Kaley Cuoco in a bright Vera Wang at the Emmys: better than we expected?

On the plus side, The Flight Attendant was a well-received show and Kaley Cuoco got some of the biggest critical praise of her career for it. The bad news? Well, TFA walked away empty-handed at the Emmys. The show was nominated for nine Emmys, including nominations for Kaley and Rosie Perez and Best Comedy, and it lost out on everything other than one technical award for main title music.

Still, I would hope that Kaley really enjoyed the experience and that she learned a lot as a producer. She put this whole project together and good for her. Kaley wore a custom Vera Wang gown to last night’s Emmys. This yellow-chartreuse shade was all over the red carpet… it seems like this might be one of the colors of the fall/winter. Which is strange, but so be it. This is Kaley’s first big public appearance since she and her second husband (Karl Cook) split. I like that she didn’t bring a romantic date to the Emmys, she was just there to have fun and vibe. I wish this wasn’t a mullet dress. It should have just been a full skirt, it would have been much cuter. Also: if you’re going to do bangs (yuck), don’t do a messy ponytail to a big awards show? Her hair…no bueno.

Rosie Perez wore Pamella Roland. Very flattering and pretty. I’m so glad Rosie is having a comeback.

Kaley’s is very prom-y imo. And that one corsage-type sleeve would annoy the heck out of me, I’m sure. The striking part is the color of the dress, but it all comes off as a little too ‘Claire’s Boutique’ for my tastes.
I do like Rosie’s gown but I wish the color were different. Her posture is stunning in those pics (I say, while typing this on my phone in my permanent hunch).

    • LaraK says:

It’s because the spaghetti straps stick out below the detail, makes it look like her boobs are at her navel. Awkward!

The rest of the dress is nice.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Her breasts absolutely do not look like they are at her navel. Come on.

      • Jenn says:

OK, not the *navel*, but it does make her torso seem very long when it is not. (I love the dress and wish the low, low neckline had not been pointed out to me.)

    • Moxylady says:

I like Kaley. Why does no one help her with her eyebrows?!?

      • Lilibetp says:

Does she strike you as the kind of person who would allow someone to help with her eyebrows? Because she doesn’t me.

    • AmB says:

Right? My first thought: “Why does she have Swiffer dusters on her shoulders?!?”

(And why are they such different sizes? Maybe she has allergies and has been surreptitiously wiping her nose on the left one?)

      • Debbie says:

Yeah, I’m also puzzled by why they are of different sizes too. I normally don’t like that chartreuse color, but this time I don’t mind it so much. That slit though. Yikes.

  2. Sierra says:

I love the dress but the colour should have been mustard instead of this screaming yellow.

  3. Zen says:

I like it. It suits her figure.

  4. Southern Fried says:

The color of Kaley’s dress should be outlawed.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Southern Fried, thank you!!! I thought I was the only one who actually hates this color!! I find it appalling and couldn’t look good on anyone’s skin tone as well!!

  5. Jess says:

Is it just me, or do Kaley’s eyes look really sad?

  6. OriginalLala says:

Chartreuse is one of those colours that looks bad on every skin tone. It’s a bad colour lol

    • SarahCS says:

I’m inclined to agree. My BFF will never be allowed to forget the time another friend and I went round to help her do a wardrobe edit and she had to admit owning a chartreuse jumpsuit. She’d never left the house in in but kept trying to sneak it back out of the charity shop pile!

    • Yup, Me says:

No. I’ve seen it on very dark skinned women and it’s absolutely stunning. It punishes everyone else who tries to wear it.

      • terra says:

I’m an incredibly pale redhead and yellow is one of my favorite colors, so I wear it.

I have a few tops in this color and while I’ll admit that perhaps darker greens, especially emerald, are some of the best for my hair color, I think I carry the chartreuse off decently well. It’s probably because my skin is quite neutral in undertone, so there’s no pink or yellow tinge for it to enhance.

  7. North of Boston says:

Kaley is talented and successful, but there is something about how she styles herself when she’s “on” that seems like she’s going for a vibe that fights against her natural style. So she never looks comfortable to me in whatever she’s wearing.

