Duchess Kate in Jenny Packham at the 007 premiere: Dynasty vibes?

World Premiere of No Time To Die on Tuesday 28 September 2021

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the big Royal Albert Hall premiere of No Time To Die, the latest James Bond movie. A missed opportunity to call it No Time To Keen: Quantum of Cambridge. This is Daniel Craig’s last outing as Bond, and the film’s release was delayed a whole year because of the pandemic. Bond movies almost always get big royal premieres, and Bill and Cathy attended the Spectre premiere in 2015… with Prince Harry. William and Harry attended the premiere of Quantum of Solace back in the day as well. So, royal attendance was announced and it happened and here we are. Whew.

Kate wore a custom Jenny Packham gown which probably cost more than £2,800. She accessorized with a mountain of wiglets and £290 Onitaa earrings (which I genuinely like). I’m fine with the energy behind this look, which was: gold, glamour, big hair, statement earrings, keen, sparkly, fun! Now, did it work? Eh. The dress had a great fit but there’s a reason why Kate usually doesn’t pull out these kinds of looks for the handful of black-tie events she attends: she can’t pull it off. That’s why she usually wanders around in lace doilies and button-slathered coatdresses. She doesn’t know how to do “glamour,” so she does Dynasty and Diana-homages. With this hairpiece-heavy hairstyle, I feel like Kate was also going for some Queen Padme Realness.

A note about the cape… the last event the Duchess of Sussex attended at the Royal Albert was the charity event for the Royal Marines in March 2020. Meghan wore a Safiyaa gown in brilliant red and the gown… had a built in-cape. CopyKeen Kate, once again.

In case you were curious about Camilla’s look, she wore Bruce Oldfield. I’ve seen her look a lot better! This is doing her no favors and the material is too stiff, it looks like a tent. I wonder if Charles’ ass hurt when people were more interested to see Kate?

Actually loved this whole look, dress, cape and hair! It’s the first time I’ve looked at something Kate has worn and thought I’d love that, if I wasn’t such a stumpy dumpling with no premieres to attend of course.

    • Erica says:

Yeah, I just wish I had the opportunity to attend one of these premieres and get all dolled up. What she is wearing actually looks comfortable too.

      • Snappyfish says:

I think she looked great but was more there for George Russell. Christian Horner & Ginger Spice looked great but he looked “greater”

Did think it was funny that Lawrence Strolls date looked younger than Lance’s did

    • HandforthParish says:

Same. She normally looks quite parochial at red carpet events (there was only one decent look- I seem to remember a one-shouldered dress that looked quite good) but this is proper glam.
The cut really suits her physique too, and the make-up works well.
Interestingly in the UK they mention how much the earrings cost, not the dress.

By the way Lashana Lynch looked amazing in a canary dress.

    • Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

I agree! Last night, a friend sent me a photo of Kate chatting with Daniel Craig, captioned: you may actually like this! And it took me a moment to realize the Krystal Carrington awesome-ness was Kate. Lol. I wish she’d get more glam and ‘fashion’ like this more often, but I agree with other commentators here that she hasn’t really got a fashion sense. Pity.

    • Lizzie says:

I feel like you see this dress coming and going at every award show since Diana wore it at a Bond premier. The cape plus shoulders give a very boxy look.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Kate looks very very good here. The last time she look this good was when she was at the EACH charity benefit at Houghton Hall hosted by the Cholmondeleys and she was also wearing a Jenny Packham dress. IMPO, the whole key to this dress looking so good is the immaculate fit. Also, the heaviness of the dress makes Kate look less anorexic.

I really think Kate deserves 10 out of 10 marks for this look.

      • Lucy says:

This is my favorite look of hers ever, and I still don’t like the hair 😂. The heavy beading makes her look fashionable instead of too thin. I give her two claps.

      • Anners says:

I agree! I think she looks absolutely stunning. Her hair looks good, her face seems fuller? Pinker? Happier? I dunno – she’s glowing, though. And the dress is stunning. I would 100% wear this if I were tall, slender, and had a premiere to attend

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        BayTampaBay Lucy
I agree she looks great. The extra hair for styling. The heavy, professional makeup. The photoshop. The bespoke or heavily customized glamour gown. It all helps her look like a younger, healthier version of herself.
        She’s never looked this good.

    • Mira says:

I love everything about this look.

    • minx says:

The dress is beautiful although I don’t like the square shoulders, but that’s just me. Her posture is still terrible.

      • Green Desert says:

@Minx the posture really gets me, too. The dress is beautiful but to fully pull it off you need to stand up straight and confident. People had to have said something to her about this over the years!

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Minx, I just watched her walking the carpet as they featured it on the news. While watching her she walk the carpet, she seemed to have a permanent forward droop in her shoulders. I had never seen it before, but the cut of the dress made it much more prominent than past views I have seen. Now, I don’t go out of my way to pay attention to her, but I remembered the comments. It is startling how prominent it was last night. I never knew it was that noticeable until I saw her walk. That girl needs yoga or something, IDK.

      • Nic919 says:

I noticed the stoop as well in the video. She’s not even 40 so it’s not good that she has kyphosis so young.

      • Margaret says:

I think the dress is fabulous, and she could have looked fabulous in it but after all these years she still hasn’t had the necessary deportment lessons I have been yelling at my computer screen about all these years. She still slouches! As Green Desert says, to pull off this look you need to stand up straight and confident. With all the resources available to her, why on earth has Kate still not grasped this fact and dealt with it?

    • Robyn says:

This is easily the best she’s ever looked imo. I hope she sticks with this trend.

      • Tessa says:

She looked better in pastel chiffons and the black gown she wore early in the marriage. This gold gown was too over the top.

    • aang says:

I love this look. I wish we could all dress like we live in the Dynasty universe everyday!

    • MissMarirose says:

I completely agree. This whole look is a win from head to toe. It’s pure glamour. Good for her for pulling out all the stops for Daniel Craig’s swan song as Bond. He deserves it. (I also loved his outfit.)

    • Elisa the I. says:

same, I love everything about this look, even the hair – she went all in with the 80s Dynasty vibes.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

She looks like the Oscars statuette. Enormous fail.

      • BothSidesNow says:

That was my first impression when I saw a picture last night! And I thought her hair was an enormous mistake. Was she hiding biscuits in there? From the back photos, you could see the pins, and it didn’t look finished, polished. I did like the earrings though!

      • Lorelei says:

@AndrewsNemesis/@BothSidesNow, I was so relieved to see your comments because I’ve been starting to feel insane!! Like I was looking at completely different photos than everyone else.

As soon as I saw the first photo last night, my immediate reaction was “heinous.” But then on Twitter it seemed like everyone absolutely loved it. A combination of morbid curiosity and insomnia led me to read some of the comments on WhatKateWore, and there were a few others who disliked it, but most were raving about it.

One commenter on WKW loved it so much that she wept. Yes you read that correctly, she WEPT over Kate in this dress. That was my cue to getTF off of that website.

This was my favorite tweet about it 😂

        https://twitter.com/Nivo_Tweeter/status/1442919706151714816?s=20

      • Nic919 says:

@lorelei, this was discussed in the fake eyelash thread but take a look at who is praising the dress so much and you will notice they are unfamiliar names. Someone worked hard to try to change opinions on this site today.

    • LeaTheFrench says:

I think the dress looked great on her – it’s the combination with the overworked hairdo that’s undermining the glamour. It needed more movement and fluidity to balance the dress.

    • DuchessL says:

I said she was gonna go xtra xtra! There’s something different about her face – botox – and the dress is beautiful except it doesnt fit her vibe.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Her face looks really jacked, and that is distracting me from the rest of her look. My own face hurts just looking at her.

      • Amy Too says:

It’s the filler in the lower half of her face that makes me feel like I’m looking at a completely different person. She suddenly looks like she gained 20 pounds just based on her face, but the rest of her is still as tiny as ever. When she came back for that airfield event after summer vacation, I thought she was pregnant based on how full her face is looking now. I’ve actually never seen someone’s face expand like that without being pregnant. And I feel a little bit like a crazy person because everyone else is saying she looks glowing or well rested as if they can’t quite put their finger on what’s different but maybe she just got a facial or something recently, and here I am, unable to notice anything but the totally different face shape.

      • Nic919 says:

Her face is shiny from all the botox and fillers. That is what she did in the 66 days she hid from society and did sweet eff all.

    • popsicle_vp says:

I hate the hair. Come at me.

    • Mustang Sally says:

I thought she looked lovely. Regal, smiling and very well fitted up.

    • Charliethecat says:

I am not a Kate stan at all. But she looks absolutely lovely in this gown. And she looks like she is having a good time. And sometimes in the gossip world, we just need to put aside all of the nonsense about Cambridges vs Sussexes and allow the woman, who I agree, wouldn’t be my favourite SIL, a moment. That’s it. It doesn’t mean I forgive her for the mean girl crap that went on when Meghan was in England. It just means I am not going to niggle and find faux criticism.

No it just means I recognize that she looks great and she’s having a nice time.

    • Escondista says:

LOVE the dress, hair is okay, but the makeup is positively matronly.

  2. Dlc says:

The hairdo was pretty ornate, princessey, even, but I think most would admit she looks very beautiful.

    • Lady Esther says:

I’d like to see that softer hairstyle with her tiara, rather than the horrible updos she usually wears with the tiara slid back so far it’s practically falling off of her head!

    • Puppydrum says:

The hair for me. The first thing I thought of was Liz Taylor circa the first Richard Burton era/Cleopatra. It was just too stilted. Otherwise she looked good, really good.

    • GRUEY says:

I’ve been thinking about what hair would work. You’d have to try a few looks but I think a center part and very straight hair, either down or in a bun would work. But that would be way to Meghan.

      • Jan90067 says:

You need a MUCH sleeker hairdo with this outfit to keep it modern. Kate’s wearing a Grandma From the 1930’s do does her no favors.

Also her makeup is neither here nor there. Her brows were heavier and she’s wearing some weird false lashes, but the liner (for once!) is “off”, and the pinky nude lip doesn’t go with the gold dress. Should’ve been a dramatic eye and a real nude lip, or less eye and a bold lip. This is a half in half out attempt.

Also, the dress is SO busy with the metallics, she didn’t need those dangly earrings. They’re nice, but with a different outfit. A simple stud or *small* drop would’ve been better, and not “compete” with the dress.

The dress is GORGEOUS, and for once, it does fit to perfection. But no one is seeming to mention that when she moves, you can practically see through it up to her hooha. The lining is pretty sheer!

Funny what Khate can get away with and NO ONE says a word. And yes, that custom dress cost A LOT more than £2800. A LOT.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

A large, low chignon would have been perfect. Modern glamor.

      • Anon says:

Have to agree with everything Jan90067 said. I see most like the earrings but I thought they looked horrible with the dress. The dress fit perfectly – like others have said she just needs to stand up straight. That picture of the fab 4 (lol) reminds me how short Charles and Cams are……

    • Lizzie says:

The wig was matronly when Princess Margaret first wore it.

      • NiqGee says:

This is how I feel. She’s an attractive woman in general so most things fit her well but I think I’m in the minority because I don’t love this look at all.

I like all the elements individually but I think put together they make her look old.

    • aang says:

I think the shoulder pads require the more substantial hairdo. I don’t love it but a sleek bun would have made her head look small against the wide shoulders. Just my opinion.

  3. Erica says:

I like the whole look, which I didn’t expect!

    • Bettyrose says:

IKR? Something is different about Kate. She looks glamorous, relaxed, and happy in these photos.

      • booboocita says:

She’s glamorous, relaxed, and happy because nothing else is expected of her. She doesn’t have to meet and greet powerful world leaders — just actors, producers, and “Hollywood types.” And she doesn’t have to say much to them, or impress them with her knowledge or understanding of anything. She doesn’t have to make a speech — just small talk. This is her wheel well: a fabulously attired, glamorous doll with nothing substantive to contribute other than looks. She looks smashing, no denying it. But this is as good as it gets.

    • Jen says:

      She looks beautiful, I agree!

