with herself, I thought.

  21. Amy Bee says:

I didn’t like the dress. It would have looked good on an older woman. Kate’s too young to be dressing like this. The post match talk was just embarrassing. It’s clear that they weren’t briefed on the players. I see why KP staff complained about Meghan. She liked to be briefed on the people she was meeting and organizations she was visiting.

  22. Merricat says:

I don’t care for that shade of green, and I dislike darts, both generally and specifically here. I do think she’s better in simple designs.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Merricat, I wonder why they did this when they could have used princess seams. Afterall, it’s a gored skirt. I don’t get it.

  23. Eurydice says:

Is there some kind of mask-wearing protocol? Why are W&H wearing them in one shot and then not in another? They’re sitting with the same people.

  24. Plums says:

I actually watched the entire women’s final yesterday even though I don’t really care about tennis at all, and I was absolutely enthralled by it, lol. It was so dramatic and tense! I couldn’t even tear my eyes away or think about anything else at all, and I usually just have the tv on in the mornings for background noise. I agree with you totally that it looked like Kate and William were just super into how exciting and excellent it was to watch and were cheering when something awesome happened, with no real investment in either player. It actually endeared them to me somewhat because I never see them genuinely interested in or entertained by things. I think the Aussies on twitter were just understandably deeply emotionally invested in Ash Barty and so any time the camera showed Will and Kate clapping for some bonkers, awesome thing Katerina did to win a point, they were like “WHY ARE OUR ROYAL FAMILY CHEERING FOR THE COMPETITION?!”, and some squaddies just saw those tweets and ran with them and ascribed a racist narrative to it because god forbid Will and Kate do something politically neutral and normal and not be motivated by white supremacy 24/7. I think a lot of them probably didn’t actually watch the match.

but as to the aussies reaction, it’s totally understandable to me. I may not be super into tennis, but I am a big baseball fan, and we all have the same reaction to Joe Buck when he calls World Series games and has to be neutral, but since fans are all used to their own team’s announcers, his talking up both teams equally feels like mega bias against their own because they aren’t used to hearing game announcers give equal weight to the other team and players, and as a result, all baseball fans hate Joe Buck for being so obviously biased against their teams when they watch the World Series, lol. idk the overblown, offended reaction to a pair of people innocuously enjoying fun tennis being played in front of them really reminded me of that.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Lol. Well good for you for being “endeared” by two layabouts showing interest in a leisurely activity. So easy to please. Also, the Aussies themselves were under the impression that these two preferred the white player, as seen in tweets straight from them. Trying to ascribe blame to the squaddies is deceptive at best.

      • swirlmamad says:

Right? Lol. So many words when you could just say you are a William and Kate apologist and be done with it.

      • Plums says:

Karolina started off the match like she was gonna get slaughtered and had to fight and claw her way back from behind in order to be competitive. Of course they cheered for her rallying back to make the game competitive. Anyone who enjoys sports and wants what they’re watching to be exciting would cheer to see her do that.

      • Kebbie says:

@Plums I think your Joe Buck analogy works for the royal comment sections on this site as well lol

    • MadMangoMal says:

Do you understand what white supremacy is? These are members of the royal family, the only thing that has ever motivated them is upholding white supremacy.

    • Res says:

“It actually endeared them to me somewhat because I never see them genuinely interested in or entertained by things..” ….. If you’ve been following the Cambridges, they are genuinely invested in trying to destroy Harry and Meghan, and they probably enjoy doing so….so yes, they are both “endearing”…

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Plums, I’m interested in your impression of the interaction between K and Ash. Was that endearing, too?

      • Plums says:

??? the only interaction I saw between Kate and Ash was the trophy ceremony and what looked like a scheduled bit of small talk wherein the only thing I heard was Kate ask about the time in Australia, lol I don’t know what about it was offensive to anyone. swear to god some people are so obsessed with blowing up and reading the worst into every little thing they do, no matter how innocuous. And I don’t generally like either of them, but this gets truly ridiculous sometimes. People need to take a step back from internet echo chambers and gain some perspective.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Plums, perhaps you should do some research on the person who won. I can understand a regular person not knowing, but a royal who actually met and talked with them? You REALLY don’t understand that? Well, that says something about you and not the people who took exception to it.

