‘Manifest’ renewed for 4th season by Netflix following high streaming numbers

I’ve been hearing about Manifest for a while, I know Dustin at Pajiba loves it to mock it, but I didn’t start watching it until last week. At three episodes in I worried that I was going to get too attached and not get a resolution. I don’t think it’s spoilery to say that the show did not resolve the central mystery after three seasons and a cancellation by NBC. Fans have been calling for a streaming service to pick it up, and it looked like it was a goner when Netflix passed on another season in June. Now that so many people are streaming it Netflix has since reneged on that decision. They’re bringing back Manifest for 20 episodes in a fourth and last season.

Manifest is taking one last flight after NBC canceled the sci-fi series earlier this summer, three seasons in.

The series has officially been saved by Netflix, which has renewed the show for a supersized fourth and final season. The concluding chapter will consist of 20 episodes, wrapping up the story of Montego Air Flight 828 and its passengers, who mysteriously went missing for more than five years without aging a single day.

“What started years ago as a flight of fancy deep in my imagination has evolved into the jet engine journey of a lifetime. Never in my wildest dreams could I have envisioned the worldwide outpouring of love and support for this story, its characters, and the team who work so hard to bring it all to life. That we will be able to reward the fans with the ending they deserve moves me to no end,” said creator Jeff Rake in a statement. “On behalf of the cast, the crew, the writers, directors, and producers, thank you to Netflix, to Warner Bros., and of course to the fans. You did this.”

Netflix made the announcement on Saturday for 828 Day, an unofficial holiday for Manifest fans, celebrating Flight 828 on August 28. The news comes as a Change.org petition to save the show has surpassed 95,000 signatures.

“Since its premiere on Netflix in June, Manifest has proven very popular with our members,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix Head of Global TV, said in a statement. “Jeff Rake and his team have crafted a beguiling mystery that has viewers around the world on the edge of their seats and believing again in second chances, and we’re thrilled that they will bring fans some closure with this final super-sized season.”

Manifest stars Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J. R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina, Parveen Kaur, Matt Long, and Holly Taylor, to name a few.

[From People]

I think all the controversy over the show getting canceled led more people to watch it. My friends are watching it, which got me into it. (Thanks April and Zakia!) It’s the number five most popular show on Netflix now and they know there’s a lot of money to be made in another season. I’m happy for the fans and I’m now up to episode seven! It’s dumb and is starting to get weird, but I need a mindless show to keep me occupied until 9-1-1 comes back next month.

Hilarious. It got cancelled for a good reason. Season 3 was so bad, it wasn’t even fun to hate-watch anymore.
Now if they could bring back Debris please? That one was so brilliantly and entertainingly trashy! I miss it dearly.

    • FHMom says:

This. My daughter and I watched the first 2 seasons as they aired, but couldn’t get past the first few episodes of season 3. We rarely abandon a show, but we both agreed to junk this. It started off well enough but it lost any real direction it had.. After investing way too much of myself in LOST, I refuse to watch a show that just keeps adding random roadblocks and storylines to the plot.

    • Keekey says:

Yes! I haven’t seen Manifest yet but please more Debris!

Also, Good Girls was uneven but entertaining and it deserves a final season, too.

I watched the first two seasons and just could not bring myself to watch the 3rd. Dustin’s recaps confirmed that I made the right decision

  2. North of Boston says:

I happy for fans of the show, but personally I bowed out sometime during the first season. It seemed like the show consistently focused on characters, plot threads that were the least interesting to me, particularly Michaela’s love life and “gone rogue” police officer drama.

  3. Erica says:

I’ve literally never watched an episode but I LOVE to read Dustin’s hate reviews. They crack me up. I cannot believe the show even lasted 3 seasons! I know people that watch it though-but they are like Dustin. They watch it because it is so absolutely bonkers.

  4. Basi says:

I love paranormal and the plot of this is awesome. However, it quickly turned into a bad soap opera and my husband and I stopped watching mid first season.

