Yara Shahidi in emerald Dior at the Emmys: stunning & perfect?

Yara Shahidi had probably my favorite look at the Emmys. She really kills it when she’s on a red carpet, and she plays around with her look a lot. For the Emmys, Yara went super-classic in this emerald-green Dior. I thought at first (on the carpet) that this was a full-length gown, which I would have loved. But no – it’s tea length, which makes it more of an Audrey Hepburn-esque look. She paired the classic dress with Cartier jewels. Perfect. I have zero complaints.

Rita Wilson wore a sparkly Tom Ford suit. From the waist up, everything is good. I dislike the cut on the pants though.

Sophia Bush in Markarian. I feel like there were several versions of the “pink princess dress” on the Emmys carpet. While I kind of think this Markarian gown is boring, it was also one of the better versions of the pink princess dress. It would have been so much better in a different color!

    She looked gorgeous.

Yara was hands down my favorite look of the night. Color, cut, fit…perfections!

WHY is Rita Wilson being made into a “thing” now? She’s a mediocre actress at best, not a great singer, and her biggest claim to fame is being married to Tom Hanks (and let’s not get started on some of her views, that seem to mirror her spawn, Chet Haze!). Not a fan of her hair here either. Hangs in her face too much. Suit looked comfy though.

Sophia’s dress is pretty, but seems a bit tight in the bodice/sleeve? That couldn’t’ve been comfortable to breathe in! Again, not a pale pink fan myself.

    • minx says:

It was perfection, head to toe.

      • BothSidesNow says:

Yes, Yara is perfection on her own, but certainly brought it up to an excellent level!!! Yara was and is what we should celebrate and show appreciation for!!

  2. Zen says:

Yes stunning, yes perfect. Yara nailed it.

    • Snappyfish says:

Stunning & perfect on Sunday & was stunning & perfect last Monday at the Met Gala. I loved her in Butter. See it if you haven’t. Adorable. It’s quite possibly the little girl from Butter grew up to be perfect.

  3. Elizabeth Regina says:

    Love Yara’s style and poise

  4. AVEA says:

    Yara looks amazing OMG 👁️👄👁️

  5. Lizzie says:

    Best of the night.

  6. ABritGuest says:

Yara won the red carpet two events in a row (Met gala). Her and Zendaya are giving lewks

  7. Sofia says:

    Lovely dress and colour.

  8. Southern Fried says:

Yara’s necklace reminds me of the two Marie Antoinette bracelets that were auctioned off recently. Breathtaking

  9. Alexandria says:

Royals should dress like this. Stunning.

  10. TigerMcQueen says:

This was one of my favorite looks of the night. Yara looked gorgeous.

I also want a necklace like that, even if the only place I’ll wear it is in my dining room (working from home still) or running to the grocery store lol.

  11. HandforthParish says:

    Yara looks perfect!
The 50s dress is so elegant, and that colour looks gorgeous on her.
Shoes and jewellery totally compliment the dress.

  12. Ninks says:

My favourite look of the night by far.

Sophia’s look is pretty but bland but it looks really boring in direct comparison to Yara.

  13. Case says:

I adore this look. Very Evelyn Hugo.

  14. terra says:

I love this, to a point. It’s very classic The New Look Dior, but the belt! I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of belts on the other Dior looks on carpet, but here we are. The styling is excellent, however. 10/10 on the score.

Speaking of fit, the bodice on Sophia Bush’s Markarian gown is a nightmare! She looks like she can’t breathe, the poor thing.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ terra, poor Sophia does look like she is being cut in half. Though I do like the design of the dress, I don’t care for the the color. Though it’s much, much better than Kaley. The only time the color that Kaley wore should see the light of day is on a float, going downtown.

      • terra says:

@BothSidesNow: Well, we completely agree on both Sophia and Kaley, lol. Sophia is so washed out. She’s so pretty! Why do these beautiful people hamstring themselves with such terrible formalwear, I wonder?

And, yeah, I hated everything about Kaley’s look, too – the cut, the fit, the styling. It was all awful. And the color looked dreadful on her . . . but I like the color in general.

I am a yellow fan, I admit it. I just can’t help myself, I love it.

