Prince Harry told people he wants Lilibet Diana to be christened in the UK

Royal baby

This is the pattern we’re going to be dealing with indefinitely: the British media will hype some date for which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex *must* return to the UK, and then the media will then hype all of the reasons why this visit will be a punishment, or make-or-break, or why Harry and Meghan need the Windsors and not the other way around. If that sounds psychotic, congrats, you are right. Another pattern we’ll probably need to get used to? If Harry and Meghan actually want to return for some reason, suddenly the Windsors and the British media will act like their upstarts begging for an audience with the Queen. Which is what the current story is about – following the big reunion of the fakakta statue unveiling on July 1st, the media determined that Harry and Meghan *should* come back in September for another event around this same Diana statue. But what if H&M do want to come back around that time… and they want to christen Lilibet Diana in the UK? What then?!?!

Harry and Meghan are planning for Lilibet to be christened at Windsor in front of the Queen, royal sources have told Richard Eden. They’ve accused the Queen of handing down ‘genetic pain and suffering’ and charged unnamed relations with racism, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are apparently eager to cling on to the perks of life in the Royal Family.

A royal source said Prince Harry and Meghan want a royal christening for their baby, Lilibet, held in the presence of the Queen. The California-based couple’s intentions are said to have been made clear during Harry’s visit to this country for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue earlier this month.

‘Harry told several people that they want to have Lili christened at Windsor, just like her brother,’ a royal source tells Eden Confidential. ‘They are happy to wait until circumstances allow.’

It would be Meghan’s first visit to Britain since the couple quit royal duties last year. Interestingly, six weeks after Lili’s birth, she has not yet been given the eighth place in the line of succession that she is due, according to the official royal website. It’s understood that the list will not be updated until after the christening. Lili would bump the Queen’s second son, Prince Andrew, into ninth place.

Lili will join the list as long as she is not baptised a Roman Catholic, as they are specifically excluded from succession to the throne. Although Meghan attended a Catholic high school, she was baptised and confirmed into the Church of England in a private ceremony at the Chapel Royal conducted by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. The intimate 45-minute service was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Chapel Royal in 2018 and was a closely-guarded secret with only a handful of royal aides involved. Meghan followed partly in the footsteps of the Duchess of Cambridge, who was baptised as an infant but had a private confirmation after her engagement to Prince William.

It’s not clear how enthusiastic the Royal Family will be.

[From The Daily Mail]

The Mail piece was a lot longer but it was just a rehash of two completely ridiculous dramas: one, the “we don’t know Archie’s godparents’ names” drama and two, the “Harry didn’t ask his grandmother’s permission for Lilibet’s name” drama. Enough. And for what it’s worth, Harry’s “genetic pain and suffering” was more about his father than his grandmother, although I’m not going to fight too hard about that, because I think Harry’s comments could easily be interpreted to include the whole bloody institution.

As for the idea that Harry wants to have Lili christened in the UK… it’s clear that he’s trying to set it up so that post-pandemic, he and Meghan will be able to pop into the UK as needed, for family events and visits with their charities and such. Like, he’s trying to normalize that kind of vibe of “we’re coming for 72 hours to see everyone and then we’re out.” In Harry’s mind, they’ll be able to maintain that kind of breeziness. Maybe they will. The commentators on Dusty Saltine Island always insist that there will be a shift when Charles becomes king. I still don’t know.

If they were planning on coming back in September the Wellchild event would be in September. Also the Queen wasnt even at Archie’s christening and that event and his was private. This is BS

    • PEARL GREY says:

Shhh! You’re making too much sense! But when has that ever gotten in the way of a good story? The British press will forever be conjuring up dates for Harry and Meghan to return to the UK, whether it sounds logical or not. This latest attempt is just to rile up the hate crowds with more claims of Harry and Meghan being “hypocrites” for “trashing” the “family” but wanting to use them for “royal perks” too.

Oh, and how is a royal christening a “perk” anyway?

      • Myra says:

I was thinking the same. How is a christening a “perk” of royal life? I imagine that for those belonging to the Church of England, christenings with family members present are open to them, as well. If the queen doesn’t want to attend, she can skip it like she skipped Archie’s christening and so can Charles and William.

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ Pearl Grey : I’m curious why they would want to come back to England for the christening. It could be done in California where I’m sure they could find a really nice Anglican (Church of England) church and with their US friends there. The BRF won’t come to California.

      • BooyahB!tches says:

The Queen also skipped the christening of some of Kate’s brood, 2 of them I believe. And the whole story of them wanting to come back for a christening is total, utter BS. There’s no reason H&M would ever want to do that; one exception would be that it will be the last grandchild the Queen will likely see from any of them, unless she lives long enough to see Beatrice’s…but Beatrice is a b!tch, and it’s likely H&M will do a double with Eugenie and Co., and get in before Beatrice, which would tip her useless scales.

    • clomo says:

I can’t believe he has a book coming out, this is going to cause a stir to say least.

  2. lalisa says:

It doesn’t make ANY sense to do a christening in the UK at all. We’re still in a pandemic which seems to be raging again due to the new delta strain. Cases have gone way up because of this strain in the UK recently. These RR need to give it a rest. If these assholes are going to lie, then don’t halfass it.

    • Truthiness says:

If my family had their own royal chapel I would want to use it for a christening! But certainly not in the pandemic. Since the Sussexes keep their family so private, there is no way to see if this is true.

  3. Nomegusta says:

…their royal source is the dark figure in the corner that speaks to them from the shadows. Those rota roaches are all lying demons.

