    Glad Rachel is OK.
That Buzzfeed article was interesting – the best comments were about being diversified – don’t rely solely on one social media platform, especially a free one that’s just going to shrug when problems like this occur.

I’m thinking about switching internet because of this AT&T issue. Anyone else?

    • salmonpuff says:

We’ve been thinking about switching cell providers for a while because of ATT&T’s problematic funding of conservative politicians/causes. Unfortunately, I have no time or energy to figure out how to detangle our five cell phones plus DirectTV! Which I’m sure is what they count on… But this latest business has motivated me a bit more!

      • The Recluse says:

Here’s one option: get your wifi through someone else, get the best you can get, and try YouTube TV. It’s like basic cable, but cheaper. (It is associated with Google though…so many problematic corporations sad to say.)
(We did this because Mom had a 7000 dollar dental bill and needed to save money.)

I am switching. I only have internet through AT&T.

I just heard about T-Mobile internet. It is a flat fee of $50.00, but I don’t have all the details. It might be worth a look.

      • LaUnicaAngelina says:

@Stagaroni- We have T-Mobile and it’s been great! We switched in January. The connection has been reliable and it’s $50/month on autopay and $55 without autopay. One major issue we came across was with Hulu Live. Since it’s technically mobile internet and not traditional internet, Hulu Live wouldn’t work because Hulu Live requires traditional internet. Other than that, no issue with other streaming or work.

I had AT & T for five years, and during the pandemic they were so clearly slowing our speed while sending us “upgrade” opportunities. One day, a representative from Sonic literally knocked on our door, and we jumped on it. Big improvement. Big.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I am overdue to get a new phone and currently have AT&T. I am definitely thinking about getting my new phone and service with a different company. 90% of OAN’s funding came from AT&T! That’s a HUGE amount! And they are a direct threat to democracy.

      • PixiePaperdoll says:

Google-fi! I switched my cell service to them about 4 years ago and I’m never going back.

  3. Genevieve says:

I still have friends who use tanning beds and it is a real exercise in restraint to not blow up at them when they talk about it. NO, tanning beds are not a good dupe for vitamin D supplements because they primarily focus UVA rays onto your skin whereas most natural vitamin D is derived from UVB light-of which you get most of the daily recommended dose within 15mins of sun exposure. Any more exposure is a risk. Wear sunscreen people. Where I choose not to yell at my friends, I’ll yell here: WEAR SUNSCREEN, people!

    • BothSidesNow says:

I hear you @ Genevieve! I have been wearing sunscreen since my late ‘20’s and my daughter does not. She has had 2 spots removed already, she’s 36, and refuses to wear sunscreen when she is out walking the dogs or whatever activity she is participating in. She complains when I refuse to leave the house without sunscreen, but she has some serious pigmentation all over her face too. I have a little but not like her. Sunscreen is your friend!!

    • Coco says:

If you have social media, you could post about Rachel Maddow and your personal feelings about the importance of sun protection.

    • BeanieBean says:

Wear sunscreen, wear long sleeves, wear hats. And most importantly, don’t sunbathe! I did when I was younger–probably stopped sometime in my 20s–ran daily for two decades, worked outside for another two decades (archaeologist), and have been seeing a dermatologist 2x/year since my first melanoma diagnosis in 2001. I’ve had one more melanoma & one micro nodular basal cell carcinoma. I’ve been lucky, a friend has had more serious melanomas with lymph node involvement. Stay outa the sun, people! And forget those stupid tanning beds, too!

  4. Lacie says:

    Those necklaces are stunning!!

    • BothSidesNow says:

Yes they are as well as their prices too!!

    • Lady D says:

There is one or two I would probably wear. WOW!

    • BeanieBean says:

They are beautiful, but they look heavy. I love love love VC&A. I once spent a happy hour or so in a car dealership looking through a coffee table book on the history & artistry of VC&A. Best wait at a dealership I’ve ever had. Krispy Kremes & VC&A, can’t beat it.

  5. J ferber says:

Feel better, Rachel. I love what you do.

  6. Tiffany :) says:

How did Zendaya sit in that dress? Does the plate push up into your face?

  7. Eurydice says:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen before a dress that Zendaya couldn’t carry off. Wasn’t it last January that both she and Gwyneth wore that Tom Ford hot pink breastplate? But this thing is molded in a weird way – like it was for someone else’s body.

  8. Edogfemme says:

My thing about “skin cancer” is that there are 3 different kinds (probably more, I’m not a doctor) and only melanoma is really deadly. Squamous cell and basal cell are totally cancer, but they really shouldn’t kill you.

    • Kkat says:

But if you don’t catch it soon you have to get a big chunk of tissue cut out, it really sucks if it’s on your face.

    • Lucy2 says:

Most people I know with it have been fortunate that it was easy to treat, but one woman I know did radiation and then still needed surgery, and she’s only in her 40s.

  9. Rise & Shine says:

Glad Rachel spoke about this. Please, I beg you, use sunscreen and check or have someone check you regularly to monitor any changes of this nature, and schedule and go in for your appointments. No fun, I know, but go. My Mom, one of my best friends that is a brilliant dermatologist, and so many other incredible, sensible, intelligent people I know (and sadly one that I used to know) have dealt with the repercussions of not paying enough attention to sunscreen, not checking on changing moles or whatever. PLEASE, keep yourselves and your loved ones safe. NO EXCUSES anymore my darlins 🙂 And thank you Rachel.

    • notasugarhere says:

This. Relative had a mole they didn’t check, it metastasized to everything and ended up killing them.

  10. Karla says:

Yes for fair skinned people sun exposure of 15 min in summer is sufficient for adequate vitamin D. But in the winter months and for darker skinned people this does not work.
Which does not make tanning beds an alternative imo. Decent Vitamin D (plusK) supplement does the trick for me.

Female dating strategy = cis het women trying to skip therapy after bad cis het dating experiences in a capitalistic, narcissistic society. Ugh.

  12. Chelle says:

Several years ago, one of my husband’s best friends noticed a tiny mole on his ankle. He was young and healthy, so he never gave it a second thought. A few years later, the mole started itching profusely, so he finally saw a dermatologist. It turned out to be a melanoma that had spread throughout his body and he died less than six months after the diagnosis. He was only 37-yrs old.

The whole thing was unimaginable and devastating; it convinced me to stop going to the tanning booth and to wear sunscreen everywhere. And whenever I’m rushed for time and think “eh, just this one time won’t hurt,” I remember my husband’s friend and spend those extra few minutes to apply sunscreen.
