Teen Mom 2’s Kailyn Lowry, who is antivax, got covid after a trip – again

We are in the second year of the pandemic and instead of life getting better it would seem every damn week a new variant pops up. Much of that is due to people not masking up, dumb ass politicians putting us at risk, and folks who have access to a life saving vaccine stubbornly refusing to get it. This may be the case for Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry. Kailyn has been vocal about being antivax and not vaccinating her children and it’s assumed she’s not vaccinated. Kailyn took her four children to the Dominican Republic on vacation and when they returned to the States, the entire family tested positive for COVID. This is Kailyn’s second time contracting the virus. Even worse, Kailyn gave the virus to her Baby Mamas No Drama podcast co-host, Vee, who then gave it to her spouse, Jo Rivera, who has been fully vaccinated but ended up with a breakthrough case of COVID (updated, Oya). Below are a few more details from People:

“For those of you guys listening who don’t know, Vee and I have COVID,” Lowry told listeners at the beginning of the episode.

The reality star said that, though her family had tested negative while on vacation and after returning, but she began feeling sick a few days later.

“I knew because I felt like s— all week,” said Lowry of her diagnosis. “Once I lost my taste and my smell, I knew what it was. I knew.”

Rivera said she suspected she caught it from Lowry after the two recorded their podcast last week. Lowry apologized for coming in contact with her while she was positive, adding: “I would not have been around people if I knew I had COVID, but I tested negative twice.”

Lowry said all four of her sons — Isaac, 10, Lincoln, 7, and Lux Russell, 3, and Creed, 1 — have tested positive, but they are all asymptomatic. Lowry’s ex Javi Marroquin, with whom she shares Lincoln, also tested positive.

“I don’t even know how this happened,” she added.

This isn’t the first time that Lowry has contracted COVID-19, she revealed during Tuesday’s podcast episode. She previously tested positive after a trip to Iceland last year, and her son Lincoln also caught the virus in March, she said.

Meanwhile Rivera, who is married to Lowry’s ex and Isaac’s father Jo Rivera, said she is “miserable” at home having to quarantine from the rest of her family but is “grateful that I don’t have these crazy symptoms and didn’t end up in the hospital.”

“I am 100% vaccinated, so that could have helped me,” Rivera said.

[From People]

Lord help with this one. Big sigh. I get extremely irritated with people not wanting to get vaccinated. I understand the skepticism at the beginning. I was skeptical because I did not know much about the process. But after doing my research I understood getting vaccinated was the best option. But I become absolutely livid when anti-vaxers are parents put children and vulnerable people in danger. COVID doesn’t give a damn, she is wrecking havoc everywhere. I have seen people tweet about 11 month old babies contracting the virus. It is irresponsible at the very least. Getting the vaccine also protects those you work with. If I were Vee I would refuse to work with Kailyn until she got vaccinated. No way in hell would I jeopardize my health for someone being ridiculous. The other issue I am having with Kailyn being irresponsible is the fact that this is her second time contracting the virus, so I don’t get her reluctance. I am hoping that Kailyn gets some sense and gets vaccinated and that she, her family and her co-host have a speedy recovery.

Zero sympathy for her and people like her. I’m just sorry for the vulnerable people whose lives they’re putting at risk.

    • Shanaynay says:

      Agreed!!!!

    • Ariel says:

There should be criminal charges, if she passes it on to someone who dies, she should be charged with criminally negligent homicide, because that is what the facts support.
These idiots all about their “personal freedom” not concept or recognition of personal responsibility, or responsibility to not murder their fellow humans.
      I am disgusted.
At least every time one dies (usually regretful about their dumba** vaccine choice) there’s one less of them making our world a worse, more dangerous, more economically shaky world.

  2. BusyLizzy says:

    COVIDIOT, table for one.

    • Eleonor says:

      YES.
I am sorry for those who had to treat her, and those who are infected because of her.
And the fact she can travel wherever the hell she wants spreading the Covid it’s infuriating.