      • swirlmamad says:

@Plums, for me personally I am beyond disgusted at Kate and William’s behavior towards Meghan over the past 5 or so years. M’s character and reputation were destroyed beyond repair in the UK all due to their hatefulness and jealousy. And that’s not even taking into consideration what they’ve done to Harry, in William’s case for their entire lives. To me what they’ve done is unforgivable and I will never again give the Cambridges the benefit of the doubt. They do not deserve any sympathy nor grace in my opinion. That’s MY perspective.

      • Tessa says:

And how she ignored Archie and kept the children away from him was just horrible.

  25. harla says:

Has anyone else noticed Kate wearing this bracelet that looks a lot like the cabochon sapphire Diana bracelet that Meghan wears?

    • Layla says:

Yeah she wasn’t the one that inherited it so naturally she had to get one to because: “anything you can do I can do better than you”.
Also, single white femaling because duh this is so a competition

  26. Miss M says:

Anyone have video of the exchange between Kate and Barty re the time in Australia?

    • Seaflower says:

try this it starts a little after where the video starts.
      https://youtu.be/p6vV80ZqHW4?t=5889

      • Seraphina says:

Thank you for posting. Strange to see Kate in over drive and Wills being over shadowed. And I dare say he was not happy with a few of the glances he shot her.

      • Abby says:

I thought people were exaggerating about this scene. But I was wrong. Kate like flew over, hair flapping, to dominate talking to her, over the Duke of Kent, and William. It was so strange. And yeah the looks William gives her… yikes.

  27. SKF says:

I don’t know… I’m Australian and I’m a republican through and through. It annoys me to no end when the royal family cheers for UK teams over us when we play them (if you want to be our heads of State, remain neutral). However, I stayed up late to watch this match and I did not perceive them as cheering more for Pliskova. I thought they applauded some amazing shots and rallies; which, quite frankly, I did too – it would be rude not to when the tennis is that good. Were they as enthusiastic for Ash as they should be? No. Should they have done their damn homework and known about the significance, the time difference, and everything else? Yes. Should they show more respect to her as the recipients of the wealth and power of colonised lands? You’re damn straight. But, can I muster the energy to get worked up about this? No. I am pouring all of my energy into radiating joy for Ash! What a win!!! And of course, I hope to be a Republic in the next decade. These two nitwits are just that.

  28. Harper says:

The Royal Family channel also had a clip of Kate and TOB taking their seats. They take off their masks and Kate is saying something to Prince Elegant, who said a few words back but would not look at her. You can see Kate realize that she’s not going to get her moment on camera of TOB looking her in the eye and connecting that she wanted from him, and she immediately turns to talk to the man on the other side like she’s thrilled to see him. The Prince, meanwhile, stares ahead looking annoyed. Since TOB hasn’t been to the ladies’ final before, it appears as if it was suggested he attend by the crisis managers to shore up their image but at that moment he did not play along.

The Fail has the clip but it mysteriously ends right when they unmask and before our little lovebirds had their exchange or lack of one.

    • Nic919 says:

I saw that clip and agree with your assessment. It was weird between them the whole time. He barely looked in her direction the entire time. It’s hard to pretend there aren’t serious issues there.

      • Harper says:

When the Fail edits an original video clip from 48 seconds down to 33 seconds, you know that someone got to them. Kate’s expression was really telling when he wouldn’t look at her. Sometimes I feel sorry for her and I do think that when she saw Harry’s explicit love for Meghan she also wanted her and Will to be known as really into each other. She keeps trying for those moments but he won’t play the game. That to me is the main behavior that fuels the facade marriage narrative. He won’t give her that reassurance which she so clearly wants from him.

    • Tessa says:

I cannot feel sorry for Kate after the way she acted towards Meghan.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

@Harper, shocking a clip was cut short or edited I say! LOL. I’m on the team that’s quite positive the after funeral walk was edited by the BBC to cut out an awkward exchange.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

@Harper, shocking a clip was cut short or edited I say! LOL. I’m on the team that’s quite positive the after funeral walk was edited by the BBC to cut out an awkward exchange.

