Lisa Kudrow plays “Smelly Cat” at charity event

Lisa Kudrow proved herself to be quite the good sport last night at Feeding America’s Rock a Little, Feed a Lot charity concert. Kudrow wasn’t there to sing – she was just supposed to introduce Sheryl Crow with Courteney Cox. As the two came out on the stage, someone from the audience called out for her to sing “Smelly Cat,” the infamously terrible song her character on “Friends” sang. Courteney got someone to give Lisa a guitar, and she was accommodating enough to sing a few bars – and even remembered to include the awkward warbles.

With Friends like these, who needs reruns?

Phoebe Buffay Lisa Kudrow, with forever-linked-pal Courteney Cox by her side, last night broke out the guitar and delighted the crowd with a few bars of “Smelly Cat” at Feeding America’s Rock a Little, Feed a Lot charity concert.

OK, not so much broke out the guitar as had the guitar unsuspectingly foisted upon her by a goading crowd, but still.

Kudrow and Cox had made their way onstage with the express purpose of introducing Sheryl Crow, when an overeager (and possibly stuck in the ’90s) audience member called out for the tune.

And while Kudrow hesitated at first, well, it’s nice to surround yourself with people you know you can count on. Of which her former costar is apparently not one.

“Get her a guitar, people!” Cox yelled out.

“Is this a setup?” Kudrow asked, before giving in and entertaining the crowd.

[From E! News]

My favorite “Smelly Cat” episode from “Friends” was when Phoebe made the music video for the song and didn’t realize they’d dubbed her voice. Ahhh, those were the days, the mid-90s when everything was peaceful and we still thought “Friends” was funny. Now when I watch the reruns I find myself wincing a lot.

You don’t see Lisa out with Courteney and Jennifer Aniston much. From their easy and natural interaction on stage it’s clear she and Cox are still friends, but Kudrow has definitely lived a much more quiet and private life since the end of the show. I still think she has the most talent of any of the three ladies, but she probably just doesn’t have the desire to do a bunch of romantic comedies. She does smaller independent films here and there, and isn’t flashy about it. But man, she still can sing.

Here’s David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Patricia Arquette and Thomas Jane along with Lisa Kurdrow and Sheryl Crow at the ‘Rock a Little, Feed a Lot’ benefit concert last night in Los Angeles. Images thanks to WENN.com .

Must be a slow news day.

Some chatter again about a reunion film. I’m in if it becomes a reality, and if not oh, well = )

@Firestarter: I’d rather read a post about Phoebe and Smelly Cat than another one about any of the Kardashians, but that’s just me! LOL!

@JayBird: I remember loving Friends and never missing an episode back in the 90s. However, ITA with you, when I watch them now I cringe at how unfunny some of the episodes were.

Hands down the funniest episode was the one with Ross and the Leather pants. He was in some girl’s bathroom when he took them off because they were making him really hot and sweaty. Hilarity Ensued!

    Are we voting?

I’ll vote the Kardashians off the island = )

Pheobe, Ross, and Chandler were the reasons I was able to tolerate the show. Monica was ok, but I couldn’t stand the other 2.

Courtney needs to step away from the Botox needle….

Lisa can do no wrong. Love her! And I so miss Lisa as “Valerie Cherish”. She is so very talented to create that character.

Once again I find myself being the lone voice of dissent…*sigh*. I’m cringing as I write this because I don’t like disagreeing with everyone, but I honestly found Kudrow to be the least talented and the most annoying of the Friends (“Smelly Cat” being one of the reasons for that). And “Comeback” was completely unwatchable, IMO. I’ll be skipping this clip. Oh, and Firestarter is right…

  16. Mairead says:

I loved the bit where Phoebe was teaching Chrissy Hynde’s character “Smelly Cat” and Phoebe thought Chrissy sounded terrible and made a patronising “it’s a very difficult song to sing right” comment. 😀

I hope that was real and I’m not dreaming it. off to YouTube methinks

I miss “The Comeback” more than anything…one of my favorite shows, ever.
It was filmed in the same vein as “The Office” and I wonder if anyone notices that.

  18. velcrodots says:

I love the one where she kept stealing Monica’s tissues and sniffing them because a cold made her singing voice “sexy”
Phoebe and Monica are the reason I watch Friends! (we currently have re-runs of it for like the millionth time, who cares, no ones sick of it yet!)