  4. Pao says:

I can’t lie. I dislike kate. But this dress is stunning and she looks beautiful (the hair could have been a bit smoother). It therefore pleases me that even when she pulls out all the stops— and appears on every frontpage of every UK newspaper— people still don’t care. Because if my observations are correct she didn’t trend once.

    • JT says:

Which she should be happy with. Focus on your own kingdom and be content to be on all of the front page rags, who will call her an asset just for more Diana cosplay. She, or any other royal, shouldn’t be looking across the pond for attention. Just stay in your lane.

      • Tangerinetree says:

I came here to say just that. She looks absolutely gorgeous. This is her apex type of event. Stay in that lane and thrive. Kate and Camilla can duke it out by a fountain Dynasty style as to who gets to be the next Queen Consort. Shutter island press, here you go. Enjoy.

      • Tessa says:

I don’t think the outfit was all that. And it reminded me when she wore the bright red dress during one of the Queen’s Jubilee. It screamed pay attention to me.

    • Annie says:

      She did trend.

  5. Moderatelywealthy says:

This is just s feeling I have, and I feel there is am hierarchy of galas.

Award shows/ Greal Balls like the Met are at the top, then you have movie festivals/ fashion weeks and then movie premieres…

This is to say, I think Kate is a bit overdressed in the sense she is making a statement and a movie premiere is not the place to make statements, like you would at the MetGala for instance

It is like she decided this was HER day and went overkill….other than that, I do think she looks fine. It just goes to add on my theory Kate had re negotiated with Will and has been feeling more secure now

    • HandforthParish says:

Bond is a national treasure in Britain, it’s the end of a Bond era and the film has been delayed so long…
I think they were going for a big morale boosting ‘Britain is great’ night. Considering the shit that is going on in the country at the moment the press and news have been all over this.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Agree! This not just any old movie premier; This is THE JAMES BOND movie premier in the UK. (James Bond is the most successful film franchise EVER)

As HandforthParish stated above, “Bond is a national treasure in Britain”. I thoroughly understand why Kate pulled out all the stops for this event. I would have done the exact same thing.

      • SarahCS says:

While I agree on the Bond point, that’s all about (orange!) DC showing up in pink velvet. The BRF are not the morale boost they think they are and they are not the stars of this show (which they think they are). So I get why they did it but am totally meh about their presence.

    • Seaflower says:

+1. The dress was gorgeous but OTT for a movie premiere. I’d expect that for some huge fundraising/diplomatic event. Edited to add: Diana could pull this off with ease. K doesn’t have the presence.

      • Seraphina says:

@seaflower, I agree that the dress is over the top. It screams look at me and the event is not about her.

    • Seaflower says:

@Seraphina Agreed, but is always about her – Philip’s funeral, Diana’s statue, etc etc. She doesn’t get it.

  6. Belli says:

It’s a very “This is MY night!” gown.

I really like it. The hair not so much. But I can’t help but imagine this dress on someone with a bit of attitude and it would be a showstopper.

  7. Eenie Googles says:

Love dress, despise hair, earrings are too much with everything else going on. .

  8. Lady Esther says:

I thought she looked simply gorgeous. Stunning gown that fit her perfectly (in color and fit), appropriate to the occasion and her age, hair, makeup and jewelry were on point, no unncessary accessories like a clutch. Wish we could have seen the shoes. I thought the vibes were more 70s Studio 54 with the softly tousled hair, boho earrings and gold sequined dress; I got a whiff of Bianca Jagger in this ensemble. Best of all, she was wearing the dress for once, rather than letting the dress wear her. Brava!

    • Becks1 says:

It’s funny you say that because my initial thought last night was that the dress was totally wearing her lol.

      • Merricat says:

        Lol

      • Angelica Schuyler says:

I totally agree with you Becks.

      • Liz version 700 says:

I totally agree Becks. The dress was very pretty and fit her so well. But it was like the dress overwhelmed her. I hated the hair too, but she looked good. I feel like this is a state dinner dress, a bit much for a premier. Now the red dress this was copied from, perfect for this locale. But by far a better effort. Camilla, oh my … that dress is horrid.

    • Jais says:

For some reason, in a profile pic, she was giving me Priscilla Presley vibes. Not a bad thing lol. I thought she looked good, really liked the earrings. Don’t love the hair though.

    • Lady D says:

She had sparkly gold pumps on last night. You can see the toe of a shoe in one of the pictures.

  9. Winnie says:

The dress is great but it looks like someone just attached a giant wig to her head and forgot to do much with it?

  10. Splinter says:

Oh, they are feeling the heat, right? Really putting in some effort. Elaborate hairstyle instead of curls, a glamorous dress.. And all the gushing in DM – the couple were beaming, grinning and dazzling, Kate was complimented by Bond himself and, didn’t you know, she has affectionate bond with Charles!

  11. Traci says:

The dress is gorgeous but it’s wearing her. Not the other way around. And she’s such a beautiful woman. She needs a better stylist.

    • souperkay says:

Agree. She does not stand with any confidence & it sucks the life out of the look.

    • ABritGuest says:

I agree. I really do give her props for switching it up & giving the press & firm the glamour moment they wanted but she doesn’t have the presence for this very dazzling dress. Compare with Tracey Ellis Ross who wore a very similar dress at the Oscars.

And the hair really made it look matronly. It was giving 80s older beauty pageant host. I think the look would have slayed if she had a sleek ponytail or hair down but to the side and no hunch. A for effort though.

    • SarahCS says:

This is my take. She brings nothing to the party so it’s all about the dress and wig. She’s just holding them up.

    • Joy says:

Agree. She’s tall and slender and COULD BE statuesque but somehow falls flat.

    • Sophie says:

If she would just freakin’ stand up straight, it would help tremendously.

  12. Sofia says:

I love the dress. I love the detailing. Yes it’s very 80s Dynasty but I love it. I also like the hair. I thought it was good to see her in something more different than what she currently does. I loved the earrings too.

However, with a dress like this, you really need confidence and a big personality to pull it off because it’s so easy to get lost in a dress like this. And Kate does. Hence why the dress is wearing her instead of her wearing the dress and it’s overwhelming her completely.

It’s the right dress on the wrong woman.

    • Becks1 says:

I do love the detailing on it, and I do love the earrings. But like you said, she can’t really pull it off – lack of confidence, lack of personality, lack of….something?

I said to Lorelei last night on twitter that I could totally see Angelina Jolie in this dress (maybe in silver, not gold) on the red carpet or the Oscars or something and she would NAIL it.

      • Sofia says:

I agree that Angelina could pull this off. And as someone said below, surprisingly, I think JLo could pull this off too. Like you and me said, you really need personality and a large presence to pull this off and Kate does not. Which is fine because I don’t think I could pull this off – not everyone has a large personality and that’s not a knock on Kate. But like I said, right dress on the wrong woman.

      • Becks1 says:

@Sofia – yup, I could not pull this off! I do not have a great sense of style. I can’t just walk into a store and buy pieces and put them together into a great outfit. When a new trend comes out I have to really pay attention to make sure I’m doing it right, LOL. I’m not that mom who shows up at the bus stop in joggers and cute sneakers and looks like a rock star. (I mean I wear sweats and sneakers but minus the rock star part, lol.)

So its actually something that I’ve always sympathized with Kate – in that she WANTS to carry off these big looks desperately but just can’t. This look requires a lot of personality and a lot of confidence.

      • swirlmamad says:

@Sofia, this is 100% a JLo dress….agree that it IS beautiful, but it’s a lot, especially for someone like Kate who doesn’t have “it” to fully pull it off.

      • Sofia says:

@Becks1: Well you’re already better than me because I don’t even look at the trends lol. If it’s comfortable and I like it, I’m wearing it no matter how old or behind the trends I am. I too cannot just wear sneakers and a tracksuit and still look amazing. For me to look good, I genuinely have to put a lot of effort and am slightly envious of those who can pull of wearing whatever whenever and look fantastic.

      • norah says:

angelina has worn a similar dress at one of her premieres too – different colour

      • Summerlover says:

I think the dress went to the wrong Kate! Cate Blanchett and this dress…now that would be a match made in heaven!

    • Nic919 says:

Jlo has worn a similar style dress and she has the attitude to pull it off. Kate does not. The hair in particular is just awful with all the unneeded hairpieces so she comes off as a former pageant queen with the whole look.

And there is the issue of four royals going to a Bond premiere at a time when the peasants are fighting over fuel. It was already a bit much that they all went and then Kate with this dress really wanted to it all about her and not the actual actors in the film. Seeing as her entire outfit is footed by the taxpayers, is it really the time and place to go all glam when so many people aren’t in a position to just afford regular things?

      • Seraphina says:

@Nic919, I agree with your sentiment. I read the dress cost something like $4000. Which hurts considering what is going on around them.

      • Jan90067 says:

THAT’S what it reminded me of!!! That green plunging dress JLo wore to one of the Oscar shows!! COMPLETE with the big hairdo!! While this one isn’t *as* slit down the front (and of course, slit up to the waist), Kate did manage to get it lined with a sheer fabric to show her legs up to her crotch and let us see the leotard like undies underneath.

And she doesn’t have the aplomb to carry it off with confidence. She schlumped her way through with that horrible, hunched posture.

      • Nyro says:

I was surprised to see that she, along with the other three, is getting a lot of criticism over the extravagance. People were asking why they were using fuel to drive to this even when they could have easily walked.

    • Ginger says:

I agree. Right dress, wrong women. It’s a gorgeous dress and would look stunning on someone that could pull it of but Kate doesn’t appear to have the confidence to pull it off. It’s too much for her, especially when we see her in prairie dresses most of the time.

    • tolly says:

ITA. You need excellent posture to carry off a look like this, but Kate tends to hunch her shoulders and lean forward, especially when she’s walking.

  13. Sure says:

This gold tinsel orgy is what happens when the soap opera villainess from Philip’s funeral decides she wants to emulate a celebrity ballroom dancing contestant. K’s desperate attempt to elevate her image by “dressing up”  again validates Hilary Mantel’s obsevation that she is “a shop-window mannequin, with no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore.” The pricey, OTT costume in the midst of food and fuel shortages has a whiff of Nero fiddling while Rome burned. This is not a good look for tax payer funded K or the tax payer funded monarchy.

    • Becks1 says:

This line from your comment –
” K’s desperate attempt to elevate her image by “dressing up” again validates Hilary Mantel’s obsevation that she is “a shop-window mannequin, with no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore.”

dead on. I mean many of us here thought Mantel hit the nail on the head anyway, but for the doubters out there, here is your mannequin.

    • The Hench says:

Referencing the funeral, I noticed that Chris Jackson was credited with some of the photographs of her at the premiere again. Looks like he has become her personal, travelling photographer .

      • Becks1 says:

She loves him because he does not hesitate to photoshop her, probably because his wife is her PA.

      • The Hench says:

Ooh I didn’t know about the wife connection but yes, he absolutely sets out to make her look as good as possible. That shot he took of her in the car on the way to the funeral was the apogee of that.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

We really need to see her sans Chris Shopped.

      • Nyro says:

Isn’t Chris Jackson the one who took that pic of Meghan at one of the Remembrance Day ceremonies, looking absolutely flawless. So flawless that Kate stans swarmed his Twitter, accusing him of photoshopping her, and when he said the pic was all natural, they ramped up the abuse? Is that the same guy? If so, that pic of Meghan must have really done a number on Kate. I guess she went all “keep your enemies close” on him. Can’t have him photographing Meghan ever again.😂

    • Jan90067 says:

This is really SO true. I can’t believe there isn’t SOMETHING in her closet, accumulated over the last 10 yrs., that we haven’t seen for a long time! Dresses that cost *thousands* of pounds, that were worn only *once*, that couldn’t’ve been schuzzed up or altered a drop if need be.

If I was a Brit I’d be SUCH an anti-Monarchist! Lol

    • Dilettante says:

      @Sure, +1

    • Tessa says:

Yes, people cannot get fuel for the cars I doubt they would be comforted by seeing royals all dressed up in expensive clothing.