      • Amy Too says:

Apparently she had a friend over right after the trip, so that person might be infected. She sent one of her kids to stay with their dad because she thought the dad and his family couldn’t get sick again since they already had covid. Even though she and her kids are sick again after already having had covid. That dad is now positive. She did the podcast with her cohost who is now positive. That cohost went to a water park before she knew she was positive. And I’m pretty sure she filmed with MTV so who knows if she infected the crew and her producers. And I’m assuming she flew back from the DR, and some of her kids are young enough to not have to wear masks and they’re positive now so who knows who they infected on the plane. It just seems so reckless to me. Why would you travel in the first place as 5 unvaccinated people, 4 of them children, 1 of them a literal infant, when Delta has been infecting young people and babies so much more than original covid? And if you somehow felt you HAD TO go on vacation like this, why not quarantine for a few days afterwards?

She said she had been tested a couple of times at the resort but that she was suspicious of those tests because they don’t apparently don’t swab your nose very well. The idea being (according to her) that they don’t want anyone to test positive and have to go home and lose that money, so they just test in an inadequate way. So… if you’re already suspicious of those tests and you think that there’s no way they were accurate, then why were you relying on the fact that those tests were negative as an excuse to keep hanging out with everyone you know? She really created a mini super spreader event.

      • K-Peace says:

She absolutely disgusts me. The part about all of this that infuriated me is that apparently she & Vee were laughing, joking, & giggling on their podcast about how, apparently, it’s just SO FUNNY how they have Covid. (And undoubtedly infected TONS of people while flitting about behaving recklessly & selfishly.) Making jokes about how oh its just so funny that they have “cooties”. Jokes about being Covid superspreaders. I just have no words for how much it disgusts me how they’re laughing about a disease that has killed millions of people. I hope their podcast is swiftly canceled.

  3. Amy Too says:

Her cohost is Vee. Vee is married to Kailyn’s ex Jo.

  4. Billie says:

If she can’t figure out condoms, she won’t understand vaccines.

  5. Sunnydaze says:

I’m so furious with this I’m having very irrational and completely non-compassionate thoughts like, at this point if you’re an eligible adult refusing the vaccine maybe you should really double down and sign an agreement that you will not receive medical care should you exhibit any symptoms that need the attention of a fully vaccinated and over worked health professional, or at the very least maybe insurances should have the right to deny any and all coverage. *Shrug*. My husband has a cousin who posted some BS about “I trust my body!” So I’m basically like …ok, if you get sick you should be on your own. This is also me being extremely angry at another cousin who refused the vaccine, got covid, and passed it to another relative who got pretty sick from a breakthrough and cousin 1 had the nerve to say that’s why she would never get the vaccine in the first place.

    • liz says:

The non-compassionate thoughts are very rational. My fully vaccinated 17 year old works in the Children’s Room of the local public library and spends the day around kids too young to be vaccinated. I’m pissed off on their behalf (yes, she wears a mask). Grown adults don’t want to be vaccinated and give the “it’s my body” BS excuse. Well, what about the little kids? They are getting sick because unvaccinated selfish brats spread the disease.

Yes, I know, vaccinated adults can also spread the disease, but it’s much harder/less likely. Look at the rates of children being hospitalized in Massachusetts (where most adults are vaccinated) vs. the rates of children being hospitalized in Florida.

      Rant over (for now).

      • Karlie says:

Yes, I’m very “won’t somebody think of the children” Helen Lovejoy here too. My friends 1 and 4 year olds just caught it. I have toddlers. I still wear a mask everywhere though vaccinated, but I am usually the only one at this point.

As a Teen Mom follower though I can tell you Kail started off with a good head on her shoulders but has just continued to make poor uninformed decisions as she gets older. She’s seriously the worst now. She posted about driving to a podcast after she was already displaying symptoms this week, I believe.

  6. Jessica says:

“I don’t know how this happened” YES YOU DO. I have zero patience for Covidiots. No sympathy except for her podcast partner and the kids, they aren’t at fault for this.

    • ClaireB says:

This is what stood out for me. “I don’t know how this happened.” This is playing up the helpless victim role, where she just passively, accidentally had some unpredictable thing happen to her. No, moron, you purposefully travelled during a pandemic while the virus that is causing the pandemic is mutating to be more contagious. You chose not to get the vaccine. You know how this happened.