  29. Penelope says:

I’ve read a few comments about her looking “botoxed” that sort of make me think no one here has ever gotten it. If her cheeks look puffy, that’s filler. If her forehead looks smooth, that’s Botox. Also, Botox takes about 7-10 days to take effect; if she was looking “botoxed” she would to have it shot into her face on day 1 of her isolation. Regardless, whatever dermatological improvements she keeps making to her face are not helping. The right combination should always make you look well rested and youthful … not whatever it is that she keeps doing to her face.

    • Lizzie says:

Thanks Penelope. When I first got Botox, over a decade ago, the doctor did my entire forehead. More recently they are more strategic to just hit the deepest wrinkles and still look natural and be able to move eyebrows. Watch out for too much filler as she is bordering on looking like a bravo housewife. Lol, RHKP.

    • Sunday says:

Yea, most of the commenters here seem to think it’s like Popeye eating his spinach – instant muscles! LOL no.

IMO most of the disparity in her appearance is simply the contrast between filtered/edited/photoshopped photos and the actual, raw images. For example, yesterday a photographer (from Getty I believe) shared one of his shots of kate and will at wimbledon and it was clearly unedited. Almost instantaneously that same photo was shared by the official royal accounts, reporters, and big cambridge fan accounts, except they were all using an edited version of the same photo which smoothed her face to high heavens. Kaiser usually runs the original, unedited photos of her, while other more royal-friendly sites and reporters use the edited versions. And depending on the photographer (like Chris Jackson), sometimes the unedited version never even sees the light of day.

  30. JaneBee87 says:

    @Simone 👏👏👏👏

  31. UnionSnack says:

Tbh I didn’t know about such a drama at wimbledon… I was watching the photos and thought that Wills and Frills look quite good and relaxed both. Because of your comment I’ve just read the context. Oh. My. God. I always thought that rumors about K’s dullness are a bit overhyped but now I see that this is the woman who can only talk pretty nonscence about her kids. That shows clearly: she doesn’t consider wimbledon as work (as it expected to be), she just considers it as a fun and posh time for her. Disgraceful.

  32. Anon says:

IMO what Kate should have done and been PROPERLY prepared to do was acknowledge Ash’s win and compliment her/comment on Ash’s choice of outfit to honor Goolagong Cawley. That should not have been any stretch for her at all. What time is it?! WTF . It just shows how little ability she has to think on her white shoed feet…..

    • Thirtynine says:

Yes, Ash had just won Wimbledon in a fabulous, hard fought win. Kate is supposed to be a genuine tennis fan. Even if she knew nothing about Ash such as the link to Goolagong Cawley or how significant this win was at this time, why on earth wouldn’t she congratulate her and comment on the actual match she’d just watched? A compliment on an inspiring match and so on would have been perfectly appropriate. Tennis supposed to be something Kate actually knows about.

  33. Curious says:

! looked at that video, and the commenters was saying how the winner, won and got to meet 3 royals and 2 pro tennis players that won many times before… then they said ,her heart must be pounding. the woman won,she worked hard, she didn’t do this to meet the future, future king and queen consort. she made her country proud. a person don’t get where they are by shaking hands. she worked.congratulations to Ash Barty.

    • Jais says:

Yeah I think the commentator said something about how exciting it was to meet a future Queen and future king. It was cringey. Being a badass that just won Wimbledon is the main point of excitement but okay sure Jan.

      • Curious says:

this is like historical , no woman have won since 1980. who gave a shit having lazy people shaking your hand and asking what time is it in Australia. Australia.everyone knows the time difference. just look at new yrs day australia is first. for me they are a day ahead of me . i am still on sunday while they on monday.

    • North of Boston says:

Exactly… plus, who was the 3rd royal?

      • Nic919 says:

The Duke of Kent was there as well. He’s actually a knowledgeable tennis fan so I bet it would be more interesting to talk to him because he would have given the trophy to Goolagong and Laver. The other two dimwits are dilettantes there for PR.