  14. MMadison says:

IDK….the poor Brits. If you’re confused today by all the joy over a dress at a movie premiere from Salty Island now you know why a certain Duchess left. To celebrate mediocracy in this manner is embarrassing. But really what else is there to this Duchess but a dress.

  15. Badgerette86 says:

It SCREAMS tacky bedazzled prom dress.

    • L84Tea says:

Thank you. I am pretty stunned by all the gushing of this look (to each their own I guess) because I think this is awful. It’s too 80’s/Bob Mackie/Cher/Prom Queen for me. Gold is tough to pull off, but it can be done with the right amount of sass wearing it. Kate lacks that inner sparkle to wear outer sparkle to this magnitude. And the hair…what in the world???

      • Becks1 says:

oh Cher is another good comparison lol.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

Bob Mackie was totally dynasty wasn’t he? That’s perfect. Though I love the cape dress concept. She looks great in it, but she just doesn’t have the star power to pull it off and it does have prom Mackie vibes on her.

I’m mad about her hair. Why couldn’t she have done some fabulous big hair like JLo or Angelina.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Nolan Miller was the costume designer on Dynasty.

Sharon Stone could pull off this dress no problem even if she was eating a hamburger at McDonald’s.

      • SarahCS says:

I would LOVE to see Cher in this.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

I’m not a fan of her look or dress either.

She would probably get first place in a Party Pieces Pageant though.

    • Myra says:

One, she can’t pull it off. The whole look is wearing her. Most importantly, how Marie-Antoinette of her while the UK is suffering the fallout of Brexit. Honestly, I want to see more faux concern about the cost of the dress, just as there was anytime Meghan wore something expensive. People suddenly have amnesia about their concern for the optics.

      • Seaflower says:

It’s interesting because in the first few years of her marriage when the UK was doing it tough, she wore a lot of clothes from Jigsaw, Zara etc and was celebrated for it. Now the Brits are doing it tougher and she rolls out in this OTT for the event outfit.

      • JT says:

@L84TEA I thought the same thing. Sometimes I feel like I’m looking at a completely different set of pictures, when everyone is gushing about what Kate wore and I’m like….really? I’ll never understand it. It’s like Kate’s “stunning funeral look” that everyone loved but I thought she looked like a granny. I don’t like her in this dress at all. Different strokes I guess.

    • Amy Too says:

I literally LOLed when I saw it and was getting ready for 200 comments of “what is this monstrosity!?” And then everyone…. liked it? I thought it was so over the top tacky and so not a Kate dress. Like she wishes she could pull this dress off, had the type of glamorous celeb status to pull this off, was part of a hot enough couple to pull this off…. but really, she’s there with perpetually pissed off looking William the conservative and then fussy, old, crusty Charles and Camilla! The contradiction between who she wants to be as evidenced by the dress and who she—and this whole family—really is is laughable. She’s a 40 year old woman who had to show up at the party with her husband’s elderly, embarrassingly old fashioned parents because they paid for her entire outfit and the car, and in return, they’d like to see what all the fuss is about, too, and she can’t say no. So now here she is in her glamorous gold “I can be sexy too! I can wear cape dresses too!” gown attempting to catch some of that Harry and Meghan fire, but because she’s not an independent woman who makes her own money, she has to spend the evening posing next to Charles and Camilla as a symbol of a decrepit, old fashioned, dusty, fusty old monarchy. But she’s wearing a gold, see through gown with sparkles like she’s Meghan Fox or something. Like I said, I literally LOLed.

      • JT says:

@Amytoo You’re Meghan Fox reference made me realize that this dress is the classier version of the naked dresses that the Kadashian women of the world just love. I just don’t get the love for this ensemble or the fawning over the very obvious photoshop.

      • Becks1 says:

@AmyToo I am howling at your comment!! You’re completely right.

I said last night on Twitter that this is the kind of look that Kate wants to be able to pull off but she just can’t. My first thought when I saw it was “omg the 70s called” but apparently she’s the epitome of a queen or something lol.

      • L84Tea says:

@Amy, the fawning over Kate today on this site has been….interesting.

      • Waitwhat? says:

This is nothing like a Megan Fox nude dress – it’s not even sheer as far as I can see, but is lined.

    • Flying Fish says:

Exactly. The dress is tacky with a cape to boot…

  16. Who ARE these people? says:

It’s hard to imagine sitting through a movie in a long, heavy, sequinned and beaded gown.

  17. Erica says:

Love the dress, hate the hair.

    • Abby says:

      Agreed. The dress is beautiful.

I also just looked up the Diana premiere photos y’all were talking about and the dress very much looks like Diana’s. Yet again.

  18. Keke says:

    I don’t like the hair.

  19. Becks1 says:

Yes, total dynasty vibes. And total vibes from Diana at A View to a Kill premiere.

and yes, I was saying on twitter last night that’s the issue with this look – Kate can’t pull it off. She doesn’t have “it” and this kind of look requires “it.”

This is also the kind of dress that needed just one fewer element. I think without the cape-sleeves, it would have been a LOT better, as just a sleeveless dress. But then how could she copy Meghan??

Also, last night reminded me of what initially made me start to think “meh” when I thought of Kate – the over the top praise for doing NOTHING. One person said “she looks gorgeous, such an asset to the monarchy.” Because looks are the only things that matter? Someone else said that they WEPT because of how she looked. Really? You wept? Like….get a handle on yourself lady. And so on. That was how I found Celebitchy because I literally thought “I’m so tired of these sites that act like she’s perfect.”

    • Merricat says:

      +1

    • L84Tea says:

Meghan = I helped raise $1B for vaccine equity across the globe in one weekend.

Kate = I’ll show her. I’ll wear the shiniest, sparkliest dress they’ve ever seen!! I’ll win this war with fashion!

Also, just saw footage of WK in Ireland. She’s wearing a black turtleneck. Of course.

    • Nic919 says:

She’s combined elements from two similar Packham dresses which is why it’s too much. There is a cape dress without quite as many of the sparkles and that original version likely would have suited better. Once again when Kate is allowed to customize things that it where she falls. Although the meeting where she demanded more sparklers would have been an interesting one to attend.

And her hairstylist needs to be fired. That was a total mess. It looked like you could find dead mice in there.

      • Rapunzel says:

Nic919- just what I was coming here to say. Once again Kate goes bespoke to avoid anyone knowing the true price of her clothes…. and ruins a designer’s look.

She does this all the time. Either of the two Packham dresses which she “combined” for this dress would’ve looked better than this Dynasty realness.

    • MMadison says:

So the Brits have spent the last several days attempting to court the American people (IMO). They spent hours upon hours telling us that the Montecito Royals DID NOT represent the Royal Family. She was an actress and to “Hollywood”….well last night’s movie premiere was a broke down attempt at imitating Hollywood on so many levels.

      • BayTampaBay says:

        Excellent Point!

      • Jais says:

Interesting article about the capes @courtneyB! Meghan’s caped dresses for some reason stand out more than Kate’s.
And @mmadison, the point you made is one I was thinking when I saw the pics last night. Meghan is denigrated as being an actress and too Hollywood but here’s Kate essentially cosplaying glam Hollywood at a movie premiere. So you can pretend to be one but not actually be one lol.

    • Courtney B says:

Kate has worn a caped dress before. Back in 2018. Plus Meghan’s was more structured whereas both Kate’s have been flowier. But that’s generally true of their style. Meghan’s is much more streamlined which is what I prefer—goes all the way back to their respective wedding dresses . And still one of my favorite looks. Here’s an article about royal women and caped dresses. Quite a few in red and I love every one but I’m a sucker for a good red dress. Some of the only ones Kate’s worn that I’ve liked have been red. Meghan’s on here three times—in red, white and blue. Her red one is reminiscent of letitzia’s (gorgeous and with a killer lip) and Caroline’s but I prefer Meghan’s neckline. It makes it flow so beautifully rather than the usual from the shoulder style.
      https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/g32305928/meghan-markle-kate-middleton-queen-letizia-royal-family-cape-dress-photos/

      • Becks1 says:

Yes, I know that Kate has worn a caped dress before, trust me, I’m not new to royal followers. That was flowier because she was about 6 or 7 months pregnant at the time in Norway. It was a completely different look from this one, which if you took away the sparkles, would be pretty much right up Meghan’s alley, since Meghan has worn caped dresses more often than Kate and more recently. And I stand by my statement that without the caped sleeves, this would be a much better look on her.

      • Courtney B says:

@becks1 I never said you were knew. Just that I disagreed and pointed out Kate had worn a cape so I don’t think it was copying Meghan. Just a different opinion. I know she was pregnant but that didn’t make her wear the cape. I just don’t see Meghan in this at all. Her capers never fall from the shoulders but always over them. I think they’re more attractive. This, to me, looks nothing like what Meghan would wear in cut, etc, even the cape style. Just my opinion.
I’ve been around long enough to remember Diana’s dress to A View to a Kill and this dress screams that more than Meghan’s. Just make it sparklier and with a cape. The silhouette is similar, its cut is similar, it’s a metallic, even the sleeves are similar. Hell it’s even a Bond movie premiere.
@jais I think Meghan’s stand out more for a variety of reasons but the way the cape hangs, like I mentioned above, always stood out to me. The flow over the shoulders and down rather than hanging from the shoulders. That about the sometimes dowdy/boxy silhouette. In the article on the capes, Meghan is really the only one that wears that style.

      • Becks1 says:

This is definitely Diana cosplay, no doubt about that .

I just disagree because I see a lot of Meghan in the style of the cape. And considering we have seen Kate wear a cape dress once in 10 years, yeah, I’m going to say this was inspired by Meghan. and her dead MIL.

      • Nic919 says:

I don’t think she was aiming for copying Meghan so much here as she saw two gold packham dresses and decided to combine them for maximum sparkles effect.

Of course anyone with decent taste would have stopped her, but no one says no when Kate decides to customize Packham.

  20. Amy Bee says:

I’d say it was a decent attempt. I didn’t like the cape but she did what she’s supposed to do which was to get the press to be fawning over her. Interesting that she didn’t have a clutch.

  21. JT says:

Yeah the hair isn’t really working for me. The gown is ornate enough as it is, so maybe a simpler style would look better?

  22. Lady Esther says:

Agree that her makeup artist did a major upgrade!

  23. Heat says:

I’ve got nothing bad to say about this look for Kate. I really like it, overall.

Camilla looks like she got drunk and spilled on the dress she was supposed to wear, so someone threw this ill-fitting mess on her at the last minute.

  24. Shawna says:

Take out the shoulder pads and half the winglets and we got a winner. Jenny Peckham has done well for Keen in the past. If only she balanced these fun events with serious work!

    • Anne says:

The shoulder pads are the only tiny detail I don’t love. Other than that, I think she looks perfect. Just gorgeous.

  25. Merricat says:

Let’s congratulate Kate on the only thing she does on a given day: wear something expensive (paid for by taxpayers) that someone picked out for her. She’s an attractive woman on the outside, but the ugliness within ruins the effect for me.
She has nothing to do all day, every day, except prepare to be seen. I can’t imagine the BURDEN.

    • BayTampaBay says:

I will not believe for one minute that Kate (or anyone else) paid one cent for that dress. I believe, and will always believe, that it was a sample loaner.

  26. anotherlily says:

I agree about the hair. It makes her look older.

  27. JennyJazzhands says:

I don’t like Kate’s hair but I love the dress 10/10 I would wear it but I have an hourglass shape. I don’t think I would have chosen that with Kate’s shape. But, it is more flattering than what she usually wears 🤷🏿‍♀️
It may be just me, but I feel like Camilla always looks like this. Hair, silhouette, color scheme…same, same, same 🤷🏿‍♀️

    • Merricat says:

Jenny, spot on–a dress like this requires a figure of some kind, not a clothes hanger.

    • Seraphina says:

I agree with all you said. The photos I saw last night were photoshopped, so her face looked great. And the dress wore her. I love the dress maybe on someone else. I would love to see her in an asymmetrical poofy type gown. But her hair was the major eye sore of this entire look.
Plus, this look screams Look At Me. Which is something Kate likes to do and a fact I sadly recently picked up on.

