We’re really in the long, hazy days of August and royal reporters have nothing better to do than unleash a barrage of articles about how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are terrible, for reasons. The reasons this week? The paperback edition of Finding Freedom with a new epilogue, and Omid Scobie’s People Magazine interview. As you can imagine, Dan Wootton has been saving up his bile for his weekly Daily Mail column. Wootton isn’t just attacking Harry and Meghan. He also takes aim at Omid Scobie and – get this – says outright that Scobie is an “operative” for the Sussexes. This from the man who used his Mail column to publish unhinged love letters to Prince William. This from the man who is the Cambridges’ de facto attack dog. Some highlights from Wootton’s column:
The Queen’s response to the Oprah interview: Despite contending with one of the most difficult periods she’d ever experienced emotionally, Harry and Meghan’s largely fanciful and unverified claims were not simply dismissed by the Queen as I believe they should have been. Instead of spending precious time with Philip, the Queen gathered with courtiers to carefully ponder and then release a statement responding to the interview designed to take the Sussexes claims seriously but not throw the rest of her family under a bus given the complete lack of proof provided to a sycophantic Oprah.
The Queen didn’t really want to spend time with Harry: The Queen also agreed to spend one on one time with her grandson when he returned for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, even though I’m sure she did so through gritted teeth.
The diversity tsar: “And by that time the Royal Family had agreed to the appointment of a diversity tsar, another attempt to show the Queen took modernising seriously. But was that enough for the most self-obsessed duo on the planet? Of course it bloody wasn’t.
On the Finding Freedom excerpt: The Queen does not need to take ‘full ownership’ of anything she didn’t do – and the couple told Oprah it wasn’t her who made a comment about their as yet unborn baby’s skin tone. And until Harry and Meghan provide proof of racism, there’s nothing more the Queen can do apart from talk to her relatives, which she has already promised.
Dan Wootton understands Omid Scobie: Now I know how Scobie works; he’s an operative for his beloved H&M. The idea he would quote sources close to the couple without knowing the Sussexes approve of them is laughable. But hilariously today the legally trigger-happy Duke and Duchess of Sussex have unleashed their rottweiler lawyers Schillings to try and scare off journalists connecting Finding Freedom to the couple. If they’re so horrified, then why don’t Harry and Meghan publicly condemn the book, given they’re so inclined to do that about other media coverage with which they’re unhappy? After all, the publishers have even decided to release Finding Freedom Part Two on August 31 – the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.
On silent approval & permission: Anyone who knows how all the behind-the-scenes dealing between journalists, royals and the Sussexes work, which I certainly do, knows that this book is published with the silent approval of Harry and Meghan. Scobie admits to speaking with the couple’s close friends and associates – something I doubt would have happened without their permission.
Wootton actually has a new excerpt from Scobie’s People interview: In an interview with People magazine to promote the book, Scobie added: ‘There are people within the family who [the Sussexes] are much closer to today than they were a year ago. But in terms of Harry’s relationship with his father and brother, that progress has been very little. I think he is quite willing to own his part in everything, but I have been told that he is waiting to see some of that on the other side – and as of now there hasn’t been that.’
I started laughing at the part about the diversity tsar. Wootton was in full rant mode about how the Sussexes had provided zero PROOF of the racism they experienced and not even the promise of a shiny new diversity tsar would satiate their hunger to cry “racism!” By the way, was a diversity tsar ever hired? Or was it just a face-saving announcement with zero follow-through? Was the empty promise to hire a diversity tsar further proof that the Windsors are tone-deaf racist a–holes?
As for all of the stuff about Scobie… y’all know how I feel about all of it, I’ve left enough breadcrumbs. If the worst anyone on Salt Island can say about Meghan and Harry is that they quietly authorized their friends to speak with Scobie and Durand, well then H&M are in good company because literally every royal does that with their biographers. Wootton just wants to smear and delegitimize Scobie and the Sussexes. All of which Wootton is doing at the behest of his master, Prince William.

The latest nonsense in the Daily Fail is a story about how the Cambridges generously donated 500k from the Royal Foundation to Sentebale. This is another twisted story to make the Cambridges look good. This is money that came from the division once Harry and Meghan left the Foundation, it is money that was raised by them.