The wispy long bangs, the delicate earrings, even the color all seem to me like they are clashing with this incredibly striking woman with such great dynamic energy who would look great with more modern styling and fashion.

I get it, I’m someone who is drawn like a heat seeking missile to clothing that clashes with my coloring and look; it’s how I see myself in my head, but does not do me any favors in how I actually look.

    • terra says:

Yes, everything about this is a mess. The only part that’s nice is the shoes and other than the color they’re so basic that that’s not saying anything.

But she kind of always looks a mess, doesn’t she? And it makes no sense. She could hire the best team of stylists and pull from the most exclusive designers. She wants kooky? Go for up and coming designers like Molly Goddard or Christopher John Rogers, who dressed Michaela Coel in a similar shade but to much better effect. Established? Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino loves to play with color and Thom Browne lives for turning convention slightly on it’s head.

Kaley is a pretty, tall-ish, thin blonde with money to burn – she could do so much better! It’s perplexing.

  8. so says:

The good thing about Hailey’s bangs : they hide her sperm shaped eyebrows!

  9. Seraphina says:

While I love Rosie, she looks like a female version of the Oscar award – if Oscar were a female. Sorry Rosie. Dress doesn’t capture her spunk and vivacity.

    • BeanieBean says:

The dress makes her look matronly, not a word I’d usually use to describe Rosie Perez.

      • BothSidesNow says:

May I add that I don’t think Rosie Perez has been shown enough love for her acting! I have thoroughly enjoyed anything that she is in, but she doesn’t seem to get the accolades that she deserves. When I saw her in that money with Nic Cage, I thought she stole the entire movie with her acting chops. She is extremely talented and I wish she would get the accolades she deserves.

I think Rosie looks lovely here and I will continue to cheer her on!!!

  10. Case says:

I hated this entire look. It looks…cheap? And it’s not the color — neon is really fun and there were some similarly-colored dresses I liked last night (though not the best for this season, IMO). But the style of the dress and her hair are not great. She didn’t come dressed as a winner. She looks like she was going to the Nickelodeon awards!

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ Case : I think the dress would have worked out ok if it had been one less (anything). Take away the corsage things on the shoulders or have it not so focused on showing her cleavage. I think it would have been lovely with a higher bodice and maybe strapless because those flowery things on her spaghetti straps do her no favors. Some old style glamor with an old style glamor hairstyle with her bangs and everything pulled up to a high bun.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Still_Sarah, yes, the entire dress is too busy and she looks like she called in her attendance.

  11. lucy2 says:

I really liked TFA, and it made me see Kaley in a different light (I hated TBBT) but there was to much competition this year.
I don’t care for Kaley’s look at all. I think a new stylist could really make her a red carpet star.
Rosie looks great, I love her dress.

  12. drbessy says:

Kaley Cuoco and Kate Winslet must have the same surgeon. They are looking samesies next to each other in the thumbnails! 👀

  13. Sof says:

The slit ruins Kaley’s dress for me. Maybe if it was lower and to the side it would’ve looked better. Otherwise I think it’s a very pretty dress.

  14. iconoclast59 says:

I’m in the minority who like Kaley’s dress; I think it’s figure-flattering and fun. But I do agree with Kaiser that the hair is no bueno. I know this probably shows my age, but I don’t get why a woman would dress herself to the nines then style her hair like she just got back from the gym.

  15. Rai says:

I just don’t think Kaley really gives a fig and just wears whatever free thing shows up…her “real life” style tends to be on point and in direct contrast to her barbie goes to prom award gowns.

Rosie is a queen and fould wear overalls and I’d still swoon.

  16. KinChicago says:

I own a bright neon bra and panty set in Kaley’s dress color. Wearing it never fails to make me smile and brighten my mood when facing a dreary day.

  17. Anh says:

I love everything that people seem to hate – the dress style, the colour, her hair and her make-up. She looks awesome! I think many people could look good with that colour