I’m seriously shocked it has 3 seasons and soon to be 4. Didn’t anyone learn their lesson after Lost?? Lol

    • FHMom says:

I just wrote something similar before reading this. I learned my lesson with LOST. Never again. Lol

  5. Aang says:

This show could have been so good, what an interesting premise, kind of like a reverse Lost. I love paranormal stuff, but the writing and the acting on this show was just so so bad. I’m not sure if the acting was terrible because the material was awful or if it was cast as badly as it was written.

It got better over time. I stopped watching it during the original run in the first season but I went back to watching it again this summer. I’m glad to see they will actually wrap it up, unlike Travelers.

    • Eleonor says:

I tried when it started, stopped, and now all the fuzz is making me curious.

    • pottymouth pup says:

I was sad to see Travelers end but the ending they put out made perfect sense and left the door open for them to reboot at any time (and with any cast). I cry every time I see some show that doesn’t need to be rebooting coming back but not one that makes perfect sense to reboot like Travelers

    • AmelieOriginal says:

Travelers got too confusing for me to follow but I kept watching, to see if there would be any resolution to the main storyline. I can barely remember what happened on that show because time travel shows always confuse me. But I enjoyed some of the characters and actors.

  7. Sofia says:

I did start watching a bit of the pilot but then I saw that it got cancelled and the mystery wasn’t even solved so I stopped watching because I didn’t want to get overly invested with no pay off. I saw this and thought I might pick it up again but judging by the article and the comments, it’s not a good show so I may still pass.

  8. ReginaGeorge says:

I used to have this on as background noise as I waited for SVU to come on after. I really didn’t get pulled into it back then (it was already on S3) but I decided to binge watch it from the beginning this weekend and I got into it. Glad it’s getting a final season for closure. Though I can already see they are gonna end it with Michaeia getting back with her ex who showed his ass in S2 acting a bit unhinged and obsessive by stalking and harassing her new acquaintance.

    • fluffy_bunny says:

Michaela is married to and quite happy with Zeke so I don’t see her getting back with Jared. Jared seems to have moved on with the Major’s daughter

      • ReginaGeorge says:

I hope so, but they seemed to have been foreshadowing some love triangle drama BS in the last few episodes. He told her he would have to end it with the Major’s daughter after finding out about Saanvi and he told her he only accepted her and Zeke’s marriage when he thought it wasn’t gonna last (don’t want to post a spoiler). I hope not. I love Zeke for her.

  9. Stellainnh says:

I watched the show because of all the hoopla I read. I didn’t find any of the characters likeable. Their timelines were ridiculous and unrealistic. I don’t understand why it was popular. I will not waste anymore time with that series.

    • Dee says:

Stopped watching a few episodes in when I realized I didn’t care what happened to anyone. Nobody who acted like they did in their supposed professions (cop, doctor, etc.) would still be employed. None of the characters were believable. The idea was great (plane comes back 5 years later) but once the plane was back, the best part was over.

I’d rather another season of “Away”, “the 4400” or “Alcatraz”, I thought each of these had more potential and that “Manifest” was too derivative and get too far-fetched. but I’ll watch it anyway

  11. Shannon Prestridge says:

The most fun thing for me has been watching this show coupled with Dustin’s commentary. I’m so dead and here for all of it. That being said, not sure I could tolerate it without the commentary that goes along with it.

  12. Aud says:

I love watching it and I’m thrilled that it was picked up for season 4. I watched without realizing it was cancelled, I just saw friends mentioning how good it is. We desperately needed another season to wrap things up.

But I also saw that Parveen Kaur is still in negotiations. I’m gonna be so upset if she doesn’t sign on. 🙁

  13. ME says:

I actually liked this show at the beginning, but this season I only watched a few episodes and then lost interest. I don’t know why but I just wasn’t getting much out of it anymore.

  14. AmelieOriginal says:

I haven’t watched Manifest though I was wondering if I should give it a try since it’s been Netflix’s top 10 for the last few weeks. I recently got into Kim’s Convenience after putting it off, and omg what a cute show! I know it ends abruptly with the end of the 5th season and earlier this year there was a lot of drama when the Canadian channel announced its cancellation with the 5th season. That is a story for another post which I won’t get into here but I really want Netflix to pick up Kim’s Convenience so that the cast can give the show the ending it deserves! It gave Lucifer an extra 3 seasons after it was canceled by Fox, why not Kim’s Convenience?