    • taris says:

      TF?
so harry – in the 15 minutes he hung around the palace post the unveiling – found time to go around telling ‘people’ about his plans for the christening of the baby nobody’s even seen yet? weird considering harry’s been crystal clear about his deep mistrust of the institution.
it’s a rota fever dream that harry really really wants to find any excuse to return to the UK. and they’re using this fiction to wag their fingers at harry and meghan smdh.
*noone* actually knows what h+m are up to, or what any of their plans about anything are.
the british press are beyond desperate, it’s pathetic.

i don’t buy this ‘story’ at all.

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ Taris : it does sound like BS but it’s been picked up in Marie Claire which is usually a good source for Sussex info. So I don’t know what to think of it.

      • taris says:

sarah, US sites are more and more getting into the habit of peddling british tabloid nonsense (not necessarily the harsh anti-sussex stuff, but the ‘news’; they’re just as desperate for sussex updates, it seems). read the articles on there and you’ll see they link and site ‘sources’ via the daily mail.

        marie claire, cosmo, etc

      • Jaded says:

Even so-called legitimate news sources like CNN are running English tabloid drivel. And look at Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair — everything she writes about the BRF, especially the Sussexes, is nonsense. As soon as you read “a source close to…” you know it’s fiction. They’ll have Lili christened in a nice Anglican church in Montecito, After the way she was treated Meghan won’t be back in England unless it’s for something serious.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@taris, what you’re saying. The Daily Mail and others are definitely not good sources for true/accurate Sussex information. Marie Claire is no longer based in the US. Hearst Magazines sold it to a British publisher-we can probably expect more of the poorly sourced Sussex stories.
        https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/11/business/media/hearst-marie-claire-british-publisher.html

“but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are apparently eager to cling on to the perks of life in the Royal Family.”

Ha! H & M are so eager to cling on to the perks of life in the Royal Family they moved 5400+ miles to get away from life in the Royal Family and all the “perks”.

      • taris says:

yep yep yep … and some other US ‘celeb’ sites probably don’t intend harm against the sussexes – they just want their piece of them. they’ll report on anything coming out of the UK, but … they haven’t caught on to how the UK tabloids and their ‘sources’ work

      • PrincessK says:

Well l have heard other unrelated stories that they may be visiting the U.K. in September.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Here’s the real WTF….Good House Keeping magazine picked the story up from The Daily Fail and is running it online. I guess the Good House Keeping seal of approval has gone by the wayside.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@BayTampaBay, LOL…the seal of approval disappeared when they put Hyacinth Bucket on the cover back in April.

      • Lorelei says:

@Bay: Good Housekeeping?! What on earth!? I haven’t thought about it in years (my mom used to subscribe when I was little), but I didn’t even know they covered stuff like this, or anything to do with celebrity gossip.

      • BooyahB!tches says:

I’d be willing to bet that Meghan will never set foot on British soil again. So all these stories? Absolute BS.

  4. Snuffles says:

I doubt Harry is bringing those kids to the UK anytime soon. And I’m not even sure he’s pressed about Lili getting christened in the UK.

I do agree that they eventually want to be able to pop in and out to the UK when they want to. Whether it’s for business, charity or to visit friends and family.

  5. jbyrdku says:

She’ll probably be baptized there, but I think he’s dreaming if he thinks there will ever be any meaningful reconciliation with his dad or brother. I think he’ll always be on the outs and I don’t believe he really realizes it. They may fly in and out for 72 hour weekends, but he’ll never be welcomed back.

    • Smices says:

I don’t think he’s looking for reconciliation with those two. He seems to care about the Queen and maybe Eugenie. The rest he seems to avoid or just tolerate.

      • Fen says:

        He’s very close to Anne.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Fen – I have read the same thing too regarding Anne.

      • LMR says:

Anne who wouldn’t speak to him at Phillip’s funeral?
Anne who was nasty to his mother?
        I am surprised at that.

      • BooyahB!tches says:

If there is any chance of him and M being in the UK for a christening, it will be a double thing with Eugenie and Zara’s newest additions. He dislikes Beatrice, she’s an absolute snipey little b!tch, so September would see her being outside of that new baby christening circle, something Meghan may even support :) )

    • Merricat says:

Agreed, Smices. Lol. I think Harry is not interested in reconciliation as defined by the royal family. He’ll be welcomed by those he chooses to see, and I don’t think he’s bothered by those he doesn’t.

    • Jan says:

I’m sure he realizes it, he sent 90 minutes at the statue unveiling, that should tell you something, Charles ran to Scotland or somewhere again.
Harry is kind but contrary to popular belief he is not stupid.

    • MsIam says:

Um, Harry said his relationship with his brother is “space”. And he’s already spoken about how disappointed he is with his father. It seems like its his ” family” that doesn’t believe they are the ones on the outside and that Harry has a new life now. Well his family and the royal Rota.

    • Maria says:

LOL. Harry is not concerned with being welcomed back on any terms but his own, as others have said. The only ones who are “dreaming” are the ones who think this type of campaign is going to make him regret his decision at all. And yes, he realizes what the reality of the situation is – more than his dad and brother do.

    • VS says:

AND? welcome back to that place? he is the one lighting the fire under it, not Meghan!

You people talk as if there is something to envy over there. Economically, ….I should just stop. you must be a TROLL

    • equality says:

I can see him wanting the baptism to be where Archie’s was. Harry also has other family in the UK so he will likely want his aunts to be able to attend like they did for Archie. Although they seem pretty cool so I could see them traveling to the US when conditions are better.

    • Myra says:

If Harry cared about a reconciliation with the family, he wouldn’t have done the Oprah interview to begin with. He certainly wouldn’t have followed it up with another interview for his mental health series. Nothing in his actions or statements since January 2020 have hinted at looking for a reconciliation. In fact, it looked like he was practically running away from them. If Harry wanted to be in with the family, he wouldn’t have left in the first place, would he? I personally wouldn’t reconcile with anyone who put my spouse and children at risk. Going after someone’s loved ones is particularly malevolent.

