Tisha Campbell ran into a bear cub at the store: ‘It’s not like I’m in a secluded area!’

I have loved Tisha Campbell since School Daze and Martin. Tisha has always managed to make me laugh no matter the situation. Tisha was recently interviewed by Kevin Frazier for Entertainment Tonight. Tisha shared an unbelievable story about how a 120lb bear cub (that’s a full grown bear IMO) decided to go grocery shopping in her local Ralph’s in the middle of Los Angeles while she was picking up some items. Tisha spotted the cub picking the perfect loaf in the bread section while she was getting some fruit. Tisha said that the people in the store were trying to shoo it outside while she was recording the encounter. Below are a few more highlights from ET Online:

“He was in the bread section. I’m all the way in the fruit section. My instinct was, ‘OK, I have to figure out how I’m gonna get out of here,’ because they were just shooing him outside. How am I gonna get to my car?” she recalled. “So the calm that you see on my IG is really panic, straight panic. But I have to always think two steps ahead. Thank god my mother taught me how to play chess…When I got into my car I got to let it out.”

The former My Wife and Kids star shared video of the experience on her Instagram, which shows the bear in the aisle, and Campbell making her way to her car. “You saw the calm before the storm,” she joked. “But you didn’t see the panic.”

The video also shows her pushing her cart out of the store. “I paid for my groceries, but that was part of the panic because I was trying to wait for the bear to go farther. So I was panicked. I just kept paying for my groceries,” she said with a laugh. “Oh that’s so dumb, I should’ve just dropped the cart and just ran out while he was distracted. But I just got nervous because that looked like a baby bear to me, it didn’t look like a full-grown bear. So where there’s a baby there’s a mama…My dumb behind bought, that’s why I was out of breath because I was throwing my groceries in the back and rushed into the front.”

Campbell had never had anything like this happen to her, adding, “I’ve never seen a bear in this area. It’s a very urban area. There’s a lot of people, a lot of houses.” Her own mother also couldn’t believe her story when she told her.

“I just started hitting my family members, and my mother kept saying, ‘You’re lying, you’re lying,” she recalled. “Nobody believed me.”

[From ET Online]

I was hollering watching her live video on Instagram. All the New Jersey came out of Tisha’s mouth. The way Tisha started melting down once she got into her car felt like an episode from Martin. Tisha said she needs the wildlife to stay the f*ck away from her. I am not sure how a bear cub ended up in a Ralph’s in urban California but here we are. I am sure I would have been probably freaked out like Tisha but way before I got into my car. My thoughts would have been more on the mother bear coming to her child’s rescue and wreaking havoc in the store. I can totally see folks screaming and running out of the store like their hair was on fire. But that’s just me and my dramatic ass mind. It also seems that Tisha has been a magnet for wildlife for the last few weeks. She said she was chased by a bob cat, her hotel was surrounded by coyotes and she encountered a wild boar on her latest trip. I think if I were Tisha, I’d just stay in my house for the rest of 2021 and order what I need delivered.

Oh, that was funny! I had to watch her video a couple of times! Totally understandable reaction! Who expects to see a bear cub (and it did look like a cub to me, too) in their local Ralph’s?!

  2. Lizzie says:

Props to the cub who decided to go to the grocery story instead of eating some campers.

  3. Nicole says:

Homegirl lives in Encino. Not exactly bear country. I would freak the eff out too.

    • MoonTheLoon says:

That store was in Porter Ranch, which kinda is.
I go to the Joann’s in that same area of that shopping center a lot.

    🤣

  5. Dlc says:

Omg! That was hilarious! I would probably stop and buy my groceries too instead of dropping them and getting the f out….which would be the smart thing to do!

  6. Willow says:

Wait…what??!!! And all those people just stayed in the store with the bear? Are they insane? No, they must be city people who have no clue how dangerous bears are. Stop shopping. Leave your groceries. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. And let the idiots who are trying to ‘shoo’ the bear get munched on while you swiftly exit the store.

  7. Remy says:

It was in my old neighborhood, porter ranch. I was surprised when I saw it on the news.

  8. Zantasia says:

I love her! Why haven’t I seen her in more shows lately? She is so talented.

    1. Hilarious reaction, I empathize 100%. 2. She kept her mask on even in the car, BRAVO!! One time I was canoeing with others on a Florida River and all of a sudden there was a semi-hidden alligator. We just went silent and glided, no sudden movement, paddles at the ready. Then paddled on, no biggie. But that is nothing like seeing a bear cub at Ralph’s!