  28. MsIam says:

I think Kate’s dress looks matronly on her and it ages her. JLo could pull it off better. Camilla’s dress is…. I don’t know, frumpy? I like the overall look of her dress, actually better than Kate’s, but not the fit.

  29. A says:

I like the dress , but the color eh. I think in general she should stick to pastels. Otherwise I would give her a B for effort (just because we know the tabloids are going to make it like she was the most beautiful thing to ever live!)

    • Nic919 says:

The yellow gold isn’t great with her skin. Had she gone for more of a rose gold that would have worked better with her skin tone. But she wanted the oscar statue look.

  30. Harper says:

Sorry, all I can think of is that she looks like an Oscar statue standing there on stage. And the hair is, um, bouffant? Just no. She took this from the Diana look book. I think she’ll be feeling pretty pleased with herself today after all the acclaim. Still, she couldn’t get one lovey-dovey, we are in love look from Burger King at this event to rival H&M.

  31. Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

I thought she looked gorgeous in the dress but the hair and the earrings were overkill. If the hair had been simpler, it would have been a slam dunk for me. I also would have liked to have seen maybe gold sandals instead of the gold pumps that she wore. Camilla is Camilla, she’s never going to be Helen Mirren. I do wish that she would get fitted for a better bra.

    • The Hench says:

Yes, Camilla really needs to get a properly fitting over the shoulder boulder holder. Her silhouette would be so much better. When she sits down those puppies must be resting in her lap.

      • PrincessK says:

But why are ‘puppies’ meant to be shooting out straight, especially when you are an older woman and a mother.

  32. Bendy Windy says:

I love everything about this. She looks amazing, and if ever there was a place for a gold, blinged out dress, this is it.

  33. Osty says:

It’s her bad posture and lack of confidence that makes her look off. You have to have confidence to be glamorous and kate isnt so even as hard as she tries she will always look meh

  34. Jay says:

I love the dress, actually! The hair is a bit princess goes to the prom, though.

  35. MrsBump says:

That dress is stunning !! Apparently it really does retail for 2800 pounds (though hers is probably custom made). This is going to sound crazy and someone will probably talk me out of it, but i totally want to get married in it! White is not a requirement in my culture and nobody cares about the royals where i’m from so people won’t know.
I genuinely thought Kate looks better than the real movie stars and i don’t even like her much , i’m convinced it’s that dress.
Off to net a porter !

    • tempest prognosticator says:

She really did look stunning and I was surprised at how she managed to outshine the movie’s stars.

    • Susan says:

@MrsBump, get married in it if that is what you want!! I think the thing people loved about Diana’s (sometimes) bad 80s fashion was she wore what she wanted, and pulled it off. I am personally bored by the same old Disney princess white wedding stuff—I wore navy blue to my elopement. You do you!!

    • BayTampaBay says:

@MrsBump – Are you inviting your fellow CBers to your wedding? We all look forward to receiving an invitation. Congratulations!

@Susan – You make a good point. Bad Fashion never looked bad on Diana. Diana wore some real clunkers that look even worse when viewed on a hangar or mannequin.

    • Nic919 says:

She combined two gold packham dresses so it’s double the value at minimum.

  36. Dawning says:

Beautiful dress, but I am not surprised it has a cape since Meghan rocked her cape dresses in her You-Coulda-Had-A-Bad-Bitch tour. I hope the Daily Fail posts a price list for everything she wore for this event. She looks much older than her 39 years. She is not ageing well at all. Obviously I am not impressed. There is no substance to these two.

  37. Lulu says:

The dress is stunning and fits her perfectly. I don’t know why she always has such poor posture though for someone so athletic. That is why she doesn’t quite pull it off in my opinion- that and the fact she just generally doesn’t have sex appeal as a person. (Sorry if it’s a mean thing to say). On the other hand, her makeup is perfection and she looks SO happy, so that makes up for the other stuff – a win for her definitely! Meanwhile, footage from the night shows that William continues to be cold and uninterested in his wife.

  38. Plums says:

I feel like being negative about this look for Kate is a bit of a reach. It’s an absolutely fantastic gown that she looks amazing in, her earrings are perfect, her makeup is great. The only thing I see at all someone could legit quibble about is the hair, which is a bit much and more than she can carry off. Something more modern and sleeker and less supplemented with wiglets would probably have worked better.

But really, the silhouette and beading on that cape dress are giving her the illusion of curves she has never had. This is probably the best thing she’s ever worn, and I’m inclined to agree with the TLo reaction to this look, which is that she looks more like a best actress nominee at the oscars than a royal. Very glamorous and top of her game.

    • Becks1 says:

Because not everyone thinks that she looks amazing or that this is the best thing she has ever worn?

    • Sofia says:

As I said the other day, fashion is subjective. What someone may like, another may not like. It’s not “reaching” to dislike an outfit, even if it’s on Kate. Plenty on here will say they don’t like an outfit Meghan wears and most people here love Meghan.

    • MsIam says:

The white, off the shoulder gown she wore to the BAFTA awards was much better for Kate than this one. It let her shine through. This looks like sparkly curtains, like the dress is wearing Kate instead of the other way around. Maybe its the matronly hairdo that makes her look so stiff, instead of sexy.

      • SarahCS says:

Ooh yes, that’s probably the best I’ve seen her look. That and the outdoor gala thing with Rose Who.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Check out the Jenny Packham dress Kate wore to the Cholmondeley hosted EACH benefit at Houghton Hall a few years back.

      • Becks1 says:

The pink Jenny Packham is an example of styling saving a dress. I really didn’t like the dress the first time she wore it – her eye makeup was too heavy, her hair was down and was messy, etc. The dress didnt really look pretty. The second time she wore it her eye makeup and hair were both a lot better and you could see the shoulder details on the dress, which is the prettiest part IMO.

but I laugh now because its so obvious why Kate went all out for that EACH fundraiser, if Rose was already her “rival.”

      • PrincessK says:

@Becks1 …at that point poor old Kate didn’t know she was with her ‘rival’. But William had a strange smirk on his face in the presence of the two of them.

    • L84Tea says:

I don’t like it because I don’t. It’s got nothing to do with Kate herself. What I like in a gown is simplicity. Nice fabric, solid colors, chic design, clean lines. But that’s my taste. Sparkly and heavily beaded is not my taste. Not everyone has to like it.

      • Eurydice says:

Yes, I’ve been having trouble figuring out why I don’t feel “Wow!” about this dress. It certainly screams “Wow!” and invites comment, but all I can think is “ok.” And it’s not about Kate, it’s just…I don’t like it…

      • Becks1 says:

@Eurydice my first reaction when I saw this – after “dynasty!” and “oscars!” was…”maybe I do like it and its not so bad?” But something about the whole look is very off to me and all I can say is that I don’t think Kate can pull off this look. I can’t put my finger on it more than that. I would say its just because I dislike her but I’ve admitted in the past when she’s looked good, so its not that. There’s something about it that makes me dislike and i’m not sure what, but I do think the over the top praise and insistence that NO ONE can find fault with this look is not helping, lol.

      • Eurydice says:

@Becks1 – Now that you all have mentioned Angelina and JLo, I wonder if this gown wasn’t meant for a curvier body. The cleavage and where it lands seems to call for more bosom. Of course, Kate can’t help that she has a slender body and I imagine too much bosom wouldn’t be suitable. Still, she certainly is wearing “Don’t look at Camilla. I am the true Queen.”

  39. MattyLove says:

Why are they out there acting like superstars? 😉😂

  40. Monette says:

At first you see them arriving and the dress is amazing and she looks beautiful from the front. But then she starts talking to people and everything goes to s***. Her awful posture, the huge hair that makes you afraid she is going to tilt over, her manic facial expressions and hand gestures.
God, what a beautiful dress on a beautiful figure waisted on a nothing burger.
Like everyone said: She doesn’t pull it off. The dress is wearing her. Sigh.

    • Leanne says:

Completely agree. The first pics were great from straight on. Then when you see her talking to people, she is hunched over, with the weird hand gestures, and the hair is so obviously bad from the side.

  41. Ella says:

Honestly this is an incredible look. But half the time all I can focus on is her terrible posture, which kind of ruins it.

And to be fair, Kate has worn caped things before (coat, dress when pregnant).

  42. rawiya says:

I didn’t like the cape. I thought the dress part was fine and then I saw the shoulder pads and cape and eh. The cape dress she wore while pregnant on the Norwegian visit was nicer. Her hair wasn’t that great either. But the big story for me was the fact that for the stair photos, Kate had originally stood beside Camilla: so Baldy, Kate, Cam, Charles… and Baldy MADE HER MOVE!! There are photos of him moving her to the outside so that it’s Kate, Baldy, Cam, Charles. It’s not a big deal… but if it’s not a big deal, then why make a production of moving her. Boy Girl Girl Boy works just fine. He’s so petty.

  43. Ohlala says:

    Here is my take
    *The dress is stunning
    * Kate is beautiful woman
But….everythinh she wears she makes frumpy. If she pulled her hair in sleek ponytail or sleek bun. Sinmple earrings and different shoes it would have been so modern!the way she styled it looks soo outdated, big hairdo, gold shoes with gold dress and look at me earrings.
I would have put simplest sleekest hair and red lips and simple modern sandals

    • mariahlee says:

      lol style twins!

    • Amy Too says:

Frumpy is right. She pulls things down, makes things look boring and average. She doesn’t have any sex appeal: she’s not fun or flirty or confident and she seems detached from her own body like she doesn’t know how to move in it and gets no enjoyment out of the sensual, physical world (eating good food, drinking good wine, feeling something soft or silky on your body, hugging and being touched). But she’s also not quite regal, or pretty in that sort of dainty and soft, elfin way that might not be super sexy but is interesting and stylish in its own way (like an Audrey Hepburn or a Dakota Johnson). She looks like a very average woman, who wants refuses to step out of her everywoman safe zone by wearing red lipstick, or getting a haircut, or trying something new with her look, but she also still isn’t quite comfortable or confident wearing expensive things.

A lot of the things she wears aren’t actually terrible. But the way she styles them and carries herself in them is bad. I don’t think I’ve ever liked her hair: I find it so dated and shapeless most of the time when it’s up, and it just hangs there when she wears it down. It’s like she can’t commit to an actual style so she’s always sort of half-way there and then she looks uncomfortable and unsure of herself and how her look is being perceived. A more modern, somewhat sheer, gold beaded cape dress but then a hairstyle from 1910 with a bunch of hairpieces and pins. A more professional and sleek pant suit but it’s pink and her hair is in sausage curls. A sporty, casual summer outfit with 4” heels and a clutch. She has a lack of personality and character that drags down anything she wears and makes everything look dated and strangely put together. I don’t think she ever picks out an outfit based on how it feels and how she feels and what she feels like wearing, you know. It’s like she treats her body as something that is completely separate from her mind and feelings and personality. But she also seems to break it down even further and treats her body like a collection of unrelated parts. Like she’s never putting an outfit together that says or conveys something, she’s just wearing shoes plus trousers plus shirt plus jacket plus jewelry. As if everything was chosen individually because it seemed “appropriate for a Duchess” without her actually considering or being able to see the whole picture.

  44. mariahlee says:

The dress is stunning and her face is glowing! I’ve never seen it look this good (thx 2 month vacay!). I’m imagining the dress with slicked back hair, maybe a red lip. Different vibes than Kate would ever go for, but that’s how I would’ve styled it.

I will say, when she sees her moment to shine, she seizes it. Big Capricorn energy.

  45. Noki says:

She looks good,i wouldnt say Dynasty i would more like Bollywood glam.

  46. swirlmamad says:

As soon as I saw that cape, I laughed. CopyKate just can’t help herself. I do think it was a nice look overall, but it does seem a bit off on her because she’s just….not glamorous. Shame her husband couldn’t be bothered to even give her a once over, far less tell her she looked nice (you know he did NOT).

  47. Gk says:

    She looked good.