      • nina says:

Really, so he should’ve taken the abuse that drove his wife to the brink of suicide, compared his son to a monkey, and never spoke out for the sake of family. He has every right to run away from that toxic cesspool. He has never said he wanted reconciliation with his family, that is a tabloid wet dream.

They don’t want to be called out for their toxic behavior then don’t do that crap. He did what any person who has healthy family relationships do, you call that shit out and hold them to account.

He has every right to seek care for his mental health, including exposing them. He should be commended for his bravery in doing what he did. F that family and their centuries of toxicity.

What a load of nonsense, he should not have spoken out or done the interviews for the sake of the family. Did you read what you wrote before you posted. Pfffft.

      • lanne says:

        @Nina, @myra agrees with you!

      • Myra says:

That’s correct, @lanne. Hell will freeze over before I side with the BRF. My argument is that Harry doesn’t care to reconcile with his family (which I agree with) based on his past actions and is obviously the case following today’s announcement. Harry isn’t looking for reconciliation, he is looking to set the record straight, as he should.

    • Ginger says:

I don’t think he is looking for forgiveness.
If you believe that then you believe the tabloids.

    • notasugarhere says:

What is this accusatory tone, that somehow Harry is the one ‘on the outs’ because of his behavior? The only ones in the wrong here are BRF and the courtiers. They’re on the wrong side of history and are fast becoming global punchlines.

Harry has said he hopes to repair the relationship with his father, basically if Charles can set aside his royal persona and just be a father. The one with his brother is ‘space’. I read that as Harry is done with William (and Kate) until they apologize for everything they’ve done to Meghan. Since that will never happen, I don’t see Harry looking to build back anything with William.

    • one of the Marys says:

I think he’s very aware of the cost of freedom. Family members who initiate such decisive moves know the deal.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

jbyrdku, I believe Harry and Meghan will visit the UK to see TQ, Eugenie and their friends. While there, they will visit the charities where they are patrons, because they haven’t forgotten those charities for a minute. I think Harry is in the process of accepting that his father and brother are not going to change. What can and has changed is how he reacts to them. Acceptance must be difficult to come to terms with, but he will. I think he’s well on the way to acceptance.

He doesn’t need their permission to be in the UK, so Harry & Meghan has total autonomy to make decisions when and how long they are there. I’m sure that really angers some people that they have no control over them.

  6. Smices says:

Lili is barely six weeks ok’d. Eugenie’s son was only recently going to be baptized and he was born back in February. IF this is true, I don’t think they’ll be returning until maybe late October/early November, to see how Covid pans out.

Also I’m not sure how the family’s enthusiasm is relevant, since they only seem to want the Queen there. It’s not like they’re coming for Christmas.

    • Amy Bee says:

If Harry and Meghan were going to be in the UK in October/November the Wellchild awards would not have been moved up to coincide with Harry’s visit for the statue unveiling. They’re not going to the UK for the rest of this year.

      • Ainsley7 says:

The wellchild awards isn’t a good indicator to use. The Diana statue unveiling was scheduled and it was confirmed that Harry could come then pretty far in advance. Which gave Wellchild the time to organize their awards. The possible event in September and LiLi’s christening have no confirmed dates. So, Wellchild would not have enough time to organize if they had chosen to wait.

    • notasugarhere says:

Eugenie postponed August’s christening because of COVID. Zara’s son may not have been christened yet either. The BRF may take their time with these. Unlike the Luxembourg royals, who try to christen children within the first few weeks.

      • equality says:

The Luxembourg royals are Catholic and their church believes in baptism for salvation. The C of E allows christening at any age.

      • Marivic says:

Is it possible to have three royal babies to be christened at the same time? This should be interesting.

  7. Amy Bee says:

Yeah, I don’t believe this story. If this was such a big scoop why wasn’t it published in the Mail on Sunday? Even if they were thinking about christening Lili in the UK, I’m sure the Palace’s poor reaction to her being named after the Queen put them off that idea.

    • taris says:

funny how the press were screeching about lili’s christening before she was even a month old (as part of their pressure campaign to get harry back to the UK), and *now* it conveniently turns out that harry was telling ‘people’ about said christening.

      this is BS.

  8. Over it says:

Until I hear from Harry or Meghan directly about anything regarding their lives, then I am going to return to my corner .
May I also say that it’s completely ridiculous that lili has to have a christening before she is given 8th in line. Like who cares? She is princess of America so yeah. Also can I ask Because I have no idea, did the keenbridges children have to all have their christening before their place in line was added?

    • Snuffles says:

I think Lili’s place in line is yet another thing they are withholding/holding over Harry’s head like a carrot out of spite. It’s the last thing Harry might theoretically want from that institution.

      • Humbugged says:

There is nothing to hold over him and the Gloucester’s grandkids are on the list for years and they are 1/4 Maori ,and P and Pcess of Kent grandkids are on there with there before the kids being Jewish through there mother .And there is now all the D of Kents kids/grandkids depite being Catholic

      • Sofia says:

@Humbugged: Not all of the Duke of Kent’s grandkids are in the line of succession. In fact the only ones who weren’t part of it were the Earl of St Andrews’ kids (except the youngest) because he married a Catholic and the older two are Catholics.

The Earl has been restored now because the rules changed which means marrying a Catholic doesn’t kick you out but being a Catholic (again, like his older two are) means you’re still out, hence why he’s part of the line but 2/3 kids of his aren’t.

      • teecee says:

There is a difference between royal relatives who no one knows by name or sight vs Diana’s grandkids. One of the major objections these racists have is how visible the new black royals will be, not only due to the close familial connection to future king Charles and superstar Diana, but also because of their own parents’ star power and likely growing stature in both the tech and entertainment industries. I have no doubt they would be less obvious in their bigotry to distant relations with whom they rarely interact and are never obligated to show deference nor respect.