      • Curious says:

Duke of Kent .he is resigning ,he was the president of the tennis club

    • Merricat says:

They were lucky to meet Ash.

  34. Julia K says:

Pics shown yesterday had them looking happy together and smiling. Now about the dress; was supposed to be sleeveless but she had it altered to add those little caps at the shoulders. Why? Added nothing to the line of the dress. Was it to make her shoulders wider and hips even smaller? Hmmm.

    • Rocķy says:

Probably not “royal” enough to wear a sleeveless dress

      • BeanieBean says:

Except her first Wimbledon as a married-in she was sleeveless. The cap sleeves do not help this dress at all. Cap sleeves do no woman any favors. And there’s certainly no need to make her shoulders broader or her hips narrower.

  35. Robin says:

The photos of Kate at this event are not kind. The Daily Mail does this to her – if she plays ball, they edit her; if she doesn’t, they don’t. They are obviously not helping her at this point in time, and letting her look haggard and near true to life.

I wonder whether this could be for two reasons. One, Kate and William are not letting them run something and the DM is pushing back. Two, the DM is therefore letting a story develop visually (perhaps a false one, perhaps the true one), ie that this couple is not functioning and Kate is falling to pieces before our eyes. It seems a cruel trick to play, to manipulate them like this through the lens, but you get into bed with dogs, you wake up with fleas.

    • Jais says:

The mirror had a particularly bad picture of Kate and I was actually surprised. It was an angle and moment that gave her triple chins. Which is natural and happens but those pics never get posted.
It was the pic on Twitter for the daily mirror article link. But it was quite bad and had me side-eying, like someone does not like Kate at the daily mirror.

      • Robin says:

Jais. Thanks for the tip off. I went over to the Mirror. You are so right – that picture is awful. Thing is, if you ever want a less than airbrushed image of Kate, it’ll be found in The Sun or The Mirror. Those two tabloids don’t seem to have the DM’s cloying relationship with the royal family. But, truly, that Mirror picture is one of the worst I’ve ever seen, as was the “Kate Wrinkleton” from years ago by The Sun. The Mirror is understood to be a left working class tabloid in the UK (or was), so its royal coverage may be seen as historically slightly less than glowing. Funny to think that Piers Morgan was once thought of as the voice of the working socialist when he was editor of The Mirror. (Jais, sorry if I’m stating the obvious and you’re in the UK)

      • Jais says:

Nope @robin, not from the uk, so this information is really interesting. I think I read in a comment here once that the mirror was more left-leaning but honestly couldn’t tell from the headlines. Maybe it’s more so in the non-royal articles? They seem to treat Meghan about the same as most of the other tabloids from what I can tell? I try not to read unless Kaiser excerpts or it’s clearly a pro-Sussex article. However,I did go into the daily mail to read that one article from Sarah Vine, which I do not regret cuz that was funny.
If piers worked there, then, misogyny must have been running rampant at some point and prob still is. Some of the most progressive-identifying men I’ve ever met eventually out themselves as problematic on a lot of levels.

  36. Curious says:

i don’t understand Catherine. in her world is dressing up and acting like she is the most happy woman on the planet. her laughter is odd. she laughs throwing her head back.and i am like ok,what was the joke? your husband looks serious, he doesn’t throw his head back like its the most funny thing that was ever said. each time i wonder what was the joke? the people around them doesn’t laugh. i know some people giggle a lot when they nervous.but this is different, Catherine wide mouth in public where one can see her tonsils, laughing like she is at home watching a funny show. even at home, when i see something funny,i laugh, never once have i thrown my head back.i normally cover my face or my mouth.

  37. mariahlee says:

Golden tan, bouncy blowout, perfectly tailored new dress, but it brings me consolation that no matter what she does, she still has the face she deserves.

  38. Agreatreckoning says:

Hmmm…wonder what else might be going through both their minds while Kate’s presenting a trophy named the Venus Rosewater Dish.

    Congratulations to Ash!

  39. stagaroni says:

I always enjoy seeing tennis greats Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King.