  48. teehee says:

It was pointed out that the look is taken from Meghan’s makeup bag and style – the bronzing, contour, eyebrows, updo– KopyKate indeed. Its Megahn’s “glowup”.

So– this thought– just distracts from how “more ok” this looks compared to her normal self so that I can’t really dare to compliment it.
I just cant see much beauty in her now no matter what at this point- I mean, now even less than before.

  49. Lizzie says:

All in all Kate was a dead ringer for PrincessMargaret. Matronly, big wig and OOT bling.

  50. NCDancer says:

The dress is objectively beautiful but I still don’t think it suits her. All I can see is “look at my dress! I’ve got a gold spangled dress.” Literally I don’t see her beauty or personality shining through. I just see a spangly dress. It also feels a bit much for the occasion. It’s movie premiere that she does not appear in. Do gold glamour but dial it back. But yay, no buttons *shrugs*

  51. sunny says:

I think she looks gorgeous but the hair, dress, and earrings don’t work together as a look. The hair especially ages her here. Does she have access to a stylist?

Looks like a fun event that they all were looking forward to.

  52. Dawning says:

Not sure about the makeup artist. Her face looks old.

    • Ang says:

The odd thing about this is all the pics I saw lastnight must have been heavily photoshopped because she looked amazing, not like herself. Then I come here this morning to see the actual pics and she looks like herself. They seriously tweaked her face to look like Kendall Jenner in all the pics on ig lastnight and I was shocked. Lol

    • SarahCS says:

In response to @Ang it took me a minute to realise why she looked different, beyond hair and make up. I think all the pics I’ve seen of her recently have been officially released ones so ‘shopped to the max.

  53. Scorpion says:

    Issa no from me….

Nice try, but this dress is for those with charisma and pizza none of which Keen posseses.

  54. jferber says:

I don’t get the hoopla over the dress. If this were a Hollywood premiere, everyone would be meh about it. Maybe because the expectations are so low for her? But the real question is, are they virtue signalling? MattyLove and Rawiya, I’m waving at you.

  55. mellie says:

I really liked the whole look, I thought it was just beautiful all put together. HOWEVER, if you saw any clips of her walking in it, she clearly isn’t very confident and can’t pull it off. I would feel sorry for her, but I don’t. Just standing there though, she looks good, walking across the red carpet, nope.

  56. TeamAwesome says:

    The dress is absolutely fabulous.
Did the designer take inspiration from Diana’s silver movie premiere dress on their own or did Keen bring it up? There’s too much referencing to be a coincidence.

I hate the hair. I don’t know what else would have suited, but for me this isn’t it.

  57. TigerMcQueen says:

I think she did what she wanted, and that was to grab attention. In that way, the look reminds me of her Prince Phillip funeral look.

My other main thought is that if Meghan had worn something like this, the press would have tried to tear her a new one for overdoing it, for trying to hog the spotlight, and being too ‘Hollywood.’

I’m not particularly a fan of dress, but it’s the cape more than anything…without it, I’d love it. But Keen’s hair is atrocious.

    • PrincessK says:

Meghan would never wear that dress, she must be having a quiet laugh at it. Kate likes old fashioned styles. Meghan can wear things that have an ‘edge’ to them, which is why she is more interesting. The problem is that unlike Kate she does not seem to have access to a seamstress who can tailor the clothes to give her a perfect fit.

  58. Red Weather Tiger says:

Kate looks fine to play the part of Mother of the Groom at a Mar A Lago wedding.

I am fascinated by Elegant Normal Bill’s hands in every picture. He’s either pointing at something to appear engaged or tightly clasping them in front of his junk. To avoid holding hands or touching his Beloved Keen in any way?

  59. Queen Meghan’s Hand says:

Let’s let Keen have this one. She got a new sparkly dress while Madame Duchess is advocating for human rights. Good for Keen.

  60. Lauren says:

I just don’t understand why her posture is so freaking bad. It makes her seem insecure Af as if she were trying to hide from people.

  61. sandy says:

someone had a comparison photo of diana at an old james bond premiere wearing almost the same dress in silver and – it’s just too much. she doesn’t always need to just dress as diana.

    • SarahCS says:

To be fair to her she doesn’t have a whole lot else going for her than being married to Diana’s son and producing heirs (Diana’s grandchildren). If she doesn’t keep reminding us we might question her purpose…

      • Tessa says:

Diana got interested in her causes, she did more than go on photo ops biking and playing tennis. I could see the deep interest she had when she did tours of hospitals, the people took to her and she was able to “reach them.” Kate gets a lot of praise for wearing a gold dress.

  62. JMoreno says:

We must not overlook Baldy. Kate tried desperately to get Baldy’s attention yet she failed repeatedly. 100% certain he knew she wanted that moment but the arse he is wouldn’t give it to her. So we have Kate (cosplay to the wrong Bond movie) glammed to within an inch of her life and her husband wouldn’t even look at her…now that’s sad

    • Nyro says:

Their body language told a tale. No one expects them to be in tune like the Sussexes but he wouldn’t even really look at her. He wouldn’t even play the game and give her an admiring look for the press. I have yet to see a photo of him really looking at her and admiring her. He gave her nothing last night. Imagine Meghan being dressed to the nines and Harry not even looking at her. Wouldn’t ever happen.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone is again put on punishment again, this time for dressing as a Ritz Carlton Hotel lobby Christmas tree on the red carpet. If he didn’t like the glam young widow vibes she pulled at his grandfather’s funeral, he definitely won’t like this.

      • MMadison says:

That’s because Harry would have recognized the effort his wife put in for that night. Williams seems to tolerate Kate. It’s like he counting the minutes down for when the lights go down, the camera’s go away and he can walk away from “work”. I truly believe that William sees his marriage to Kate as “work”. It is indeed very sad.

      • JMoreno says:

I think it’s fair to say that Kate put in a LOT of effort for this look. I imagine it took hours to pin in all those wiglets….what a shame.

      • swirlmamad says:

It’s all in the body language. If you look at the photo of the 4 of them, W is leaning AWAY from K. I’ve also seen a pic that at first glance looks like they are looking at each other, but in actuality William is looking past her while she looks at him and grins giving the impression they are smiling at each other.

      • JT says:

Their whole relationship is just sad all around. I don’t see how anybody can look at Kate and want her life. Her husband just looks past her day in and day out and she deals it for a title that she won’t get until she’s 60 and a job that she actually hates. Hell, I’ve seen William look more admiringly at Meghan than he does Kate, and that’s also really f*cking sad.

      • Amy Too says:

This whole thing has a vibe like Kate was all set to be the popular girl at prom with her awesome gold sparkle dress and then last minute, her hot date bailed and she had to take her awkward cousin whom she hasn’t seen since they were 6. So he’s kind of awkward and not into her but she’s trying to make it look like this was her original date all along and they really like each other. And also, her grandparents decided to chaperone and the last minute and insisted they all ride together and take pictures during the prom.

      • Tessa says:

I see when Meghan dresses up and goes out with Harry, it’s all there in the looks, he looks so proud of her and the loving looks are Real.

    • Harper says:

Sometimes I wonder if the supposed lawyer sidepiece might actually get jealous of Kate being able to attend the glamorous Bond premiere and is she would start to badger Willie to officially replace Kate. I wonder if Willie complains to his sidepiece about having to show up with Kate. That is the kind of dynamic that I think is the worst thing about infidelity–the fact that the unfaithful spouse and the sidepiece are probably viewing the cheated-on spouse as such an inconvenience and someone they have to work around. That’s why I’d never stick around for that kind of marital situation. Kate was definitely trying to get eye contact again with Burger King but he just won’t do it. Plus he made her move over to the side for the official pic in front of everyone. He should have just let her stay where she was and not order her around. She should leave him.

      • MMadison says:

@Harper: ok who is the Lawyer sidepiece? Most sidepieces stay in the shadows until they feel it’s safe to come out. Meaning the cheater has fallen for her completely and she feels safe to make demands of him. The fact that event after event William rarely (and I do mean rarely) looks at Kate speaks volumes. We all know that if he looked at his wife with just the slightest of affection it would be all over the British Press. The fact that he refuses to do it says a lot.

      • Harper says:

@MMadison there is supposedly a lawyer that Will’s been seen with in London. So we’ve added her to the gardening as one of Will’s possible extracurricular interests.

      • Nyro says:

        MMadison,

The royal Instagram pages are using a slowmotion moment of William supposedly admiring Kate. If you watch it in real time, he’s literally simply turned in her direction and put his hand on her back so that he could move her aside. They took a fraction of a second, slowed it down, and they’re all fawning over it. It’s embarrassing. They’re like “real love and affection, not Hollywood fakery like the Harkles!!!” LOL

And I too would like to know who this lawyer side piece is. People mention her from time to time and I feel totally out if the loop. Who is she and where did this piece if gossip come from?

      • Nic919 says:

When the tweets confirming the rose hanbury affair were coming out, a few also mentioned that they thought he was with a lawyer based in London instead. Of course most of those tweets have since been deleted.

I suspect that the lawyer is being mentioned more because it does not look like he’s with Rose and I suspect he wasn’t with her by the time the story came out. However he’s clearly distant with Kate and I believe that he was spotted with another woman in London since Rose, which many have speculated are this lawyer first mentioned.

      • Becks1 says:

So I think The Hench on here has said that she knows someone in the Norfolk set, and they confirmed that the affair with Rose was going “hot and heavy” until the lockdown started in 2020.

Someone else – Andrew’s Nemesis I believe – said that she knew someone who saw him with said lawyer* in London and they were clearly, um, involved. That was pretty recently. Now of course these are anonymous people on a comments section and maybe they’re just making it up, but they have never come across that way to me.

*I’m not sure it was a lawyer, but was a woman in London and it was not Rose or Kate.

  63. Valentina says:

Wow, this is the best Kate has ever looked, it’s the equivalent of a best actress nominee gown.

    • Sofia says:

Despite me not liking the dress on Kate but liking it in general, I agree that despite that, it is definitely one of her best looks, especially in recent years

    • Tessa says:

Even a best actress nominee would have toned it down. And supposedly the royals should not be “show biz” people. I have seen her wear better outfits.

  64. Steph says:

She almost had a hit here. My only criticism of the dress is that I wish the cape stayed behind her and didn’t drape over her arms. That’s why the earrings (though very pretty) don’t work. There is too much gold concentrated on her upper body. If the dress coloring were reversed with the sheer portion up top they would. She should have opened the vault and wore huge diamond studs.
I think the “it” factor everyone is talking about here is confidence. She completely lacks it. And since she also lacks fashion sense you can tell she left it completely up to someone else to dress her so she is worried about how it will be received.

  65. Crowned Huntress says:

It’s a better look than she’s put out in the past but this dress is wearing her.
This gold is too yellow for her complexion even with tanning & bronzer. The shoulders need hips to balance them out. The ruching in the middle helps give her some shape but not very much.
A champagne or rose gold, or even a silver would’ve been nicer for her. The tinsel on the cape definitely gives me Christmas shower curtain vibes.

It feels very try hard for a woman who hasn’t worn anything this glamorous before but dressing up is the only thing Kate seems to have going for her at the moment. The hair is a bit of a mess for a Duchess that has resources. If she wanted the Sun Goddess look, I would’ve gone with a high bun with some tendrils but alas.

A nice look for Kate but still a miss for me.

  66. Kalana says:

Her procedures have messed up her face a little. She looks different than she did before the summer break. It’s more obvious in video.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yeah, her face looked quite off in the unedited pics. I think if she’s not already past the point of no return re: too many procedures, she’s fast approaching it.

  67. Mooney says:

I actually like the gown 🤩 it gives an Egyptian/Roman queen vibes. On the other hand,it gives me “I can make this gown if I have lots of glitter and patience.” But she’s killing the look with her awful posture.

Hair looked nice from front but a side view 🥴 I usually like her updos. Here she could have worn that one she wore at Philip’s funeral.

She could have totally looked glam if she went for a dark lip colour, like berry you know (😏)

But trust her to go full monochrome 😂 always. Golden gown, golden earrings, golden footwear, golden clutch, golden makeup… thank god she didn’t paint her lips gold 😂

    • Dee says:

The side view of her hair looks like a poop emoji. Can’t unsee it now.