      • Humbugged says:

No they are all back in but they have to convert to take the throne

      • Sofia says:

@Humbugged: No they are not. Lord Downpatrick and his sister Lady Marina have no place in the line of succession. Their father and younger sister do because being Catholic excludes you from being in the line of succession no matter how far away from it you are.

    • L4Frimaire says:

This right here. They haven’t mentioned or confirmed anything, the baby is still very young and this Delta variant is scary and UK is ground zero. I’m so anxious about my under 12 not having access to a vaccine before school starting. The press over there are always speculating on the Sussexes, esp. Meghan going back there but it’s ridiculous. Eugenia just had to cancel her baby’s christening due to a guest having Covid. There are Anglican priests in the US who can christen their baby and Zoom still exists.

    • equality says:

August has already been added and he hasn’t been christened yet so just more BS and no good reason to have not added Lili, especially since it has lead to idiots on SM speculating about surrogates. You have to wonder if Harry’s family has any feeling for him at all.

      • notasugarhere says:

Zara’s son has been added too, and he hasn’t been christened yet either.

      • Nic919 says:

Meghan converted to Church of England so there is no reason not to add Lili to the succession, especially if they have already done so for other non baptized great grandchildren like August and Zara’s son. The article brings up attending catholic school as if she is Catholic. She isn’t and seeing as Archie is already baptized in the C of E, there is no reason not to expect that they won’t do it for Lili.

This difference in treatment is more petty nonsense.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Nic919 – Do the people in the UK not realize that many non-Catholics attend Catholic Schools in the USA both for K-12 education and college/university?

      • Nic919 says:

Seeing as they banned Catholics from high level civil service jobs in England for centuries, I am going to guess that they know few Catholics. I went to Catholic school in Canada and here as with the US, you do not need to be Catholic to attend Catholic high school, especially because in many provinces the Catholic schools are funded by the government.

    • Jeremy says:

She had her place in line the day she is born. She has to be “in communion with the COE” to be Queen but she had the spot in line from day one. Its just that website is v v slow to update and they often “batch” the babies and update multiple at once. Unless Beatrice’s baby shows up I don’t think there is anything nefarious going on

      • HeatherC says:

Beatrice’s son is already on the website line of succession as is Zara’s youngest.

      • Feeshalori says:

Are you referring to Eugenie’s son? Those sisters do get mixed up!😆

      • HeatherC says:

Feeshalori I definitely was! Oops! thanks for the save. Either way, Beatrice’s kid will be added before they’ve even left the hospital.

  9. Oh_Hey says:

This sounds like more fanfic. I’ll give the reporters that Harry may want Lili to have a christening that’s somewhat like Archie’s so there’s no differences between kids but that doesn’t have involve most of the family and RR need not even know unless PWT or Chaz or Keeny boots leaks it.

Just more foolery and I’ll believe this when the Sussex’s actually rock up to Windsor for it.

  10. Jan says:

Please, the Queen wasn’t at Archie’s christening, the word was Meghan knew the Queen would be away and was accommodating her American friends.
They’re Episcopal churches in California, I would not be surprised if Lili was baptize at the Super church, Doria and Oprah attends.
They’re hedging their bets, by saying they’re happy to wait until Circumstances allow, by then Lili will be talking, because Covid-19 is not going anywhere.
I saw a wild story that Oprah dumped Gale King and Doria was her best friend now, because someone saw Doria leaving Oprah’s house.

    • Lady D says:

What’s a super church? Is it the size of the congregation or building, best sermons in the country, the most miracles per capita, raise the most for charity, or best at helping the downtrodden? Honestly curious, I’ve never heard the term, what is a super church?

      • AmelieOriginal says:

I think he/she means megachurch which is basically a huge amphitheater/stadium like church that can accommodate up to 2000-5000 people depending on capacity. They tend to be Protestant or Evangelical. They are very popular in some US states but I read there are megachurches in some other countries outside the US too. You can read about them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megachurch

I am not a fan of church in general, having been forced to attend Sunday mass as a kid and I’m especially wary of megachurches but to each their own!

      • Lady D says:

Thank you AmelieOriginal. I saw one of those churches on TV once. It had the ‘I see dead people’ kid as a guest sermonizer(?) I was flabbergasted at the amount of people in that church. I was also blown away by a somewhat local church spending $3 mill on a new building. Religion has changed since I was a kid.

    • Jaded says:

Lili will not be christened in a megachurch. In fact we won’t know when she’s christened until after the fact, that’s how the Sussexes roll. Nor will it be attended by hundreds of stars and guests either, it will be a quiet, small celebration in a local Anglican church.

    • Jan says:

      @AmelieOriginal, thank you.

  11. Sofia says:

Even if he wants to (and honestly I can see why. H&M separate the family from the institution and a christening is a family event for them, not an institutional one), delta variant cases are on the rise. As are deaths. Travelling in those circumstances with a 2 year old and a few months old baby isn’t ideal. It’s either waiting for a while or getting her christened in the US.

  12. Scorpion says:

Richard Kay got this from a blind submitted to Deuxmoi. Corona cases have just spiked in the UK, I don’t think they are visiting anytime soon. I foresee the UK in a lockdown by September at this rate….

    • Harper says:

I saw it on DeuxMoi too. The stories tips have dried up for Richard Kay, haven’t they? I’m wondering which Windsor is submitting to DM… my money is on Beatrice or Fergie, who hear stuff from Eugenie.

    • Ginger says:

I saw that too. Anyone can’t post “tips” there. It’s not reliable at all. Just proof they have nothing on the Sussex’s.

When Lilli gets christened I doubt the public will know. They no longer work for the RF so they can keep events like this private.

    • notasugarhere says:

Those blinds are manufactured by the haters on tumblr and LSA. They write them together on the forum, then submit them to DeuxMoi and CDAN.

