Over the weekend, millions of people showed up for hundreds of Women’s Marches across the US to protest the abortion bill in Texas and other legislation threatening Roe vs. Wade. The Women’s March started when Donald Trump took office and we knew women were screwed. There have been other women’s marches since the first, but they have not been as well attended. With everything we feared starting to come to light, Saturday’s protests saw record turn outs. And that includes some famous faces as well. In Washington DC, Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence joined the fight at the Rally for Abortion Justice. Their appearance was especially poignant and not just because they are both so well known, but because Amy just had a hysterectomy and Jennifer is pregnant with her first child.

Schumer, 40, posted a photo from one of the hundreds of Women’s March protests happening nationwide alongside Lawrence, 31, who showed her baby bump. “I don’t have a uterus and she is pregnant but we out here @womensmarch @plannedparenthood #rallyforabortionjustice 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼,” Schumer captioned her Instagram post.
A representative for Lawrence confirmed to USA TODAY in early September that the actress and her husband, Cooke Maroney, 37, were expecting their first child together.
In Schumer’s photo Saturday, the comedian held a sign saying “abortion is essential” while Lawrence’s sign read, “Women can’t be free if they don’t control their bodies.”
The big news was that we got to see Jennifer’s baby bump, which she has kept out of the camera lens up until now. And good for Jennifer. She knew paps would want shots of her, so she used that to bring attention to women’s health. And Amy being there also makes a statement. She’s had an incredibly difficult fertility journey and to be out there pounding the pavement so soon after her hysterectomy is impressive. I don’t mean to prioritize anyone’s importance because everyone who is fighting to protect women’s rights is a soldier in the same battle. But I love when celebrities use their platforms wisely.
There were women at all the rallies and marches across the country. Brave to everyone who showed up or donated. It’s a rotten time right now with women’s rights being threatened and voter suppression targeting minorities. Let’s just remember, in the spirit of Amy and Jennifer, to show up for each other even if it’s not a cause that directly affects us.

This is awesome, and also a friendly PSA that anyone with a uterus is at risk with these laws, not just those who identify as women.
I want to see more coverage of this. The more awareness the better for all the things that are happening right now that are eroding our basic rights.
As a Texan, I am super ashamed of my state. Our governor and state legislature have drunk the cult kool-aid in their quest for more power. They conveniently forget that our state was founded by Mexican settlers and the American immigrants were the “undocumented immigrants” filing in to find work and a life when is about that border wall.

My partner and a few friends did the march here in New Mexico. It’s not just about abortion, ALL reproductive rights and the ability to be educated about reproductive options are being attacked.
This trend will likely spread to other states run by the party of stupid. Voting has never been more important if there is any chance to prevent devolving into a pre-1973 environment for women.
We heard from our leaders in planned parenthood that there is a substantial number of texas women now crossing the border into New Mexico for help. It’s appalling. As many signs said at the march – “can’t believe we are still dealing with this sh!t”.
I’ve lived in Texas for almost 30 years and for the first time ever, I feel like it is no longer the place for me. The grid collapse, the no mask mandate, and now this – Texas feels unlivable and I don’t want to be associated with living here anymore. It makes my soul weep.
Love that they both used their platforms for this. Jennifer can stay pretty low-key and undercover in NY – there were pap shots the other day of her in a sports bra and leggings going to the gym too (obviously visibly pregnant). I think that was also intentional on her part. So many people cannot fully understand the concept of choice. I do think it’s powerful to show the anti-choice people that pregnant women also care about this issue and can also think abortion is an essential right.
Yes, absolutely – I’ve always been pro-choice, but going through a (very hoped for) pregnancy has radicalized me. Nobody should be forced to do this, period, and the attitudes behind forcing women to give up control of their bodies are harmful to everyone, with or without a uterus.
Also, on a superficial note, Jennifer is giving me Leelee Sobieski vibes with the denim jacket and her hair that long.

While I can appreciate the importance of these women using their platform to highlight this issue that impacts all people with a uterus; I have seen Jennifer Lawrence maskless way to many times during her pregnancy. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to COVID, vaccinated or not. It’s not a risk I would take, but to each her own.