    • Courtney B says:

I don’t mind monochrome. Some of Meghan’s best looks, including the legendary red cape, were monochrome—shoes, clutch, and killer garnet (?) earrings. It’s about the full picture for me. Sometimes monochrome slays (see above) and other times it screams matchy-matchy. I didn’t mind Kate’s here because I’m a magpie who loves glittering things.

    • swirlmamad says:

The back view of the hair is even worse…. flyaways and weird sticky-outy pieces everywhere.

  68. Coco says:

Whatever treatments she had done and whoever was giving them – she needs to lock them down. This is the best I can remember her face looking since I started paying attention to the BRF (after H&M’s wedding). It looks like she maybe had some micro-blading done to her eyebrows – major improvement over the demented permanent marker look she’s had in the past.

  69. line says:

The dress is beautiful, but the hairstyle is too matron.
A simple low bun, clearing the face would have been much better.

Then the huge earrings was not needed as she was wearing a very load dress, simple earrings would have done the trick.Like everyone else has said she doesn’t have the personality, glamor, elegance or sophistication to really catch the eye.

So the dress wears it and not the other way around, a person like Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Cate Blanchett or Naomie Campbell can work this type of dress.

  70. Case says:

Really don’t like Kate’s hair here — very Star Wars in a bad way — and think a softer style would’ve gone better with the dress. The dress itself is STUNNING, but I feel like it’s wearing her rather than she’s wearing it.

  71. MellyMel says:

Fashion is truly subjective. I think she looks like a Christmas tree and hate her hair. But her makeup is really good.

  72. WithTheAmerican says:

I really don’t think that’s all make up. There’s no deep under eye bags or kind of general sagging by her jaw and cheeks anymore. I have money on a mid face lift and lower bleph. Maybe I’m jaded because most stars by age of 35 has that in film, but she does look different to me and these don’t seem to be heavily photoshopped.

I love the dress on her and the earrings.

The hair is a big miss to me. I’d have loved to see her with real big hair piled on top and draping down, but this is weirdly piled on the back of her head instead of on top. She’s just not this kind of glamor. She’s girl next door, not Angelina or Meghan.

    • Waitwhat? says:

Tom and Lorenzo had a photo of her standing on the steps looking back over her shoulder and she*really* reminded me of Angelina. I could see Angelina wearing this dress with an updo, although she’d probably prefer it in black or silver rather than gold.

  73. Sarah says:

    She looks fantastic!!!!!

  74. Esmerelda says:

Unpopular opinion, but I don’t like the dress, it’s sparkly and cheap and looks just like another dress she has by the same designer. Boring. She’s tall and thin and pretty, yet boring even in sequins.
But how are we on the Bingo card? I remember we made predictions:
    – Diana cosplay from A view to a kill, ✔️
    – Camilla bling (that brooch!), ✔️
But no one could have predicted Craig showing up as Austin Powers. Yeah Baby!

    • Nyro says:

ITA. The dress didn’t say “glamor” to me. It said “KP is quaking after that NYC United Nations tour and needed her to wear the biggest sparkliest gown to hopefully land on the tabloid covers”. I saw lots of ” I hope this will knock Meghan out of the news for a few days” from her own fans.

      • L84Tea says:

It’s really sad that this is all they have from her. They worship and idolize her, but the only thing she hands the public is wearing clothes. That’s what all this fawning is about–wearing a dress! She didn’t do anything, she made no speech, made no contribution. She just showed up to watch a movie looking like Lady Holiday a la The Great Muppet Caper, and they act like she solved world hunger. I’d cry if it wasn’t so darn funny!

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, Hello magazine must now put Catherine on the front page, l don’t even think that they will share it with Meghan’s New York trip.

    • Courtney B says:

Craigs reminded me of Chris Evans’s blue velvet Oscar tux. I love men are getting a bit bolder rather than just black tuxes. https://www.popsugar.com/celebrity/photo-gallery/45835579/image/45835605/Chris-Evans-Oscars-2019

  75. Nyro says:

The dress is beautiful but it’s wearing her. Tracee Ellis Ross wore a very similar gown a while back. You can see when someone has the right vibe to pull off a gown versus someone who desperately needed a “red carpet moment” because they’ve been eclipsed by their sister-in-law for three years and counting.
    https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.j2qzFCfwJAYtfqr30SA2nwHaLH?pid=ImgDet&dpr=1.33

And the styling is all wrong. The hair and her energy gives mother of the bride vibes. And it only looked good from the front. The cape overpowered her frame, imo. Imagine what Sharon Stone could have done with that dress. Anyway, they’re going to have to put her in an actual spinning disco ball next time in order to get this kind of attention again.

Also, I love that none of her fans can talk about her look last night without mentioning Meghan. 😂

  76. Fanciful says:

She copied meghan then amped it 1000 with the gold. Whatever. She looks good for hee Lameness

    • Courtney B says:

I just don’t see Meghan’s here. It’s more like Kate’s own 2018 Oslo look. Except that was silver sparkle and much less of it. (And totally screamed a ‘74 Princess Margaret gown for the ballet). Kate’s capes in both were super floaty whereas Meghan’s were more structured, streamlined (not a sequin to be found!) and flowed off her raised neckline rather than the shoulders. (None of Meghan’s hang from the shoulders but rather flow over them and I think it’s so much more flattering.) I see Diana here much more. Down to it being a Bond premiere. A Diana dress with a cape.

  77. Robyn says:

The dress is absolutely STUNNING and Kate looked great. Legit loved this whole look.

  78. Jessie Quinton says:

The dress isn’t the problem, its how they’ve styled her. How I would have fixed this:

    1) Lose the cape.
    2) Get rid of the overdone hair. Would have straightened her hair, middle part.
    3) A bit of a tan
    4) Smoky eye; nude lip and a bit of bronzer
    5) Told her to stand up straight.

Presto. She would have elevated this look and instantly de-aged herself by 5-10 years naturally.

  79. Lizzie says:

I actually like Camilla’s dress It’s a beautiful color and very appropriate.

  80. Slippers4 life says:

I think she looks great, but I agree she’s used as a mannequin.

  81. Ellzie says:

I thought she looked stunning. Whoever did the “facial enhancements” over the summer has done a great job. And we should still abolish the Royal Family – none of them warrant the amount of privilege and unearned wealth they enjoy. The Queen has a gold piano, while UNICEF feeds hungry children in her kingdom. They are not our betters and the national fawning over them, infantilises us.

  82. Margaret says:

It’s just kate with a expensive dress. Her posture in said dress is still horrible. No cost given, no transportation means given. What does the celebrity red carpet that they accuse the Sussexes of mean to the hypocrites.
Sorry folks I will not hlet the welfare recipients misdirect their lackluster performances in service to the people. Over the top dressing at a cinema, really.
Pretty Coplay caped dress, still boring kate.

  83. Seaflower says:

Was just looking over on RCFA and I realised the dress is see-through. You can clearly see the outline of her legs quite high up. Protocol anyone?

  84. JennyJazzhands says:

Not saying that anyone can’t wear what they want but there are so many cuts and silhouettes that are flattering to women that are straight up and down or with hips thinner than chest.
Kate is missing out when she could be completely knocking it out of the park with a modern stylist.

  85. Jen says:

She looks nice. I’ve seen some spinning this as her getting the spotlight back after H&M’s amazing trip to NY, to which I’m “meh.” If you can’t look more glamorous at a film premiere on the red carpet than your sister in law does on a business trip, that is pretty telling.

It does also look to me like she’s had some subtle work done.

  86. Chelsea says:

She looks great! If I was married to something that looked that great I would at least hold her damn hand.

    • Tessa says:

It’s not her looks. It spoke volumes that William had her wait for years, with breakups, to get the ring. There’s more to it IMO>

  87. Bibi says:

I must say that I like this look mostly because it slims her broad shoulders, the cinch breaks up her long torso and accentuates her non-existing waist, and it gives the illusion of broader hips. The hair is a big mess, though. 8 out of 10.

  88. locamg says:

Love the dress, hate the hair. Should we talk about how William’s body seems pointed away from Kate? Look at the head tilted away.

  89. Kit says:

My friend sent me a picture last eve and honestly l didn’t recognise her, she looked like another person, don’t know why they do that to her she even had de ole makeup done !!!! Anyway, verdict out on de dress, l think for me it’s far too ornate and heavy looking for this type of event, l mean she is not one of de actors here, simply attending but oh no by God she was getting on todays front page and l tell.you no
one was goin to.stop her…. Sadly l did see a clip of de event and almost feel.a tad sorry for William, he is so over her and it all. While she was smiling and trying to chat to him while looking for de camera, he just wasn’t interested in her or de camera ……. Daniel Craig look very dapper though !!!!!

  90. Carito says:

I like the dress but the hair is atrocious and it makes her look older, the earrings are too much for it. The dress is already the statement she should’ve just had some studs and that’s it.

Is like she wants to do all things at once: sparkling dress *check*, big outdated hairdo *check*, big statement earrings *check*, glamourous Hollywood makeup *check*

I cannot imagine baldemort is happy that all the front pages of the papers have her on it instead of him. Also how sad that the only way you can make front covers is either because of your kids or because you dressed up nicely.

  91. Beach Dreams says:

Fail. Only Kate can make an attempt at Hollywood glam turn into a ‘mother of the bride meets tacky Christmas ornament’ look. She doesn’t have the presence to pull off a dress like this, though this is definitely the most dolled up I’ve ever seen her (wonder what the the motive for that was 😏). In the unedited pics, she looks extremely matronly. That monstrous hairstyle does her no favors.

  92. Sue Denim says:

I guess I’m in the minority, but I hate the whole look, feels so old for her, the hair is so overdone, and so is the dress. I guess I like simpler, more streamlined looks.

  93. Watson says:

She looks great! Not the best hair but it will do. Now that she’s managed to pull some focus off of M&H i wonder when William will start to freak out as the least interesting to look at.

  94. Carolind says:

OK. I loved her whole outfit and look. So did Daniel Craig apparently. He told her she looked “jolly beautiful”. I also thought that in her different circs Camilla looked every bit as good as Kate.

    • Tessa says:

He of course would say something flattering. The royals were there. Camilla had a better fitted gown than Kate did.

  95. February-Pisces says:

I do like the dress, but something is still off. I dunno why but I get “auntie at Christmas’ vibes. I think cos were so used to seeing kate look dowdy even when she is going glam, this look is definitely OTT for her. When you look at the stars of the film who were all dressed amazingly, Kate definitely looked like she was pulling out all the stops to upstage anyone there, as she was the most over dressed woman there. All the female stars of the film looked effortless chic and glamorous, where as Kate doesn’t look ‘effortless’, she looks like she’s trying really hard, it’s like the dress wears her and not the other way round.

Overall I like the dress, but I dunno if I like it on kate, but I’m glad she’s venturing out of her usually boring style and trying something new.

    • Tessa says:

It seems that it is a Look at Me dress. She could have gotten something more stylish and not that glittery gold.

  96. aquarius64 says:

I figured Kate would try to outdo Meghan due to the Sussex tour. But at the end of the day this says Kate is not taken seriously. Her “serious” projects never trends or gets major press (unless someone like Jill Biden is attached). She is only good for being a fashion plate.

  97. Lexistential says:

If she chopped off the bottom and hemmed it, she’s got a perfect skating dress*. That tinsel is so OTT and she looks like a cosplayed Oscar, and I think this look is a misfire. She should have tried looks like this at the start of her marriage but always went for safe, understated options with her hair down. This feels like Drag Duchess, and there’s a better look beyond it. (Also, “give the people glamour” messaging when there’s a petrol shortage? In a new 4K dress? Really?)

Also, the body language between the Keens is woeful. Every time I see Baldimort standing with his hands clasped in front of his junk, I see someone who does not want to put an arm around his wife.

*”Marcie… IT DOESN’T HAVE ANY SLEEVES!”