    • BayTampaBay says:

I heard the Deuxmoi was worse then the DataLounge.

  13. Merricat says:

Lol all day. “Royal sources” don’t know anything about Harry and Meghan’s plans. Until they say so themselves, I don’t believe any of it.

    • taris says:

the british media are starving. it’s so palpable.

what’s even more annoying is seeing american sites peddle tabloid nonsense.
      sigh…

  14. Boxy Lady says:

I don’t know if it’s different in the UK but in the US, you don’t actually have to be Catholic in order to attend a Catholic high school or primary school. In the US, Catholic schools are private and you pay a tuition. The schools are known for giving a high level education so there are a number of non-Catholics who are willing to pay for that for their children.

    • equality says:

Yes. Meghan’s family was not Catholic according to more reliable sources. She just attended a Catholic school. Notice that they word it in the article only as she “attended” a Catholic school. It’s just wordplay to try to insinuate.

      • Humbugged says:

Yes she was episcopalian but converted to anglican before she got married

      • aftershocks says:

@Humbugged, Meghan has never been Episcopalian. Her father was raised Episcopalian, but there’s no evidence he practiced as an adult. Doria’s father, Alvin Ragland, was a Baptist minister. However, Meghan’s parents (Doria & Thomas) were married at a Self-Improvement Temple in L.A., connected to Hindu and Buddhist practices, where Doria was a member.

Thus, Meghan has a very eclectic spiritual background. She was raised Protestant by a mother who has an interest in Buddhist and Hindu philosophies, and she received some childhood nurturing by a father who had an Episcopalian upbringing. She attended Catholic schools, and was very influenced by her teachers who were nuns.

Meghan’s first husband is Jewish, and she has several close friends who are Jewish, as well as a few who practice Hinduism, and others who are Protestant, in addition to a friend whose religion is Jehovah’s Witness. She also has close friends who are Catholic. Ultimately, of course, Meghan converted to Anglicanism, and was baptized in the Church of England prior to marrying Prince Harry.

    • harla says:

I attended a Catholic middle school and high school but was raised Baptist. As you said, the Catholic schools in the area I lived offered a higher standard of education then the public schools. We still attended Masses on occasion and I was usually the student selected to do the Bible reading during the service.

  15. Lucylee says:

Visits to that island cost money that comes out of the Sussex pocket. They will not be flying their family back and forth for frivolous events concocted by the Royal Rota.
The RR may have been able to influence if they were working part-time. Lili can be christened at any time. She may be too big for the christening gown but, perhaps they need to ditch that gown and the replica because it has bad karma.

    • aftershocks says:

LOL, I don’t think the christening gown has bad karma, @LucyLee. It’s the institution and its bloody history that has a huge fakakta load of bad karma, sadly. Hopefully, this fearsome karma will settle its sites on the targets who most need a reckoning and a comeuppance.

But yeah, I feel you. I get your drift. Still, ultimately, Meghan & Harry will make the decisions they prefer regarding their children’s lives.

  16. Tom says:

Use the christening to amplify a message of change. Do it in the U.S. and ask the Reverend Dr. William Barber and Reverend Al Sharpton to officiate. Televise it and allow the two officiants 15 minutes to preach on the topic of their choosing.

    • Jan says:

I though a christening was a religious event.
Funny, you chose two black men that can get all the air time they want, on any network.
If they had a private christening for their first child, why would their broadcast their second child’s.
They can christen their child anywhere they choose, it’s up to them.

      • Tom says:

I chose two great voices of equality. My suggestion would amplify their messages to people who ordinarily don’t pay attention.

    • Jeremy says:

The Reverend Al Sharpton is a Baptist, if Lili was christened by him then she would not be in communion with the COE anymore and would be excluded from the line of succession. So idk why they would do that to her

      • notasugarhere says:

You don’t have to be ‘in communion’ with the COE to be in the line of succession to the UK throne; you just aren’t allowed to be Catholic. The Norwegian and Swedish royals are in the in top 100 or so in the line, and they’re not christened in the Church of England.

      • SnoodleDumpling says:

You have to be in communion with the CoE to take the throne, but you’re only excluded from the line of succession if you’re Catholic. They could raise that child Hindu and it wouldn’t change her spot in line.

      • BooyahB!tches says:

@SnoodleDumpling, great idea: raise them Hindu! :) Archie can be renamed Archana, which means worship of the Lord, and Lili can be Leela, which means the moods and pastimes of the Lord. There you go. Done :)

    • Maria says:

If they did anything like this (not convinced it would be good for them to put her christening in a political spotlight like that, more for her sake than anything else) it would be better to have Reverend Curry back. His speech at their wedding was lovely and it would send the right message to those royals who smirked while he talked.

      • equality says:

He also is the one who had the best response when asked about the RF conflict. His answer was more in line from what you expect from a Man of God than the Archbishop’s political answer.

      • booboocita says:

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Bring back Rev. Curry for the baptism. Not only is he a wonderful, gracious man, and a terrific orator, but it would add a note of continuity — first the wedding, then the christening.

      • Maria says:

Keep in mind I’m sure they will not go this route, lol. It will be private, probably even more so than Archie’s. But IF they did, Rev. Curry would be a lovely choice.

      • aftershocks says:

FWIW, It was the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby’s idea to invite the head of the Episcopal Church of America, Bishop Curry, to give the royal wedding address. Neither Meghan nor Harry had ever met Curry prior to the day of their wedding. I doubt they have been in close contact with him since.

In addition, it was Prince Charles’s suggestion to have ministers from different denominations (including Greek Orthodox, Hebrew, etc.) participate in M&H’s royal wedding. That may be what inspired Archbishop Welby to invite Bishop Curry. This led to some people thinking Meghan knew Curry beforehand, especially since he is based in Chicago where she attended Northwestern. But that’s not the case. Plus, Meghan was never Episcopalian.