  40. Likeyoucare says:

Guys, i know why kate kept buying expensive clothes!

When they divorce kate can keep all of her clothes since she can’t have the jewelleries because they were mostly on loan.

    These clothes were her investment!
    But unfortunately dear kate,
Your clothes have no value as they were so ugly no one will want them.

    • Curious says:

lol she wore green, but she will never ever win over Meghan green dress, where Harry/Meghan was smiling lovingly towards each other under 1 umbrella in the rain.

      • BeanieBean says:

That was the blue dress, Curious, but I agree–Meghan in that green dress (Commonwealth Service) set the standard Kate can only dream about.

  41. Dee says:

Theme dressing (Wimbeldon colors) , check. Long curtains of hair, check. Expensive custom designer dress that doesn’t look expensive, check. Big blue, check. Freshly plumped face, check. Hyena grins, check, check, check

  42. HeyJude says:

LOL It’d be quite karmic if England losses in the Euros finals now, wouldn’t it?

  43. gilda says:

These pictures are ROUGH, she looks exactly like Carole. It’s clear these photos are airbrushed, the last one should be considered an illustration, and still Kate looks so incredibly old. Their poisonous interiors are catching up to their faces, they look wilted and dehydrated. Yikes.

  44. Beech says:

I see what you did North of Boston. 😊

  45. HeatherC says:

I wish we could talk about something other than her appearance….but she doesn’t give us anything else to talk about. Even when she does a project, or latches onto a completed one, she still doesn’t give us more than a post or two discussion because of how little HER is in there. She is purposefully a blank slate that we can project onto. And since most of us don’t want to be a tradwife in support of colonialism and white supremacy, her appearance is what we’ve got.

I like the color. I hate darts, especially darts at the nipple line. It’s overpriced for what we’ve got but at least she didn’t raid the queen’s closet for a huge statement necklace I guess. Also whatever she is doing to her face she has to stop. The fillers are starting to overtake her eyes (see first picture). I agree with other posters that the hyena rictus grins are done because that may be the only part of her face that she CAN move.

It wouldn’t hurt for her to do some research or have one of her many assistants and staff do some research and put it on an index card, but the bar is so so low that all she has to do is turn up and get praised.

  46. Jaded says:

They can’t even get a simple twitter message right…”Well done to @Wimbldedon and the staff on continuing to make the Championships such a success…”

Well her face seems to be reaching puffball mushroom proportions, pretty impossible considering she doesn’t have an ounce of fat on the rest of her body. That and the big hair make her look like she’s going to topple over. The dress is meh but those white shoes are a travesty.

  47. EveV says:

I just asked my man how old he thinks Kate is and he answered with “49? I don’t know, 53?” I think that says everything.
But these pictures did make me realize that Kate looks younger when she smiles, imo, which is why I think she’s always doing the OTT hyena grins- she must think the same thing.
I lol’d at the commenter above who said she’s cosplaying a tennis court now. Spot on.
I don’t follow tennis so I didn’t realize the significance of Ash’s win until reading the comments! I’m horrified that after winning Wimbledon in a huge way with huge meaning, she was asked what freaking time it is in Aus! WTH?!

    • Ann says:

That’s the thing, she definitely looks older than she is. I haven’t done any Botox or fillers or anything, not because I am against it but just because I hate needles near my face. I just do skin products and try to drink plenty of water, etc. I’m sure I look my age and that’s OK.

But I’m not in the public eye. I don’t like to comment on another woman’s appearance but it is SO noticeable that she is aging fast. Her neck? Normally you don’t start to get neck wrinkles like that until your mid forties or so. And the question is why? Is it dieting? Smoking? Tanning? Genetics? Misery? A combination of all of those?

I would hate to be a celebrity. The pressure would be unbearable.

  48. aquarius64 says:

The Cambridges step on the PR rake at an engagement again. I get the media blackout by Murdoch but I wonder if the “crisis managers” show these idiots how they are getting dragged on Twitter. The Great While Dopes of the monarchy along their press minions give the UK a black eye.