I keep reading articles saying we need to engage anti-vaxxers with curiosity and compassion. Sadly, I am currently unable to do so. All I can say is that I’m sorry her children have such a willfully stupid parent.

  7. Amy T says:

I’d never heard of this woman before reading this, but she and the rest of their ilk are the reason I’ve added routine Covid testing back in my life, along with the masking inside anywhere that isn’t my house or that of a fully vaccinated household.
And if anything else wasn’t a reason to get the poke, there seems to be evidence of a possible tie to Covid and early onset dementia.

  8. Shanaynay says:

It’s time for MTV to nix these TM shows. I don’t see how the shows are a good idea. It seems like MTV is promoting teenage pregnancy. Personally, I don’t find this girls such great role models. Especially this chick who is an antivaxxer. Too bad hospitals cannot turn away the antivaxxer hypocrites!!!! Shouldn’t they be against treatment for the virus as well??? Guess their hypocrisy only goes one way!!

    • AmyB says:

@Shanaynay – AGREED! Most of these girls (women now) are complete train wrecks, and their salary on MTV enables their lives to be possible. Look at Farrah Abraham, Amber – I mean, hasn’t Amber had two children and doesn’t have custody of either of them? She has domestic assault charges against her from two of her partners. Farrah and her sex tape bs, and these are supposed to be role models?? LOL

I never knew much about the cast of Teen Mom 2, but if this is it, biggest eye roll EVER.

I have zero patience left for these anti-vax morons, unless of course you have some medical reason you cannot get the vaccine. It is not about YOU, and YOUR rights!! It is about YOU making others SICK!! What don’t these selfish assholes not understand about this???

  9. Mcmmom says:

I’m related to COVIDIOTS and it’s maddening. My dad and stepmom refuse to get vaccinated because medicine is bad and natural is good. My dad’s quote, “well, I’m going to let my body do what it’s going to do.” My sister continues to try to reason with him, but it’s like spitting into the wind. He’s always been self-centered, so this isn’t all that surprising.

  10. Jayna says:

Anti-vaxxers/anti-maskers can all end up in the hospital. I don’t care. I’m over them. We’ll see how they feel. Talk about that conservative radio host Phil Valentine from Tennessee, who is currently on a ventilator, as he led listeners down the wrong path with the whole consult your doctor, make your own decision, assess the likelihood of you getting it, but then he always touted he didn’t feel he needed one. You know the spiel. At his age, silver-haired, think again. He even mocked the vaccine in a parody song, I believe. He’s had Covid since the middle of July and has been in the hospital since the last week or so of July. His brother says he’s changed his tune, wishing he had been more pro-vaccine. But on a ventilator now. All for nothing. No sympathy. The older brother ran out immediately and got the vaccine after seeing what his brother is going through and urged people to do so.

  11. Sunny says:

Agree with everything written about this covidiot but my only qualm would be the idea that you did “research”- totally understand what is meant. However anti vaxxers always encourage people to “do their research” and say they’ve done theirs to justify not getting vaccines. They’re rightly mocked for this because they don’t mean peer reviewed medical journals. I would hate to use the same verbiage and accept it because you’re on the right side of history, unless you did mean reading peer reviewed medical journals. I think it’s more accurate to say you listened to what experts had to say. Just a thought!

  12. Chaine says:

So, birth control isn’t the only prophylactic she abhors? have a bunch of kids and then infect them all with Covid , umm OK. I just can’t with these people. And Why is she still called a “teen mom”? She doesn’t look a day under 35.

  13. BearcatLawyer says:

She will not change her mind about vaccines because now she has successfully survived Covid twice. She will assume that she and her kids are protected because they now have antibodies.

I fear this pandemic will never end thanks to people like Kailyn.

    • Becks1 says:

This is where I think the messaging needs to change a bit – i’ve seen so many comments on FB etc about how “well I had COVID so I have the antibodies so I don’t need the vaccine.” People assume that having COVID once gives you eternal protection against getting the virus again. It obviously doesn’t and I think that point needs to be hammered home.

