Pose was shut out in every category last night by The Crown. This year Pose won several Creative Arts Emmys at least. Billy Porter earned an Emmy for his portrayal as Pray Tell in 2019. Porter always brings the fashion and last night was no exception. He had on a black Ashi Studio look featuring tiered ruffled sleeves that looked alternately lizard and avian-like on the carpet. It was fascinating to watch him pose for photos. Billy explained hat the wing-like sleeves were originally supposed to go to the floor but that didn’t work out. You couldn’t tell at all! The all black made his incredible jewelry pop too. He’s wearing a Lorraine Schwartz emerald and diamond necklace.

Billy’s costar, Mj Rodriguez, made history as the first transgender woman to be nominated in a lead acting category. She was in a gorgeous seafoam green one shoulder Versace with lines of tiny sequins on the bodice. I loved her nails too. There were so many bold nail looks at the Emmys this year.
I’ve never watched Pose (to my detriment I’m sure) but I just love that someone like Billy Porter even exists! It’s always a joy to see him on a red carpet.
Watch it. It’s worth it. Not sure if its on Netflix or Hulu but it’s amazing.
I watched the two seasons that are on Netflix this week. Over the past few months I’ve been dealing with pandemic anxiety by diving into the history of the AIDS epidemic in this country. I was born in 1980 and taught that people who had AIDS were all bad people who deserved it. It’s been painful and enlightening, learning about this in depth. Pose is an insight I never would have gotten to experience. It’s a series, so you get to know all the characters. I hope season 3 gets added soon. I’m having to stop myself from reading recaps because I’m so curious about how it all wraps up.

He really is the master of gender fluid looks. My fave will always be the tuxedo gown, but this is in the same vein. Is it masculine? Feminine? Neither? Both?

The sleeves and the necklace are fantastic, but other than that it looks kind of like a jazz class uniform. It feels like they put so much effort into the sleeves that the rest of the look suffered for it.

I turned on the red carpet coverage just as MJ came on and she was STUNNING. Pretty sure she said the dress was vintage too.