  49. BlueToile says:

Simone, are people in Australia thinking this was a racial issue? I don’t watch tennis, but with everything we have seen against H&M in the past few years…I just wonder how others are seeing this situation.

    • Lozface says:

I’m not sure if it’s specifically racial, but it’s a terrible look when Australia is a Commonwealth country, and Ash is indigenous. Knowing how lazy they are, they probably don’t even know that.

Mind you the Wimbledon Twitter account shared a great video about Evonne (narrated by Ash) which highlighted their indigenous connection. It isn’t a secret!!!!

Terrible optics, at a time when you would think the Royal Family would want to avoid anything that could be perceived as racism.

The good thing in Australia is Ash is universally adored. I can’t remember the last time a sports person was this admired in Australia, so there’s a lot of people disappointed in the Royals. If they can cheer for England in the Euros, they can cheer for an Australian at Wimbledon.

    • BlueToile says:

Thanks for your reply, @Lozface. An acquaintance who spent her career in high stakes marketing for large corporations once told me “Perception rules the world.” I have always remembered and applied that. In this instance the most important point is that Australians perceived Will & Kate cheering against Ash. Not good.

  50. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

Something in these pictures suggested there was tension between William and Kate behind the scenes. Kate’s guffaw seems extra forced.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I think what is occurring is that Kate will no longer be doing royal events without William present. I think the separation is happening. She looks like she has just as much contempt for Wills as he does for her.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

NotSoSimpleTaylor, I was wondering if she wouldn’t be alone at future engagements, or if they’re giving her enough rope to hang herself. She really is incapable of doing engagements that require more of her than just reading her notes. Also, was that the Duke of Kent standing on the other side of K when she was talking to Ash? I thought it was interesting that he rubbed his nose when K asked about the time. I guess something didn’t smell very good.

    • Sunday says:

I’m not saying there wasn’t tension, but I think that the weirdness with the photos is because every single one of them is clearly staged. Like, they had a checklist of poses (one of father and son, one of kate and son, one of the couple smiling at each other) and then outside of those pre-planned obligations they resort back to their natural state, which from the outside appears pretty grim (neutral at best expressions, little interaction, etc).

    • Truthiness says:

The first thing I thought of when I saw Will is that he may be replacing the Duke of Kent. He enjoys the sports assignments after all, it’s hardly work. It would help the transition if Kate eventually loses the patronage.

  51. Gm says:

I liked all three dresses I’ve seen Kate wear for Wimbledon, green, pink, blue. She looks great. Sometimes I think royals including Kate don’t look good in their clothing. Not sure exactly why, maybe not polished/ ill fitting/ ill chosen. You know what I mean. If something doesn’t make me want to have it then it’s a pass. I notice the styles are similar here but pretty and suit her frame. I wonder if it’s because she has stylist and maybe Sophie doesn’t?

    • Marivic says:

She looks old in all her green, pink, blue dresses. She’s not at all awesome and fabulous in any one of them. IMO.

  52. equality says:

Interesting that the only day Bea attends Wimbledon in the royal box is when W&K were nowhere around.

    • swirlmamad says:

I think it’s even more interesting that Pippa and her husband were at the football match when William was and they didn’t interact nor sit near each other.

  53. Lady Digby says:

William sulks , withdraws and eye rolls and fades on her so Kate overcompensates with big gestures and lots of laughing. They collaborated over getting rid of the competition now they are fighting each other and as Henry 8th made it clear, adultery is allowed for male monarch but their wives are disposable with or without providing the heir and the spare. Believe me, happy or sad, this particular couple deserve each other.

  54. SusanRagain says:

Billie Jean King is in the background of one photo, and she looks the same to me as she did 20-30 years ago.
Martina Navratalova (Sp?) looks good too.

IMO, if W&K were to divorce = End of The Monarchy/The Firm.
They might or might not be happily married but if they want the crown they better put on a good face for the public.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

SusanRagain, I disagree. I don’t think divorce would be a big deal. It would be a 1 day wonder and then go away. They place too much emphasis on this, when it’s just not as important as it once was even if you’re royal.