For those who enjoyed Curry at the royal wedding, you may be interested in reading his book (written after his participation in the royal wedding). It’s entitled, The Power of Love. Not about Meghan and Harry, though. It’s an elaboration on the theme of love as found in Scripture, which Curry explored in his stimulating, yet over long wedding address (which I thought was more suited to an Easter Sunday sermon).

Albeit, many fans of M&H loved Curry’s offering. I wish he had focused more on The Song of Solomon, beyond the passage selected by M&H that was recited by Diana’s sister Jane. For me, the Kingdom choir was the bomb and the best highlight; in addition to the fabulous violinist; Meghan walking down the aisle; the way Harry looked so adoringly at Meghan throughout; and the ecstatic, cloud-nine happiness they both embodied.

Sigh… so much unconscionable shizz has happened to M&H since then. It’s a blessing how strong and deep their love is, and how much their bond has grown through all the vicious opposition and smear campaigns against them.

    • L4frimaire says:

There are many Anglican/Episcopal clergy in the US who can christen their baby, nor does it have to be an “ event” with the likes of Al Sharpton. What is that all about? It seems like the tabloids aren’t the only ones not quite getting that they are private citizens who don’t have to tell us everything they do.

      • Jaded says:

IKR? Why are people suggesting they’ll turn the christening into a televised 3-ring circus with Barber and Sharpton and Oprah and god knows who else? Honestly, I think CB is attracting more and more trolls these days who actually believe all the crap they read on the Fail.

      • Maria says:

I don’t think Tom thinks they will; just that it’s an opportunity in his eyes.
        They won’t, of course.

      • BayTampaBay says:

        Tom who????

      • Maria says:

The commenter Tom who originated this thread.

      • Lorelei says:

Yeah I definitely read his comment as tongue-in-cheek because it’s not something that would ever actually happen.

  17. Mina_Esq says:

These “reporters” sat down and were like, “will we accuse them of trying to cling onto perks of royal life by wanting a royal Christening, or shall we accuse Meghan of forcing her will onto poor Harry and breaking the Queen’s heart by not wanting a royal Christening? “ They are just guessing.

    • taris says:

      it’s absurd.
and how exactly is baptising a baby in a 100yr old gown an actual ‘perk’? these people have worms in their brains.

      • HeatherC says:

It’s not even the 100 year old gown. Everyone has been using a replica for years I think, so it’s like a 10 year old replica of a 100 year old gown

      • Mina_Esq says:

Lol right? Like, what’s the perk? Harry wanting to involve his family in his child’s life is not a “royal perk”. It’s basic human need for a connection. These people disgust me.

      • notasugarhere says:

They haven’t used the original gown since Lady Louise.

      • L4frimaire says:

They can FedEx it or have another replica made if it’s so important she be in that gown.

      • Christine says:

Exactly, Taris. Also, whoever the source is for this clearly has no children, because flying transatlantically from California with an infant and toddler is not so much perk as pure torture.

      • aftershocks says:

I completely agree with @L4frimaire’s and @Mina_Esq’s comments in this thread. Plus, right on to what @Taris said:
        “it’s absurd.
and how exactly is baptising a baby in a 100yr old gown an actual ‘perk’? these people have worms in their brains.”

Exactly! None of us will know M&H’s desires and preferences regarding Lili Diana’s christening, until publicly revealed. And most likely, all the details will NOT be revealed. The public will be lucky if a picture is ever released after a future christening.

With COVID still around, who knows when a christening might take place anyway? Rotten rota are just perpetually pressed and reaching to create any fiction for Sussex clickbait. They lost their moneybags due to their vile over-reaching in the first place! And now they’re bitter, salty, and constantly crying in their tea.

    • equality says:

These are the same people who will whine about breaking tradition and protocol and breaking the Queen’s heart if Lili is christened outside the UK.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Why???? QEII did not attend Archie’s or Louis’ christening, so how will this break her heart.

I really wish the Daily Fail would explain in detail.

      • Lorelei says:

They can’t explain in detail because they know it’s BS that they just pulled out of their own asses.

      • Humbugged says:

Beacuase of when the chistening happened ? Not sure about Louis but with Archie it was Holyrood Week with events planned years before and they picked the best time for her friends to make it their ,and the same reason that Zara got married at the Canongate Kirk when neither her or her husband are Kirk members

  18. Kkat says:

There are tons of Angelican/ Episcopal churches in California, my kids were both christened in one.
2 of their godparents are in England and couldn’t attend at the time

So M and H can do it, have English people as godparents and no one from there has to come.

  19. ABritGuest says:

The rota are desperate for Meghan & the kids to be back in England. Sounds like they’ve dropped that Diana statute part 2 party & moved on to the christening as means to get them to England.

It’s funny they chased away their money maker who even Richard Palmer used to note would acknowledge the rota & help them get their shots. If it wasnt for the abuse there probably would have been great content of Archie& Lili on Sussex Royal. They did it to themselves.

Elizabeth wasn’t there at Archie (or Louis’) christening so if they do one in the U.K. & she attends the cynical part of me thinks this would be to help the ‘we are very much not a racist family’ PR.

It’s weird they claim that Lili won’t be added to line of succession until she’s christened. August & Lucas are already listed on the royal family’s website & seems like August’ christening was cancelled & not had word Lucas has been christened. A few articles have mentioned her absence on the website so wonder how long it will take them to fix it or is this deliberate? I do wonder if this apparent delay & the fuss over her name (when pretty much every great granddaughter features Liz in her name) is because they are waiting to see Lili’s skin tone.

I agree with posters that U.K. covid cases are rising & so not sure I see them travelling to U.K. this year but we’ll see.

