Prince Harry & William to reunite for the Diana Awards in December?

Diana's 60th birthday

Back in July, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that Prince William and Prince Harry got through the statue-unveiling event without any drama on the day. The melodrama had been built up in the weeks leading up to the July 1st unveiling of the Diana statue in the garden of Kensington Palace. Almost all of the drama was on William’s side though, as Kate and the Middletons waged a very public campaign in the media to convince William to allow Kate to come to the event and act as the keen peacemaking linchpin. William refused, and instead of a Kate-centered narrative, the unveiling actually showed that William and Harry are perfectly capable of being civil to one another for a limited amount of time, and specifically when honoring their late mother. Speaking of, Eden Confidential has a curious claim: apparently, Harry and William are set to reunite in person in December for the Diana Awards.

The last time Prince William came face to face with his brother, he could scarcely bear to look the Duke of Sussex in the eye. Now, however, they’re putting their differences aside to honour their late mother. The boss of the scheme set up to celebrate the life of Princess Diana has revealed that the warring brothers will be reunited at a prize-giving ceremony in December.

Prince Harry could even bring Meghan and their baby daughter, Lilibet, who has still not met any other members of the Royal Family.

‘We’re delighted that we still have the support of the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex,’ Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award, tells me. The 2021 Legacy Award will be held at Althorp, the Northamptonshire stately home where Diana grew up, and her brother, Earl Spencer, will act as host. Ojo, who attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding, has a key role in helping reunite the Princes, as the Diana Award (to foster and develop positive change in the lives of young people) is one of the few things they still have in common.

‘Right now we’re the only charity that has both of them involved,’ Ojo says. ‘It really is a privilege.’

Speaking at the Dress for Success launch in Notting Hill, Ojo tells me the brothers are determined to honour Diana. ‘To us, it doesn’t matter where in the world they are,’ she says. ‘They are jointly committed to the awards. The Dukes will be heavily involved as it will be a whole week of events, so they are eager to take part.’

They’ve agreed a new five-year plan for the charity, Ojo adds: ‘It was a strategy that was put forward by the Duke of Cambridge, and we had the Duke of Sussex support that.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Richard Eden made a few references to the idea that William “couldn’t look at Harry” and that William “hardly spoke to Harry” during the statue unveiling. Which… isn’t true. Members of the media weren’t even there at the event, and a sole in-house photographer was present to document the unveiling, and the photos were released through Kensington Palace. The photos showed that the brothers were looking at each other and talking and Harry even seemed to be making some jokes and taking it all very gracefully. My point? Despite the negativity from British columnists, I actually think William and Harry can do these kinds of structured, limited events together, especially when it’s about their mother. Now, will Harry use this as an excuse to bring Meghan and the kids for a visit? Probably.

How many times are they going to describe these two as reuniting?

  2. Abby says:

If I were Harry, I wouldn’t be bringing my kids and wife back to that island until MAYBE the Queen passes. Maybe.

That family (and the media that they give free rein to) has proven to be unsafe and actively working to harm his wife and children. I do not see him subjecting them to any of the BRF anytime soon.

    • Sunshine says:

I agree Abby. It definitely feels unsafe for the children in particular.

    • Eurydice says:

I wonder – the optics are different now and the RF wants to be seen as welcoming and “very not racist.” Plus deals with Amazon and Disney+ – there are incentives to make everyone behave better. And, of course, H&M have a home in the US to go back to.

    • STRIPE says:

I’m not so much afraid for her safety, I’m sure they have security abound..but I just wouldn’t come back if I were her. After all of what they put her through? Not only will it be a miserable time, I’m sure they’ll say she stole the spotlight from the Queen or whatever and hate on her for that for years. No thank you. Harry can go back on his own just fine.

    • Jan90067 says:

Actually, I could see Harry doing it WHILE TQ is alive, and NOT when she passes. She is the ONLY one he seems to talk to really. While I really can’t see them schlepping an infant and toddler on a 13 1/2 hr. flight, even private, IF they did, I’m sure they’d go under the radar, stay in Frogmore, see Ol’ Brenda in PRIVATE, and the minute the award show is over, jet back out. Doubt they’d spend one more min. than they’d have to.

But I’m more of a mind that Harry, IF he goes, will go alone.