  98. Courtney B says:

I tend to like Kate’s movie premiere dresses which is funny because i rend to dislike most of her other formal dresses. I think it’s Lea Seydoux here but Kate was the only sparkly dress and cape there. https://pagesix.com/2021/09/28/kate-middleton-goes-glam-in-gold-at-no-time-to-die-premiere/

  99. Dee says:

Gaudy and uncomfortable. The styling is uninspired. Di and Margaret cosplay. Someday, maybe, Kate will be her own person, but this isn’t it.

  100. Ann says:

Kate is a pretty woman for sure, but this is WAY WAY too much – a sparkly disco ball Oscar statue. She’s trying too hard. It’s like a big scream. Donuts are piled on her head too. My favorite Kate look (hair and dress) was the Jenny Packham dress she wore twice, the second time the event when Wills and Kate were both photographed looking at Rose at the same time. I’m really surprised at how people love this Bollywood look on her.

    • Over it says:

Omg , I swear I wrote disco ball and then saw your comment. Lol.

    • February-Pisces says:

I like the dress but the dress wears her, not the other way round. It’s just looks like a desperate attempt to get attention and it worked. When you look at the other stars there, they looks so effortless chic. And the cape is definitely Meghan inspired.

  101. Over it says:

The material of this dress or the cape or both looks like a disco ball to me .

  102. MeghanNotMarkle says:

This actually brought me out of hiding. Surprisingly, I loved it.

  103. Stacy Dresden says:

She looks okay. Hair matronly as usual

  104. Layla says:

In reference to the first picture:

Chuck: I love bond so much. I hope I get the ride the Aston Martin. Can I ride the Aston Martin?

Camilla: princess Christmas lights over there an dress all she wants. I’m going to be Queen. Look at my Elsa dress. Now where’s the drink?

Willileaks: Take that Harry! I have a docuseries and I signed a foreword and I get to watch a movie. I’m so much better than you

Keen: Ha! Take that Meghan! I’m totally not copying your cape style or your shoe choice. I’m so much better than you. Forget Bond over there, I’M the keenest-in-all-the-land, everyone look at meeeeeeeeee!

  105. AmelieOriginal says:

I am not a Kate fan but I grudgingly admit that dress is simply stunning on her and so glam and she looks amazing. She looks very happy to be there too, she’s always loved red carpets events and has always typically reserved her “best” dresses for these kinds of things. I’ve always tended to like the Jenny Packham dresses she wears and this one is no exception. The fit is great, the detailing on that dress and especially the cape are just so exceptional. To the people saying she copied Meghan’s cape dress, I really don’t see it. The dresses are completely different apart from having a cape lol. Also Kate’s worn a cape dress before, she wore an Alexander McQueen cape dress when she was pregnant with Louis on an official visit to Norway in 2018 before Meghan even married Harry. It’s possible Meghan had worn some cape looks before the wedding during the engagement but I honestly can’t remember.

I hate the hair though and also I don’t remember having that much to make such an elaborate huge hairdo. I’m guessing there’s an extra hairpiece in there or two.

    • Tessa says:

Kate has done better than the sparkly gold gown. I don’t think it’s all that great. She is too thin and it does not fit well around the shoulder and chest area. A neckline like Camilla had would have been a better fit.

  106. Nancy says:

I realize I am very much in the minority, but I seriously dislike this dress. It is much too Vegas-y for my taste–gold lame show girl vibe. It fits beautifully and she has a great figure for eveningware. Like mentioned above this is way beyond her wattage and I fell better suited for a Kardashian. This is exactly what happens when you lose your sense of self and start competing with others.

  107. Marivic says:

The best accessory is a loving and attentive husband and Kate doesn’t have that. No matter how much she tried to get his attention by giving him gooey eyes he just couldn’t be bothered to give her a passing glance. There is no reciprocity. Very one-sided.

  108. Savannah says:

I like that she went glam, but for me this look is a miss. The cape is overly thin, an odd contrast to the heavy material of the dress. The sequins gathering in the upper waist (a Kate signature) somehow ends up making her look short, which she most definitely isn’t! The updo is confusing, not sure what overall shape it was supposed to have.

Kate is very picky about her style and I think she sometimes oversteps where she should let the designer dictate the shape and movement of things. She has a specific idea of what looks good on her but she shouldn’t worry as much about that.

  109. Over it says:

So has anyone notice that mr incandescent is still ignoring her? Just can’t seem to copy that from Harry and Meghan

  110. CrystalBall says:

The matronly hairdo clashes sharply with her Christmas cracker gold tinselesque dress. A very over the top look for a September movie premiere indeed.
Should a certain someone else have worn this dress, there would have been shrieks and cries that this is cheap Holllywood glamour, and not the preferred style of proper English royals. There would have been accusations of trying to be the center of attention and ‘making it all about her’ instead of letting the actors shine.
Plus the baying press hounds forgot to include the price of Kate’s rings in the cost of her outfit.
    Such blatant double standards.

    • Tessa says:

Oh yes and Meghan would be accused of “taking attention away” from the royals. And the repetitive comments that she has no “style” and Kate is “Better.” The over the top comments though went to Kate in the gold dress, the worst was her being called a Goddess.

  111. Alexia says:

Best she has ever looked! Her skin is glowing too. STUNNING!!

  112. Melly says:

Add me to the minority, and I have tried but I don’t like the dress and think she looks like a frumpy mess. The dress is gaudy and her hair like a birds nest. A plain woman who looks far older than her young age of 38 and her posture is horrible. My say something is that she has a cracking figure.

  113. Twinkle says:

It’s very Las Vegas. The only thing missing is the 35lbs, feather head dress.

  114. Skittlebrau says:

God help me, I love this look.

  115. brubs says:

she looked gorgeous, she really understood the assignment
and I don’t think she was copying Meghan with the cape, this style of dress has been VERY popular

William on the other hand… I mean, she looks like a million bucks and he looks like that episode of Friends when Chandler couldn’t smile for photos

  116. Deanne from Canada says:

Am I the only one who thinks it looks too much like a costume? The whole look. Individually the bits work, but together.. it OTT. Where does your eye focus?

    • Dee says:

Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra costume. Elizabeth had the “it” factor to pull it off.

      • Tessa says:

Kate should not even be in the same sentence with Elizabeth Taylor. Taylor was iconic, an excellent actress and had style (the only time she was below par was during the Studio 54 years when she was not in the best of health).

    • Nyro says:

It looks like a costume because the dress is wearing her.

  117. Basi says:

I loved the look. She looks gorgeous. Stunning.

Any news/gossip about body language from the event?? Curious if Kate and Wills were able to seem happy together.

    • L84Tea says:

Um, I’m placing my bet that as soon as they left she went home to her place with the kids and nanny and Wills headed to his girlfriend’s.

  118. Genxjules says:

Dress is gorgeous. I didn’t think her hair was flattering but at least it was up and not interfering with the cut of the dress. Pulling her shoulders back would help too especially with the bold shoulder.

  119. Lizzie says:

This is how I expect an older country western singer to show up at an award show, think Reba or Dolly. I would like the dress better without the cape. I also like the idea of her big hairdo but it was executed so matronly. I think it needed to be pulled back sleekly from her face then the big hair.
It’s the difference between a sleek top knot and a saggy Ma Kettle bun.

    • L4frimaire says:

A lot of comparisons to Bob Mackie in his 80s spangled glory. The dress itself is pretty, but a bit much, would have looked great at the Met Gala. Kate made it a bit matronly. Her hair styling looked like Princess Margaret’s updos. Anyhow, sure it was a fun night out and the royal press is happy.

      • Tessa says:

Princess Margaret could carry off the updos (which were more in vogue during the sixties), Kate cannot.

  120. Keri says:

This is totally an old school Krystle Carrington outfit. The only things missing are the shoulder pads and the feathered hair. Her face work has settled though and looks good.

    • Tessa says:

ALthough she had the outsized exaggerated grin, there she looked older and strained in the photos, the hair do “aged her” as did the extra makeup.

  121. Green Desert says:

Totally agree. The hair is matronly and incredibly old-fashioned. But the makeup is great.

I never say this with Kate, but – this is a great dress! She looks very pretty. She just never quite nails it though…this time it’s the hair.

  122. Mads says:

Like other commentators I immediately thought of Elizabeth Taylor in “Cleopatra”. Perhaps the elaborate hair was a homage to the headpiece? Very bold colour choice which draws attention to her and clever when attending an event with C&C. What the heck was the deal with her eyebrows?!! Perhaps it was the lighting combined with a glossy foundation, but in some shots they looked like a kids tattoo transfer sticker and had me envisioning her peeling them off once back at KP. Also, the body language was interesting with C&C, you could nearly have driven a truck between them as they posed on the steps.

    • swirlmamad says:

I think she got her brows microbladed and they haven’t “settled” yet.

    • Tessa says:

Cleopatra was over the top and Elizabeth played her that way. The glitzy gold outfit of Kate’s was a bit much for a movie premier.

  123. Kate says:

Yeah she looks incredible. The whole thing is gorgeous and she pulls it off beautifully.

  124. L4frimaire says:

The dress did what it was supposed to do and gave her a lot of attention. It’s a lot of dress, very over the top and yes she was really trying. She literally looks like a trophy wife with all that gold. It’s a lot. Camilla’s dress was so dated and unflattering. That color did her no favors. The two male heirs were just background players. I wasn’t paying much attention to the vibe of this event so hope the film got a lot of publicity. I’ve never liked Craig as Bond but will see this one because Ana de Armas, and the supporting cast is good. I just can’t imagine an effective MI5 under Brexit. Bond would have to report to Boris and his buffoonish cabinet.

    • Nic919 says:

There is a photo of William looking at Ana de Armas with more interest than he showed to Kate all night.

  125. Jaded says:

Looking at the side-by-sides of Kate and Diana at the Bond premieres, no comparison. Diana hit it out of the park but Kate just comes across as overdone cosplay. The dress is beautiful but the hair is completely outdated, the earrings are too much, it’s OTT. Add in the usual mad grins and jazz hands and you have all sparkle no shine.

    • Deanne from Canada says:

Agreed. “All sparkle and no shine”. This shouts a “I’ll show you who gets more media / front page attention!” “MEEEEE!”

      • NightOwl says:

@Jaded totally agree that it’s “all sparkle and no shine”! At this point, she’s really a walking clothes hanger. She has not the confidence and walk of a supermodel and there is just nothing really of substance beneath it all. The actors can wear beautiful clothes and they clothe artistry — that’s super fun to see. It is their JOB to wear gorgeous costumes to augment their work. Kate’s costuming is all just so superficial and boring/bland after a certain point.

    • PoppedBubble says:

      Yep!

    • Ina says:

Absolutely OTT with the earrings. That was the first thing I noticed, then the big hair.

    • Tessa says:

Kate is no Diana and never will be. Diana had style, and never had to overdo the makeup. Also, Diana was more than a “model” with nothing else to talk about but her outfit. She had depth and she would have been better meeting and greeting than Kate. Diana had more humanity than Kate and was more relatable.

  126. Moneypenny424 says:

My first thought with the hair immediately was sleek, low chignon. That would have been the perfect hair to make this more modern, less Dynasty.

Although, nothing is more important than dynasties to this lot…

  127. Jinx says:

If you look at pics of when the royals were in the receiving line, Craig looks UTTERLY perplexed with whatever Kate was saying and she looks so chuffed with herself.

  128. tamsin says:

I think Kate really stood out at the premiere. Nobody wears a gold dress like that without the intention of being the centre of attention. It seems that Kate WAS the centre of attention at this premiere and not the stars of the movie. I think Kate looked good in the dress. The hair was a bit of a miss, and a bit of a mess with bits of hair sticking out, making the up-do look more casual than intended. I remember a picture of Princess Grace with that hairdo and she was middle-aged when that picture was taken.

    • Marivic says:

She looks so botoxed and obviously had her face done. Then photos were photoshopped.

    • Waitwhat? says:

In fairness, Kate is 40 and Grace Kelly was 52 when she died, and both could be described as “middle-aged”.