      • JT says:

I also think William would be fine after a divorce. If he played his cards right regarding the PR of a separation, I think he could weather the storm. He’ll have an easier go of it than Charles as Kate is not as beloved as Diana was; she’s actually quite forgettable when not in the spotlight. William just needs to get to work and be seen out and about more, as well as lean into the present single dad PR. He doesn’t even need a new wife right away. He could date quietly under the radar until he finds a suitable wife and number two could be even more low key as Camilla is now. She won’t be under as much scrutiny as Kate and she needs to be is moderately competent in comparison to Keen.

    • Kkat says:

Naa them divorcing would be fine.
They just need to spin it correctly.
It needs to happen before the queen dies and the tabloids start dropping all the affairs he’s had. And the other stuff they have on him.

Three of the queen’s 4 children are divorced, the queen’s sister was.
A bunch of the grandkids are divorced

It’s not like it would be some big shocking thing.
The BM would love it and eat it up with a spoon.

    • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say if Kate behaves herself well during any separation, keeps her family behaved and her entire family stays out of the spotlight, they may just keep it to separation and not a full on divorce. If Kate and her family start up with the press and continue to make trouble for William, he will absolutely divorce her. I can see that being the deal that is being struck behind the scenes.

      • TEALIEF says:

@NSST, while I think she may be able behave herself and toe the line, I doubt she’ll be able to get her family, especially her mother, to get with that programme. Her mother is shameless and off the leash as it is.

      • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I get the feeling Willie is running out of f*cks to give when it comes to Kate and her family. So either Kate can get them in line or get divorced.

And I think Carole will stop if she is forced to and Kate being Princess of Wales or Queen Consort is on the line. They want those titles, remember? I think she’s smart enough to know that William means business. Carole has played the long game before. She can do it again.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

NotSoSimpleTaylor, but how do they make Keen competent enough to do the job of either DOW or QC? I think that is the biggest stumbling block to keeping her around. She just is so incompetent and I don’t know how you fix that.

      • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

You simply don’t have her do anything and keep her to the background. Give her a house and money to occupy her time and give her a vacation allotment and call it a day. The kids are at an age where they will be shipped off to boarding school soon so as long as she keeps a low profile, she can do whatever she wants. They still pay for her lifestyle, she stays away from the media and keeps everything discreet.

My prediction is that when Charles is king all spouses will be relegated to the background and the focus will be on blood royals only. William will keep that trend going if for any reason than to keep Kate away. While I don’t think divorce for members of the royal family is a big deal, I do think it’s best to not invite that scrutiny if you’re the monarch. It’s not the end of the world but I think it can reflect poorly on William no matter how you spin it. People in the UK will question William’s leadership (like he has to be a leader of anything) if they realize he chose the wrong spouse and a bunch of bad stuff comes out about Kate. On the flip side if he is too cold and callous about dumping her as Charles was with Diana then she can run to the press and spill EVERYTHING.

I don’t think the media or any citizen in any continental monarchy would bat an eye if a monarch were to divorce but they are so uptight in the UK about that sort of thing. It’s hard to say how this would be handled.

  55. Christine says:

    Thank you for this explanation!

  56. jferber says:

To hell with the royal couple. I was pleased as punch to see Billie Jean King there! Of the three she is the only King (and queen, too, by God). Billie Jean King is such an icon and far more prestigious than Will and Kate. I didn’t recognize Martina Navratilova. She is also iconic. I remember a recent story that she made only a small percentage of what John McEnroe made as a tennis commentator.

  57. PIP says:

I am no Kate/Wills defender, but I am critiqued to the same level she is daily, with the “well intentioned “ people saying things about weight, etc. I would honestly like to see how some of you “well intentioned” people look, since you are so critical………

    • Maria says:

      Different situation.
How “well intentioned” was Kate when leaking stories about how her figure and complexion and style were so superior to Meghan’s?

If you’re taking the comments we make about these two taxpayer-funded layabouts personally and applying them to yourself, that’s a little misplaced….Pip (pa? Lol)

  58. Gk says:

Well we are not putting ourself out there in the public spotlight. We are not supported by public money so yeah we get to criticize.