    • 2tall4u2 says:

Agreed. I hope Meg and the kids never step foot on salty isle unless the RF issue a public apology and admit to all the lies racist shit they themselves leaked and approved of. Until that time they can kick rocks.

  3. Becks1 says:

The statute unveiling ended up being interesting in the week leading up to it because like Kaiser said, the drama ended up being about Kate and the Middletons. Harry did his thing, showed up for his mother’s memory, then peaced out and let William deal with his wife and in-laws.

I would not be surprised if Harry attends something for the Diana awards, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he appeared remotely. I am rolling my eyes in advance at the next few months of “WILL HARRY BE THERE?!?!!??!” we had it with the funeral, we had it with the statute, and now we’ll have it with this.

    • JT says:

I’ll be loving the “will Harry be there” coverage because it shows, once again , that The Other Brother will always be an afterthought.

  4. Rapunzel says:

I’m guessing this will go the way of the supposed 2nd statue event? The one that was supposed to happen this month and clearly isn’t?

  5. Snuffles says:

I’m convinced that the RRs look at the royal calendar of events and pull out which ones might have a chance of Harry coming back to the UK. Then speculate wildly until the day comes. They have to fill their papers with something. They’re that desperate.

They know nothing. And just because it’s the Diana Award, it doesn’t mean that Harry is compelled to be there in person. I remain skeptical.

    • JT says:

Wasn’t Harry the only one doing things for these awards anyway? For the past two years it’s been Harry giving speeches on behalf of the organization, while TOB was nowhere to be seen. Now they bare both boing to be involved. When was the last time William did anything for the Diana Awards?

  6. Neners says:

Kicking the ol’ can to December now, are we? I’ll believe it when I see it! At least the Diana Awards is a better reason than most given!

    • Snuffles says:

Yup. I wonder if Kensington Palace keeps telling the RRs what they want to hear only to back off on it at the latest possible moment.

    • 2tall4u2 says:

But didn’t Haz attend a Diana Awards event prior to unveiling the statue? They moved it from Sept to June so he could attend?

  7. HeatherC says:

It was strange wording for me, could bring Meghan and their daughter Lilibet. I guess Archie can fend for himself? Set him up with some juice boxes and Poptarts and they’ll be back lol?

Oh I forgot, Lilibet is supposed to save the monarchy or something.

I hope Meghan and the kids don’t go. Let Harry do his thing and leave, like he did for the statue unveiling.

    • Lizzie says:

Not to be a debbie downer but I think the pandimic will be bad again this winter (hope to be wrong). They won’t take the kids anywhere.
Pretty funny the dumb ‘writer’ only mentioned Lili.

  8. Crowned Huntress says:

I hope Harry skypes in and calls it a day. England is in a crisis as we speak with petrol & food shortages because they shot themselves in both feet with Brexit.

The less drama for the Sussexes the better. Imagine if he got stuck on Salty Island because there wasn’t enough fuel to fly back home or something ridiculous.

His family have proven themselves to be both untrustworthy & dangerous, so the less time spent in their presence while they gnash their teeth as his success the better.

  9. Sofia says:

Considering it’s to do with Diana, I can see him come to this but I can also see him deciding to Zoom in or do a pre recorded speech. Meghan and the kids coming? Not so much (but I don’t think a trip to the UK for Meghan is completely impossible despite what some want to think)

  10. Layla says:

Harry can behave himself and act like a man. It’s incandescent tantrum baby you have to watch out for

  11. Murphy says:

Bill really needs to do a better job of muzzling his mother in law.

  12. LP says:

Here we go another will they or won’t they. Watch for a million stories in the next few months about why they should or shouldn’t go or how dare they want to see the Queen blah blah! More clickbait for the RRs. As we’ve seen before no one knows their plans. Whatever they do only Harry and Meghan know what is best for their family.

  13. Amy Bee says:

It doesn’t sound like Harry will be there in person. Eden has no way of knowing what Harry’s plans are but he’s hungry for Meghan and Lili to go to the UK. No mention of Archie, which tells me that like the family the press has concerns about Lili’s skin colour.

  14. Jaded says:

I’m sure Keen will try to hijack the event as ‘The Great Peacemaker and FFQC’ if she’s invited. And I can’t imagine Meghan wanting to step back into that pit of vipers, but we all know she has the grace and aplomb to carry it off effortlessly if she did.

