Kristen Stewart wore Chanel to the London Film Festival premiere of ‘Spencer’

The BFI 65th London Film Festival Headline Gala of 'Spencer' held at the Royal Festival Hall

Kristen Stewart was in London last night for the London Film Festival premiere of Spencer. It wasn’t a huge journey for her – she had been in Paris for the fashion week shows, which is where she got this Chanel gown. A lot of editing went into this look from runway to red carpet, and I kind of think there was too much editing? A weird thing to say about Chanel, a label which I usually find overworked and “too much.” But this is basically just a grey-blue tube. It would have been lovely if Kristen had styled it better? Her hair color is still kind of blah to me, and she probably needed a stronger makeup look and some good jewelry. She looks like she rolled out of bed and threw this dress on.

Kristen has been giving interviews to the British press, including the Daily Mail, and they’ve been asking her a lot about Diana’s sons. She spoke to the DM about how she “felt disloyal” to Diana because she (Kristen) is not a mother, yet she’s portraying Diana’s relationships with her sons. She also spoke about how she sees Diana in both Harry and William: “I think that you can see that in the both of them, they are, seemingly from the outside, very different people that are kind of forging a path – and that’s her. I see her in them and that could sound really kooky. I’m sure that that sounds crazy to them.”

I’m including photos of the two young actors playing little Harry and William in the movie. Jacki Nielen plays William, little redhead Freddie Spry plays Harry, obviously.

Like the dress-hate her hair and makeup.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

      That hair color is just-off…

      • Ellie says:

It is just screaming for some toner. My hair looks the cool blonde I want it to in some lights, but warmer in others so maybe that’s what’s going on? But somehow I doubt it.

  2. Surly Gale says:

Man, that hair colour is doing her NO favours. I think it makes her look older and…(trampy? tri-hard? craigy? washed-out?) something, I don’t know what. I see no joy in her and the hair colour is not ‘fun’. Also, it’s not Di’s colour at all; whatever she’s trying to achieve w/the hair colour, I wish she’d get over it and move on.

    • huckle says:

This site picked the worst photos of her during this premiere on purpose.

    • KLO says:

The haircut is phenomenal on her when styled right, and I´ve seen many great hair looks on her n the past month. Have no idea what happened to the styling on this occasion. It just looks like a fail.
I have no problem with the color, it looks like they were going for a “red-headed Bowie had a baby with Marilyn Monroe” look from what I gather how she has been styled for her recent shoots. But this time it`s just a no. Love the dress though. And I love her.

    • Ella says:

I think the “I see no joy in her” judgment is unfair. You’re never seeing true “joy” on the red carpet. You’re seeing someone doing a job and posing for photos in front of a bank of flashing cameras.

Person quibble but I hate that length. I know it’s less formal than floor-length and more formal than tea length, but it just seems undecided to me. Like pick a lane!

The hair clashes with the dress. I know you can’t base every color scheme around your hair color but maybe she could try for the red carpet.

Also I’m interested in y’all’s input- do you think she would feel wrong about playing a mom in general? Or only for historical figures? Or Diana specifically?

  4. Jess says:

She has too much money to have that “bleached my black hair at home and don’t know what toner is” hair.

  5. Erica says:

I’m in the minority but I find her to be so hot LOL

  6. Noki says:

Do redheads also face the same ‘ they all look alike’ curse. From the casting in those tv movies its like the get any one to play Harry as long as they are a redhead.

    • JillyBeann says:

Yes. All red heads look the same…. I live on an island with about 30% red heads.. I have a son who is a redhead…. it’s amazing the attention they get when we go to the mainland lol

There can sometimes be a difference depending on blue/green eyes vs brown eyes….and then the freckle factor

  7. Bettyrose says:

I don’t understand why she’s blonde all of a sudden but I like the dress. I do plan to see Spencer. It still bugs me that this tiny pixie was cast as Diana whose physical presence was such a part of her persona, but the trailers are intriguing.

  8. iconoclast59 says:

The dress is okay (not a huge fan of Chanel); that shade of blonde looks awful on her. It didn’t look that yellow-y in the Spencer film clips. I prefer Kristen as a brunette, but if she wants to go blonde, IMO it should be more of an ash blonde.

  9. SarahCS says:

It looks like she left before they finished putting this look together, where’s the jewellery?

It also needs to be fully lined, why make it see through part way down? I’m not a fan of it overall but that would be an improvement.

  10. Lightpurple says:

I like the dress but her styling is off. Doing something else with her hair and a lipstick with more punch would have saved this look

  11. MsIam says:

I don’t like the hair color or style with that dress. It either needs to be more or less (more styled or more sleek, minimal) I can’t decide which. And I don’t like the eye makeup with that hair color. I think the dress is beautiful though, that smokey color is unusual. Sorry but she looks kind of a mess.

  12. Juju says:

The hair is so odd. There are rare occasions like on the EW cover where I think it’s the best she’s ever looked. But I think requires warm/pink makeup tones to keep from washing her out. The cool gray on her eye makeup here, combined with the orange hair just makes her look corpse-like.

    • KLO says:

DItto, I really dig the color on occasion, but the styling on that particular day was simply bad.

  13. Becks1 says:

I love that dress, I think it’s one of the better things we’ve seen her wear in recent years.

The hair ruins the look though.

  14. Same says:

All I’m getting is air dried hair and last nights bar makeup you were too drunk to take off before bed . The dress is just ok

  15. 123Qwerty says:

I think she looks just right for her intentions. She reasserts her indie serious actor vibe while being able to play a glam icon in a film. While her look is not for me, I don’t think she’d be improved by a being styled like Kate Hudson or Gwyneth.

  16. Jenny says:

I love the colour on her. It’s off beat and definitely not generic. The dress is a bridesmaid nightmare!!

  17. corralee says:

Why is her hair that color???

  18. detritus says:

Remember the time Tyra did makeovers and bleached one girls hair so much she cried? Kristen ‘members.

Buuuut Kristen is very editorial looking and can pull it off IMO

  19. Ann says:

She looks awkward to me. It’s not polished, she needs jewelry, a different hairstyle or color and just to know how to pose for the camera and position herself. I mean, whatever, she’s an actress, not a model, but if you’re going to do red carpets it would be best to try to work them a little?

  20. Madpoe says:

She looks pissed/unhappy. Ive been mentally burned out and I still walk away from a cashier that looks like it’s a hassle im on their line. Like why u show up for work if u feelin sour?

  21. april says:

She does not look good with that hair color. Plus the color of her hair and the grey color of the dress is not a color she should be wearing. She needs to watch what colors she wears with that hair color.

  22. Barbie1 says:

Worst bleach job I’ve ever seen. But she clearly doesn’t give a pluck. She somehow keeps getting these high profile film roles and fashion gigs. Life has been good to her.

  23. Mei says:

Can the ‘clothing needs a sheer part before it’s worth wearing’ trend please die quickly? There is no need for this to become semi transparent halfway down. Not that it would save the dress but still.