    • Tessa says:

It reminded me of the bright red dress she wore at one of the Queen’s Jubilees so she would “stand out” from the crowd, the Jubilee where the Middletons had their own boat down the Thames. I think she likes attention.

  129. Lululu says:

Total Dynasty vibes, but it’s actually kind of working for me, at least way more than Kate’s looks typically do. I think she generally does okay with evening looks, she’s had a couple through the years that I’ve absolutely loved. This one gets a solid B+ in my book.

  130. A says:

The dress on it’s own is great and one of the best ones Kate has had so far. But the combo with the hair ages her terribly and it looks quite out of place on her. She doesn’t wear this sort of stuff and it shows. Pulling off this type of glam for a James Bond premier takes a certain sense of je ne sais quoi for lack of a better term. You need to have fun with it and really lean into that sh-t with a deep sense of irreverence. For someone like Kate, who is painfully self-conscious, and self aware, and deeply uncomfortable with herself, that would be difficult and that, frankly, gets in the way of what would otherwise have been a terribly fun look.

    • Tessa says:

She looked better in the light pastels and black colors. This gold sparkles were a bit much and Kate can’t carry off the low cut look.

      • A says:

Nah, I think the glam look did really work for her. I’ve always thought she shone best when she’s relaxed and able to have a good time. Bless her, she looks like she’s having fun here for a change, which is nice, I suppose. That really does a lot for her too.

The light pastels and black colours, honestly, she looked fine, but I always thought they were more representative of the fact that she continues to shrink herself as a human being, to fit in. She makes herself dowdy and inconsequential, and that in turn makes her fashion completely unremarkable. If she carried herself the way she’s carrying herself here, that would make a world of difference for anything she chose to wear, really.

  131. Athena says:

The Express is calling the golden dress a power move on the part of Kate. Meghan help raised millions to vaccinate the world, Kate wears a golden dress, that’s her power move. Does anyone in KP realize how silly this story is.

    • Tessa says:

The dress was too glitzy. She could have had a light pastel and a higher neckline. It looked too overpowering.

    • San Diego says:

Sadly that is exactly what they want from Kate. Wear the cloths, pose and smile. Honestly she is exactly what William wants and for her part, she delivers. They really are untouchable. They will get endless, undeserved praise for everything. They have the institution, government and media behind them.

      • Tessa says:

I don’t think any of the royals are untouchable. And media praise does not last as Diana and Fergie discovered.

      • San Diego says:

The reason why I said Kate and William are untouchable are with Diana she was playing the game but had no one in the palace to back her or support her. She comes from “ blue blood” but even they did not stand with her. Kate has the backing of the institution. They will do anything to protect her because they want to show the world they do not want another Diana situation and also they failed sooooooooo miserably when it came to H&M that W&K are really all that is left. They are popular with the royalist and from my understanding the general public just goes along with anything that is reported on them. Unfortunately, the media strategy has been working on the reputation of H&M in England. They do not report on the important work that H&M are doing. They just attack them from every angle but their work. According to the media H&M are “woke, Hollywood, not one of us while W&K are always describe as “royal, duty, service to the country and most importantly they are one of us”. Unfortunately, it is working.

      • Nic919 says:

If Kate ever divorces William she will be trashed as much if not more than Diana ever was.

      • San Diego says:

Kate will never divorce William. Her whole life, identity and self worth is wrapped around William. She has spend Half her life in the institution toeing the line and performing for the crown. It’s all she knows and let’s be honest however they might feel about each other, William trusts her, the family has close ranks around her and they know exactly what they are getting with her. She’s controllable and predictable. That consort crown is hers.

      • A says:

@San Diego, I agree 100% with your take. Every imaginable scenario where William would divorce her hinges on him magically changing as a human being and becoming someone who will somehow fall in love with a bright, fresh face with an aristocratic lineage, who will work hard, when the truth is, William will never ever ditch Kate to marry someone who could potentially outshine him in any capacity. He married Kate for exactly the reasons you said–she is controllable, predictable, can always be entrusted to remain loyal and dependably toe the line, and she is boring as wallpaper paste. She doesn’t have the charisma that Diana does, which is exactly what William and the institution wants.

William will never gain the maturity needed to extricate himself from a marriage of convenience that he entered into with his eyes wide open, for the sake of love, that too for a mythical aristocratic version of Meghan. His ego will never allow for that. He prefers to keep the women in his life sidelined so that he can take center stage. Kate is a woman who has dutifully signed up to do exactly that for him, and keep her mouth shut to boot. Why in the world would he ever get out of this arrangement? How would he even become the sort of person who would want to?

      • San Diego says:

@A exactly! Everything that we’ve read about William is how manipulative he is when he wants something. He wants to be the most loved, admired, the shining light of the crown lol because that is what the institution let him get away with and protected him every step of the way. The institution has bend over backwards to accommodate him especially since his mom died. People like that are never satisfied so he found another family with the Middletons which did the same things as the institution. Feed his ego and gain his favor. I honestly believe he considers them more of a family and closer to them than anyone. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship. They get the status, connections and he gets the family he wants while doing whatever he wants on the side.

Kate’s entire existence is keeping William. She is conniving and cunning when it comes to keeping William. She’s outlasted all the other women from university, the infidelities and anything else that’s been thrown at her. W&K have both managed to bully and outmaneuver H&M of all people! And still consider themselves the victim while gaining public support.
They will be propped up by the media and institution for the rest of their lives.
Media has already written the script for the next several decades: W&K heroes and H&M are the villains.
Us people that are paying attention definitely know it’s the other way around but for the general public, you repeat a lie long enough it becomes their truth.

  132. The Voice says:

It seems like all the pieces of Kate’s look are fine on their own but no one looked at everything together. It’s like her hair, makeup, earrings, and dress all have to compete with each other for attention because they’re each so BIG. Pile on the hair! Evening makeup! Giant earrings! Dress – moar sparkle, let’s add a cape!

It’s so strange that Kate’s face has been tweaked (fillers?) to look youthful but then she adds on a bunch of fake hair that looks dated.

  133. canichangemyname? says:

I kinda like it. I’m not usually a huge fan of her style, but she’s pulling this off nicely. I like her hair up.

  134. Janice Hill says:

I love the dress and Kate looks good in it, but if she’s gonna go 80s glam, she needs a large necklace to anchor it. It doesn’t have to be state-dinner worthy. There are plenty of necklaces in the royal collection that are in between all-out State and boring Kate.

    • Tessa says:

She looked tired and strained though went in for the over dramatic grins and laughing. William looked bored. The hairdo did nothing for her. Audrey Hepburn could rock that hairdo not Kate.

    • Lizzie says:

I thin she needed to lose something, not add more. This was already way too much. The big earrings, big shoulders and cape were too much all together.

  135. Athena says:

The thing is by wearing a cape dress Kate knew she was going to draw comparisons to Meghan’s red cape dress, just like she knew she would draw comparisons with the White one shoulder dress after Meghan wore a black one shoulder dress. She’s playing this game solo because Kate does not live in Meghan’s head the way Meghan lives in Kate’s head.

  136. Tessa says:

What bothers me is the excessive “fawning” over Kate even some calling her a “goddess.” ANd even worse, some use the over praise to criticize Meghan. I think Camilla got it right, better neckline and pastel color. Kate’s bright gold was a bit much.

  137. Monica says:

I wish the BRF would quit being awful to M&H so I could unabashedly applaud what Kate is actually good at.

  138. Queen Anne says:

I thought I saw a picture of the original dress and it looked like it didn’t have the square shoulders. The shoulders actually looked really pretty on that dress. With her posture, I thought the dress wore her. And I hate when she wears the high heels and towers over everyone. It makes her posture worse. Hair was horrible. William must learn to button his jacket.

  139. HeatherC says:

I like bold dresses, especially with glitz. If I was tall and rich, hell I’d wear this gown to the grocery store! But. (and I’m sure someone will accuse me of being mean in a hot minute)

You need boobs for a neckline like this. On her, especially with her posture, it looks like a deep V neckline on a drag queen who forgot the boobs, line for pectoral muscles and all

The posture. If you’re going to wear a look at me dress, stand up straight, throw your shoulders back and seize it.

Matchy matchy matchy. Again, can be pulled off with some sass.

I’ll give her credit for not going bronde to match the dress. I wonder if her neck hurts from all the wiglets.

  140. JMoreno says:

Prince Charles had to be FURIOUS with Kate. She broke Royal Rule #1 Don’t outshine the Senior Royal. In this case she took center stage over both Charles and Camilla. The dress was U G L Y. Did you see the back of the Cape? Liberace and Little Ricard want their Cape back!! This dress is perfect for Dolly Parton in concert!!

    • PrincessK says:

This time Charles was happy to be there for PR. He made sure he made a big show of hugging and kissing Kate for headlines, especially as he is still under a cloud regarding cash for access.

      • JMoreno says:

@PrincessK… please watch the video of that greeting from Charles and Kate. The photo doesn’t tell the true story. Kate wanted to engage Charles after the kiss but he quickly moved away from her leaving her standing there with a look of shock on her face….WATCH THE VIDEO trust me your opinion will change

    • Lizzie says:

That’s what I said! Lol. Dolly or Reba.

  141. Margaret says:

At the end of the cinema it is still grinning, slouching kate in a expensive see through brassy looking dress, paid for by the tax payers. By the way who wants to be a celebrity?.

  142. christina says:

She looks fabulous and happy. Spot on for the occasion!

  143. Anna says:

God. She looks like her own grandmother.

  144. PIP says:

She knocked it out of the park- she was a sleek golden goddess.

  145. SnoodleDumpling says:

Many here have said ‘Vegas’, and I was thinking along the same lines but more in the vein of…the ghost of Edith Head does costume design for the beloved-by-royalists replacement for the Queen’s Speech, a new tv special, ‘Whitest Christmas’! Starring the British Royal Family (except those traitors, the Sussexes), with a special guest star, the Royal Regiment of Scotland’s own mascot, Cruachan IV!

Featuring an inspired interpretive dance by the Duchess of Cambridge as she explores the life and purpose of a Christmas tree, from the point of view of the tree-topper. No one is more qualified than Kate to explore such a topic, I think.

It’s just SOO much, and she can’t carry it off. Thus, it feels not like clothing but like a costume…and the only costumer I can think of who used oodles of sequins was Edith Head, though she likely would have produced something a good sight better than this. It also feels like too much for a movie premiere, even if it is a James Bond premiere in London. It might work at a major film festival or award show.

  146. Aurelia says:

Kate looked like a bronze goddess and outshone every other heaux attending. Nice to see her blossom. Willie finally looked at his wife like the goddess she looked that night. The dress was a loaner. It’s not a dress she would be able to wear again. Im stanning for her sartorialy.

    • Haylie says:

Fanfiction. Will never looked at her like a goddess. All these myths because Harry actually embraced Meghan onstage on Saturday.

    • Nyro says:

This need for you Kate stans to straight up lie and say William was admiring her is quite fascinating. Some of you are going to be crushed when the open secret of this man’s infidelity is finally exposed to the general public.

    • MsIam says:

Outshine is literally the right word for that get up, lol. You could probably see it from the space station.

    • Lizzie says:

If you like matronly then I guess you like this look. Tune into the County Music Awards to see a lot more of this look.

  147. Marivic says:

So sad not one photo has captured William giving Kate a loving glance.

  148. Lizzie says:

Kate’s look comes across as being put together by committee. Individual parts are nice but put together it was too much. EVERYONE knows if Meghan had worn this much bing she would be called tacky and Hollywood. Piers would claim to need sunglasses. Also if Meghan wore it there would be multiple articles overestimating the cost while including wedding ring and any other jewelry.

  149. VitaBANItaBONnita says:

It was the best she has looked in awhile but that’s not saying much is it?

The dress requires sex appeal, confidence, elegance, and great posture. And a figure that isn’t a stick. She has the height and that’s about it. On a Sharon Stone or Halle Berry or Charlize, this dress would smoulder.

Kate’s hair looks messy and old (that’s usually her best feature) and the make up…I don’t get it.

It’s the best she can do.

    But I don’t think it’s that great.