    • Izzy says:

She’s also assuming that she will be just fine afterwards, but the reality is she may end up with long-haul symptoms, she may end up with some permanent scarring in her lungs which would leave her vulnerable to other infections for the rest of her life, and we have NO IDEA what else may happen.

These people disgust me. They should be required to sign waivers for ICU care. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

  14. Jess says:

She’s a selfish idiot, and she’s not even out of quarantine yet but she’s out and about town doing her podcast and having other people babysit her covid infected kids, it’s just insane to me.

  15. Diana says:

I didn’t realize you can get it twice! 😱What a dumbass.

  16. CJW says:

My sister is in hospital with a breakthrough case, because of her tRump loving son. In pissed and scared

    • Jayna says:

Wow. A breakthrough case and hospitalized? I was comforted by the fact that at least if you had breakthrough COVID it wouldn’t lead to hospitalization. What are her symptoms that caused her to be hospitalized?

  17. Gil says:

In America the delta variant it’s doing it’s job to getting rid of the wackos who refused to get vaccinated. Currently people in the hospital are the ones who refused vaccination. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

    • Amy T says:

I’d agree if they weren’t able to spread it to vaccinated people, and to medically fragile people and to kids who can’t get it.

Sadly, that’s not how it works.

  18. Tootsie McJingle says:

This just infuriates me so much. I know people like her. People who only think about themselves and not how the vaccine would protect not only them but the people around them. I know one guy who has four young kids who’s refusing to get vaccinated because he’s convinced that the vaccine will kill him, not Covid, and that Covid is not as big a deal as the media portrays it to be. I have four young kids myself, including 9 day old twins, and people like Kailyn just terrify me. I can’t imagine my poor, vulnerable little babies with Covid. I tear up just thinking about it…

  19. SusieQ says:

A hospitalized breakthrough case is so sad! I’m so, so, so sorry!

My fiancé and I likely have it again. We had it last August/September after I caught it at work, and he found out he was exposed at work this week because so many people at his job (a medical school!) haven’t been vaccinated. We were horribly sick last year, and I’m hoping our vaccines help mitigate some of the damage this time.

  20. Sam the Pink says:

This is also the one who livestreamed her plastic surgery. So she’s against vaccinations, which are actually tested and reviewed for safety, but plastic surgery? Sure.

    • Enis says:

She also had a Brazilian Butt Lift which is an incredibly deadly and dangerous surgery.

    • Arpeggi says:

From that last pic, it also seems like she doesn’t believe in sunscreen: she looks pretty red

      • Sam the Pink says:

Well a lot of anti-vax people also think sunscreen is poison, so that make sense.

I also can’t help but notice her tattoos – no shade, I’m heavily inked myself – but it’s sort of ironic that she’s scared of a tested vaccine but takes no issue injecting ink of unknown origin into herself. Priorities, indeed.

  21. Merricat says:

The unvaccinated are taking hospital resources away from people who have other medical problems. Totally preventable.

  22. Annie says:

Do we even believe she tested negative twice? There’s no way a person this irresponsible even believes in testing. People like this KILL their friends and family with their stupidity and dishonesty.

Learn from this, everyone. No friend is worth you dying for. Do you want to hang out with them that badly? If you know they’re anti-vaxers AVOID THEM. It’s what Jennifer Aniston is doing. It’s the only way they’ll learn. When nobody wants to hang out with them and they can’t get in anywhere. Enough is enough.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

Yes. I believe the only chance to save many lives is shunning people who won’t get vaccinated (assuming they are not part of the *very small* group who can’t for health reasons). My sister’s partner (a man in his 50s with no health insurance) refuses to get the shot because he “just needs more information.” My parents won’t confront him because it would be impolite. I’m going to tell them that we will not visit for the holidays if he is present or if they have been in contact with him in the 2 weeks before we arrive. Choices have consequences.

    • Normades says:

Yea, I for one totally don’t believe she tested negative twice. It’s all a pack of lies and victim playing.