    • aftershocks says:

      @AbritGuest said:
“It’s funny they chased away their money maker who even Richard Palmer used to note would acknowledge the rota & help them get their shots. If it wasnt for the abuse there probably would have been great content of Archie& Lili on Sussex Royal. They did it to themselves.”

Right on AbritGuest. Preach! My thoughts exactly. I am so mad too, as a fan of the Sussexes, that the grey men, rota rats and jealous royal family members caused this entire situation. M&H bent over backwards to do everything they could to remain working royals within a system Harry knew needed changing. Harry talked about the fact that the monarchy had to be modernized, before he ever met Meghan. So clearly there were discussions he’d had about the need for change, with the Queen and with his father and his brother.

Bottom line, everyone in the firm knows Harry is the bright light with the magnetic personality and the forward-thinking vision to carry the monarchy forward! Meanwhile they put up with, massaged and enabled the freakin’, raging, temperamental ‘other brother’ whom they all know is unsuited to inherit the crown. British aristocratic and monarchic patriarchal system is exposed and is imploding, as we speak.

These cowardly jerks (Brit monarchy and Brit media) have always known how much they need Harry. But they took him for granted, and used him as a perennial scapegoat. And then they disrespected the love of his life and proceeded to use and abuse them both, figuring that M&H would have no choice but to take it. Or better yet, to crumble and split up as a couple. F that bs. M&H have only grown closer and stronger in their love.

Rotten rota and royal family never envisioned losing Harry. And even having lost Harry and his amazing wife, whom they continue to learn from and to copy relentlessly, these salty fools think they can get away with continuing to smear, to gaslight and abuse the Sussexes. They won’t apologize and they won’t stand-down. As a result, we all miss out on M&H being able to be more open and sharing re their private lives. That’s off the table now. The Sussexes have to protect their marriage and their children from the jealousy, the racist hate, and the harmful nonsense.

  20. MellyMel says:

Yeah…not buying this. It sounds like some made up story by the RR cause they have nothing new to talk about in regards to H&M. I doubt they’ll be back anytime this year, especially as Covid cases are going back up.

  21. Becks1 says:

I actually think they may want her christened in the UK so that her christening is similar to Archie’s, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to go to the UK in September. They can have her christened in the US and then have a second ceremony in the UK at a later date bc of the rise in cases. It’s like people forget about the pandemic.

  22. girl_ninja says:

Lies. Lies. Lies and more lies.

Queen wasn’t even at Prince Archie’s christening so why is it of the utmost for her to at baby LiliDiana?

Also note that the Royal page has yet add Lilibet in the line of succession. They don’t even acknowledge her there. The DM is FULL of s**t and dying for clicks.

    • Humbugged says:

Because they picked Scotland Week for the Christening and they have events picked years before

  23. Rage123 says:

Their baby Christening is not the place for AL Sharpton to come looking for publicity, he’s got enough of that at MSNBC.

  24. aquarius64 says:

Lili can be christened in the US by an Episcopalian minister. I wouldn’t be surprised when the queen visited Harry at Frogmore she handed off the royal christening gown to Harry for the baptism. The Queen and Eugenie can zoom.

  25. TeamAwesome says:

I can absolutely see Harry wanting the christening to be in the same place, using the same fount and dress as the rest of the family because he strikes me as being sentimental like that. However, I would LOVE for Bishop Curry, who preached at their wedding, to baptize her into the Anglican Communion. Heck, Bishop Andrus, the current bishop of California who used to be in my state and whom I know to be a lovely warrior for social justice, could do it. The Episcopal Church welcomes you Sussexes!

  26. TheAnonymousPimpernel says:

My COVID source told me the only one traveling between LA and England is Delta Variant.

  27. Catherine says:

What Harry and Meghan have made clear is that they will continue their philanthropic work including in the UK. They have continued through zoom calls, video etc. to give support to UK based initiatives. There has been no confirmation from them with regard to the called “family events” ie. trooping, jubilee etc. All that talk has been speculation from the carnival. Given the pandemic it’s unlikely they are planning any trips soon with the children especially with COVID variants on the rise. As other commentors have pointed out the Well Child event was moved from September to ensure Harry’s presence. I think this story came out for four reasons: (1) the H&M might come in Sept. story for a second statue party flopped. And given the spike in variants it’s unlikely they could plan something large for September (2) they are trying to come up with an excuse for LiliDiana not being added to the line of succession and they are using the christening. Except it’s a lie. Zara and Eugenie’s sons have already been added and they haven’t been christened. Also, Zara’s daughters were almost a year old before they were christened but the succession list was updated long before that (3) after no access, no info and no pictures for LiliDiana’s birth. They are hoping for something for the christening. But the fact is H&M are under no obligation to provide any info at this point. (4) they want to use this as example of H&M trying to have it both ways. Except that is another lie. Most of the down the line non working royals had “royal” christenings. And people pay no attention so it’s not some great perk and the chapel is the Queen’s private chapel at Windsor. IMO. H&M will christen LiliDiana in the UK but they won’t make a special trip to do so. It will take place when they are in the UK for an extended trip to reconnect with their charities.

  28. LMR says:

So the BM fabricating a story, or did Harry perhaps float this idea amongst folks in the UK to determine if they will leak on him or not? This could have been a test. Of Chuck perhaps?

  29. Bettyrose says:

Forgive me for being somewhat ignorant about this but isn’t the Episcopal church the American offshoot of the Church of England? I get that finding an appropriatechurch in the US isn’t the issue but for some reason I remember leaning that.

  30. SexyK says:

I don’t believe this story at all but wouldn’t it be funny if they had the christening in the UK and Charles & William & Kate were not invited?