  59. Rose says:

I like the white pumps. Could be the dress hem length and flare maybe throws things off a bit… but I like the dress at the same time. I don’t know, it’s not an amazing look but it’s cute enough and seasonally appropriate. I think she looks best when she wears bolder colors like this and not too detailed prints or really ornate patterns (or the peter pan collars). The hair, we all want her to go for a sophisticated bob right? Something different from the hair curtains… but oh well. At least the color is nice. I kinda feel bad for her sometimes. These photos really show the aging happening, which is just part of getting older, and I can imagine that it’s tough to see yourself in so many pictures. Is she a mean girl? Probably! (I’m pretty much team Sussex on most things) But is Kate a woman with insecurities about her looks? Also probably! And I think that’s where I feel some compassion.

    • Curious says:

we all aging. the thing is Catherine genetics is aging fast , she is only 39 but its confusing,i only seen pics. from her waist up she looks real thin. her face looks full. she stills wears clothes from 10 yrs ago. her arms looks strong. some pic posted she looks real tired and old for her age, then i see other pics from the same events and she looks ok for her age.

  60. LaraW” says:

Who the f-ck are all these Kate sympathizers coming out of the woodwork? She’s a petty, racist, piece of sh-t who got what she wanted, and now she’s getting what she deserves.

  61. Calibration says:

That pic of her looking daggers at Wills is pretty hilarious! That’s the evil eye if ever there was.

  62. Curious says:

William was never in love with Catherine. she hanged on for dear life. but he did marry her. with no love its easy to freeze her out. they playing a game on the world stage. William have no interest in her. now I wonder since when. they have 3 children so he had sex with her.. on the other hand Catherine is pitiful, throwing herself at a man giving him all powers over her and she accepted it . when a woman accept her husband to b is cheating on her, in the end she becomes his rag doll. use as he wishes, he is in power not her. all children she gave birth too belongs to the queen. so Catherine don’t have a chance in hell to have custody..

  63. Carolind says:

I saw them at the football last night. The cameras were on them once or twice unawares – not during the game but at the end of full time when people were stretching. They looked more normal than I have ever seen them. No smiles or fake “glances” but they did seem to be communicating normally. I would say George adores especially William. He was ecstatic when England scored and reaching for his father. Off camera he also hugged Kate. In case anyone says All George and No Charlotte, on Father’s Day when William gave a short message and George and Charlotte were with him, he stroked Charlotte’s hair the whole time – a bit creepy
Kate has looked more dour, both at Wimbledon and the football over the last week or two than I have ever seen her. She is reportedly only at the football to be with George when William is being introduced to dignitaries.

    • ModeratelyWealthy says:

Strangely, you came up with all the talking points expressed on the articles from yesterday Kaiser covered.

Not saying you are a bot, or claim that you are among these royalists that have been popping out here nowadays, just noting your comment is very on the mark for what the official narrative is.

BTW: if attending a football match is William´s job and he takes George, who is 8, should it be like any other family day at a regular company? It is not like George would need a minder. and it is not like Kate is not 1) George´s mother and 2) William´s wife. It is not strange that she goes along, but is so weird that an article has to explain she was there to mind George at all.

  64. Wallaby Jack. says:

It was NAIDOC week in Australia so a First Nations woman winning was the perfect way to end it.
First Nations history of Australia gets routinely erased by British people, who seem very deliberately ignorant of the fact that the nation has been inhabited for 60,000 years- and not a little over 200 as they want to believe.
Anyway, there was subtext in the goading of Ash by an audible portion of the crowd.

  65. Lesley says:

We know that W&K don’t read their briefing notes, William has boasted about it, so they probably wouldn’t read notes on each of the players. So here’s an idea, someone from the KP office should sit in the car with Kate and read the notes about the players out to her? That way something may stick and the winner would not be subjected to questions like “what’s the time in Australia”? I don’t know why their staff don’t do this already? It’s not like they would have a lot of work on, is it? They could spare the time?

  66. Eating Popcorn says:

I did not care for the white shoes with the green dress. It looked to 70’s to me.