It does look awful on most people, I freely admit that too. Thanks to my neutral undertoned pale skin, I get away with it despite my red hair, although I buy other shades of yellow, not chartreuse – the only chartreuse in my closet comes from hand-me-downs from my grandmother’s fancy and moneyed years in the 1970s and early 1980s when she was married.

  15. mellie says:

Yara’s dress/jewelry was definitely my favorite look out of all. It was all put together beautifully.

  16. Veronica S. says:

I might have gone with a metallic pump instead of brown satin, but I can see why they may have wanted to not draw too much attention to the hemline. It’s a very lovely retro cut, though. She looks gorgeous. Perfect fashion moment.

    • Debbie says:

I get what you’re saying about metallic pumps but I actually admire the restraint in the styling. Otherwise, she would be shining at the neck (w/ statement jewelry) and at the feet. That dress deserved attention w/o competing with another element.

  17. josephine says:

I don’t get the fit of Sophia’s dress. An extra centimeter would have been so much more flattering. As is it is giving a weird shape to her bust and it looks like she can’t breathe. Pink is super unforgiving so super tight just does not work.

  18. Normades says:

Gorgeous, definitely one of the best. The color is beautiful and everything is so put together.

  19. lucy2 says:

Yara is absolute perfection. That dress is gorgeous. It’s classic but not at all stodgy or old. Stunning.
I love Sophia and think she has one of the most naturally beautiful faces in the industry (plus she seems pretty awesome as a person) but that dress is not my favorite.

  20. Sudie says:

I literally gasped when Yara walked out on stage, that was the most beautiful dress of the night and maybe I’ve seen in a long while. She was absolutely perfect in every aspect. The necklace was a stunner and was the perfect accessory. She stole the show!

  21. Diamond Rottweiler says:

Probably an unpopular opinion, and Yara would be stunning in a paper sack, but the shape and fit of her Dior are a hair’s breadth off. The waist is sloppy and the gown would’ve slayed with a fuller crinoline to make it look like the call back it is to post war Dior. I suppose they think it’s modern to reinterpret that iconic shape in a looser way but it reads as deflated to me without the clean, floaty lines and snatched waist that dress wants. BUT the color on her is indeed glorious.

    • HoofRat says:

Seconded. Though she is ridiculously gorgeous, the fit of the dress needed some tweaking. And stunning though the necklace is, I find it too heavy for a dress with sleeves or straps. I think something more delicate with drops would have worked better.

  22. August Rain says:

I have to be the voice of dissent here. I dislike Shahidi’s dress – although the colour looks lovely on her. This kind of retro dress feels regressive to me, it makes me think of uncomfortable undergarments, spiky breasts and, with all that, the idea of what a dress is for a 5 year old child (wide, princessy skirt).
The colour is glorious and the pockets are a joy but all the rest is a missed opportunity to explore a contemporary style to me.

  23. tamsin says:

Stunning and elegant in color and design. Love the tea length, and considering the other gowns, probably one of the more comfortable to sit in. I personally love this silhouette because I find it very feminine and elegant.

  24. K says:

I am obsessed by Yara. What a rare beauty.

  25. NCWoman says:

Yara looks like a full-fledged movie star. Sophia looks uncomfortable and sausage-y with that set-in belt cutting her in half. It makes her look stuffed into the top of her dress,

  26. HeyJude says:

This is a very old Hollywood Edith Head type gown, but she makes it youthful and fresh. That’s not easy to do and she pulls it off.

  27. Cara says:

Yes! Yara looked stunning and perfect!!
    My favorite of the night.

  28. Debbie says:

Kudo to Yara S., as a young person w/ a great figure, for dressing classically and not showing all her wares. Having said that, the style makes her look much older than she is, and the pulled back hair and heavy matronly jewelry is adding to that effect. The color looks very vibrant on her though.

  29. eliza james says:

Yara is PERFECTION. In every way.

  30. LesRob says:

The green reminds me of Grace Kelly in Rear Window and the shape does bring Hepburn to mind. Yara looks beautiful.

  31. Penguin says:

Yara would look stunning in anything, but I would’ve loved her in something a bit younger and more modern. It’s a lovely dress, but it’s just a bit dowdy. The colour is gorgeous on her though.
