Over the weekend, Grimes set up a dumb photoshoot on the streets of LA. She walked around in full cosplay, carrying a new copy of The Communist Manifesto, and trying to read the words without moving her lips. It felt like Grimes was trying to tell us that she’s newly single and a communist who reads the books she orders off Amazon, and that she is particularly desperate for attention. Last week, Elon Musk announced that he and Grimes are “semi-separated,” and I thought this was all part of that too. But now I don’t know what to think. She posted the photos on her Instagram with this message:

Full disclosure I’m still living with e and I am not a communist (although there are some very smart ideas in this book -but personally I’m more interested in a radical decentralized ubi that I think could potentially be achieved thru crypto and gaming but I haven’t ironed that idea out enough yet to explain it. Regardless my opinions on politics are difficult to describe because the political systems that inspire me the most have not yet been implemented).

There was one paparazzo from Backgrid, and she must have called him up for this photoshoot. But I guess the purpose of all of this was to tell people that she’s still with Elon Musk though. Which… I’m guessing that he was the one who was over it and she’s like “no, we’re still doing this!!” Elon is such a mess, she should have taken the escape route when he presented it to her. Just leave him and sue him for child support and be done with this drama.

That looks like an old Norton critical edition copy of the Manifesto…either bought from a used books store or loaned from someone with a genuine interest in Marx. Hmmmm.

OK, I laughed out loud at “I haven’t ironed that idea out enough yet to explain it.” Also, the part where she draws inspiration from political systems that don’t exist (ok, paraphrasing for maximum absurdity).
I said it before but she strikes me as neurodivergent. I have Aspergers and I have a female friend who is also autistic with ADHD and her personality and manner of speaking is so similar to Grimes’. Obviously I’m not her psychologist but that would explain her “odd” behavior and statements. Also Elon musk has Aspergers and we usually choose partners also on the spectrum (not always consciously!).
She could also just be plain super try-hard and not at all smart.
You don’t have to be neuro-divergent to explain her actions or words.
For example, I would not call Duchess Kate or Prince William neurodivergent because they say ridiculous things due to them not understanding how normal non-rich people live.
I am also an autistic girl and I have thought the same thing FOREVER. she sets off my aspie-dar like crazy.
also, let us take this moment to consider how many autistic women are never diagnosed or don’t get diagnosed until their 20s, 30s, 40s. we have a terribly high age of diagnosis if it happens at all.
interesting that you agree we often choose partners on the spectrum, the only relationships i’ve had that have been fulfilling or worked have been with non-allistic people. don’t have to mask 24/7 and can empathize with aspie-specific problems even if the details of our specific problems are different.
I agree. I say out loud too many things that are still ideas percolating. I’m neurodivergent with ADHD too. There’s always about 10 rooms in my head with something happening in each one. I reveal too much too soon of my inner world to people… and prefer to be around people that want to take time to get me and not point and laugh… or to be ok with not getting me. We can all exist in proximity, you know?

I am not here to hate on Grimes. She’s an interesting person and I just want to see her ditch Musk and be herself.