    • sassafras says:

If she tested before coming back to the US from the DR, yeah those tests are completely ridiculous. I have a friend who just came back from Mexico and had to test positive to come back and she said the swab barely entered her nose. I’ve heard of someone else who tested positive on vacation, went back the next day, tipped the test place and then miraculously tested negative. This is probably a shocker but Mexico and the Dominican Republic *DON’T WANT TO KEEP THE POSITIVE CASES.* They have every interest in keeping tourism open and zero interest in giving out positive test results. So I believe she might have had a piece of paper from a Dominican hotel saying she was negative. Do I believe the test was 100% accurate? Obviously not.

  23. Lonnie tinks says:

Honestly, at this point I just don’t give a shit about these people. As far as I am concerned, hospitals should stop treating adults who haven’t been vaccinated. If you choose to be a moron and not get the vaccine when you are eligible for it, then doctors and hospitals have no obligation to treat you. And concerning children, the is why it is so important that it be mandatory that they be vaccinated before returning to school, children have the right to be fully vaccinated against preventable diseases despite having idiot parents.

  24. Nicole says:

There is a guy in my area whose family has been on the news asking for help to pay for his hospital expenses. He didn’t get the vaccine and has spent an entire month in the hospital. Suddenly now, he’s changed his tune about the vaccine. It pisses me off that his family is asking for help to pay his medical expenses. They’re having a fundraiser and everything. All of this could have been avoided if he’d had just gotten the damn vaccine like the rest of us.

    • ClaireB says:

I just saw a Go Fund Me for something like this. Some middle-aged white man in local or state government spent the last year posting anti-vaxx, Trumpist kind of stuff on his social media. Now he has died of Covid, leaving a Covid-positive wife and a very young infant. They have a donation page set up to help pay his hospital bills. I cannot believe the gall of these people to ask for money from others for their totally preventable crisis.

  25. Robert says:

This may just be gossip. But I read from a pretty reliable source. That some of the long term side effects from having covid are impotence, and infertility. This may get rid of a lot more conservatives than anyone is expecting.

  26. Mel says:

She was initially rewarded with fame for being irresponsible, why change now?

  27. Singhsong says:

This dumdum knows good and well how this happened. She knows how babies are made too. Her willful ignorance is infuriating. Thoughts and prayers.

  28. Tiffany says:

How the hell was she able to go to Iceland last year when they did not allow visitors until May of this year?

And I now she is not a diplomat.

    • fluffy_bunny says:

She was in Iceland in Feb of last year. Prior to the kick off of the pandemic. She did naked maternity photo shoots with a horse. It was horrible.

  29. RN says:

Let’s agree as a country to stop rewarding people like this for simply getting pregnant at a ridiculously young age. Her story overall is not important and we are seeing the result of the lack of education.

    • fluffy_bunny says:

She’s actually the only TM with a 4 year degree. I think she went to a diploma mill though and had to donate money to graduate.

  30. Amn says:

I’m personally in favor of socially ostracizing all anti vaxxers. Enough is enough. Just start refusing to work with them, or see them socially. I agree with the commenter who said they should be charged if they infect or kill someone. I also think their kids shouldn’t be allowed in public schools, and their views should be taken into account in custody hearings. Give them some real repercussions.

  31. Miss Margo says:

This antivaxer isn’t at a healthy weight either. So as she gets older the less likely her body will be able to fight off covid. Can you imagine how many people her and her entire family infected? Idiots I say.

  32. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

It’s always abstract when one covidiot succumbs to covid, and my mind goes into a nasty realm. My oldest son’s father and grandfather are card-toting republican f#cktards about the illness, vaccines, masks all of it. Might as well fly the rebel flag and don truck nuts. At the moment, my son and his dad are quarantining because the grandfather is suffering covid, was rushed to the hospital and is hours away from a ventilator. My heart and mind is split into two opposing campus. Empathy and apathy. Oh and anger.

  33. Valerie says:

“I don’t even know how this happened.”

Don’t you? She sounds like the type to do her own ‘research’; this should be easy for her!

  34. J ferber says:

    This bitch.

    • Call_Me_Al says:

Yeah I just can’t even anymore. I’m too tired to hold back. Lady, you are just plain stupid.

  35. Midge says:

I’m sorry but I’m just trying to understand how someone is ducking her.