    • Lorelei says:

I’m petty in that way (toward people who deserve it, like Chuck and Bill) so I would love if Harry did things like that 😂

Unfortunately, both Harry and Meghan are better people than I am, so I doubt we’ll see any petty little passive-aggressive moves from them toward the family. But if they ever snapped, I would enjoy it SO much!

In all seriousness, though, I think that given the circumstances, Harry would be well within his rights to want the christening at Windsor but to not want Kate there.
Meghan told us herself that the “Meghan made Kate cry!” story going uncorrected was the beginning of the worst of it for her (IIRC; I haven’t watched the Oprah interview since the night it aired, but I could swear she said something like that?).
So I wouldn’t even think it was petty if Harry didn’t want Kate there, I’d think it was reasonable — but I’m sure Meghan would never allow such a thing. She’ll always take the high road. Which is better for her but worse for people like us who want to see the petty, lol.

  31. ModeratelyWealthy says:

Meghan is not catholic. They are just implying they are waiting for the christening and giving this ( if Lili is catholic) as a reason just to preemptively explain why her name was not included into the list of succession

Lili is not there because they are yet to receive her picture, they must make sure her skin tone is acceptable, that is the reason.

If Lili looks like Meghan, Charles and William will forbid her to come close the royal jewels, will start leaking Lili has fired nanies, has screamed at sitters and has forbidden the Queen from ever using her name again…

    • ElleV says:

this is such a zany new twist – Meghan is a secret Papist and Lili is a tiny Guy Fawkes in waiting! lololol

      • bettyrose says:

@ElleV – It is sort of fascinating to wonder what relationship Lili and Archie will have with the RF down the road. They’ll probably be in their twenties/thirties when the monarchy transitions from Charles to William and they’ll likely have the American media at their command for sharing opinions.

      • booboocita says:

Cool! Let’s hope Lili is christened on November 5th! “Remember, remember, the fifth of November, the gunpower treason and plot …”

  33. Rapunzel says:

I wonder if Harry did say something to Wills as a test to see if Willileaks is still leaking.

Is this leak Wills paying the RR for the weak reception he and happy family has been getting?

  34. J ferber says:

Let the Sussexes invite whomever they want to California. I’m sure Diana’s sisters and perhaps her brother will come. The RF, though immovable in so many ways, CAN take a plane to Cali, for God’s sake. And I hope Oprah, Gail, Serena and Tyler will be there as well.

  35. tamsin says:

I can imagine that Harry might want his daughter to be christened in the Church of England as he, Archie, and even Meghan are.

this was my only takeaway from this article too! absolutely hilarious that they have to dig that deep into the great grudges of British history to find something to criticize

also, last time i checked the only thing catholic schools produce is atheists

      • Humbugged says:

No but the last Catholic King made it a habit of chopping peoples ears of for going to Protestant services. And why should a Catholic get to decide the decisions of another religion . So Charles should get to be nominated for the Papacy then ?

Great Grudges of British History would be a terrific idea for a tv series!

      • Thirtynine says:

No, not always. Don’t forget Meghan.

    • Irene says:

Especially when you consider the reason the Church of England was created – so that Henry VIII could marry his pregnant mistress.

The Catholic Church refused to grant Henry a divorce so he created the CoE. That was the ONLY reason. I always laugh at this whenever it comes up.

      • Maria says:

Interestingly, Henry broke with Rome but the Church of England becoming Anglican was during the Elizabethan Settlement. Henry very much considered himself a Catholic and maintained Catholic practices.
Even then, Catholics were only banned from the succession because they had an entire Civil War about it. It didn’t happen until the late 1600′s.

  37. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I just don’t have a good feeling about them bringing the kids to the UK. Let them visit as adults and make up their mind then. I know Harry is trying to maintain his relationship with his grandmother but I don’t put it past these people to do something that will damage those kids.

    • lanne says:

I don’t trust them either. If they could get away with dragging Harry back to the UK and holding him there against his will, they would. If we start hearing stories about their “fear of Harry’s mental state,” then all bets are off. Harry may love his family, but he should never trust those people ever again.

  38. Lunasf17 says:

Both the BRF and the church are outdated institutions that serve not purpose except to leech off of others.

This should no be suprising, Prince Harry grew up steeped in traditional rituals, that had been his familiar, his sense of belonging. The rituals surrounding birth and other milestones tend to be culturally constant, I noticed that he asked specifically that the Queen attend. This is about his respect and love for his grandmother.
Since he did not leave nirvana, he would not consider the term exile relevant, to be fair, he seems happy and the other players continue to behave as unrequited lovers.

    • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

Look at the current media and all the criticism they’re getting. Can you blame them?

  42. SusanRagain says:

I call baloney on this headline.
I think somebody is trying to stir things up.
Why would Harry want to come back to the UK?
I could see if H&M wanted to hop over for a private family visit to show off the kids to TQ, she is not getting any younger after all.

If the damn vultures in the press would back off maybe Harry and family could have a private family visit. Which IMO, would be nice.
The Queen has had a pretty rough year, as we all have had.

    Let H&M be themselves.
Charles is pretty much Prince Regent, let him and William get to work on The Firm.
William and Kate think they are the top dogs..Oh, really?
    Get to work!
It’s beyond me how The Firm seems to think TC, Charles, Mrs. Charles and PAnne can keep doing the heavy lifting. BS! They are all past or near 70.
W&K not even 40, get to work. Dang.

  43. PrincessK says:

Hold on tight folks! Another story has just broken. Harry has announced that his memoir will be coming out next year. The media will now go to town over this, as if he is the first royal to write a book. So awful so called royal biographers can write books about Harry but he can’t write a book about his own life. Apparently he is getting a lip smacking cool 20 million, which in view of the enormous amount of money he will need over the years to keep his family safe is not that huge. The media are jumping on this claim that they wanted privacy….Harry and Meghan never said that they wanted to lead completely private lives.