We’re coming up on two years. When you look at it, they left in early Nov 2019 for a six week break. William instructed his staff to get the news out about their location. Wootten paying the staffer’s boyfriend for info on their location and plans. Once that betrayal came down, writing was on the wall.
They came back briefly (Jan 2020), thanked Canada House, visited charities, and announced their half-in, half-out proposal next day. Royals scuppered that and they were soon back in Canada. COVID hits, they had to evacuate from Canada to California a month or two later because they couldn’t legally stay in Canada.
@LANNE, does it make me very selfish to confess today that despite all the undescribable hurt they have hurled the Sussexes way one is for sure? They are killing the brand they have remaining for them and I am all very fine waiting for it to die right to the point of its abolition.

I had said that I wonder what it’s doing to William’s relationship w/ the York princesses, and I suggested that Eugene’s very public support of the Sussexes (or specifically Meghans 40×40 project) and her being the ONLY royal family member to give any overt display of support, might be in part (because she and Harry already WERE close) due to her ire over her father’s eviction on William’s part. Here Dan Wooten states that the Sussexes have family members who they were closer to now than they were a year ago<— surely these are the York princesses or at least Eugenie. Also Wooten is Will's mouth piece so Wooten saying it suggests Will is pissy about it….While Beatrice hasn't made any public shows of support for H&M, I do wonder how she's feeling toward William these days. Also good thing Jack Brooksbank has a job because E&J could find themselves fully cut off if she continues to be publically supportive of H&M when William becomes king (IF he ever becomes king. Eugenie has been supportive of Harry and Meghan for years. Harry filmed his bit with Ed Sheeran at Eugenie’s rented place at KP, Ivy Cottage. She and Meghan knew each other through Misha N before Harry and Meghan even met.
William cannot evict Andrew from Royal Lodge. Andrew has a legal lease for 75 years, which will be inherited by his wife and daughters on his death. Even if he is convicted of crimes, he cannot be evicted. Nor can he evict Eugenie from Frogmore Cottage if she obtains a legal lease from the Crown Estate.
I wouldn’t worry about the York princess’ bank balances. TQM left them bequeaths, as I’m sure PP did, and TQ will. They have money (although I don’t know how much they have left, considering Freeloader has raided the trusts over the years by “borrowing” money from her daughters – like they’ll ever see THAT money again!).
If the claims about concerns over Archie’s skin tone were not true then why can’t the firm just come out and say that? Why say recollections very when you could deny outright & why would they brief about a diversity officer (one they haven’t hired so why was that meant to placate someone as opposed to apologising for the behaviour?)
Omid’s comments about Harry being closer to some members of the family blatantly comes from Harry saying on Oprah or James Corden that he had spoken more to Betty than ever before & having a good relationship & understanding. The point about relationship with William & Charles being at standstill any of us could guess based on Harry telling Gayle talks hadn’t been productive & briefings from KP& CH continuing including allegedly telling Lacey Harry was damaged goods& Kate admitting she hadn’t met Lili yet. I feel like like most of the rota Omid gets info from fan accounts, interviews Sussexes have done & existing reporting & passes it off as insider knowledge.
When FF came out the Sussexes said they hadn’t cooperated but were relaxed about friends speaking to the authors. As I said yesterday I think this is because some of their friends had been approached back in 2017/2018 for cute stories of their courtship & then when smears started for comments on things like tiara or tears gate. I think most anonymous sources for FF were palace staff they were speaking to on the ground as events were happening.
I know lawyers were involved but would think if Omid& Carolyn had significant briefings from their circle here would have been more tea & less inaccuracies in FF.

Just like with the Palace denying Meghan inpatient treatment even after she admitted to having suicidal ideations. We didn’t even see the “Palace sources” trying to defend the royals.

I actually went and watched one of Dan Wooton’s rages and I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. Reading his column is bad enough, but seeing him rage on television is terrifying. He needs to be stopped and if he is, but a puppet to Prince William, than those of us in the commonwealth have an important decision to make by opening our constitutions to get him out!