  15. LP says:

Here we go again with the will they or won’t they!! Just like for Christmas we’ll get a million stories about how they are abandoning the queen of how dare they show up blah blah!! Whatever gets the clicks for them. The story is very general and has no specific mention of Harry being there. No one knows the Sussexes plans as we’ve seen. Ultimately Harry and Meghan know what’s best for their family whether it’s flying in or staying.

  16. tamsin says:

I don’t see anywhere in Ojo’s remarks that Harry will be there in person. She states that the awards has the support of both brothers, and that they are both involved. This is a case of the media projecting their wishes on Harry. And to refer to Ojo as “the boss of the scheme” is supremely disrespectful, especially when she said no such thing as the brothers “uniting.”
I’d be very surprised if the Sussexes decide to fly to Britain with their children for this event. I’d be really surprised to read that the Sussex family is travelling to Europe before 2022. And how much more can they milk this “brothers uniting” story?

  17. AmelieOriginal says:

Actually, William and Harry weren’t interacting all that much one on one at the statue unveiling if you go back and watch the video of the event that cuts out Harry as much as possible. The videographer mostly followed William and cut Harry out of most shots, we mostly get to stare at the back of William’s bald head. The videographer was clearly told to only follow William as much as possible because William is petty and wants to punish his brother. And he was perfectly okay using his mother’s statue unveiling to do this. Harry is cut out of the frame for most of the walk up to the statue where you see William and Harry mingling with the other guests and talking to them, only appearing when he’s talking to someone so close to William that it would look stupid to only show half of Harry’s body which is when they use the wider camera shot. However the photographer present clearly didn’t care about that so in the pictures yes, we see them constantly next to each other. But you watch that video, you get the sense William is still trying to cut his brother out as much as possible and erase him.

However for the Diana awards in December, I don’t think William can get away with the cr@p he pulled at the unveiling. Althorp isn’t a royal residence and it seems Charles Spencer is pretty involved in it. The whole focus is the recipients of the award, so William won’t be able to tell videographers to only focus on him.

  18. Dee says:

Wouldn’t be surprised if Harry manages to do a version of the awards in the US. No need to cross the pond to find worthy recipients.

  19. Margaret says:

I am sorry, but I CAN NOT STAND WILLIE. He is sickening and a hateful bully. A pathetic individual. The levels his bullying with his henchmen in tow is not normal, or sane. Good luck uk in your future with that piece of work, and the mean girlie.

  20. WintryMix says:

The quote from the org specifically says “it doesn’t matter where in the world they are” when speaking of their commitment to the awards. That makes it sound more like Harry is NOT coming back in person but will speak remotely, join via Zoom, etc.

  21. Margaret says:

Oh and I truly hope meghan doesn’t return to the uk, unless there is respect given to her, and the children. By tto address he BRF, RR, MSM, and carnival of so called royal experts, on the same global stage they have used to tear them down.
Harry can run back and forth if he wants to but, eventually he will need to address publicly the bullies who are attacking his wife,Iike pig moron, and others. They should not be allowed to keep attacking his wife, he needs to speak up in defense of her, and publicly.

  22. Catherine says:

William and Harry haven’t had a joint Diana Awards event in years. It seems like they have basically been alternating. Tessy Ojo doesn’t say what Eden claims she said. At no point does she confirm anything specific about the December ceremony. She just emphasized that the Award still had both their support. The carnival look like fools because they were making all these predictions for September that have been exposed as baseless speculation so now they are moving on to future events. The big question is whether or not William will try to make it a Rota access event. As with the unveiling, I think Harry will resist that.

  23. Charm says:

The Sussexes will NOT be in little ol’ england in December, no matter how much contemptible bastards like eden wet his pants at his favorite pipe dream.

Heres the tell: “‘To us, it doesn’t matter where in the world they are,’ [Ojo] says.
Translation: H will participate in the Diana Awards from his home country, just as he did in 2019 and 2020.

  24. Jay says:

I would certainly expect that the brothers can keep it together for the sake of a short event honouring their late mother, and that’s basically what we saw when Harry was there, yet this guy (Eden) keeps mentioning that William couldn’t meet his brother’s eyes??? Wouldn’t that be a knock on William, unable to even pretend to be cordial, rather than Harry? That seems like an odd detail.
